Bildet henger i Galleria Barberini. Człowiek niezwykle okrutny, bezwstydny i bezlitosny. W dodatku ogromnie zdeprawowany.

In 1599, Beatrice Cenci, the daughter of a wealthy Roman nobleman, was convicted of her father's murder. She almost certainly did it—no one was arguing that. Celebrated Crimes - Alexandre Dumas - Book 1 - Book 20: Volume 8: Part 3: The Marquise de Ganges: 1657 Title: Celebrated Crimes, Volume 8: The Marquise de Ganges: 1657 Overview: From 1839 to 1841, Dumas, with the assistance of several friends, compiled Celebrated Crimes, an eight-volume collection of essays on famous criminals and crimes from European history. He featured Beatrice Cenci, Martin Guerre, Cesare, and Lucrezia Borgia, as well as more recent events and criminals, including the cases of the alleged murderers Karl Ludwig Sand and Antoine François Desrues, who were executed. Dumas's 'Celebrated Crimes' was not written for children. The novelist has spared no language--has minced no words--to describe the violent scenes of a violent time. In some instances, facts appear distorted out of their true perspective, and in others, the author makes unwarranted charges. The careful, mature reader, for whom the books are intended, will recognize, and allow for, this fact. Celebrated Crimes - Alexandre Dumas - Book 1 - Book 9: Volume 4: Part 3: Nisida: 1825 Title: Celebrated Crimes, Volume 4: Nisida: 1825 Overview: From 1839 to 1841, Dumas, with the assistance of several friends, compiled Celebrated Crimes, an eight-volume collection of essays on famous criminals and crimes from European history. He featured Beatrice Cenci, Martin Guerre, Cesare, and Lucrezia Borgia, as well as more recent events and criminals, including the cases of the alleged murderers Karl Ludwig Sand and Antoine François Desrues, who were executed. In some instances, facts appear distorted out of their true perspective, and in others, the author makes unwarranted charges. The careful, mature reader, for whom the books are intended, will recognize, and allow for, this fact. The fourth volume comprises three widely dissimilar tales. One of the strangest stories is that of Urbain Grandier, the innocent victim of a cunning and relentless religious plot. His story was dramatized by Dumas, in 1850. A famous German crime is that of Karl-Ludwig Sand, whose murder of Kotzebue, Councillor of the Russian Legation, caused an international upheaval that was not to subside for many years. Celebrated Crimes - Alexandre Dumas - Book 1 - Book 8: Volume 4: Part 2: Urbain Grandier: 1634 Title: Celebrated Crimes, Volume 4: Urbain Grandier: 1634 Overview: From 1839 to 1841, Dumas, with the assistance of several friends, compiled Celebrated Crimes, an eight-volume collection of essays on famous criminals and crimes from European history. Celebrated Crimes - Alexandre Dumas - Book 1 - Book 6: Volume 3: Part 2: Mary Stuart: 1587 Title: Celebrated Crimes, Volume 3: Mary Stuart: 1587 Overview: From 1839 to 1841, Dumas, with the assistance of several friends, compiled Celebrated Crimes, an eight-volume collection of essays on famous criminals and crimes from European history. The third volume is devoted to the story of Mary Queen of Scots, another woman who suffered a violent death, and around whose name an endless controversy has waged. Dumas goes carefully into the dubious episodes of her stormy career but does not allow these to blind his sympathy for her fate. Mary, it should be remembered, was closely allied to France by education and marriage, and the French never forgave Elizabeth for the part she played in the tragedy. Harriet Goodhue Hosmer, who is considered the modern world's first professional female sculptor has work on display in museums and collections around the world. She was a rule breaker with a blunt personality, but very talented and bold. Her Lafayette Park statue, "The Benton Bronze," was the first public monument in the country given to a female artist – it is also the first monument west of the Mississippi with a public figure as its subject. Just press play to hear the whole story. ------ Click on search links to see if there are episodes with related content: Amanda Clark, Arts, Entertainment, and Culture, Parks, Women's History, ------ Podcast Transcript: I'm Amanda Clark, manager of the See STL Tours program at the Missouri History Museum, and Here's History, on eighty-eight one, KDHX. ——— The centerpiece of St. Louis' historic Lafayette Park isn't a statue dedicated to the heroic French war general, but it is a gleaming bronze statue of Thomas Hart Benton, a well-known politician from the early 19th century. The statue's place in history goes beyond its subject or its location, but to the trailblazing artist who created it. Known as the “The Benton Bronze,” it was by designed by Harriet Goodhue Hosmer, who is considered the modern world's first professional female sculptor. Her work is on display in museums and collections around the world, and her Benton statue commission was the first public monument in the country given to a female artist – it is also the first monument west of the Mississippi with a public figure as its subject. ——— Harriet was raised by her father, a widower, in Massachusett's high society. From an early age, though, it was clear Harriet was a rulebreaker, she was known for her masculine clothing and blunt personality. She boldly traveled the American West and explored the Mississippi River without a chaperone, even winning a footrace up a high bluff in Iowa against a group of young men. This bluff still bears her name. ——— As part of her self-propelled art education, she came to St. Louis to study anatomy at the St. Louis Medical College, a pioneering school that required students to learn anatomy from cadavers. Harriet then went on to join a colony of American artists, including several women, living in Rome. Here, she established herself as a premier sculptor, and her subjects often depicted mythological figures and themes. She was drawn to female characters whose stories connected to her own strongly held beliefs in the fight for women's dignity and strength. ——— There are other places to find Harriet's work in St. Louis. Her sculpture, Zenobia in Chains ( from 1859), can be found at the St. Louis Art Museum. The large marble sculpture depicts a warrior queen captured by enemies and put on display for ridicule in her jewels and finery – but thanks to Hosmer's hand – Zenobia is full of strength and resolve. The St. Louis Mercantile Library houses one of her most well-known sculptures, depicting the Italian noblewoman, Beatrice Cenci. ——— Here's history is a joint production of the Missouri History Museum and KDHX. I'm Amanda Clark and this is 88.1 KDHX St. Louis. ———
Count Francesco Cenci, a 16th-century Roman nobleman, had a long record of cruel and violent behavior. In September of 1598, villagers found the count's body in a ravine at the bottom of his castle. His family claimed that he accidentally fell from the castle's balcony, but the inconsistencies in their stories led the villagers of La Petrella to believe that Francesco had not died by accident. Lots of people pack up the ghostly decor come November, but in truth, November is the real month of the dead, starting with All Saints' Day on the first and All Souls on the second. (Halloween is really only the preview.) On this ghostly episode, we chat about the origins of halloween and how they are connected to more religions than you might expect. We also share a few ghost stories that were shared by some of our listeners during our recent live virtual meet-up event for our Patreon supporters and long-time donors. Tiffany also tells the story of one of Rome's most famous ghosts (this time it's not Beatrice Cenci!). The book Tiffany talks about on this episode is Mistress of the Vatican by Eleanor Herman. ----------------------------- ADVERTISE WITH US: Reach expats, future expats, and travelers all over the world. We're celebrating the birthday of one of our favorite directors, Lucio Fulci, with one of his unsung films: Beatrice Cenci. While not a horror film, this is one of the films of which Fulci himself was most proud and still has enough Fulci "flourishes" for fans of his horror movies to enjoy it. To help us with our discussion, our guest for this episode is author and film historian Troy Howarth, who provided the commentary for the 88 Films blu-ray release of Beatrice Cenci. Troy's books are available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/s?i=stripbooks&rh=p_27%3ATroy+Howarth&s=relevancerank&text=Troy+Howarth&ref=dp_byline_sr_book_1 and you can hear his film commentaries on numerous releases from Severin, Arrow, Blue Underground, Cauldron Films, and many other labels.
The Italian noblewoman was later convicted in the murder of her abusive father, and sentenced to death by Pope Clement VIII.

On this installment of 13 O’Clock, we’re doing true crime, Renaissance-style! First, we discuss the artistically celebrated case of Beatrice Cenci, the young Roman noblewoman who conspired with her family to kill her terrible father and was horribly tortured and executed in 1599. Outside of our 1000 year mandate! It's the renaissance! But only just, since Michelle points out it's still the Middle Ages in England. And there's a lurid murder! And a play by Shelley! That came lots later, though.
Join us for a whimsical (and not so whimsical) conversation about ghosts—do you believe in them? Have you ever encountered one? Are you the type of person who automatically looks for “rational explanations” when spooky things occur? Or are you open to believing something paranormal is afoot? Where's the line between open-minded and gullible? We also talk about the famous ghosts that supposedly haunt Rome, including Beatrice Cenci. Tiffany tells her tragic story. Also, the Colosseum—a place that saw the deaths of so many tens if not hundreds of thousands of people—many say it's bound to be the most haunted place on earth. And that leads us to another question: is it right the site of mass killing, torture, and horror go on to become tourist attractions? Katy recounts her chilling experience at the “Hanoi Hilton” in Vietnam, and considers that maybe it would have been better if it had been torn to the ground. Why do we seek to preserve places of unspeakable cruelty? It is so they will be a warning to future generations…or because we're fascinated with the macabre? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SPONSOR THE SHOW: Reach expats, future expats, and travelers all over the world.
This chapter of Caustic Soda's "-icide guide" explores the psychological reasons as to why children kill their fathers.
