On this episode, Chris is joined by Karen Bailey - Chapman, Senior Vice President - Public and Government Affairs at SEMA. They chat about SEMA's advocacy initiatives and how electric vehicle mandates, tariffs and limiting access to public land impact the enthusiast vehicle community. Government policy inadvertently promotes stagnating innovation, increasing costs and limiting use of public lands. SEMA's advocacy initiatives are lobbying government decision makers to normalize and reverse the negative impact government policy has on the enthusiast vehicle community and aftermarket suppliers. It all began in 1963 when a group of small manufacturers who were suppliers of performance equipment for early hot rods organized their fledgling industry and called it "Speed Equipment Manufacturers Association" (SEMA).The mission was practical and straightforward: develop uniform standards for certain products used in motorsports competition; promote the industry as a supplier to consumers involved in constructive activities of recreational and hobbyist value; develop programs to encourage improved business practices among member companies; and hold regular meetings to achieve unity as a business organization. In those days, all of the members were founders of companies that produced speed equipment exclusively (hence, the organization's title). At the outset, the pioneering companies operated free of the constraints that come from governmental regulations and their attending restrictions. They were as aggressive and progressive as their imaginations would allow, and the mostly small businesses flourished. Today, many of the original companies are very large, successful corporations, and some, such as Edelbrock, Ansen, B&M and Offenhauser, are known internationally for their product lines. Today, more than 40 years later, the small group of entrepreneurial operations has been joined by thousands of companies, designers, producers and suppliers of specialty products that span the gamut. From performance products for street and race applications to appearance accessories for late-model automobiles and light-duty trucks, SEMA-member companies contribute to the vitality and strength of a $29.9-billion-a-year retail industry.SEMA eventually became the Specialty Equipment Market Association, embracing within its ranks all businesses in the distribution chain: manufacturers, warehouse distributors, jobbers, independent retailers, volume retailers, specialty stores (speed shops), sales agents, subcontractors and publishing companies. The membership categories even include racing teams, car clubs and special service organizations. The SEMA membership roster has steadily grown and continues its upward climb. Today there are more than 6,382 corporate members. Products supplied by the industry are in demand not only in the United States, but also throughout the world.Follow, Like and subscribe to the podcast on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and your podcast listing platform.

Ruben sits down with mechanic and restoration specialist Constance Nunes of Netflix's “Rust to Riches.” With her fascination for taking things apart and reassembling them, she applied this passion to what she was around her whole life, cars. Her goal was to create cars that were accessible to those who were unable to get the car they dreamed of. “I'm trying to build dreams for other people and that way they can experience everything that I've experienced with Baby Stang.” - Constance Nunes Constance talks about what it is like to work in a male dominated field of building cars and how we can apply cars to life. She felt the pressure of being one of the only women in her field doing what she wanted to do, but then she realized that she could do whatever she wanted whether there was representation of it already or not. “I think what changed for me with that was just realizing there's not really a reason that I can't be just as good as the guys are at it. Like there's nothing that's stopping me from turning a wrench the same way. And once that started clicking in my mind of like, it's not different.” - Constance Nunes Constance feels like more people are realizing we don't have to conform to norms, but she still experiences some challenges with people not thinking she “looks” like a mechanic. Regardless, she continues to show up in male dominated spaces and does not let the pressure to define her overrule her strengths and abilities. Constant encourages people to realize that achieving their goals requires work and our goals taking time is not an indication of failure. This pressure young people feel today to appear perfect and successful overnight is incredibly discouraging to them, says Constance. “Just do it. Just do it for yourself. If no one sees it, nobody sees it. That's fine. Did you do what you wanted to do and it made you happy? It made the people around you happy. Great. So that matters.” - Constance Nunes Constance feels it's important we all realize there are many ways to get to the same destination, and sometimes what you wanted might not be what you expected, and that's okay. Jamie Edelbrock, mom of three tween and teenage daughters, children's author, mental health advocate and fellow deconstructing mama kicks off Season Three with us. Jamie was born and raised in Salem, Oregon. She's married to her high school sweetheart and has been all of the following at some point: homeschool mom, preschool director, family ministry director, author, and advocate for children's mental health.FUN FACT: She is also an ex-pat and travel and live around the world in a far-off land (you can hear more about that on the podcast). On this episode, Jamie tackles some really tough issues of deconstructing while raising her girls, especially why she would not want them ever to believe in a God that sounds more like a narcissist than anything else (the one she was raised with). Lots of red flags that we chat through and come out the other side. It's a conversation that is filled with the shaking of heads, lots of laughs and much-needed hope for why deconstructing toxic theology is life-changing for us and for our kids in all the best ways. You can find Jamie at the following:Instagram: @tangledupbookWebsite: jamieedelbrock.com

A few weeks ago, we did a podcast highlighting an upcoming Camaro build that we here at Hemmings were going to undertake. It was for a worn out 1987 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z that we had purchased that was simply tired. It had an old rod-knocking 350 small-black, a worn-out suspension system, and although the transmission was good, it was an automatic which simply didn't flow with our idea of what a performance car should be. So, with the help of some great partners (Edelbrock, American Powertrain, Summit Racing, U.S. Radiator and more) we tore into it and rebuilt the sucker in the span of two weeks at our very own Sibley Garage up in Bennington, VT. We also filmed a killer YouTube series that's currently being edited together for your enjoyment, but that's going to take a minute. However, while you're waiting, we felt that y'all should be privy to what it takes to build a car in two weeks, as opposed to what the media will have you believe. On this week's Hemmings Hot Rod BBQ, we sit down with Producer Ryan Douthit, and Hemmings own Terry McGean to lend a little insight into the ups and downs of updating an older car in such a short period of time.
Growing up just outside of Happy Valley Pennsylvania, our guest today is Bruce Gamble, retired naval flight officer, military historian and long time Classic Mustang enthusiast. His ‘67 red convertible 289 he purchased in rough shape back in 1994. Fully restored in 2004, we will let him share the full story of the rebuild including how it was nearly lost completely. Excited to chat today. Welcome Bruce to Ford Mustang The Early Years podcast.Do you own an early year Mustang?: Yes, almost 28 yearsPlease upload a favorite pic of your Mustang or a classic car you drive now or have owned in the past.: https://cdn.filestackcontent.com/E15tpQMVQeinIhccfCKQ?Eden Gardens 1.jpg?image/jpegWhat do you do for a living?: Retired naval flight officer (1989), military historian and author. If you own a Mustang or classic car, have you named your car?Sweet Chariot. Named for my dad's B-29 Superfortress of the 315th Bomb Wing on Guam. A photo of the nose art is mounted in the front license plate bracket. If you've made improvements to your classic car or restored it, what work have you done?: Convertible was built in California with a 289 C-code and C4 transmission. Factory options include power top, air-conditioning, power steering, power brakes with front discs, and exterior decor group. Purchased (in very rough condition) in 1994, restored and driven, then fully restored again in 2004 after a tree crushed the back end during Hurricane Ivan. Mods include AOD transmission swap, dual exhaust with Hi-Po exhaust manifolds, Edelbrock 4bbl intake and 600cfm carb, finned valve covers, aluminum radiator, Dakota Digital instruments (and cruise control), reclining Fox-body front bucket seats, billet aluminum grille, bluetooth stereo with four speakers and subwoofer. What plans do you have for improvements/restoration/modification of your classic car?: I put a lot of miles on the car--more than 60,000 after the AOD swap. I've kept it in driving condition, but it needs a tune-up and minor cosmetic work to bring it back to what it was 10 years ago.If you are on social media, please share your social media names/handles so we can tag you when promoting your episode.: YouTube: Bruce GambleTwitter: @BruceGamble76Ford Mustang The Early Years Podcast (social media)The Facebook GroupTheMustangPodcast.com/facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/185146876036328Instagram@mustangpodcasthttps://www.instagram.com/mustangpodcast/An Expert's Guide to Maintaining Your Classic Mustangwww.TheMustangPodcast.com/repairHave an idea for a guest for the show? If you are a parent to a kiddo who is struggling with behavior issues, anxiety, or ADHD, my heart goes out to all of you. Please know that you are not alone. To help me in this conversation on the podcast, I brought in a mom who has been right where you are, Jamie Edelbrock. She is married to her high school sweetheart and together they have three daughters. She has worn many hats, some of which include a homeschool mom, preschool director, family ministry director, blogger and author of the children's book “Tangled Up.” She wrote this book after her starting therapy with her child. The Read with Carylee Show brings the love of literature to children and gives a peek behind the scenes by evoking the joy of reading, helping children interact with authors, and displaying the hidden talent of these authors who may be living in your community. This episode will read Tangled Up by Jamie Edelbrock. ✅ ABOUT THE STORY: Studies show one in six kids between the ages of two-and eight-years-old have a mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder. Navigating this world as a parent can be scary, but experiencing this as a young child can be even scarier. Author Jamie Edelbrock tackles this difficult topic in heartfelt words and pictures that unpack how it's like to be "tangled up" as complicated thoughts and emotions happen. The book shares how you must be brave and seek help from special people called therapists and counselors who help people when they are tangled up. They are professional detanglers who are willing to help and understand how important and unique you are. Tangled Up is intended to lessen the fear of the unknown and shines a positive, peaceful light on mental health and therapy. ✅ ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Jamie Edelbrock is a homeschool mom, preschool director, family ministry director, author, and advocate for children's mental health. Her award-winning children's book Tangled Up shares with kids and adults alike that it's okay not to be okay. The book started as Jamie's love letter to her daughter, telling her that she isn't alone and, like many others, should bravely seek help to get better. "Many things get tangled up in life, like our shoelaces or hair. Sometimes our necklaces or the hoses in your backyard. It's really frustrating. This story is about when feelings and emotions get tangled up, hard things happen in life, and you don't feel good inside. This talks about what to do when that happens." Jamie, a partner of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) chapter in Louisiana, aims to eliminate the stigma of seeking help. Apprenticeships are key. Shift mindset of the youth- open different pathways besides college education Don't wait until you lose a technician to hire a technician- being heavy on technicians leads to other opportunities (satellite location, more efficient). It's not a risk, it's an investment. No one complains they have too many techs. Don't be afraid to have conversations with other technicians- build trust, if it doesn't work out they will find another job within a day Fear prevents you to go into a new world of greatness- changing positions isn't comfortable but necessary to grow Emerging technology- the future is here, training for new EV vehicles, start a marketing campaign for new clientele and technicians. Educating customers that hybrids need repairs. Look into charging ports. This is your opportunity to gain lifetime clientele. Total lifetime spent- customer personal ARO. Motivation isn't the bill today but the whole driving career. This is a service industry, not a repair business. What is your mission of the business? Avsnitt 219 är här! Oj, oj, oj. Krick är bakis och Ponkan har precis blivit stoppad av polisen. Blir ett avsnitt som osar irritation och förlegad USA-patriotism. Sen är det dags för Veckans bil. Denna gång tittar Krick på Cheva Nova Spirit of America! Blir ljust och vackert innan Ponkan återigen blir mörk. Nu sågar han alla motorcykeltillverkare för sin brist på fantasi. Vi rundar av med lite snack om att både AC Delco och Edelbrock borde bygga bilar. God bless America. Häng med.

In this episode, Dr. Cam is joined by Jamie Edelbrock, author of Tangled Up. Tangled up (@TangledUpBook on Facebook and Instagram) is a children's book that can be used as a starting point on your child's mental health journey (and your own!). In this beautiful story, she weaves in the message that we all feel tangled up at times and that's okay. It's also okay to get help. If you found this podcast helpful, please LIKE and WRITE A REVIEW. Thanks! Learn more about Dr. Cam at www.AskDrCam.com. EPISODE TRANSCRIPT Dr. Cam: Hey, I'm Dr. Cam. And I'm super excited because, other than my daughter, I have my first guest on my show. Jamie Edelbrock is here. She's married to her high school sweetheart. They have three daughters, and she's worn many hats. You have been a homeschool mom. Right there. I'm blown away because I don't know how you do that. A preschool director, a family ministry director, and you rocked it. And now you are an author? Yes. That's crazy. It was almost a year ago today. We were sitting on your front porch, drinking tea. And your whole world had just blown up! So, take us there. And then, a year later, you are an actual author with a publisher going into bookstores worldwide. Jamie Edelbrock: Like what I know it's crazy. And I say Oh, it's only God. Because a year ago, we were drinking tea and crying on my front porch. DC: That's true. We were doing that. JE: In such a short amount of time. I had lost a church family, a job, my husband was deployed. I had nothing, literally nothing. That's what I felt like my whole world was flipped upside down. I knew everything was happening for a reason. But I had nothing. And at that same time, my kids were struggling, they can tell you know, the world had been our little world had been flipped upside down. And here we were, Mom and three daughters because you know, Eric was away, trying to figure it all out. And it was painful to watch my kids struggle. But also me. I use the word tangled up because that's one way I can describe it is your mind is a mess. Your hearts a mess. Like it's all just jumbled up, untangle this and knots. And I was literally sitting in a gymnastics class with one of my daughters and knowing that another one was struggling really, really, really bad. With school, with dad being away, with friendships, all of that. And I wanted to tell her like it's going to be okay, you need to see a counselor, a therapist. She didn't want to go. So, I poured my heart out in a letter to her in gymnastics class. I was just writing, writing, writing, writing, writing. And when it was finished, I could literally vision pictures. And I thought this has to be a book. I took it to a couple of friends. I went to one of my dear friend's house and said, “Hey, listen to this.” And swallowed some pride and thought, “Well, I'm probably going to fail. But I'm just going to push this out to publishers.” And sure enough, a couple of them grabbed it. And I went with Mascot books (https://mascotbooks.com/). And the rest is history. It's only God. Now a year later with illustrator, publisher, marketing director, all of that. Here we are. Dr. Cam: It is absolutely amazing. And I remember talking about it and you sent me the manuscript and reading it and going, “Oh my God, this is absolutely beautiful.” The whole way you described tangled up in this description is so incredible. But who knew a year later? Tell us a little bit about what the book is about and the purpose of the book because I think that's a big piece of it. JE: Yeah, so it's a children's book. It talks about how kids get tangled up. Obviously, adults get tangled up too. But this is directed at kids to let them know, hey, things get you tangled up, whether it's big things or little things, whether it's daddy being deployed, moving, bullies, struggling with school, a death in the family, someone's sick, well, heaven sakes, COVID now. All of this, anything to get us tangled up. In the book, I describe how we are made from these beautiful threads. And we're made to do beautiful things, bright, sparkly threads of us. And when things happen in our life with big things, little things, we get tangled up in knots. And sometimes moms and dads, sisters, brothers can't help. Sometimes friends can't even help. And that's where counselors and therapists come in. In the book, I call them professional detanglers because that's what they are. Love that. In the book, they take the beautiful threads of us that have been tangled up, and they can detangle them, they know how to make us flowing and brilliant and bright again. And one little idea that you had Cam when I brought this to you because I trust you and I love your wisdom and you are one of those amazing professional detanglers. DC: I'm going to take that title by the way. Teen Detangler JE: You had the idea of putting in animals. And so, throughout the book, there are these kittens that get tangled up in yarn, and one's trying to help. And by the end of the book, they're not tangled up anymore. But I love that idea that you put in there, that was so great. DC: I love that. I just want to say as an adult, that book is helpful. And right now, so many people are feeling tangled up. The kids are feeling it. Teens are feeling it. Adults are feeling it. And I feel like this book, it's written for kids, but it has a message that is really, really important for all of us. And it is said in a way that is so beautiful. You're touching on a topic that is so difficult, and it's difficult for us as parents to bring up to our kids. Because I think there's a stigma to seeking help. It means you're broken. Seeking help means something's wrong with you. And that's not the case in this book. So clearly it shows that it has nothing to do with you being broken. You just need to be detangled. JE: We all get there. We are all in some way have been, or will be, or are tangled up. And it is hard to make that first call. It's hard. Like that's a big deal. When you make the call, like, hey, my family needs help, or I need help, you're admitting something is wrong. People need to know there's something wrong with everybody. To make that first call is so important. But I've had adult friends that have said, “I've read this book, and this has helped me to realize it's okay to reach out for help.” I mean, the saying is it takes a village .100%. I do not know where I would be without our counselors or therapists. I mean, in their school and church and outside of that as well. And if there's any message, it's to reach out for help, become untangled. We are made for beautiful things, amazing things. And it's so hard to do that when we're stuck. And when we're tangled up. It's so hard. DC: I love that. It just occurred to me too, when your necklaces and stuff get tangled up, you can sit there and try to work it out and it gets more and more and more tangled. The easiest way to fix it is to be really loose with it and just let it fall out. It's like you just have to breathe, give yourself space. Instead of constantly trying to fix, fix, fix, and getting somebody to help you do that. It's all about just breathing and taking some time, just letting those fallout. So, tell us now because I love your current story. Do you mind telling us a little bit about your move to Indonesia? JE: It's so funny that this book is coming out. I'm feeling a little bit tangled up right now. Stuck just because we are moving to Indonesia, which we're so excited about. But we were supposed to move on October 1, and things just keep getting delayed. So, we are literally sitting in this half-empty house, already said goodbyes, kind of stuck in the middle. We have a house, job interviews lined up. We had all these things at the girls' school, and now we are waiting and sitting here stuck. And it's literally out of our control. We have to trust God with it. But yeah, we are feeling stuck. And the only thing I can do is one, we're together as a family, which is amazing. But when I do feel stuck is to talk about it. Like it's living examples. You practice what you preach. Here you are. How are we going to handle this? We're excited to get there. And I know that it's all in perfect timing and God's timing when we end up there, which is supposed to be in the next couple of weeks. So yeah, fingers crossed, and I'm going to get there. DC: I love how you've also taken the steps that you can. I think a lot of people can relate just to COVID. Because I think most of us do feel like we're just stuck right in our houses and not able to go anywhere, yours is even more literal. So, you could just stay there and literally just sit in the middle of an empty room and cry and say this sucks. And yet, you're telling me all these things that you're doing. The mindset that you've had is looking for the pros to this. Your kids are now taking school there. So, they're adjusting to the new hours, they're meeting friends already. By the time they get there, they've already taken a big step and they don't have all the steps to take at once. Right? The book is coming out and you may be here when your book comes out, right. I just love how even now a lot of people would sit there and there are so many things for you to literally bitch about. You're finding the good in it. Which is why a year ago, you're sitting on your porch crying. You were still dreaming, but you didn't know what you were going to do. You just knew you were going to do something, right. I remember you taking walks and taking pictures and I was always so inspired by that. Because it's finding the beauty in the midst of all of this chaos, right? And by doing that you untangled yourself and you found your path and I think it's so inspirational and I want people listening to this to just take that and say yeah, this can suck but there is beauty in it. JE: There's an outlet that I can take out of this what time says that's it's hour by hour, day by day, sometimes minute by minute, but this whole process has made me see that every day is a gift and every time with your people is a gift. And even in this waiting being able to spend time with the people, I love here and just I mean even little family traditions like going to Cox farms and I getting to be here for my goddaughters birthday. All of those little things are huge and it's just day by day, step by step like there is beauty in every moment if you look for it, it's there it is there. DC: Jamie you've always been someone that I've looked up to because of the way that you're able to just view the world and I just want to thank you for that because you keep me focused and thinking, “okay there's something good in this.” How can people find your book when it comes out and follow you because you're going to be doing a tour at some point and people can say, “I saw you on Dr. Cam's show.” JE: I'm on Facebook and Instagram right now. It's @TangledUpBook. The presale starts in November, all the links will be there. It's going to be sold almost everywhere books are sold. Follow me @TangledUpBook on Facebook and Instagram, all the information all the details will be there. DC: And I'll link to it from YouTube and on the podcast. Jamie, thank you. This was my first official interview and I love it. We've got to meet back a year from now—if we have time in our schedules, because we're gonna be so busy with all of our success (laughs). So, let's plan on meeting back in a year and checking in. As we know, a lot can happen in a year. JE: Absolutely. Absolutely. I love it. DC: So, if you guys liked this story, which there's no way you can't. I mean, come on, Jamie is so inspirational. Please share it, like it, send Jamie some love. And get the book when it comes out because it's beautiful and amazing.

Today, I know the difference between love and lust. That wasn't the case 20 and 30 years ago. Lust is an intense sexual attraction to another person. You just want to do what biology is calling on you to, by any means necessary. It is fueled in your mind by fantasy and competition. You want to "hit the bottom" or knock a hole in that thing. It's goal directed. It's addictive. It's self centered. You just can't wait to get in to it. Oh I remember those days. When it is mutual, it can be animalistic. When it is not it violates. It can endanger. One of the only good things about lust is can be what starts a good relationship. It can be what allows for deep physical connection, if we survive the fire. When your hearts on fire, smoke gets in your eyes. Lust feels like love until its' time to make a sacrifice. Love and lust, however, are not identical and can appear in any combination, with or without the other, fluctuating between the two states over time. Love is a basic human need that keeps us bonded to the people who matter most. A secure, loving attachment with a romantic partner involves a deep affection, trust, and acceptance of a person, with all of their flaws. I want to tell you about a girl I lusted after. She had a serious hour glass figure. When she wore her red, she could stop traffic. Police officers used to follow us, just to see her. She had a peek a boo bra. She was big up top. She was hotter than Georgia asphalt. She spoke with a low deep voice. She was not good for me. She was a 1971 Chevy Corvette. She had a big block 454 engine with a Edelbrock blower peaking out of the fiberglass hood. It had hard detachable t-tops. In the summer, you could feel the temperature from engine compartment. It didn't have A/C. The motor was so powerful it had chains assisting the motor mounts. You could torque the frame with the RPM of the engine. She growled when she idled. She got 10 miles to the gallon in the city. 12MPG on the highway under 60. She got respect and a lot of looks. I had to park her away from other cars. She was horrible in bad weather. She slid on wet pavement like a ice skater. It was lust. She gave nothing back. When you want a cool car, it is lust. The car can't and doesn't love you back. It is one sided. Lust is like that. There is no commitment. She'll put you down in a out of the way place. She'll wear out, or be sold for something newer. You don't do that with a person you love. 15 Rules For a Loving, Lasting, and Satisfying Relationship by Janet C Hall and Steven R Hall | Dec 13, 2019 Conversation with the authors of 15 Rules, Janet C. Curt Hooker recently retired after 50 years of helping build the Edelbrock company, in Los Angeles, California. I had the pleasure of meeting Curt while shooting an episode of Cars Yeah TV at the Edelbrock headquarters. Curt was in charge of developing and testing performance products for the company. A life-long automotive enthusiast who loves wrenching on cars and going fast, for six years Curt raced his 1968 Chevelle Super Stock Racer winning numerous bracket races on Wednesday and Saturday nights. From there he ran an A/ED front engine dragster and set a national record at 7.8 at 180 mph back in 1977 and 1978. Curt and his wife Theresa have been married for 41 years and their two sons have followed in their dad’s footsteps, loving cars and his 11-year-old grandson races a Mini Hydro boat.

Geeks do the best show & tell - let the Garage Hour tell you how. We've got everything from a blown quad piston (13:1 compression on av-gas will do that), fragged spider gears (from a fragged SN-95 diff), intake shrapnel (the cast Edelbrock intake didn't like that much juice), wheel chunks from a CORR race truck, to a five-inch naval shell cut and polished into a fine ashtray, the official K-Bar US Constitution (pocket-sized, of course), and titanium ore needles. It's the Garage Hour - what did you expect? Boring? We don't have that. It's also gearhead radio, so we deep-dove on our usual medley of historic, awesome and intelligent lunacy, including a full-frontal assault on big government (leave the Second Amendment alone, you leeches), plus a duscussion of fradulent pot supporters, real beer supporters (plus Captain Morgan), fun junkyard parts for fun and Phil, a second assault on epic douche and all-around limey to threaten Piers Morgan, wiring stereos versus wiring IEDs, and a whole truckload of World War Two stuff. That's just for starters: yes, have some Garage Hour.
