Our guests today are shoegaze legends Slowdive. Formed in Reading, England in 1989, the iconic five-piece helped shape the genre's soundscape with their seminal 1993 record Souvlaki. After reforming in 2014, they've continued to tour and create new music—most recently with their critically acclaimed 2023 album everything is alive. Following a successful Australian tour that same year, the band returns to our shores later this month. In today's episode, we're joined by bassist Nick Chaplin to talk about their upcoming shows, the creative journey behind everything is alive, and how the record has resonated with fans. We also reflect on the band's past visits to Australia, the enduring influence of shoegaze, and the joy of connecting with a new generation of listeners around the world.Slowdive: Instagram / Spotify Find all Slowdive tour dates here and purchase tickets hereVisit our official website here and follow us across our socials.

In this episode of Arch Eats, George Mahe and Cheryl Baehr discuss the latest trends across the local dining and drink scene. The hosts predict a surge in meat alternatives, the concept of "sea-cuterie," and the rising influence of cannabis cuisine. They also discuss the ongoing popularity of bagel spots (Cheryl wonders, "Have we reached peak bagel?"), nonalcoholic drink options, and ghost kitchens. Potential new arrivals to St. Louis include high-tech meal-vending machines, an increase in fast-casual/full-service hybrid restaurants, and more. Cheryl highlights a local restaurant with "the best salad dressing ever to be invented," describing it as the "nectar of the gods" and deeming it transcendent. Plus, George and Cheryl reveal their "trend to die in 2024" and reveal their favorite Taco Bell items. The episode wraps up with a microrant about restaurants' climate-control issues in the winter and a simple, inexpensive solution. Dr. Ryan Lambros and Paul Krauss MA LPC discuss: Is Religious Deconstruction Good for your Mental Health? Deconstruction is the free act of valuing (evaluating) what was, experiencing what is, and holding a posture of curiosity moving forward. Some points to consider: A.The intention of this discussion is not to destroy a faith system. It's not even to deconstruct a faith system. “De” words won't provide holistic health. Rather, the intention is to evaluate systems, dogmas, and ideas based on our experience and reason. Curiosity and compassion are key to pursuing spiritual health. The intention is to offer freedom, hope, and beauty for people to pursue healing in their spiritual journey. B. Why are so many people deconstructing Evangelical Christianity and leaving the church? C. The church isn't controlling the narrative anymore. D. Are we lacking deep and meaningful spirituality practices in our current culture? Also Discussed: Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung, Evangelical movement, Power, Money, Control, a partial History of the Church, Sex-Cult, Patriarchy, bibliolatrous behavior, critical thinking, scientific exploration, Spirituality, Healthy Spirituality, Unhealthy spirituality, Gaslighting, Narcissism, Truth, "truth", Catholic Priest letters from 500 years ago, Jesus, the Book of Enoch, the Gnostic Gospels, the Bible, US Politics, dogma, tithing, religious fundamentalism, capitalism's influence on the church, purity culture, internal family systems, counseling, therapy, trauma, defense mechanisms, human adaptation, "the self", integration, healing spirituality, curiosity, compassion, learning from myths, etc. Dr. Ryan Lambros is a Certified Life Coach and Chaplain in Gilbert, AZ. He is married to Jessica, a Licensed Professional Counselor, and they have two sons. Ryan completed his doctorate from Northwind Seminary with his doctoral work focusing on the intersection of philosophy and psychology as it pertains to a phenomenological metaphysic of healing. Ryan is passionate about walking with people in their healing journey, specifically in relationships and religious trauma. Website: www.thetablecoach.com/coaching Instagram: @tablecoaching Bonus IG: @hereticallife "On this immediate level of life and structure, myths offer life models. But the models have to be appropriate to the time in which you are living, and our time has changed so fast that what was proper fifty years ago is not proper today. The virtues of the past are the vices of today. And many of what were thought to be the vices of the past are the necessities of today. The moral order has to catch up with the moral necessities of actual life in time, here and now. And that is what we are not doing. The old-time religion belongs to another age, another people, another set of human values, another universe. By going back you throw yourself out of sync with history. Our kids lose their faith in the religions that were taught to them, and they go inside."- Joseph Campbell Myth is powerful not just because it holds value in its literal-ness (which it may), but because it transcends the literal facts as well - offering us something more valuable than truth…beauty. -Dr. Ryan Lambros Get involved with the National Violence Prevention Hotline: 501(c)(3) Donate Share with your network Write your congressperson Sign our Petition Looking for excellent medical billing services?
Egyptian-born Bizou has always had a knack for melding traditional melodies of the region with modern electronic beats. Her music, a blend of East and West, got its initial recognition in local clubs before resonating across European venues. Bizou's distinct sound brews tech house, afro house, and soft psytrance with a tinge of Eastern melodies and rhythms. Bizou's talent shines in her unorthodox set flows. A listen to her Select 192 unveils a smooth transition from Schak's rendition of Souvlaki's “Inferno” to John Creamer's mix of “Till there was you,” before crescendoing with Club Caviar's “Speed it up.” crafting a dynamic and euphoric auditory voyage. DJing across Egypt and Europe, Bizou acknowledges the varied musical palate but sees it as a canvas for her diverse sets, “What's considered here as fast music for example isn't the same there and so juggling gigs between both has always been interesting. I used to feel self conscious about this before without having a constant 'type of crowd' - but this turned out to be the best thing because before each set I would spend time researching what would be best suitable' which led me to find my style of fast music with multiple genre switches - I mix in Arabic tunes, balkan music, psytrance, whatever I feel like” www.scenenoise.com

This week, hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot reflect on the Paisley Underground movement. They'll discuss the prominent bands like The Bangles, explore what made the scene so special and explain its impact on indie rock. What makes the perfect gyro? Do you have mustard, mayo, or ‘saltsa' on yours, or is that all sacrilege? One thing's for sure, everyone's an expert when it comes to Greece's most recognisable street food… but not like Kelly Roditis – AKA The Gyros Queen. What started as a simple joke by the Greek-born Roditis on Instagram after literally overdosing on gyro in Athens, has transformed into real advocacy for Greek cuisine. Kelly stops by Ouzo Talk bearing gifts for Tom and Nick, as they cover all the spiciest, savoury issues in the world of gyro, Greek street food, and social media. Join Kelly and the boys as they take on all these topics on more in a discussion that doesn't quite go the way you might think! This episode of Ouzo Talk is brought to you by The Greek Providore. https://thegreekprovidore.com.au/Support the showEmail us at ouzotalk@outlook.comSubscribe to our Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3n85GSdk5Q&t=6sFollow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OuzoTalkFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ouzo_talk/

For those just getting into the shoegaze genre, there are a handful of albums that are must-listens. Of course at the top sits My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless", Slowdive's "Souvlaki", and Ride's "Nowhere". But while there are must-listen albums, perhaps more important are the must-listen songs. And for many, Drop Nineteen's Delaware features one of shoegaze's greatest moments: the ethereal, slow-build simmer of "Kick The Tragedy", a near 9 minute drone with an unexpected sucker punch two-thirds of the way through that left a lasting impression on new and old fans of the genre and cemented the band as one of shoegaze's greatest acts.Tracklist: Winona Mayfield Delaware Ease It Halen Kick The Tragedy Angel (Madonna cover) Skull This show is part of the Pantheon Podcast network.
