Ireland's first certified Nest Protection Officer Training Programme was recently launched by Ministers Martin Heydon and Christopher O'Sullivan. It was developed by Owen Murphy and Donal Beagan of the publicly funded Breeding Waders EIP, with the training body Lantra, and supported by the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Department of Agriculture. In this episode of Oncology Unplugged, host Chandler Park, MD, a medical oncologist at Norton Cancer Institute in Louisville, Kentucky, was joined by Pashtoon Kasi, MD, MS, the medical director of GI Medical Oncology, the Rad Family Chair in Gastrointestinal Oncology, and an associate clinical professor in the Department of Medical Oncology & Therapeutics Research at City of Hope Orange County in Irvine, California.Their discussion centered on the rapid rise of neoadjuvant immunotherapy in colorectal cancer (CRC) management, framing the shift in which immunotherapy is given upfront and surgery becomes the adjuvant step as a genuine paradigm change. Drs Park and Kasi grounded the conversation in the biology of mismatch repair–deficient (dMMR)/microsatellite instability–high tumors, which harbor a high neoantigen load, rendering them sensitive to checkpoint blockade.A major focus was the treatment evolution that stemmed from data from the phase 3 ATOMIC trial (NCT02912559), which added atezolizumab (Tecentriq) to FOLFOX (leucovorin, fluorouracil, oxaliplatin) in stage III dMMR disease, to the NICHE clinical trial series from the Netherlands, in which brief neoadjuvant nivolumab (Opdivo) plus 1 dose of ipilimumab (Yervoy) produced near-universal responses. Dr Kasi then detailed his own NEST trials, which replicated this short-course design using the Fc-enhanced CTLA-4 inhibitor botensilimab plus balstilimab, notably extending activity into the larger mismatch repair–proficient/microsatellite stable (MSS) population with sustained disease-free survival.Drs Park and Kasi explored mechanistic insights that have been seen with CRC drugs, including an "inside-out" serosal-to-mucosal response pattern, regulatory T cell depletion, and the rationale that an intact tumor and lymph nodes provide more antigens than the postsurgical setting. They also discussed circulating tumor DNA as an emerging surrogate end point, the implications of data from the phase 3 STELLAR-303 trial (NCT05425940) of an immunomodulatory TKI plus atezolizumab (Tecentriq) in patients with MSS disease, liver metastases as an immunosuppressive niche, and the alarming rise of early-onset CRC.

Welcome to The Turf Zone podcast. This episode features an update on research projects funded by the New England Regional Turfgrass Foundation, written by Executive Director Gary Sykes. When the Foundation was created, it was the goal to fund substantial turfgrass research at our local universities. We had expected research proposals from UMass, URI and UNH since they had some ongoing activity already within their programs along with highly skilled personnel. The idea was that local research would be the most valuable to our local industry and that would be our focus. We were unaware that things were changing. In New Hampshire the program diminished due to some retirements, but in Connecticut their administrators were convinced that by dedicating funds and support to their Turfgrass Program would be beneficial to the school and the industry. It was a good hunch! New hires to grow the program immediately made a positive impact including the expansion of the turfgrass research facility. Since 1998, the Foundation has had its hand in distributing $3.4 M in research proposal funding to the universities, mostly UConn, UMass and URI. What is the Foundation up to today? Currently, the foundation has agreed to fund $180,195.77 for 2026 divided between 8 separate research projects. Changing the locks is no longer the same thing as changing the access. In this episode, Karen McMahon sits down with Jonathan Steele, a Chicago based family law attorney and certified cybersecurity professional, for a conversation Journey Beyond Divorce has never had in over 425 episodes. Jonathan has spent more than a decade litigating high conflict, high net worth cases, and he brings a layer of technical expertise that most family lawyers simply do not have. Karen opens with the uncomfortable truth that almost nobody going through divorce thinks of themselves as a cybersecurity target. Jonathan walks listeners through what a spouse may still be able to see long after someone has moved out: the Ring camera, the Nest footage, the Gmail account still signed in on an old iPad, the shared iCloud photo album, the luxury car app that logs where the car has been and how fast it was going, the location sharing nobody remembers turning on. He explains why the smart devices that were supposed to make life easier, the robot vacuum, the smart refrigerator, the video doorbell, are often running years old software while sitting on the same Wi-Fi network as every device that holds something sensitive. The front door may have an excellent lock on it. The window screen is full of holes. When Karen asks when in the process people should start addressing this, his answer is immediate. Before you file. Before discovery. Before trial. As soon as you possibly can. Then the conversation gets closer to home. Jonathan describes how children become tracker beacons without anyone intending it, how a single mutual friend inside a list of eight hundred followers can hand a spouse the photograph that ends spousal support, and how one of his own cases terminated a maintenance obligation of more than a million dollars a year because a woman's adult children were quietly feeding her social media posts to their father. She was simply living her life and posting about it, the way everyone does. He also answers a question a growing number of listeners are asking. Conversations with AI about a divorce are discoverable, and lawyers have already started requesting the logs. Karen asks him to triage the overwhelm into a short list, and he does. Move sensitive communication to a more secure messenger. Open a brand new email address. Run the Safety Check tool already built into the iPhone, which was designed for exactly this situation and walks you through revoking access in plain language. Prune the follower lists, including the connections that feel harmless. Cut off camera and car app access. Pause the next time an app requests a permission it has no legitimate reason to want. And for every listener who has been told by friends that she is paranoid and ridiculous, Jonathan offers the line worth the entire episode. It is only paranoia if you are not right about it. One small step a day still counts. This is a marathon, and every setting you turn off is protection you did not have yesterday. In 1846, William Freeman walked into a farmhouse outside Auburn, New York, and brutally murdered four members of the Van Nest family, people he seemingly had no reason to kill. But as Freeman faced the death penalty, his attorney, former New York Governor William H. Seward, argued that the young man's years of brutal treatment inside Auburn State Prison had left him profoundly mentally impaired. Consecrated birds are exempt from the mitzvah of sending away the mother bird -- what is the case? Well, what if a person consecrated the baby birds in the nest? Returning them to the nest if the mother bird returns to them, then there's no requirement to send her away anyway! Maybe he's consecrating the mother bird. Plus, what happens if a consecrated bird escapes to the wild?! Note that the Gemara narrows the mishnah's halakhah to a very specific case, in contrast to the original phrasing. Also, the case of finding a nest in the head of a person. And the ostensible sources, or allusions, anyway, in the Torah, for Moshe, Haman, Esther, and Mordechai. [Where's Where? Papuniya]
