Camille Peugny est sociologue et auteur du livre Le triomphe des égoïsmes. Il y a des chercheurs qui vous donnent des concepts nouveaux pour regarder ce que vous voyez déjà tous les jours, et Camille est clairement de ceux-là.Dans cet épisode, nous parlons de la différence entre individualisme et égoïsme, et pourquoi cette distinction change tout. L'individualisme, ça fait un siècle que les sciences sociales le documentent. L'égoïsme, c'est autre chose : c'est la croyance que les individus sont seuls responsables de leur parcours, de leur succès comme de leur échec. Et quand cette croyance se diffuse à grande échelle parmi les classes moyennes supérieures, elle devient une contrainte sociale qui nuit à la cohésion de tout le pays.J'ai questionné Camille sur comment on en est arrivé là, sur le rôle du capitalisme de plateforme dans la marchandisation du lien social, sur la conscience sociale triangulaire qui pousse les classes populaires à voter contre leurs propres intérêts, sur les femmes de ménage contraintes de devenir les auto-entrepreneuses de leur propre précarité, et sur la bombe à retardement des héritages qui va creuser un fossé béant entre ceux qui maîtrisent l'avenir et les autres.Ce qui m'a frappé dans cet épisode, c'est que Camille ne fait pas de la sociologie pour accabler les gens. Ce qui a changé, c'est le système qui pousse structurellement vers l'un des deux. Pourquoi ça compte : ça déplace la responsabilité de l'individu vers le système, ce qui change radicalement la façon dont on peut agir. L'État-providence a joué le même rôle paradoxal : en nous protégeant, il nous a permis de nous émanciper des solidarités traditionnelles. Aujourd'hui, ils sont de plus en plus issus de classes moyennes supérieures et ont intégré le logiciel néolibéral : mérite individuel, responsabilité personnelle, concurrence. 60 % des cadres expliquent désormais les inégalités par le mérite individuel, contre une majorité qui les attribuait aux hasards de la naissance il y a quinze ans. Pourquoi ça compte : ce glissement idéologique a des conséquences électorales directes et durables. Vijf biografieën over prominente journalistieke figuren uit de twintigste eeuw – Jan Blokker, Theo van Gogh, Hugo Brandt Corstius, Ischa Meijer en Michaël Zeeman – zijn in de afgelopen twee jaar verschenen. Marja Pruis, hoofd van de cultuurredactie van De Groene, zag bij deze mannen een aantal opvallende overeenkomsten: allemaal hadden ze een groot ego, een grote mond en geen angst om hard of onaardig te zijn, zeker niet over vrouwen. Toen Pruis zelf als jonge student de journalistiek-literaire wereld wilde betreden, waren hun stemmen dominant. Ze keek tegen hen op. Later in haar studententijd werd ze activistischer en feministischer. Ze ketende zich vast aan hekken bij kerncentrales en las met een leesgroep De tweede sekse van Simone de Beauvoir. Langzaam kwam ze erachter dat ze een deel van de misogynie van deze mannen zelf had geïnternaliseerd – iets waarvan ze gelooft dat ze er nog steeds niet volledig van bevrijd is. In deze aflevering hoor je alles over Nederland en 25 andere landen van de zogeheten Coalition of the Willing, die gisteren hun ‘politiek commitment’ hebben uitgesproken voor militaire veiligheidsgaranties. Deze willen zij instellen na een bestand in de oorlog in Oekraine. NIST Fellow William D. Phillips received the 1997 Nobel Prize in Physics “for development of methods to cool and trap atoms with laser light.” He shared the honor with Steven Chu and Claude Cohen-Tannoudji. Their work combined to create some of the most important technologies of modern atomic physics, which thousands of researchers worldwide employ today for a wide variety of applications. Today, he joins us to discuss time keeping throughout history and breakthroughs on the way to the best clocks ever made! Phillips began his experiments with laser trapping and cooling shortly after he arrived in 1978 at the National Bureau of Standards (the agency that became NIST), with the intent of creating a more accurate atomic clock. Several of his innovations in the following years became landmarks in the field. These included a device using a laser along with a magnetic field to decelerate and cool an atomic beam (the “Zeeman slower”); demonstrating the first device that trapped electrically neutral atoms (a magnetic trap); and measuring a temperature far below that predicted by the accepted theory of laser cooling at the time (known as sub-Doppler cooling).
