Welcome to The Peds NP Acute Care Faculty series! This series was created and peer-edited by national leaders in acute care PNP education collaborating with one another to meet the needs of our future colleagues. In the push for competency-based education where faculty verify the skills of what a student can do, rather than their knowledge, our series focuses on the application of didactic content with a practical approach so that you can learn nuances of clinical skills before you reach the bedside.    *This is the second episode in a 2 part series on enteral feeding. Listen to Episode 75: Malnutrition and Feeding Tube Selection first.   This episode walks through the decision-making for which enteral formula to select based on the patient's age, protein needs, and GI function. A list of commercially available examples is listed for each age group and protein type. Fluid and caloric goals are discussed to determine if concentrated formulas are appropriate. Lastly, the process of starting continuous feeds and advancing to bolus feeds while assessing for tolerance is reviewed. Build functional skills by following along with a case study that is continued from the prior episode. It's proof that there's more than just formula that goes into tube feedings.   Authors: Becky Carson, DNP, APRN, CPNP-PC/AC, Jessica D. Welcome back to The Peds NP Acute Care Faculty series! This series was created and peer-reviewed by national leaders in acute care PNP education collaborating with one another to meet the needs of our current and future colleagues. In the push for competency-based education where faculty verify the skills of what a student can do, rather than their knowledge, our series focuses on the application of didactic content with a practical approach so that you can learn nuances of clinical skills before you reach the bedside.    This episode begins with a brief review of malnutrition and pediatric nutritional assessment in acute care settings. Next we begin a choose-your-own-nutrition adventure by asking a series of questions that aid in medical decision-making for which nutrition route is appropriate, and, if enteral feeding is best, then determines the type of tube indicated. A case-based discussion with examples helps you to apply the concepts to a complex scenario. Our next episode will focus on formula selection, the initiation of feeds, and assessment of tolerance.   Authors: Becky Carson, DNP, APRN, CPNP-PC/AC, Jessica D. Matthew elaborates on how Concierge Health's platform--Connections--integrates AI coaching, nutrition, and employee well-being, offering an engaging experience for individuals and providing tools for partners. The conversation also delves into the practical aspects of managing employer programs and engaging senior individuals in fitness programs. As a strategist navigating both the insurance and corporate terrains, Matt is attuned to the complexities within the Medicare market . . . and well aware of its lucrative potential through usage-based programs entwined with demanding operational protocols that often deter participation by clubs. He acknowledges the challenges faced in reporting and verification processes that force many to opt-out or selectively engage. When it comes to new innovations for insurance client engagement, Schober states, "The part of Connections that we've really evolved it into from our experiences working with insurance companies was not only to create an engaging experience for the individual, but also to maximize partner exposure, and give partners tools in order to be able to utilize this effectively." Jakob and Tobias Schober have been called the youngest portfolio managers in Europe; they are two out of five brothers. They grew up around business and investing and started earlier than most. I had the pleasure of spending some quality time with them in Zurich last summer. They shared with me stories that I knew belonged on Talking Billions, including a transition from running a family business to managing a portfolio of investments and beyond. It was one of those conversations that truly stayed with me, and I feel very blessed and fortunate to be able to continue our discussion here today. Their TIP (The Investor Partners) is an Austria-based value investment firm, inspired by the Buffett's partnership. In their beginnings, the Schober brothers have been awarded several prizes in stock-picking contests. As someone who loves complex questions being broken down into sound equations, Tobias is a great fan of Bruce Greenwald‘s theoretical work. As such, he specialized in stock buybacks and issuance, since their simplicity tends to confuse the investing crowd. As a former race driver, it is easy for Jakob to stay calm in turbulent times. Today, we talk about the very early fascination with investing, family dinners with stock discussions, and a story of a family business that preceded it all. They share how they discovered the power of compounding and decided to start before they became teenagers. We touch on the topic of age and what it's like to venture into the investment world at such a young age. They might be young, but they have a few crises under their belt, including getting started before the 2008/2009 financial crisis. My guests tell me what kind of businesses they look for. Stay tuned until the end when Jakob and Tobias share some fascinating research around buyback policies, when companies return capital to shareholders. When we recorded, I found Jakob and Tobias in Germany at a stock investing competition where their brother was accepting and award, we talk about it as well. https://www.tip-invest.com/ NEVER INVESTMENT ADVICE. Episode #182: “If you're a millionaire, or a billionaire, you want the best,” says Timo Schober, a German-based journalist who works at Papertrail Media, “and the best is natural grown teak [from Myanmar]...And that's what is driving the demand.”Schober joins the conversation along with Shirsho Dasgupta, an investigative reporter for the Miami Herald. They talk about the decimation of Burma's once vast forest lands which started during colonial times, and today is just 40% of what it once was. After the military coup in 2021, the US imposed sanctions on Myanmar Timber Enterprises (MTE), a military-linked corporation controlling the teak trade. Following a leak from Myanmar's tax department, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) collaborated with 39 media outlets to investigate teak exports and potential sanctions evasion, and their work is the subject of this episode. The international demand for high-quality teak remains strong, particularly among the ultra-rich. At least $400 million worth of teak has been exported since the coup, mainly to European and American markets.Traders argue that they don't buy directly from MTE but through private companies, and therefore their teak trade is legal. This creates complexities for customs officers in enforcing sanctions. Additionally, others believe their actions are legal as they bought teak before the sanctions, though officials state that the date of purchase does not exempt them.At the end of the day, Dasgupta reminds listeners that it comes back to finding a way to speak directly to the consumer about this murky business, as a way to discourage any involvement in teak. “A lot of luxury products that we covered, they do lead to conflict and the destruction of the environment, and we should keep in mind that even if we're not buying teak, we might be complicit in in other ways when we buy

One may think this is not a massive deal at the time, but as the information you leave behind becomes more extensive, this leads more of a target on your back to getting hacked or worse. You can control what you see on the internet and your phone, for example, "Say you look up or go buy a pregnancy test at the store; in the following weeks, you will see various ads and promos on your phone about subjects related to pregnancy tests, babies, etc." (Gorog.) Only I could read someone's debut novel and not know it until she starts describing it, so listen in to find out what book Carmen Schober wrote that I didn't know I read. But on top of that, she talks about her upcoming release, Pretty Little Pieces, and the fun characters in there, as well as the great deals you can get on both of these books right now!   Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. Don't Home Renovations and Snipers Sound Like an Explosive Romance? Okay, an author who loves to write women's fiction BUT romance as well, and with a strong faith arc for multiple characters? Does Carmen Schober sound like the perfect author for me or what?  Carmen's debut novel, After She Falls, (I totally misunderstood her before we got started), deals with one of her personal passions--fights! (The organized and legal kind, not the cat fights outside bars on a Saturday night!). It also deals with domestic violence, single parenting, and facing your past.  And boy does Audrey have a past to face. Then she goes off and writes her upcoming release, Pretty Little Pieces, and whoa! Could it be more opposite? Down we go from Pennsylvania to the Nashville area and dig into all things Southern. Small towns, country roads, food. Oh, and flipping houses?  Top that off with a house flipper falling for an ex-sniper, and... WHAT?  Yep. It's a thing, folks!  And I'm dying to read it. We chatted about faith in fiction, romance in fiction, what readers expect and don't... it was a blast, and I can't wait for her next book. I mean... Cuban mafia? Bring it on! (She's delightfully eclectic. I love it!) Pretty Little Pieces by Carmen Schober Ambitious influencer Georgina Havoc and her designer beau Lance Broussard have been dubbed the next Chip and Joanna Gaines, but their happily-ever-after falls apart when Lance blindsides her with a "pause."
