The Story of Brian FranklinBrian moved to Miami, FL in 1990, where he met Jeff Rollason and started playing with the band Strangelove and acoustically where he could. Brian would perform at open mics around Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County. Between 1993-1994 Brian played with band Sabatella, and was a regular performer at Blue Steel, Talk House, South Beach Pub, and Roses. Over the years, Brian released 3 studio including albums, including co-writing the soundtrack to Rat Opera, a homage to longtime South Florida producer and noise-king of Miami, Frank "Rat Bastard" Falestra. In 1995, Brian was signed to a developmental deal with Mercury/Polygram Records. He played with the Diane Ward Band throughout the late 90's and also lead his own band called Tumbleman. Brian Franklin, owner of the Doubleshot Coffee, shares to us about his building and why he chose to buy one instead of renting for his business. Bryan purchased a warehouse, built in 1928, in the Northwest Side of Tulsa which leads people to think that he is out of his mind but they didn't know what's on his mind. He looked for a building to buy that has a character, old and eventually will turn it into a Cafe. When he comes across this building he sees that he can make another Doubleshot out of this crap. When he bought this building he realized why a lot of business owners are shied away from buying real estate for their business instead they settle in renting when in fact, in his point of view, buying real estate changed his future drastically and changed his ability to grow business. Doubleshot building is perfect for tourists. He recreated the bar and it took 7 years to get things done. His ideas on reconstructing the building is that when people walk in, they would have an idea of what type of person he is. The building was built in 1850 and they reconstructed it. It's a lot cheaper in monetary value than building a metal building. The expensive part is putting in so much thought and time. It's a work of art! Brian also is taking the effort to maintain the greenness of the building. He put solar panels on the roof, recycling, and being careful of the water usage. As it turned out, the MLB.TV feed carried his comment live. Brennaman left the booth during the second game, but not before Nick Castellanos hit a home run mid-apology. He’s subsequently been suspended from Cincinnati regional broadcasts, plus FOX pulled him from NFL games.  Then politics take over the show, starting with the selection of Kamala Harris as the Democratic VP nominee (14:20). That’s followed by a review of the Democratic National Convention (18:35), including the production value and the biggest speeches.This week’s guest is Dr. Brian Franklin from the SMU Center for Presidential History (36:45). President Donald Trump recently said Joe Biden is “against the Bible” and “against religion.” Brian looked back at Jefferson vs. Adams in 1800 and found similar attacks. Not from the candidates themselves, but from commentaries in propagandist newspapers.Looking at today’s hyper-partisanship, Brian believes George Washington would be baffled and hurt (39:15). Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton despised each other and likely wouldn’t have a problem with the current state of affairs.To contrast the first president of the United States with the man currently holding the office (40:49), Brian says Washington was incredibly conscious of every single thing he did and said, being very careful about his words and actions. Washington knew he was setting an example. It’s clear that’s not the case with Trump.
