For the reds , this weekend series epitomized the entire month of June….a month where the team won 13 and lost 13. They look great on offense for two games of the series at busch stadium…..get shut out in the other two. They outscored st louis 20-11 over the four games but they are no closer in the nl central standings than when the weekend began. Hunter Greene? Tell me what you think? I can watch a guy on tv……a guy who looks almost unhittable….a guy who gives up only one run. I also see a guy who averages five innings per start this season…. before throwing 95-100 pitches. This was a game you needed to win and the best arm on your team goes 4.2 innings. The offense stunk…that's obvious. They're lucky they didn't get no-hit by lance lynn. It's a month where they had a seven-game wining streak, then lost 12 out of 17 to end the month. July is what i call go time…..GO MONTH. Go to work winning games and get over .500 or go home. If you start the month of August under the .500 mark, your chances of reaching the post-season are virtually nill. The end of this month is also the trade deadline…… big decisions would need to be made. Deal Montas? Alexis Diaz is pitching great right now and could help a contender. Does India get thrown back in to the trade conversation or is he now a guy you want around…. He's playing great, but next year he has to be an outfielder, right? That was supposed to happen last year. The month officially starts tomorrow at yankee stadium in the first of three against the yanks. The reds sit a half game out of last place, 12 games out of first. The yankees are 22 games over .500, a half game back of baltimore in the al east. Did you see this story on the first-place brewers? The teams first 64 plate appearances with the bases loaded this season, they had a .164 batting average with just one home run……it was a topic manager pat murphy was regularly asked about. Since then, the team has hit five grand slams in the last 8 games. Five! They now lead the majors in that category. Basketball, the nba's free agent frenzy has started. Paul george is headed to philadelphia on a four-year max deal. James Harden stays with the clippers for two more years. Lebron james is an unrestricted free agent but where's he going. The lakers just drafted his son Bronny. Luke and i will talk about that shortly. And in golf, unreal finish in detroit at the rocket mortgage classic where Cam Davis wins in an unlikely fashion… #rulethejungle #cincinnatibengals #nfl #nflfootball #nflnews #nflhighlights #mlbtheshow #mlb #mlbhotstove #xaviermusketeers #cincinnatibearcats #bengals #bearcats #cincinnati #joeburrow #mlbbhighlights #atobttr #whodeynation #nfldraft #nfldraft2024 #nflschedulerelease #fccincinnati #mls ⏩ Watch More: ◼ TEE HIGGINS SIGNS FRANCHISE TAG WITH CINCINNATI BENGALS! | Chatterbox Bengals - https://youtu.be/9BU_7Mpq38o ◼ Do Reds Fans Forgive Noelvi Marte? | CBox Man On The Street - https://youtu.be/Rwh4PudzJhs ◼ Asking Strangers if Cincinnati Reds David Bell Should be Fired | CBox Man on the Street - https://youtu.be/3Ye-HjJdmmQ ◼ NCAA EA COLLEGE FOOTBALL 25 GAMEPLAY REACTION! | CBox Reacts - https://youtu.be/hXQwjMcD244 Music from #InAudio: https://inaudio.org/ Riff Rock PODCAST LINKS: Apple: https://apple.co/3QsyY1C Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3KWJcWR Google Podcasts: https://bit.ly/3RwZ9We Stitcher: https://bit.ly/3BqqmEg iHeart Radio: https://bit.ly/3BtowTm Amazon: https://amzn.to/3Db8Rcw CHATTERBOX LINKS: Chatterbox Reds: https://linktr.ee/chatterboxreds Chatterbox Bearcats: https://chatterboxbearcats.podbean.com/ Chatterbox Bengals: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjPJjEFaBD7WtWXJbcB_g2xYu7ST276R7 Chatterbox Clicker (Bengals Film Breakdown with Coach Kyle Caskey): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjPJjEFaBD7V9GfyT1tl6M1dWQtQ9730Z The Chatter Podcast: https://queencitychatter.podbean.com/ Chatterbox Store: https://www.chatterboxsports.com/store TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@cboxsports Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cboxsports/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/CBoxSports Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/cboxsports The Gangs Socials - Twitter: https://twitter.com/ThomBrennamanTV Twitter: https://twitter.com/ReidMausRadio Twitter: https://twitter.com/etrain513 Twitter: https://twitter.com/CBoxCasey Twitter: https://twitter.com/CBoxTrace Twitter: https://twitter.com/Nicholaspkirby

India and the United States are progressing in their discussions to collaboratively produce the latest generation of Stryker armoured infantry combat vehicles (ICVs).Initially, the project will involve a limited off-the-shelf acquisition of Strykers through the US Foreign Military Sales program. Subsequent phases will include joint production in India, culminating in the co-development of future versions.Host Dev Goswami and defence expert Shiv Aroor discuss the American Stryker combat vehicles deal and the ICVs' battlefield applications. They raise the larger question: Does India need this deal? With private players like Mahindra, Tata, or Ashok Leyland, couldn't India build something similar, given that the Stryker ICVs have few exemplary specifications? “I am not saying that India can do better than the Stryker right now, but we sure can get close,” says Shiv. They also explore how a deal for armoured vehicles from the US might threaten the 'Make in India' initiative. Moreover, the Canadian aspect of the deal cannot be ignored amid the flared-up diplomatic tensions between India and Canada. Jasprit Bumrah has looked a million dollar in the T20 World Cup 2024. He has 15 overs so far and conceded just four boundaries. He has 8 wickets at an economy rate of less than four runs per over. Yes, India is certainly blessed to have him in their team. The legendary West Indies pacer Ian Bishop calls him a ‘generational' fast bowler. Brian Lara said he is India's greatest cricketer of this era. But does he need an ICC title to prove his greatness? Pat Cummins, a modern-day great, has been a serial winner of ICC titles, and his winning spree has helped him further his legacy. Will Bumrah not be considered one of the finest if he doesn't inspire India to an ICC title? Returning to the ongoing T20 World Cup, India began their Super 8s campaign with a thumping win over Afghanistan. There were doubts over India's ability to perform on slow and sluggish pitches in the Caribbean, especially after they played all their group-stage games in the USA. But India silenced all critics with a comprehensive win over Rashid Khan's men in Barbados on Thursday. Does India have the best team to counter these conditions? Are they looking unbeatable again? Can they go all the way without losing a match? Will it be different this time? We don't need another heartbreak. Do we?  In the latest episode of the Sledging Room Podcast, Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar, and Kingshuk Kusari analyse India's chances of ending their 11-year-long ICC trophy drought based on evidence from their performances in the group stage and the first Super 8 game against Afghanistan. Reports of a spike in respiratory illnesses in China have recently caused some amount of panic. Perhaps this is not surprising considering that next month will mark four years since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out and changed the world as we knew it. The current surge of illnesses however, have been reported primarily among children.  On November 22, the World Health Organisation requested information from China about these infections. Subsequently, Chinese authorities have said that the outbreak is due to a number of pathogens – all of them known, none of them new. On November 26, the Indian government asked State Governments to ensure that the influenza-like illnesses (ILI) and severe acute respiratory illnesses (SARI) be closely monitored, particularly in children and adolescents. Several State governments have since then, stepped up their surveillance measures, especially as winter sets in, in many parts of India while parts of the south are experiencing heavy rains. We have since heard about RSV, adenoviruses and mycloplasma that have been the causes behind many of these infections. So what are these pathogens that have caused the Chinese outbreak? Why are they affecting children? Does India have cause for concern? And what measures can we take to safeguard ourselves? We discuss these and more in this episode. Tune in!

Is India ready for Controlled Human Infection Studies?

How do we understand how an infection affects the human body? And how do we go about the process of finding safe and effective drugs and vaccines for the many diseases that abound? One way scientists do this is through Controlled Human Infection Studies or CHIS, also known as human challenge studies. This involves deliberately exposing a volunteer to a disease-causing germ, in a controlled environment. This is done to understand the various facets of the infection and disease, and also to speed up the process of finding a cure. India has so far stayed away from such studies, because of the many ethical issues involved: the deliberate harm caused and the potential risk of exploitation since volunteers are paid for their participation, though they have been carried out in other countries. Last month however, the country's premier medical research body, the Indian Council of Medical Research, released a consensus policy document, arguing the case to bring in human infection studies into our country. What exactly will these studies involve? Do they have any benefits over regular clinical trials? After the world saw the sudden explosion of Covid-19, is there a need for deeper, faster studies of infectious diseases especially with resistance to many drugs increasing? Does India have a robust-enough regulatory system to oversee such trials and to ensure transparency and accountability?

In 2023, India surpassed China in numbers of total population and holds the presidency of the prestigious G20, shortly after it overtook the UK as the world's fifth largest economy in terms of GDP. Simultaneously, various actors are courting India's favour for international policy projects, such as the adoption of ambitious climate targets or peace plans for the war in Ukraine. Given India's rise, the volume Global India: The Pursuit of Influence and Status (Routledge, 2023) focuses on the different manifestations of India's role in the world as well as its own multi-layered identity. To what extent do BJP Hindu nationalism and Narendra Modi's leadership play into India's global role? How is India's approach assessed by domestic, regional, and global audiences? Does India's role as a regional and global power materialise in the global climate regime? Simon Kaack has recently completed his Master's in Human Rights Studies at Lund University, in which he focused on human rights in Southeast Asia, ASEAN's institutionalisation and its relationship with the EU. As a student assistant at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies he worked on the global climate regime and future politics, particularly in the context of India. He discusses the book and the issues raised therein with its editor Chris Ogden and author Miriam Prys-Hansen. Chris Ogden is Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Asian Security at the School of International Relations within the University of St. Andrews. His research analyses the relationship between national identity, security and domestic politics in South Asia (primarily India) and East Asia (primarily China), as well as the rise of great powers, authoritarianism in global politics, and China's coming world order. Miriam Prys-Hansen is Lead Research Fellow and Head of the Research Programme "Global Orders and Foreign Policies" at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies. Within her work, Miriam focuses on regional and emerging powers, such as the BRICS states, as well as global and regional environmental politics and the global climate regime, specifically regarding India's role therein.

The Tata Group-owned Air India has placed two big orders with Europe's Airbus consortium and Boeing for 470 planes – the largest ever single order placed by an airline in aviation history. As per the list price, the value of the order is around $70 billion. This order is evidently part of a strategy to rapidly expand the fleet and increase market share. It does raise some questions though: Does India have the aviation infrastructure to support such a vast expansion? What are the challenges for Air India in terms of manpower, such as pilots and trainers, and training infrastructure? How will it handle the competition from other airlines? What are the implications in terms of passenger safety, given that some of the planes are of a type that Air India pilots have never flown before, and pilot shortage may be an issue for years to come?

He challenged his audience, asking them, "what side is (Western) culture on?"  This challenge brings a lot of questions.  Is Western Culture an entity that exists in a form that can bring about change?  Zelensky doesn't necessarily think so, but he believes it can serve as the means to inspire people to change.    What is culture really?  In the West, it can be argued that culture is not something that exists in a vacuum, it is a business decision, marketing assisted means of making money.    From Rhianna at the Superbowl to Banksy, doesn't such artists, hooked into the culture machine serve to influence people to purchase things?Does the artist exist as an agent of change?   Martin presents two individuals from previous European conflicts, who acted on an individual's decision to forego their art in order to serve as an agent of change.  One, the artist Mata Hari, was eventually scapegoated by the French as a German spy and executed.  The other, James Stewart, risked his life and career to serve in the US Army Air Force in World War 2.   In the larger sense, both artists didn't culturally make a dent.  But band enough artists together and perhaps change can come about. But culture in the world as a single entity doesn't exist, further complicating things.  Russia's culture and China's culture exists at the whim of their leaders.   Culture exists in other countries, too.   Does India's culture have the responsibility to tell their leaders that they are dealing in "Blood Oil" from Russia?  Or as a culture, do they feel that this is OK? Can cultures influence other cultures?  And can individuals change cultures?  Or is Zelensky right in implying that up to now, Western Culture has been trying to have it both ways with the War in Ukraine?  Support the showWe are always grateful to have you listening to STRUNG OUT. Last week the government announced that it has allocated ₹19,744 crore for a National Green Hydrogen Mission. The Mission will aim to make India a ‘global hub' for producing, using and exporting green Hydrogen. India is not alone in formulating a green hydrogen strategy, or in setting aside big money for developing the country into a global hug for green hydrogen. In the last 18 months or so, several developing countries have zeroed in on green hydrogen, which is viewed by many as a silver bullet of sorts for decarbonisation. How will the National Green Hydrogen Mission be implemented? How does green hydrogen fit in with India's energy consumption profile? Does India have the manufacturing base to develop itself into a green hydrogen hub?

In mid-December, a government department told the Kerala High Court that Ribociclib, a drug prescribed for a type of breast cancer, did not meet the conditions necessary to issue a compulsory licence. The drug is patented and therefore cannot be made by generic manufacturers but a compulsory licence, if issued by the government would permit a drug to be manufactured and made available at an affordable price. The case involved a woman, now deceased who said that she and her husband had a joint income of ₹74,400 a month, while the drug Ribociclib cost her ₹58,140, making it unaffordable. A study by the Indian Council of Medical Research has found that breast cancer is one of the top cancers in women in India. Drug prices have evoked national interest following the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw widespread reporting of desperate patients turning to the black market for drugs and devices. In September, the Centre released the National List of Essential Medicines -- the list was released after a gap of seven years, and contains 384 drugs. Interestingly, it also has added, for the first time four drugs that are under patents. So what's in and out of the latest list? How are drug prices regulated in India, and how will the inclusion of drugs on the list help? Does India need to do more to make medicines affordable and accessible?

With India in its seventy-fifth year of independence, conventional policy is unlikely to combat the breadth of its economic challenges. Does India need the state to be big or small? Is growth to be manufacturing-led or services driven? Will India produce for the exports market or the home market? Do the young prefer government jobs to private sector employment? Across a range of areas - human capital, technology, agriculture, finance, trade, public service delivery and more - new ideas must now be on the table. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only cost India many lives and livelihoods, it has also exposed major structural weaknesses in the economy. A huge farm and jobs crisis, rising and massive inequalities, tepid investment growth, and chronic banking sector challenges have plagued the economy, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. It has also exposed the limitations of the Indian state, which tries to control too much-and ends up stifling the economy and the inherent energies of its young population. Climate change is no longer a distant threat, while disruptive technology has huge implications for India's demographic dividend. In addition, the dangerous lurch towards majoritarianism will cast its shadow on India's pursuit of prosperity for all.  In this episode of BIC Talks, authors of Unshackling India, Ajay Chibber and Salman Soz in a conversation with Ashima Goyal acknowledge hard truths and examine the question: Can India use the next twenty-five years, when it will reach the hundredth year of independence, to restructure not only its economy but rejuvenate its democratic energy and unshackle its potential-to become a genuinely developed economy by 2047? This conversation is an extract from a session at Bangalore Literature festival 2021, which took place in collaboration with BIC last December.  Subscribe to the BIC Talks Podcast on your favourite podcast app! Often referred to as the next big thing in the digital space, the metaverse has caught the fancy of big tech firms around the world. The belief is that soon we will all be hanging out in different digital worlds to work, play, attend concerts, watch movies, or catch up with a friend over coffee. The concept is now also finding firm ground in India, where many companies have begun exploring the space. Some have launched retail stores inside a metaverse shopping mall, while some have opened up office complexes. Some have even organised weddings. But does it all sound much like a souped-up version of virtual reality? Does India have the right technology and bandwidth to develop the metaverse, or is it just a fad that is likely to pass after some time? India's electricity sector is facing two major challenges - low electricity demand and massive overcapacity. On one hand, renewable energy installations are on the rise in the country but it is often curtailed. While 100 GW of solar and wind power have already been installed, 50 GW is under installation and 27 GW is under tendering. On the other hand, India is not cutting down its coal-based power generation but their viability remains under cloud as new efficiency standards kick in. Can India optimize its power sector such that renewables thrive, and efficient coal power plants get preference as India reduces its carbon and environmental footprint? In this episode, we spoke to Dr. R Srikanth, Professor & Dean, School of Natural Sciences and Engineering at the National Institute of Advanced Studies who proposes that India can shut down its old inefficient coal power plants to achieve these optimization goals. A vast majority of schools in India have been shut for over 15 months now, since March 2020, affecting 24 crore students. Various states have opened temporarily for senior classes, sometimes only to shut again when COVID-19 cases rose. Online classes have been around as a substitute, but with less than 25 percent of Indian households having access to the internet as per the National Sample Survey 2017-18, how far can digital learning go? He had used "stress" in his initial letter to the Editor of Nature in 1936, who suggested that it be deleted since this implied nervous strain and substituted alarm reaction. He was also unaware that stress had been used for centuries in physics to explain elasticity, the property of a material that allows it to resume its original size and shape after having been compressed or stretched by an external force. As expressed in Hooke's Law of 1658, the magnitude of an external force, or stress, produces a proportional amount of deformation, or strain, in a malleable metal. https://slatestarcodex.com/2020/02/05/suicide-hotspots-of-the-world/   [Content warning: suicide, rape, child abuse. Thanks to MC for some help with research.] I. Guyana has the highest national suicide rate in the world, 30 people per year per 100,000. Guyana has poverty and crime and those things, but no more so than neighboring Brazil (suicide rate of 6) or Venezuela (suicide rate of 4). What’s going on? One place to start: Guyana is a multi-ethnic country. Is its sky-high suicide rate focused in one ethnic group? The first answer I found was this article by a social justice warrior telling us it constitutes racial “essentialism” to even ask the question. But in the process of telling us exactly what kind of claims we should avoid, she mentions someone bringing up that “80% of the reported suicides are carried out by Indo-Guyanese”. I feel like one of those classicists who has reconstructed a lost heresy through hostile quotations in Irenaeus. Indo-Guyanese aren’t American Indians; they’re from actual India. Apparently thousands of Indians immigrated to Guyana as indentured laborers in the late 1800s. Most went to Guyana, and somewhat fewer went to neighboring Suriname. Suriname also has a sky-high suicide rate, but slightly less than Guyana’s, to the exact degree that its Indian population is slightly less than Guyana’s. Basically no Indians went anywhere else in South America, and nowhere else in South America has anywhere near the suicide rate of these two countries. The most Indian regions of Guyana also have the highest suicide rate. Hmmm. Does India itself have high suicide rates? On average, yes. But India has a lot of weird suicide microclimates. Statewide rates range from from 38 in Sikkim (higher than any country in the world) to 0.5 in Bihar (lower than any country in the world except Barbados). Indo-Guyanese mostly come from Bihar and other low-suicide regions. While I can’t rule out that the Indo-Guyanese come from some micro-micro-climate of higher suicidality, this guy claims to have traced them back to some of their ancestral villages and found that those villages have low suicide rates.

We try to find the answers to the following questions about ''Chennai Connect': ● Did Modi and Xi manage to revive the now-dead now-alive Wuhan Spirit? ● Has New Delhi managed to drive home the point about it's redlines to Beijing? ● Does India and China have enough modalities to work on improving their ties in the next 12 months? ● Is it too early to claim that Chennai Connect was a huge success without talking about tangible benefits? What explains the Chinese behaviour of staking its relations with India for this cause? Does the China-Pakistan grand strategic alliance aim at more than just containing India? The conversation also discusses the specifics of China’s strategies in its dealing with India. Does post-Wuhan phase offer more scope of rapprochement between the two giants or is just an eyewash? Does India have a choice to not accept rising dominance of China in the region and whether boycotting forums like CPEC and OBOR further Indian strategic objectives in the region?

Raghuram Rajan thinks a lot about how to empower individuals, both at the community and international level. In his new book, Rajan draws upon experience both as an academic and policymaker to break down how the three pillars of society — the state, markets, and communities — interact with each other, and argues that we’re currently balancing this complex relationship wrong.  How much has the U.S. actually fixed the financial system? Does India have the best food in the world? Why does China struggle to maintain a strong relationship with allies? Why are people trading close-knit communities for isolating cities? And what types of institutions are we missing in our social structure? Listen to Rajan’s thorough conversation with Tyler to dive into these questions and much more.
