I detta avsnitt gästas jag av Peter Roth – författaren till boken LIVET HIVET DÖDEN. Peter kom ut som homosexuell i början av 80-talet, samtidigt som ett mystiskt och dödligt virus började sprida skräck i gayvärlden. Ingen visste till en början hur det smittade eller varför just homosexuella män drabbades hårdast. Människor i hans närhet dog, och rädslan var ständigt närvarande. Det var först efter 30-årsåldern som Peter testade amfetamin för första gången. Vid den tiden hade han en stabil tillvaro med jobb, bostad och sin dotter. Han kunde aldrig föreställa sig att han några år senare skulle vara fast i ett tungt missbruk och ha förlorat allt. Drogerna tog gradvis över, och till slut stod han där – utan pengar, utan bostad, utan arbete. Och så kom beskedet som förändrade allt – han hade fått HIV. Men Peter gav inte upp. Idag har han över 20 år i tillfrisknande och arbetar som alkohol- och drogterapeut, mindfulness-instruktör, föreläsare och författare. Genom sin historia inspirerar han andra och visar att det alltid finns en väg tillbaka.

Theologian, historian, and musician, Jim Willis earned his Bachelor's degree from the Eastman School of Music, and his Master's degree from Andover Newton Theological School. An ordained minister for over 40 years, he served as an adjunct college professor and guest lecturer in comparative religion, cross-cultural studies, and contemporary spirituality. Ronda Dodge, Chairperson of the Island Nursing Home (INH) Board of Directors, and I continue our discussion about the closure of the facility, plans to reopen and what we can all do to be supportive in the meantime. Exciting news! The INH Board is working on finalizing a contract with an outside agency who will come in and provide an assessment and recommendations for reopening. We will have more details available next week, but this is a very hopeful step! Ronda talks about the need for housing on or near the island.
