Como canción principal he seleccionado la maravillosa canción de los Echo & The Bunnymen que da título al podcast. Como bien dije, arrancamos con los Bunnymen y su preciosa “Bring on The Dancing Horses” publicado en Octubre del 85 como single y formando parte del grandes éxitos de aquel año “Songs to Learn & Sing”. Una preciosa melodía melancólica con toques de psicodelia convirtió el single en uno de los más vendidos del grupo. The Waterboys y su “The Pan Within” el cual no fue nunca single pero con el tiempo llego a convertirse en una de las canciones favoritas de los seguidores de Mike Scott y compañía. Este tema pertenece a su tercer álbum “This is the sea” su disco más exitoso y épico publicado en 1985. The La’s y su (único) gran single “There She Goes”. Originales de Liverpool, comenzaron en 1984, publicaron solo un disco en 1990 y todos coinciden que fueron unos de los precursores del BritPop que revoluciono el Reino Unido entre 1994 y 1997. Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, “Jennifer She said”. Originales de Glasgow, estuvieron en activo entre el 84 y el 89. Lloyd Cole continuaría con una carrera solista con más de 10 álbumes publicados. Esta canción se editó como single en 1987, fue el segundo sencillo de su tercer y último álbum “Mainstream”, convirtiéndose en uno de las canciones más populares de la banda. Oficialmente no se publicó como single, aunque existen algunas copias como tal, una tirada pequeña que se lanzó en Alemania. The Woodentops, “Good Thing”. Originales de Londres, publicaron discos entre 1985 y 1988. Good Thing es un sensillo que pertenece a tu segundo álbum “Giant” (1986) . Lanzaron algunos singles de moderado éxito en las islas y parte de Europa. Con un sonido que a muchos puede recordar a The Housemartins. Everything But The Girl, "When All's Well”. Grupo de origen Indie Pop con toques de Jazz, pasando por el Pop ochentero y acabando como una banda de electrónica en los 90s, pero siempre conservando su sello independiente. La canción se editó como single en 1985 muy influenciado por el sonido de gitarras de los Smiths. The Housemartins, “Bow Down”. Una de sus canciones más bonitas, que no se llegó a lanzar con single, pertenece al segundo y último disco de la banda, publicado en 1987. Poco tiempo después anunciaron su disolución. El ex líder de Bauhaus comenzó su carrera solista al disolverse el grupo, publicando muy buenos discos en los 80s. Esta canción pertenece a su tercer álbum “Deep” publicado en 1989. Héroes del Silencio, "Héroe De Leyenda (Versión Maxi)". Grupo español de Rock Alternativo, influenciado por el Post-Punk y la New Wave. Logrando gran éxito en países como Alemania durante la década de los 90s. este tema, en versión extendida, pertenece a su EP homónimo lanzado en 1987. The Chameleons, “Tears”. Grupo de culto, originales de Middleton. Single de 1986, perteneciente a su disco “Strange Times”. The House Of Love, "I Don't Know Why I Love You”. From Cassy: To the best of my knowledge, the first time I heard Echo and the Bunnymen was sometime late in 1987 after the release of their self-titled “grey album” which produced hits like “Lips Like Sugar” and, my personal favorite from their eponymous release, “The Game.” I fell for their sound quickly and didn't understand why both the critics and the band itself were underwhelmed by the final product until I went back through their earlier catalogue. I could have easily picked Crocodiles. I almost picked Ocean Rain. But my heart belongs to “The Cutter” and all things Porcupine so, of course, it won out in the end. I hope you enjoy this episode where I profess my undying love for my favorite Liverpool band and if all you know by Echo and the Bunnymen is “Bring on the Dancing Horses” from the Pretty in Pink soundtrack or the undeniably beautiful “The Killing Moon” because it was featured in Donnie Darko, I beg you to give a listen to Porcupine (or Crocodiles, or Ocean Rain, or …) because they are all truly sublime from start to finish. ❤ -

In the latter, all of his dialogue is in American sign language. A native of Westlake Village, California who grew up in Malibu, Gabe is the son of screenwriter Jeremy Joe Kronsberg who wrote Clint Eastwood's celebrated comedy Every Which Way But Loose. At 11, Gabe's first show business opportunity came when he picked up a copy of Daily Variety and spotted a talent audition ad. Taking the bus from Malibu to Hollywood, he was selected to play one of the background kids on Walt Disney's Mousercise, an exercise show. Graduating from high school, Gabe was accepted at UCLA but decided to pursue acting full time. He made his scripted television debut on Goodnight, Beantown, and appeared opposite Joe Pantoliano in the play Vampire Guts. Then his big break came when he won the lead opposite Val Kilmer in the comedy Real Genius, in which he played a fourteen-year-old whiz kid who goes to college. He has been a working actor ever since. His feature credits include The Karate Kid Part III, Apollo 13, The American President, Las Days, Poseidon (as the helmsman), Frost/Nixon, Swing State and Limbo. His television credits include 21 Jump Street, The Bronx Zoo, Freddy's Nightmares, L.A. Law, Party of Five, The West Wing, The Game and Mystic Cosmic Patrol. When Gabe isn't acting, he's an American sign language interpreter who works in many venues, including press conferences, cruise lines, theme parks and medical conventions.

Show: Heat Rocks Guest: Eliza Skinner The Album: Pretty in Pink Soundtrack (1986) Actress and comedian Eliza Skinner is part of the brand new Maximum Fun scripted comedy show, Bubble, and hosts her own music podcast, Cool Playlist. For her guest spot on Heat Rocks, she wanted to revisit one of the iconic soundtracks of the 1980s: Pretty in Pink. The film is a key part of the John Hughes pantheon, alongside The Breakfast Club, 16 Candles and Ferris Bueller's Day Off and arguably boasts the most storied soundtrack of all of them, including now-classics that were written expressly for the film such as OMD's "If You Leave" and Echo and Bunnymen's "Bring On the Dancing Horses," and of course, the reworked, sax-ified version of the Psychedelic Furs' "Pretty In Pink." Eliza and us discussed how soundtracks can create an invented nostalgia for a time we never knew, what lesser known tracks off this album still bump, and why Ducky really didn't deserve to belong with Andie.
