In this episode, host Thomas Bertels welcomes Dr. Solange Charas and Stela Lupushor, co-authors of "Humanizing Human Capital". They share how four major trends - demographics, digitization, datafication, and disintermediation - impact HR. Putting Human Capital in the context of the pandemic, the authors explain the tensions between employees and employers around remote work, surveillance technology, and the greater need for worker autonomy and discuss how harnessing the power of data analytics can move organizations successfully into the future of work. By embracing data analytics, organizations can tap into their own data to improve organizational productivity and the employee experience rather than relying on industry best practices. They advocate for a shift from standardization to personalized and a move towards servant leadership to help people thrive. By looking at work through the employee lens, companies can create systems that help them do their best work and become more productive. They explain that by listening to the employees' voice and incorporating employee feedback, HR can improve retention rates, positively shape the brand, and reduce costs of recruiting and training. HR departments that embrace Human Capital and data analytics receive 3x the Return on Investment, get more money for their programs, and increased value for their organization.

HR doesn't live in a vacuum. To help shape the future of work, it must connect the needs inside the business with the demands and consequences of an ever-changing environment. Continuous improvement is no longer enough. To respond to today's Never Normal challenges, HR needs to not just improve but reinvent itself. Front and center are what distinguished authors and human capital strategists Solange Charas and Stela Lupushor call the four environmental D's which will impact the four internal W's (work, worker, workplace, worth). Much to the dismay of many leaders, success won't happen if they focus just on workplace strategy. It's about humanizing the approach to human capital. Join us for this provocative, disruptive, and robust conversation about how the valuation of human capital is quickly changing, outlined in their just released book: Humanizing Human Capital.
This week on Entrepreneur Rx, John has a very valuable conversation with Dr. Orrin Aillioni-Charas, Founder and Managing Director at Cura Capital. In this episode, he talks about his entrepreneurial journey and what his venture fund does and looks for in health and MedTech companies. Both he and John believe that doctors have everything in them to become entrepreneurs, and so, Orrin provides advice to those who might have a calling to do something of their own. Tune in to this episode and listen to how the business world has lessons to be learned that you probably didn't learn in medicine!

And what could it have to do with one of the richest communities in India, which actually thrived in that very African republic? This week, in the fourth episode of the series The Great Migration, we travel from across Asia and Africa to uncover this connection, all of it culminating in two small housing societies in one of India's fastest growing cities. A mass of marijuana media claims to have the straight dope on dank, but their buds weren't curing the drug war, and their gas never fueled freedom. As the video arm of Cannabis Culture Magazine, POT TV has been proudly fighting the drug war with a camera and microphone since Dec 1999. Using only a few clips from POT TV‘s broadcasting history, “Channel Charas” fanned the leaves of landrace ganja video online, and came back coated and pressed into a taste of the temple. In this episode, anesthesiologist and venture capitalist Dr. Orrin Ailloni-Charas joins our host Dr. Bryan Hartley to discuss the mechanics of fundraising from both the entrepreneur and the investor side. First, they talk about the definition of venture capitalism (VC) and its impact on GDP. Dr. Ailloni-Charas notes that the only way to get true and sustainable growth is through innovation of new products, opportunities, and industries. These efforts rely on VC for support. On a macro-level, new technologies require large investments in order to accelerate to the market. On a micro-level, each company also needs investment and guidance. Dr. Aillioni-Charas walks through different stages of fundraising rounds: friends/family, seed, Series A, Series B, and so on. He says that each round should be centered around a milestone goal that advances the company closer to the final product and exit strategy. He also emphasizes the importance of storytelling and communicating product-market fit and uniqueness to potential investors. From an investor standpoint, Dr. Aillioni-Charas highlights “green flags” and “red flags” that he has seen in startups. Positive factors are the presence of true clinical need, the ability to receive constructive feedback, and establishment functional oversight boards. Finally, we talk about the valuable clinical perspective that doctors can bring to a company and pathways that doctors can get involved in angel and VC investing.

We speak with Jim Finch, who has an inspirational story about how cannabis gave him his life back after a horrific car accident. Jim suffers with Tourette Syndrome since his accident, and he uses cannabis to treat his tics. Now he has stopped using all pharmaceutical medication, and only uses cannabis to help relieve his symptoms. He says it has given his life back! An amazing story from a very inspirational guy.
World renowned hashishin Frenchy Cannoli joins us to talk hash! Human capital is the most important asset of every company. Without it, you can't maintain clients or grow your business. This aspect of due diligence is so critical in the M&A process to see whether or not you are looking at the right company to acquire. Many of us would have felt by now that somehow, there is a relationship between human capital performance and corporate financial performance. But how do we exactly calculate the return on investment in human capital? Is it even calculable in financial terms? Joining Domenic Rinaldi to give some clarity on this is Dr. Solange Charas, a human capital metrics expert and the Founder and CEO of HCMoneyball, a technology company that provides an application for organizations to calculate their human capital metrics. It is inevitable that we are going to see a radical change in how we view human capital. Listen in to take a sneak peek of this exciting future!

Episode 110 is here, and, like the actual 110 Freeway, this one meanders a bit. With no LAFC game to chat about, and with the Filly birthday episode on the horizon, Filly and Scarf go down the rabbit hole of topics. Our athlete of the podcast is a goalie, but he plays hockey. We talk college football, Syracuse basketball, our sad, sad Metropolitans, and so much more. But don't worry, we talk LAFC and other soccer (but no Patriots!). For Episode 110, we also bring on Connor Kalopsis and Jerry Reynoso, the lads over at 110 Football, a budding media conglomerate with a small crew and big dreams. Previously able to make it work with just a producer, director, director of photography, editing and sound crew, and maybe a show runner or two, they have now added a few mega-stars of LAFC lore, the incomparable Vince La Rosa and former LAFC captain Benny Feilhaber. This 17-year old duo Zooms with us about a wide range of topics: both of their first times meeting each other, what goes into a production of 110 Football, their thoughts on the Covid Cup, the Champions League, and their aspirations for the future. Please stick around until the end to hear about an amazing project Jerry is spearheading called L.A. Saga, as he looks to empower teens and help them get their foot in the door in the many avenues of journalism. Episode 111 and Filly's 40th are on the horizon, so be on the lookout for another episode soon as we get ready for the restart of the 2020 MLS season and celebrate the big 4-0!
