The second hour opens with the 2011 intervention in Libya and the doctrine of the responsibility to protect, which Shapiro argues was cynically deployed to topple Muammar Gaddafi, leaving behind a failed state and further discrediting the international norms it was meant to uphold. From there, they trace the cascading fallout across the Middle East and Europe—through Syria and Ukraine—to the present moment, before turning to the central political question of the age: whether mainstream parties can deliver an industrial policy and a model of inclusive growth capable of addressing the economic grievances and insecurities driving the populist revolt across the democratic world. President Donald Trump signed two executive orders Monday to accelerate the federal government's transition to post-quantum encryption and reprioritize government financing to support the domestic quantum computing industry. The orders, which CyberScoop first reported on last year, direct the government to throw its weight behind the quantum computing industry. They are part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to put its stamp on the development of another key emerging technology. Ahead of the signing, sources previewed details of those orders to CyberScoop. Per one of those sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss pending administration actions, a “whole of government approach is used to empower research and development into quantum computing, as well as quantum sensing [and other resources].” They described the Trump administration's attitude for propping up industry as “don't let us miss out on prioritizing the feeders for the research or the development of quantum.” The second order requires federal civilian networks to adopt quantum-resistant encryption faster than the current 2035 deadline. The new encryption algorithms, vetted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, will protect against future quantum computer attacks. Agencies that miss the new deadline must report to the Office of Management and Budget explaining why. Four proposed rules to begin formally overhauling 20 sections of the Federal Acquisition Regulation were published in the Federal Register on Tuesday. While the Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council has been rewriting and deviating from the FAR for over a year now as part of what it's calling “the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul”, the unpublished proposed rules are a step toward codification of these changes. Over a combined total of more than 1,000 pages of proposed rules, the overhaul would establish regular regulatory reviews and sunsets, as well as move the bid protest system to the agencies involved in disputes instead of the Government Accountability Office. The FAR update comes in response to an April 2025 executive order mandating the procurement policy be pared down to the essentials and presented in plain language, void of any “undue barriers” and “unnecessary regulations.” The FAR has not been significantly updated in 40 years. Are you getting the most out of your RSS feed?To figure out if you are, you first have to understand how a podcast workflow works, which means you need to understand:what an RSS feed ishow you make onewhere you get the best feedand how you make sure you're getting the most out of itDon't Make These MistakesIn this episode, I'm going to explain some of the mistakes I see people making with RSS feeds, especially when it comes to getting the most out of transcripts. In some cases, people aren't putting their transcripts into their media host, which means their transcripts aren't going into their feed. That is not something the best way to maximize your show.Where Do I Get an RSS Feed?Your RSS feed comes from your media host. For me, the best RSS feeds come from dedicated media hosts. Places like Captivate, Buzzsprout, rss.com, and Blubrry. All of these do one thing: they host your files, they provide an RSS feed, and they provide statistics.Make Sure Your Transcripts are In Your RSS FeedWhile having transcripts on your website is good, you are missing another opportunity by having them in your feed (which can be used in Podcast apps). When it comes to Podpage, having the transcript in your feed put it into a place where Podpage can grab it and put it on your site.Don't Hire Your Dentist to Work On Your CarOther places like Riverside are trying to be a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. I don't want someone who's not a master of the RSS feed. The RSS feed is like the blood in your veins; it is your veins, and you don't want your veins to be Scotch-taped together. You want an RSS feed that is fully compatible with all the features available for podcasters.Directing People To Your SiteWhen I recently tested Riverisde, you could not direct people at the episode level to your site. This is a missed opportunity.This means that, when somebody is consuming your content in an app, usually there is a link to go to the website, which takes them to, (if you're doing it correctly) your website. On the episode page, I'm offering the ability to follow the show easily on Spotify, Apple, Pocket Cast, etc. If you don't have that link, you're missing an opportunity to send the audience where you want them to go. I need to email Riverside because this just reeks of a company who doesn't really understand podcasting getting into podcasting. Consequently, I know it's nice to have everything under one login, but how hard is it to login to more than one account (especially if you have 1password).No RSS No PodcastPeople keep asking what a podcast is. I'm not sure why. It's audio, video delivered via RSS. This means YouTube is not a podcast. It's a show. Radio is not TV. Both are content. When we blur the definition it messes up all of our reports. People have asked, "Well, the audience thinks YouTube is a podcast are we supposed to tell them they are wrong?" The answer is yes.Then we could have separate reports on YouTube vs Podcasts.If someone hears me listening to the band Sum 41, and says, "I love blink 182," I would say, "That's not Sum 41, it's blink 182. You're helping them not look stupid in the future. You would do the same thing if they called a banana an apple.Other Hosts I Don't RecommendSpotify: From their lying to their original partners, to making features that only work inside of Spotify (ignoring the open podcast system), and often eliminating features shrtly after they launch (never worldwide). I could go on for hours. Yes, it's free but so is RSS, Buzzsprout, and Red Circle.Soundcloud: Soundcloud, to the best of my knowledge hasn't implement features that were introduced in 2017. You can buy soundcloud plays (Google it) so consquentially you will never have sponsors while you use Soundcloud.Mailbag: AMP 30 Second RuleThanks to Mark for pushing back on my math. In the end (as of this date) AMP can't decide what their definition is (As they've already changed it). Also one of their "hidden" companies was YouTube. My mother used to tell me, "Never underestimate the power of 'I'll show them.'" So many personalities who have succeeded in life have, have at one point or another, been considered losers—and they thought, "I'll show them," and they put their full attention into improving themselves in one area or another. Michael Jordan, for instance, was cut from his high school basketball team. So, the third way in which—and I am just talking about having a strong decision at the beginning of your activity—you can solidify it is to give up what we call "mistaken unchangeability." Another way of saying it is: 'assume it can be done.' Because oftentimes, people feel, "Other people can do something, but I can't." One has to give that up. In other words, you have to banish that feeling from your mind or heart—that other people can be successful but I can't. As it is mentioned in the Vedānta-sūtra by Śrīla Vyāsadeva, the Śāstras tell us that we should improve ourselves and we should reach the highest perfection of life. He says, therefore, we should assume that we can do it, because the Śāstras are speaking to all of us, and it would be illogical to think we cannot do it if the Śāstras say we can. Sometimes people might think, for instance, that it is not possible for me to become a pure devotee; "It's not possible for me to chant 16 rounds; it's not possible for me to read the Bhāgavatam all the way through." There may be many worthy services to do, but we think, "I can't do that." That, you have to put aside. "I can't write a book." What else might you think you cannot do? The Department of Veterans Affairs hosted an IT industry day last week with a specific takeaway from the agency's deputy CIO: incumbency itself is not enough. Zack Schwartz, principal deputy assistant secretary in the VA's Office of Information and Technology, said he's made it clear that tech contractors need to bring their “A-game when it comes to supporting the veteran,” and the VA is open for business with whoever can do it best. “Incumbency is not a guarantee, incumbency is not an advantage,” Schwartz said in an interview with FedScoop. “We will not settle just because you've supported the VA in the past.” Schwartz said last Wednesday's private IT Advanced Planning Brief to Industry was a breakthrough between the agency and industry, as he made it clear that the “massive organization” is “moving extremely fast” to modernize and integrate AI with governance. LOGZONE, an Alabama-based logistics services provider, has agreed to pay more than $507,000 to resolve allegations that it misrepresented its compliance with Pentagon cybersecurity requirements while doing work with the Navy. According to a settlement agreement published last Thursday, the Justice Department alleged that LOGZONE failed to fully implement required security controls under NIST Special Publication 800-171 despite its contract mandating compliance. While not an explicit violation of the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program, the suit highlights the Defense Department's increasing scrutiny of the defense industry not implementing required cybersecurity measures for sensitive information. The settlement stems from two contracts awarded by the Navy between 2021 and 2022 for logistics, inventory management and facility support services for the Naval Oceanographic Command located at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.
