Explore the critical concept of Perception/Action Coupling in this enlightening episode of "The Coach Dave Love Podcast," hosted by NBA Shooting Coach Dave Love and co-host Matt Robertson. In "Perception/Action Coupling," they delve into what this theory is and why it is essential for basketball shooting development. Key Points of Discussion: Understanding Perception/Action Coupling: Dave starts by explaining the basics of Perception/Action Coupling — the idea that the perceptions (what we see and feel) directly inform the actions (how we react and execute skills) in sports. This connection is fundamental to training athletes to make split-second decisions under game conditions. From Isolation to Game-Representativeness: The episode covers the transition from practicing basketball skills in isolation to incorporating more game-like scenarios. Dave and Matt discuss how creating practice environments that mimic game situations can significantly improve a player's ability to perform under pressure. Practical Applications: Learn specific ways to apply Perception/Action Coupling in basketball training. The hosts provide insights into training techniques for complex movements like fade-aways, emphasizing how to integrate perceptual cues into the shooting process effectively. This episode is packed with actionable advice on enhancing the way players practice by making training sessions more representative of actual game play. Understanding and implementing Perception/Action Coupling can transform training approaches and elevate player performance in critical game moments. Be sure to subscribe to "The Coach Dave Love Podcast" for more in-depth discussions on basketball shooting techniques and training philosophies. Welcome to episode sixty-eight of New Creation Conversations. I'm excited to get to share with you today a second conversation with Dr. Myles Werntz. Myles is the Director of Baptist Studies and Associate Professor of Theology at Abilene Christian University, where he directs the Baptist Studies Center in the Graduate School of Theology. He is the author and editor of several books in theology and ethics and writes broadly on the Christian ethics of war and peace, immigration, ecclesiology, and discipleship. We had a conversation a few months ago with is friend David Cramer about their co-authored book A Field Guide to Christian Nonviolence. In this conversation Myles and I discuss his brand-new book, From Isolation to Community: A Renewed Vision for Christian Life Together – published by Baker Academic.Like many others, the works of Dietrich Bonhoeffer have been deeply influential. Bonhoeffer's Letters, Ethics, and The Cost of Discipleship have been important formative works in my journey. However, perhaps the work that I have returned to repeatedly is his little tract Life Together. In his new book, Myles takes Bonhoeffer's work and reflects on the theme of isolation as one of the key problems of our age. Profoundly, Myles reflects on how the church, even while meeting together lives into and exacerbates the problem of isolation. He even points to the ease with which most congregations were able to navigate the separation created by the pandemic as a sign of the way isolation has taken hold of our imaginations. Like Bonhoeffer himself, Myles goes beyond analysis and offers theological depth and describes the practices that might heal our isolation. It is a thoughtful book that resonated deeply with me, and I know you'll find this conversation helpful as well.

EXCITING NEWS for July - more details in the episode and by clicking th links below. In this second season of the podcast we have been mainly focusing on conversations with people about creating new opportunities, communities and spaces for young people & youth workers to engage with as a result of the pandemic. My book, From Isolation to Community: Youth Work in the Covid Era and Beyond captures a snapshot of what has been happening in this past year & is available now. One of my passions has been supporting those who work with young people and this was part of the aim of the book, to showcase and reflect on the work that's happening up and down the country. I also offer mentoring for youth workers, regular sessions over a 6 month period to support youth workers in their roles, acting as a sounding board, as an encourager to make small changes or to think different things through. If you're interested in mentoring or having conversations about the themes from the book then I am available for book clubs, for resourcing and reflecting with your team or for encouraging youth workers to consider the impact of this pandemic and how we can move forward. You can buy the book or get in touch by going to my website www.jenniosborn.organd clicking on one of the options there. This episode is a conversation with Adam Muirhead from the Trust for Community Development in Brighton. We talk about youth work and politics, the creativity and flexibility of youth workers during this past year in particular that can also lead to burnout because, for the most part, we are natural ‘helpers' and ‘doers'. There's something very profound about the concept of doing less, better in our work and making small changes that will have a big impact. This episode is a conversation with Charis Robertson from Hot Chocolate in Dundee. They are one of the organisations which are included in the book, and I wanted to find out bit about where things are at for them right now, at a time when much of the UK is emerging from lockdown. I remember hearing about Hot Chocolate at the time that it was just beginning its work with young people. The idea of ‘meeting young people where they are at' is one which permeates a lot of youth work, whether it's faith based or not, and I have loved talking to many for whom it is their clarion call. The values of Hot Chocolate are unashamedly Christian, values of radical inclusion, of binding the broken hearted and of offering freedom for young people to be the truest version of themselves. It began 20 years ago with cups of hot chocolate and a listening ear, it continues with pool tables and art classes and mental health support even at a time of tight restrictions. This is a conversation that has a personal element to it for me, having had some really difficult times wrestling with faith and beliefs that I once followed without questioning suddenly becoming the source of many questions! I know that I am not the only one and wanted to have this conversation to connect with those listening who might feel similarly, maybe you've reached a place of acceptance with doubt and questions, maybe you're just at the beginning of this process, either way I agree with Joe that it's a necessary part of life and faith. Church-based youth work has historically looked very different in Austria, as you'll hear him explain. I find it fascinating having spent some time in Austria myself over a number of years, and always found myself wondering where the church is at work. It's really encouraging to hear David's enthusiasm, and desire to bring change whilst honouring the church's traditions and ways of working. It's worth highlighting the honourable mention for Margaret Pritchard Houston and her book on Children's Spirituality called Beyond the Children's Corner who came on this podcast a few months ago – Margaret, if you're listening to this and can encourage your publisher to publish the book in German I know David would be hugely appreciative! Hello and welcome to season 2 of the Jenni Talks podcast. In this season we are going to focus on conversations with people about creating new opportunities, communities and spaces for young people & youth workers to engage with as a result of the pandemic. I have written a book called From Isolation to Community: Youth Work in the Covid Era and Beyond that is available now. In it I have recorded the stories of many people working with young people across the UK during the pandemic, we will be hearing from some of these same youth workers but also from others who I've come across who are doing some amazing things to engage, enable and encourage young people to really thrive despite all the restrictions that have been put on us in these pandemic times. You can buy the book by going to my website www.jenniosborn.org and clicking on one of the options there. He also works with The Feast who are an interfaith organisation based in Luton. I was particularly interested in his experiences using Discord to connect with young people online and how this has worked, Adam gives a really comprehensive picture of how youth workers can use discord well with groups which I found really fascinating and hope that you'll find it very useful indeed. The link for the Guidelines on Dialogue which is mentioned by Adam is this one https://thefeast.org.uk/resources#guidelines I hope you enjoy this conversation and don't forget to share! Their story of youth work during the pandemic features in the book and it was one that really stood out to me, in particular Steve's use of the phrase Wilderness Prophets, I found this a really powerfully positive image of young people and I'm really pleased that I've started to hear it a bit more widely even since this conversation was recorded. Again for this conversation I adopted the slightly different style so the next voice you'll hear is Steve's explaining how the need for change during the pandemic has meant they have been working much more collaboratively with other organisations and how that has impacted them as a charity. Certainly throughout these pandemic times we have watched young people be overlooked or dismissed or worse punished as in the case of the exam results chaos of last summer. In this episode, I talk to Tamar Mitts who is Assistant Professor at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. We discuss her 2019 article “From Isolation to Radicalization: Anti-Muslim Hostility and Support for ISIS in the West” which was published in the American Political Science Review. The article investigates how anti-muslim hostility fuels jihadi radicalization and stated support for ISIS in 4 Western European countries. It analyzes social media data in order to measure radicalization and locate ISIS supporters. The article demonstrates that ISIS support is higher, where radical right parties receive a higher share of the vote and where more hate crimes against Muslims take place. In contrast the number of asylum seekers is negatively correlated with the level of ISIS support. In addition to this, we discuss the effectiveness of measures of de-radicalization and patterns of radicalization among other groups such as white supremacists and the extreme right. Social media plays an important role for many of the mechanisms discussed throughout the episode. If you want to know more about Tamar and her research, you can follow her on Twitter under “at” TamarMitts or visit her website http://tamarmitts.com/ I hope you enjoy the conversation.
