From MPR News, Art Hounds are members of the Minnesota arts community who look beyond their own work to highlight what's exciting in local art. Click here.Memory and magicNanci Oleson describes herself as a visual artist, Montessori teacher and musician. She recommends the play “Five More Minutes” from Sod House Theater, which is currently on a tour of western Minnesota. This moving play about an elderly couple facing dementia will be at the YES! House in Granite Falls Thursday, the Little Theater Auditorium in New London Friday and at the Madison Mercantile in Madison, Minn., on Saturday night. Social worker Adenike Ade provides a post-show talk-back about Alzheimer's and dementia. Nanci says that show creators and performers Luverne Seifert and Joy Dolo are two of her favorite performers in the Twin Cities: You are watching an old couple who is playing” they're imagining adventures under the sea, into space … this is a way that they escape from their sort of mundane older lives. But as the show goes on, we see that one of them is starting to lose memory, starting to move into dementia, and the fear that accompanies this from both of them and the poignant way that they tell this story, the ups and the downs, [makes this play] just this really incredible, important piece. It provides everything I love, very good acting, amazing, delightful use of props and space, just gorgeous symphony between the two of them, as well as an educational experience and familiar experience of confronting dementia.— Nanci Oleson Dreamscape at duskSinger and artist Sarah Lynn of Brooklyn Park admires the work of Rimon, the Minnesota Jewish Arts Council. She wants people to know about Rimon's “Gallery of Dreams” Thursday night. It's the organization's annual fundraiser and an immersive art experience, featuring five local visual artists. The event is at 6:30 p.m. at the Machine Shop in Minneapolis. Sarah says: Every single one [of these immersive fundraisers] that they've had has been incredible, and it will help support the broader arts community and start building some bridges of understanding. — Sarah Lynn Painted dialogues exhibitElizabeth Millard is delighted to have the 210 Gallery & Art Center in her town of Sandstone located north of Hinckley. She recommends the current show “Deja Vu,” which features the work of two local artists, Jodie Briggs and TJ Rajala, who have created paintings in response to each other's work. That show runs through Oct. 20. Elizabeth says: The gallery is just delightful. It's in a former church, and it does have a kind of community-church kind of feel to it. They've brought a lot of cultural resources there: they have different types of shows, music and events. I've lived up here in the Northwoods for about 10 years and it's very challenging to find a lot of kind of passionate, cultural, artistic community-oriented resources and I think that this is really leading the way in terms of showing people that it can be done up here.— Elizabeth Millard

Welcome to another episode of Beautifully Broken with DawnRanae! Hiccups... yep, today is all about hiccups. The real ones, and the ones that pop up along life's journey and make you stop and think, What the Heck??? Sometimes, ok, almost always, if we take that moment in time the 'hiccup' created, to take a deep breath and count to 10... To just BE in that time and space... To appreciate where we are in our journey- whether good or bad... IF we could all just do that? I bet many of us would find they have a lot less regrets for things not done, words left unsaid, journeys not taken... That the wish for "Five More Minutes" would no longer be on the lips of the grieving, the dying... for those who have lived a life that has left them feeling empty and unfulfilled and suddenly realize they've run out of time to change it. Maybe you feel like I do... I should have done more at times, I should have done less at times... but all the time I need to remember to stop and take in the here and now before it's too late... And a little hint... the hardest part is taking that first step... Come on, take that first step with me... Follow me on social media and check out my website- where all my passions come together! Scotty McCreery found his fame on American Idol, now he's sing about his idol George Strait. "Damn Strait” is his current single, a classic country heartbreak song that's also a tribute to George Strait. It's currently the fastest rising song of his career top 30 and rising. He's performing at Grizzly Rose this Friday with 1067 The Bull. Scotty is in the midst of his SAME TRUCK TOUR, named after his new album SAME TRUCK that came out in the fall. The album already features his #1 hit “You Time” (his fourth consecutive #1 hit after “Five More Minutes,” “This is It” and “In Between” on his previous album SEASONS CHANGE).Scotty will be making his debut at the C2C (Country 2 Country) Music Festival in London, Dublin, and Glasgow in March. He'll also have shows in Germany and the Netherlands. Later this spring he'll perform at the Hangover Fest in Las Vegas, the iHeartCountry Festival in Austin, and the Tortuga Fest in Fort Lauderdale.

This is the first of five podcasts we are releasing this week. Pray for us. In this episode, we reviewed "A Kiss Before Christmas" starring James Denton and Teri Hatcher, as well as "Five More Minutes" starring Nikki DeLoach and David Haydn Jones. A Kiss before Christmas is the second Christmas movie this year where a main character goes back into an alternate reality and is tasked to find out why they were sent back to get back to their reality. Both of us liked this movie more than Next Stop Christmas. Better chemistry between the actors, and the reason why he had to go back was very clear from the beginning. There were some points of contention though, such as poor shaming. I mean Ethan had a loving wife, kids, and a big house and car, yet it still wasn't enough for him. I mean I get it that it's to keep appearances with the company, but his life was good. No one really needs a chauffeur or a Ferrari. Five More Minutes was a tear jerker, and a perfect movie. We talked to Nikki in depth about this movie. It is beautiful story and great premise. We gave A Kiss Before Christmas 3.5 stars and gave Five More Minutes 5 stars. We praise the representation in A Holiday in Harlem. From an all black cast to a curvy beautiful lead. We also loved the neighborhood feel of this movie. The block party was the bomb and the fashion show was very much like a black fashion show. (That's how it was in my neighborhood growing up anyway. lol.) Also we are very critical of Hallmark's lack of advertising this movie, which in our opinion was a big contribution to its ratings. Kayla and I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars One December Night was heavy, touching upon subjects of alzheimer's, alcoholism, abandonment and cancer. But it was beautifully done. You cried and you laughed. The actors all had chemistry and was believable. Also this had the right amount of singing, which was a critic we had with Christmas in Harmony. We wanted more singing in the movie since it centered around a choir. This storyline, singing only in the end made sense since both men were reluctant to work together Kayla gives this one 5 stars. I give it 4.8. *My favorite is still Christmas in My Heart. Sunday, November 21, we will be releasing our interview with Nikki DeLoach about her newest movie, Five More Minutes. It was an honor to interview her. November is National Epilepsy Awareness Month. Kayla has epilepsy. Nikki DeLoach is kicking off the holidays in The Batter's Box! DeLoach's latest film Five More Minutes premieres on November 20th at 10 p.m. ET, as she helps headline Hallmark Movies & Mysteries' annual Miracles of Christmas lineup. In addition to her home runs as a leading lady on-screen, you can also enjoy her work as a writer in Christmas for Keeps, which premieres on Saturday, December 18th as part of the same lineup. DeLoach got her start in show business on The Mickey Mouse Club in 1993 when she was just 14 years old and now has career highlights that span anything from her leading role in MTV's Awkward to serving as a Celebrity Champion and spokesperson for The Alzheimer's Association. This week, she joins host Al Malafronte for some World Series talk, Broadway chatter, and to discuss the incredible backstories behind her two latest projects. One of the most fascinating parts of our conversation came when we touched on her decision to join the Hallmark family, as it was largely rooted in the struggle that many athletes and entertainers face when it comes to not wanting to be treated as a commodity. DeLoach is as real as they come and this chat certainly showcases that. Anotha' one! Did you enjoy these 2 stories? Would you like to hear more? Tell us what you think - we wanna know! @illestcouple on TwitterHey friends, please join me for a SPOOOOKY tale to celebrate the best holiday of all! As a special bonus, while the illest couple revamps, I am reading a couple of disturbing short stories that kept me on the edge of my seat till the end. I love all things in the thriller and horror genre, and apparently, a lot of us with anxiety do! I would've thought it would be the opposite, but it gets your worried brain to focus on now instead of overthinking the past or future. Please curl up with a blanket, a hot cup of something, and lose yourself for a bit.

Thought this might be a good thought to remind all of us as we enter back into the craziness of school starting. In this episode I'll share a thought about the value of just five more minutes. It's human nature to not realize what we have until it's gone, but it's human nature, that we are here to change, and we can take a big step today in just five more minutes. In January of 2007, 37-year-old mother of three Karen Bodine was murdered. She had been strangled. Her killer(s) posed her body on the side of a busy road in Thurston County. Detectives have DNA and no shortage of suspects, but the case has gone cold. Karen's daughter is now working to get multiple billboards up throughout Washington State with a picture of her mother and a plea for tips to solve the case.

McCreery also talks about being looked at as a perfect Christian kid after winning American Idol's 10th season in 2011 and the difficulties of living up to that image, which can be heard on "In Between" with a set of lyrics that try to dispel the wunderkind pedestal he was put on. The murder of Kitty Genovese in 1964 became the story of urban apathy, but did 38 neighbors really standby and watch the young woman get brutally murdered? "Time rolls by the clock don't stop / I wish I had a few more drops of the good stuff, the good times / Oh, but they just keep on flying right on by like it ain't nothing / Wish I had me a pause button / Moments like those, Lord knows I'd hit it and give myself five more minutes." Found myself singing this song a lot this week as summer faded into fall and the kids went back to school. Time is going by so fast - I wish I could just pause it or at least slow it down. How about you? One day, my kids were young - and now, they are almost grown and gone! This week at Mendham Hills - how to buy yourself five more minutes (and how to spend them!).
She'd had hits on QYK already but when Lauren Alaina teamed up with Kane Brown to record "What Ifs," her career reached another level. I asked if she thought a duet would be what does that for her. Lauren walked away with the ACM for New Female Vocalist. Lauren is also a big fan of the Florida Strawberry Festival. She's gotta go back though because she only had strawberries when she was in Plant City. As the ambassador of Funnel Bacon on a Stick, my favorite food of all time, I felt the need to educate her in case a Festival return is in the cards for her. Everyone needs to experience that maple butter glaze on top of bacon and funnel cake. Even though she's had hit singles, Lauren will forever be linked with fellow American Idol alum Scotty McCreery and a fan wanted to know if there would ever be a collaboration with the two of them. Lauren says she's happy for Scotty having his first #1 with "Five More Minutes." She relates, saying both of their first albums were missing that personal connection and telling their stories like she did with "Road Less Traveled." Clearly the formula has worked for both of them this year.
It's been a pretty big year for QYK artist Scotty McCreery. He popped the question to his girl and finally landed his first #1 song after a lot of record company problems. But I had a more pressing question. Why did the New England Patriots bench Malcolm Butler? Scotty and I are both huge Pats fans. I know. I know. Sorry... hey the Bucs are my NFC team, but I grew up in Maine. In our chat, Scotty revealed the true reason why the Patriots lost in the Super Bowl. Come to find out, it was his fault. So thus he owes me a lot of money. We also talked of course about his QYK #1 "Five More Minutes." The song marked a big transition for him. His writing has matured and he's connecting with country listeners on a deeper personal level. But my question for Scotty was if there was any hesitation that maybe the song might be too personal for others to relate to the song. Clearly it wasn't. If you missed it, here's my backstage interview with Scotty McCreery from the 2018 ACM Awards in Las Vegas.
