Learn more: There Is No Other Way Pre-OrderAbout George Ivanovich GurdjieffGurdjieff, who was born in the late 1800's, was a philosopher, mystic, spiritual teacher, composer, and movements teacher. Born in the Russian Empire, he briefly became a citizen of the First Republic of Armenia after its formation in 1918, but fled the impending Red Army invasion of Armenia in 1920, which rendered him stateless. Gurdjieff taught that people are not conscious of themselves and thus live their lives in a state of hypnotic "waking sleep", but that it is possible to awaken to a higher state of consciousness and serve our purpose as human beings. He is a filmmaker and director, most recently coming out with Brilliant Disguise. Brilliant Disguise tells the unique story of a group of inspired Western spiritual seekers from the 60s, who in meeting the great American teacher, Ram Dass, followed him to India to meet his Guru, Neem Karoli Baba, familiarly known as Maharaj-ji. Two days before he left his body, Maharaj-ji instructed K.C. Tewari to take care of the Westerners, which he did resolutely until the day he died in 1997. Silver's #1 charting MGM/UA/Warners film, “The Compleat Beatles” is the critically acclaimed biopic movie about history's most famous band. The term ‘rockumentary' was first applied to this two-hour movie. Rolling Stone recently described the film as a “masterwork.” Silver's Warner Brothers' feature film, “No Nukes” also started the whole trend of music/activism feature documentaries.“His father basically said to him, you must not do anything old, you must always try and do something new and fresh, you must already be honest, you must always support yourself, These were all important in Gurdjieff's life. Podcast: This week on The Mystical Positivist, hosts Stuart Goodnick and Rob Schmidt feature two episodes from the Western Baul Podcast Series recorded earlier this year. In the first hour we present the talk, Cultivating Transparency: Realizing the Emptiness of the Stories You Tell Yourself, and in the second hour we present the talk, Languaging Nonduality. The podcast descriptions are as follows: Cultivating Transparency: Realizing the Emptiness of the Stories You Tell Yourself We could say that all we know about ourselves cognitively are stories we tell ourselves. These are not necessarily obvious to us because they play so constantly. We respond to the universe through the stories that filter our experience. How do we work with this since we can't think ourselves out of this box? Transparency hints at a different way of relating to stories. Many stories we identify with are cultural views. Stories in and of themselves are not a problem; they are a feature of what it is to be human. It's when we hold onto stories that they capture our energy and attention so we don't come back to the present and to the next event gifted to us by the universe. Transparency involves listening, seeing, generosity of spirit to others and ourselves, without reactivity to a story. This is not trivial work and a tool we have is self-observation, which is an energetic and not an analytical act. One feature of mature practice is relaxation of the tense form of attention we compulsively hold. This can allow for humor and for different kinds of spaces or chambers to be created. Belief is an emotional relationship with a lie. When a story turns into a belief, we can't put it down. Resistance manifests differently in the three centers that are discussed in the Gurdjieff work. It is a rich vein to mine to reclaim energy of attention we've invested in story. Conscious suffering is the willingness to be present with resistance. Practice can be seen as an offering rather than as a story with an agenda to wake up. Creativity is an end in itself, the universe doing what it most wants to do. When not bound by our stories, we can accept the universe's invitations to engage in higher work.is a Western spiritual tradition founded by George Gurdjieff, a mystic of Greek and Armenian origin who taught in Russia, Europe, and America and died in 1949. The system he developed out of his own spiritual search, which is shrouded in mystery, is completely unique and geared toward working with a modern mindset of “waking sleep” in the West. The Fourth Way Tradition has been considered by some to be humorless and dogmatically committed to a rigid system of practices and ideas, but this ignores Gurdjieff's own flexibility ranging from playfulness to penetrating compassion. Today's speakers are dharma heirs of Tayu Meditation Center's founder Robert Daniel Ennis, whose teachings were anchored in the Fourth Way but ranged widely beyond that source material. Languaging Nonduality Grounded practice gives us direct experience of the pervasiveness of the mechanical, identified mind. Before we have direct experience of something, linguistic representations are ineffective at transmitting what it is. There is a distinction between results and practice. A teaching can be the result of practice, such as loving our neighbor, but we may consider it as a practice that we are unable to embody without having cultivated the necessary quality of being. Seeing the world as non-dual is a result, not a practice. When nonduality is taken as an intellectual proposition, mind pastes over experience and co-opts the spiritual process, which is not realization. There are poets like Ursula Le Guin who use language to “point at the moon” or the sacred. There has to be some work with mind for the intuition and depth of nonduality to take root and inform all aspects of our lives. We may not be in a new paradigm of spiritual practice, but we are in a new paradigm of access to information and teachings. Nonduality is one way among others to talk about reality. Different spiritual approaches work for different people. For many, something has to be dislodged from its static position around the heart. There's truth to being non-dual and to being dual, which is paradoxical and indicative of a greater mystery. We can be grateful for language that brings our attention to something bigger than the small self. It's not words but the carrier wave, where someone is coming from, that transmits what words point to. It's helpful to hang out with people who share spiritual intention. Everyone doesn't need to be involved in formal spiritual practice; lives are equally valid. The Western Baul Podcast Series features talks by practitioners of the Western Baul path. Topics are intended to offer something of educational, inspirational, and practical value to anyone drawn to the spiritual path. For Western Bauls, practice is not a matter of philosophy but is expressed in everyday affairs, service to others, and music and song. There is the recognition that all spiritual traditions have examples of those who have realized that there is no separate self to substantiate—though one will always exist in form—and that “There is only God” or oneness with creation. Western Bauls, as named by Lee Lozowick (1943-2010), an American spiritual Master who taught in the US, Europe, and India and who was known for his radical dharma, humor, and integrity, are kin to the Bauls of Bengal, India, with whom he shared an essential resonance and friendship. Lee's spiritual lineage includes Yogi Ramsuratkumar and Swami Papa Ramdas. Rob Schmidt and Stuart Goodnick are the spiritual directors of Tayu Meditation Center. Rob has made contributions to the practice of anthropological archaeology and currently runs Tayu's spiritual bookstore in Sebastopol, California, Many Rivers Books & Tea. Stuart is an engineer in a Fortune 500 company and plays the shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) as a spiritual practice. In this episode, Layman returns to the show for the seventh time to discuss his recently published book, Gurdjieff for a Time Between Worlds. In it, Layman recounts Gurdjieff's fascinating life and approach to spirituality and why the book was a “hyperpersonal” endeavor that was appropriate for the metamodern age. Layman also clarifies some common misconceptions, explains why he has a unique take on Gurdjieff and bridges Gurdjieff's perspective on the body, emotions, and the mind with UTOK's conception of the three layers of mindedness (https://www.psychologytoday.com/intl/blog/theory-of-knowledge/202401/the-mind-versus-layers-of-mindedness). A few years ago, I met Marianne Costa in a garden in Avon, France, along with a mutual friend who was on a pilgrimage to George Gurdjieff's grave, located just around the corner from where I live. We had a fascinating conversation, during which she spoke insightfully about Tarot and her collaboration with Alejandro Jodorowsky, among other topics. Though I was impressed by her depth of knowledge, I remained somewhat indifferent toward Tarot at the time. A few years later, my wife gifted me The Way of Tarot, which Costa co-authored with Jodorowsky. It turned out to be the most practical and compelling book I had ever read on the subject, sparking a personal journey to explore the symbolism of the Tarot. It wasn't until a few years after that, during a psycho-magic reading in a smoky bar in Paris, that I realized I had encountered Tarot symbolism before. Synchronicities abound! Bio: Marianne Costa, born 1966, holds a M.A. in comparative literature and is a renowned Tarot expert. She has published several books translated in various languages, among which : No Woman's Land (novel, Grasset 2004), The Way of Tarot (with Jodorowsky, Inner Traditions 2005, German edition Windpferd 2008) and Metagenealogy (France 2011, USA 2014, a study of family as both a treasure and a trap, also with Jodorowsky). She collaborates with institutions and museums as a symbology expert — most recently with the Guggenheim Collection in Venice and Accademia di Belle Arti in Palermo. Her last opus, an essay on Tarot's history, symbolism and iconography Le Tarot pas à pas («Tarot step by step ») is already available in French, Spanish and Italian. Her polyfacetic carreer includes being a professional actress and singer, writing and translating poetry, novels and essays, and teaching groups worldwide in Tarot, transgenerational psychology and what she calls « healing fictions », an original technique that combine and surpasses therapy, self-development and artistic expression. She is the translator of Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poetry in French. Her base is in Paris and she has been a passionate tango dancer and singer for the last decade. The Fourth Way, also known as "the way of the sly man," is a concept developed by the Russian philosopher and mystic George Gurdjieff in the early 20th century. It is a spiritual path that differs from the three traditional ways to enlightenment: the way of the fakir (physical mastery), the way of the monk (devotional practice), and the way of the yogi (mental development). Is the universe more interconnected than we realize? Could hidden forces influence the growth and behavior of living things? Some believe energy flows, unseen fields, and ancient practices could hold the key to a deeper understanding of our world...and ourselves. Are these notions pure fantasy, or could they reveal hidden truths?Follow the Fourth Way Here -- https://www.youtube.com/@The4thway and https://twitter.com/The4thWayYT and https://ko-fi.com/thefourthwayLIVE ON Digital Radio! http://bit.ly/3m2Wxom or http://bit.ly/40KBtlWhttp://www.troubledminds.org Support The Show!https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/troubled-minds-radio--4953916/supporthttps://rokfin.com/creator/troubledmindshttps://patreon.com/troubledmindshttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/troubledmindshttps://troubledfans.comFriends of Troubled Minds! - https://troubledminds.org/friendsShow Schedule Sun-Mon-Tues-Wed-Thurs 7-10pstiTunes - https://apple.co/2zZ4hx6Spotify - https://spoti.fi/2UgyzqMTuneIn - https://bit.ly/2FZOErSTwitter - https://bit.ly/2CYB71U----------------------------------------https://troubledminds.org/the-fourth-way-meme-magic-and-gurdjieffs-ray-of-creation/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fourth_Way_(book)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Gurdjieffhttps://gurdjiefflegacy.org/70links/fourthway.htmhttps://gurdjiefflegacy.org/https://ggurdjieff.com/fourth-way/https://thewordcounter.com/what-does-a-picture-is-worth-a-thousand-words-mean/https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/enlightenment/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8372971/https://www.shortform.com/blog/what-is-the-fourth-turning/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strauss%E2%80%93Howe_generational_theoryhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enneagram_of_Personalityhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_G._Bennett

We are not our personalities. However, when we are unaware of our lower selves, it's easy to identify with our personalities. In this episode, Uranio Paes goes through each of the nine types to give examples of how to fool the personality so that we can be free from its hold on us. Each of the nine Enneagram types has an over-developed Center of Intelligence. Uranio talks about The Fourth Way, an approach to self-development created by George Gurdjieff. Gurdjieff was the pioneer who brought the Enneagram to the West. He taught that the first way is the way of the body, the second is the way of the heart, and the third is the way of the mind. The Fourth Way is mixing these three Centers of Intelligence so our personality doesn't control how we react and we can be a more complete human beyond the confines of our personality. Podcast: This week on the show, we present a pre-recorded conversation with Robin Bloor about his latest book, Gurdjieff & Kundabuffer – Food for the Moon. Bloor writes: “The idea that mankind is ‘food for the moon' seems, when you first encounter the idea, to be ridiculous. Nevertheless, it may well be so… To understand this theory, one needs on the one hand, to examine it from a scientific perspective, and on the other, to study Beelzebub's Tales deeply to uncover what Gurdjieff says about it and also what he relates about the implanting of the organ Kundabuffer in Man – and the subsequent consequences of its remarkable properties.” Robin was born in 1951 in Liverpool, UK. He obtained a BSc in Mathematics at Nottingham University and took up a career in the computer industry, initially writing software. From 1989 onwards, he became a technology analyst and consultant. He has thus been a writer of a kind ever since. In 2002 he was awarded an honorary Ph.D. in Computer Science by Wolverhampton University in the UK. He currently resides in and works from Austin, Texas in the USA. In 1988, Bloor met and became a pupil of Rina Hands. Rina was a one-time associate of J. G. Bennett, a student of Peter Ouspensky's, and later, a pupil of George Gurdjieff. Following Gurdjieff's death, she remained part of J. G. Bennett's group for a while. Subsequently, she formed groups both in London, where she lived, and in Bradford in the North of England - initially in conjunction with Madame Nott. She was an accomplished movements teacher and an inspirational group leader. She died in 1994 and is buried next to Jane Heap in a cemetery in North London. Robin leads a regular group, The Austin Gurdjieff Society, in Austin, Texas. He produces a monthly newsletter, The Lost Herald, and runs the website, ToFathomTheGist.com. He also organizes multiple on-line study groups to Gurdjieff's writings and Gurdjieff's Objective Science. Robin has written or edited nine books about the Work including the To Fathom the Gist series and Gurdjieff's Hydrogens – Volume 1: The Ray of Creation. As context for this conversation I recommend the following: Video on martial arts; Geoff's Ted Talk. Geoff Thompson is famous in the world of self defence. After becoming a highly ranked martial artist in numerous disciplines, Geoff became a nightclub bouncer in Coventry in the UK at a time when it was known as the most violent city in Europe. From this experience he went on to develop a form of martial arts based on real world situations that centred on the idea of efficacy, or to put it another way - hitting first. From this he became one of the world's leading self defence experts and got to a point where he was teaching Chuck Norris's students in the US. In this rather esoteric conversation Geoff discusses how he used methods from his martial arts training to develop himself spiritually and overcome the darkness within him. While beginning with spiritual martial arts teachers such as Gichin Funakosi and Morihei Ueshiba, Geoff's spiritual knowledge has come from places as diverse as George Gurdjieff, the Armenian born mystic, the Srimad Bhagavatam, one of the great Hindu Puranas, Roman Catholicism and Rumi. As you'll come to hear in our conversation, Geoff considers his time as a nightclub bouncer as being a true metaphysical experience. A list of Geoff's published works can be found on his Wikipedia page and his instagram is https://www.instagram.com/geoff_thompson_official/?hl=en If you want to get in touch, my email is jack@religionreconsidered.com Thank you for joining us and I hope you enjoy the podcast.
In the Enneagram, Arrows and Wings are central to understanding how the symbol can be used as a tool for personal development. In this episode, Beatrice Chesnut and Uranio describe the Enneagram not as a static symbol, but as a symbol in movement, using the teachings from the philosopher George Gurdjieff. There is an order that each type can take that eases the challenges the ego will face when evolving into a higher self. They explain how to discern between positive and negative movements towards wings and arrows, and why a balanced approach is necessary. Bea and Uranio are hosting an online inner work retreat called The Way of the Enneagram, happening in January of 2024. In this episode, Bea and Uranio have a second conversation with Russ Hudson and discuss their understanding of the Enneagram Centers of Intelligence. People tend to have a simplified understanding of the Centers when it comes to the original teachings of George Gurdjieff. They discuss the power that each Center of Intelligence has and how each type has a bias towards over using its associated center. Learn about discerning which center we are coming from in situations and how to avoid the wrong use of the centers. Also, our TOP 5 is the most important things to keep in mind when doing high quality inner work using the Enneagram. We currently have a Master the Enneagram Centers of Intelligence workshop. It's a 6 part 2-hour workshop over three weeks and you can watch the recordings of any sessions you miss. What is George Gurdjieff's self-remembering? How would you define self-remembering in the context of personal growth, self-awareness, with a focus on the cultivation of healthy relationships? In what ways do you think self-remembering can enhance our understanding of ourselves and our Significant other while in intimate relationship? How can self-remembering help us become more present and engaged in the day to day activities involving an intimate relationship? What role does self-remembering play in developing a deeper connection with our own emotions and thoughts as well as our John Bowlby inspired attachment styles? How can self-remembering contribute to our ability to empathize with ourselves as well as understand and empathize others? In what ways can self-remembering help us break free from automatic patterns of behavior and thought? How does self-remembering relate to the concept of mindfulness and being in the present moment? Can self-remembering help us become more attuned to our physical sensations and bodily experiences? How can self-remembering assist us in recognizing and challenging our own biases and assumptions?
George Gurdjieff shares that the great mystics or saints in all religious traditions have deep longing for at-onement in God. This episode is a cannabis-fueled 4/20 celebration! Alas, I was not here to record for it -- but Jefferson Tilamookslinger was thankfully available to fill in and keep the flame alive! For those unaware, Jefferson first appeared in Black Hoodie Alchemy #34 and is a former Illuminati cloning-lab-manager that has since relocated to the Florida Everglades, joining the forces of Tippy Patson's League of Extordiarny Gentlemen! (For the uninitiated, you can listen to it all through episodes #14, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, and 38, and learn about these men that are too stupid to be a cult but too organized to just be hanging out in a swamp.) As I am preparing for a family wedding/reunion and everything that this will entail out-of-state, this will be the last Black Hoodie Alchemy episode until May 8th -- but rest assured the show will come back swingin' as as always! So, aside from Jefferson smoking dope, we have a friend of the show and fellow alchemist, Martin Ferretti, joining the program to tell us all about the life and philosophy of contemporary philosopher and mystic, George Gurdjieff. Most active during the turn into the 20th century, Gurdjieff was an eccentric figure that aspired to find a path to a practical enlightenment -- i.e. an enlightenment that did not inherently require a monkhood or hermetic nature that eschewed the rest of society. If he hadn't been so genuine and effective, you could potentially see the mechanics of a cult in Gurdjieff's Fourth Way of Enlightenment, and some might still consider it as such! But is there any real merit to this? Who was Gurdjieff anyway? An eccentric mystic, an opportunist, a charlatan, or what? Listen in as Martin and Jefferson give you a thorough and detailed explanation of these concepts and so much more! Oh, and happy toking -- don't forget to roll up and blow that sacramental ganja to the sky this 4/20 season! We hope you dig this week's show. See you May 8th. What better way to ring in the New Year than with a freeranging discussion of the dreaded thirteenth arcanum of the tarot? Of all topics, surely death needs the least introduction. Or does it? To those of us who inhabit the castellated compounds of post-industrial privilege, it is perhaps too easy to forget the uninvited guest who skulks in the shadows, touching each of us in turn as he sidles past. "Nothing is certain except death and taxes," Benjamin Franklin once wrote. He was joking, of course. The truth is that death is the only certainty. Claims about Prince Harry's use of a “Meow” audiobook to lull a Sussex prostitute into a state of autoerotic trance have spread like wildfire in the weeks leading up to the release of his white-hot memoir, Spare, where they, along with a litany of other feline-tinged indiscretions, are allegedly recounted in detail. In this episode, Oxford linguist Sam Austen plays a 20-minute segment of “Meow: A Novel,” his 14.5-hour audio opus, and explains how this, in conjunction with an obscure hypnotic technique promulgated by George Gurdjieff, could be used to such an end – with shocking efficacy. This is a very special and different episode for the podcast. The question we are asking, do we return and live our lives over infinitely as Neville Goddard describes in his wheel of recurrence. Neville Goddard spoke in over 20 lectures of the unique idea that the soul in fact does not reincarnate but goes back in time, reliving the same life over starting from 20 years old, sometimes in the same timeline, sometimes in the past or future. Goddard explained that we do this over and over for 6000 years until we flower and experience the promise. In a recent interview with Josiah Brandt, he asked me if I had heard refernce to the Goddard's wheel of recurrence anywhere else? I was perplexed and began looking to see if there was any similar discussion by other classic writers. Initially I found nothing but eventually I came upon a concept that appears to have been quite popular in past philosophical descriptions by everyone from Plato, Pythagoras, Nietzsche, Ouspensky and Gurdjieff. This lead me down a wide rabbit hole of information and discussion of the concept of eternal return PD Ouspensky a russian mystic who studied with the Gurdjiefff another amazing and very different mystical writer, believed that we repeat our lives infinitely. Ouspensky believes that many of us may experience this lives differently each time, evolving, intuiting the future because you have already experienced it. Evolving in a groundhog's day lifetime. Goddard explains that he could remember these lives in one lecture claiming that he had died repeatedly in his sixties. Here I read each the majority of what Goddard has to say in reference to the wheel of recurrence and then explore what ouspensky discusses in his book the search for the miraculous as well as discussing other sources of discussion of the eternal return. Perhaps it is not parallel realities you experiencing but a memory of past lives as we move through the wheel of recurrence. Podcast: This week on The Mystical Positivist, hosts Stuart Goodnick and Rob Schmidt feature a podcast they recorded on July 9th, 2022, for the Western Baul Podcast Series entitled Fourth Way Magic: How Hermetic and Indigenous Traditions Interface with the Gurdjieff Work. The podcast description is as follows: The Fourth Way is a Western spiritual tradition founded by George Gurdjieff, a mystic of Greek and Armenian origin who taught in Russia, Europe, and America and died in 1949. In recent years, Rob Schmidt and Stuart Goodnick have explored and adopted practices from the western hermetic magical traditions and indigenous traditions including African and native Californian. In this talk they will discuss how the work from these traditions can enrich and expand the indispensable foundation they honor from the Fourth Way. Stuart is an executive in a Fortune 500 company and plays the shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) as a spiritual practice. More information about Tayu Meditation Center can be found at: Many Rivers Books and Tea Website: www.manyriversbooks.com, Western Baul Podcast Website: westernbaul.org.

The Fourth Way is a Western spiritual tradition founded by George Gurdjieff, a mystic of Greek and Armenian origin who taught in Russia, Europe, and America and died in 1949. The system he developed out of his own spiritual search which is shrouded in mystery was completely unique and geared toward working with a modern mindset of “waking sleep” in the West. The Gurdjieff Foundation purports to be the holder of his legacy which in some ways may be true and in others not. It has often been considered to be humorless and dogmatically committed to a rigid system of practices and ideas which, when this has been the case, ignores Gurdjieff's own flexibility ranging from playfulness to seriousness. Approaching the spiritual path as a smorgasbord of different traditions does not support the deepening of transformational opportunity. There is value in both going deeply into one tradition and in being open to exploring and integrating teachings of other traditions, including indigenous paths, from one's foundation in a tradition. Life provides opportunities for us to grow in unexpected ways. To learn from indigenous traditions that we are not culturally attuned to, we must be passive and let go of our ideas and judgments about the spiritual process. The power of ritual and of western hermetic and indigenous teachings, including West African and native Californian, are considered in this talk. The speakers discuss how these traditions have enriched and expanded upon the indispensable foundation they have in Fourth Way work. Rob and Stuart are the spiritual directors of the Tayu Meditation Center. They are students of Robert Daniel Ennis, who died in 1998, and owners of Many Rivers Books and Tea in Sebastopol, CA. They have hosted 400 episodes of The Mystical Positivist, a radio show which broadcasts conversations with practitioners of different traditions.

Today we're answering some of your fantastic questions, and it is making for a great show. Could you give us more background on the history of the Enneagram? We give credit to a 20th-century pioneer of the Traditional Enneagram, Oscar Ichazo. We also briefly touch on the influences and how it reached the west. Interesting sidenote: According to Gurdjieff's student JG Bennett, the Enneagram was developed in the 15th century by mathematicians in the Sarmoun mystery school to express principles symbolized by the newly discovered decimal point. The Enneagram as a symbol represents aspects of mathematical laws — law of three, law of seven, law of one. Could you tell us a little more about what the sub-types are about? Among other things, we discuss the three basic instincts, why they tend to be overlooked in North American teaching of the Enneagram, and how the combination of your type and instinct comprise what we call the sub-type. What is the value or point of the Enneagram besides recognizing your type? We love this question because it's something we all consciously or unconsciously wonder about as we begin to learn more about ourselves in really any format, any personality typology. In fact, the more we learned about the Enneagram from its many teachers, and the more we understood about ourselves and others as we are in personality, the more we realized that learning our type was just the beginning. It alone is not the point. We are machines, and we live our lives on autopilot. Whether it's our habits and patterns, our negative emotion traps, our inability to see ourselves clearly, identification, we live our lives unconsciously. We are asleep to ourselves. Also, it: Moves you out of your machinery, wakes you up (use only if you're into self-development work) can actually be detrimental to identify type and leave it there, double down on your patterns, shame Helps you grow efficiently and shows you your personalized path for growing Identifies blind spots that you can't see Time Stamps: 3:25--Who Oscar Ichazo is 5:40--George Gurdjieff gets a lot of credit for bringing the Enneagram to the West, and why 9:39--To see where the Enneagram is now and give Claudio Narajano credit for his contributions 14:23--The sub-type piece of the conversation is often left out in the U.S. 20:19--Why did Chad believe certain sub-types were associated with being introverted or extroverted 28:28--Shelley really wants people to start understanding their sub-types as a piece of their self-understanding 32:14--We are asleep to ourselves 36:50--Why could it be dangerous to only use the Enneagram as a typing system and stop there 38:03--What Gurdjieff said you will get from becoming one of his students 40:17--The Enneagram reveals things you didn't even know were self-sabotaging you Ready to unlock your potential? Podcast: This week on the show, we present a pre-recorded conversation with Robin Bloor about his latest book, Gurdjieff's Hydrogens – Volume 1: The Ray of Creation. About the book, he writes, “Gurdjieff clearly wanted his pupils to try to understand Objective Science. He left two accounts of it. One adorns the pages of In Search of the Miraculous; the other merges itself into the text of Beelzebub's Tales to His Grandson. He described its study as a necessity - one of five obligolnian strivings. And yet, most books about The Work steer clear of the topic. This book moves in the opposite direction.” Robin was born in 1951 in Liverpool, UK. In 1988, after drifting through several work groups, Bloor met and became a pupil of Rina Hands. Rina was a one-time associate of J. G. Bennett, a student of Peter Ouspensky's, and later, a pupil of George Gurdjieff. Following Gurdjieff's death, she remained part of J. G. Bennett's group for a while. Subsequently, she formed groups both in London, where she lived, and in Bradford in the North of England-initially in conjunction with Madame Nott. She was an accomplished movements teacher and an inspirational group leader. She died in 1994 and is buried next to Jane Heap in a cemetery in North London. Robin leads a group, The Austin Gurdjieff Society, in Austin, Texas. Robin is the author of To Fathom The Gist Volumes I – III which demonstrate methods of reading and comprehending the contents of G. I. Gurdjieff's master work, ALL and Everything: "An Objectively Impartial Criticism of the Life of Man" or, BEELZEBUB's TALES TO HIS GRANDSON. I talk to Jonathan Brookins. Jonathan is a veteran of the WEC where he faced Jose Aldo and the UFC where he was the winner of The Ultimate Fighter Season 12 where Georges St Pierre coached him along with assistant coaches Firas Zahabi and John Danaher. Jonathan stood out in the show as being a unique & thoughtful personality, very humble and kind, and his life outside of fighting is equally compelling. We discuss his early days fighting in Florida, his time in the Ultimate Fighter house and his decision to take a break from the UFC to travel to India to attend a silent meditation retreat. While there he helped a group of local children go to school and unfortunately had a scare as a snake bit him. We also discuss his battles with addiction and his fascination with the mystic, and philosopher George Gurdjieff and the valuable lessons that he takes from martial arts practice and applies to life. Listen to the interview by searching for "The Sonny Brown Breakdown" on your favourite podcast player or follow the link in bio. Jonathan also has a podcast called "The Work" and can be followed on Instagram @jonathanxbrookins.
