I love today's inspiring episode with Rebecca Contreras, author of “Lost Girl.” Rebecca's life story is a testament to the power of resilience, faith, and determination. From growing up in challenging circumstances to becoming an advisor to President George W. Bush, and then a successful entrepreneur, Rebecca's journey is both compelling and motivational. Tune in to hear how she overcame addiction, trauma, and poverty to achieve remarkable success and give back to her community. Bio: Rebecca is a successful entrepreneur and business leader whose company AvantGarde LLC—now over 120 strong—is built upon Godly principles that help both her clients and employees thrive. Born into poverty to a drug-addicted mother and raised in a religious but totalitarian household, Rebecca's first experiences with religion often left her with feelings of doubt and disdain. At age 19, Rebecca dropped out of high school and succumbed to substance-abuse and a generational cycle of destruction. A fresh experience at a local church led her to surrender completely to God, adopting a position of humility, and entering into an active and intentional relationship with Him. With God as her light, and surrounded by spiritual mentors, Rebecca dealt with the issues and mistakes of her past and embraced transformation in all areas of her life. God filled the trenches dug by rejection and she accepted God's grace, forgiveness, and the promise of Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Rebecca's remarkable transformation disproves the lie that anything other than God can be our source of hope and provision. God's promises came to pass in both her personal and professional life. God rescued her from being a lost girl, brought her to advise a sitting U.S. president, and helped her found and lead a thriving company. God also gave her a loving family with whom she can grow in her faith. Welcome to another episode of Returning: A podcast to return to yourself and the wisdom within. In this episode, we come face to face with that inconvenient and inevitable reality of life: change. I believe so much of life's suffering stems from our relationship with change - either wanting things to change or not wanting things to change. But the harsh truth is that: in life, there is only change. So how do we befriend it? This is undoubtedly a life's work, but I'm devoted to living into my relationship with change. I find such insight in the cycles of nature which allow change to unfold with ease and trust. What shifts for us when we lean into the wisdom of life's natural rhythms? “We are cyclic beings, in a constant state of change, of evolution, of growth. Change is one of the only certainties of life. When you resist your cyclic nature, you resist life.”- Rebecca Campbell Key Timestamps: 02:51 - Let's open a Sacred Space together 02:58 - Understanding the natural cycles of life 06:54 - What happens when we resist change? 08:10 - What can we learn from nature? 12:33 - Today's Soul Inquiry prompt 13:41 - Closing Sacred Space SOUL INQUIRY Soul Inquiry is a practice where we enter a direct dialogue with our inner self. In this episode, I'm exploring a complex topic that isn't discussed much. I've enlisted my bestie, Amy Firth, and together with laughter and truth-bombs, we unpack the unique grief of friendships ending. I've really felt a pull lately to find a way to address this topic. There's so much out there about different types of relationship endings: death, divorce, breakups, and separation, but rarely do I come across conversations that address the unique and profound grief that comes with the end of a friendship. Anchored in our own friendship of 20+ years, join Amy & I as we explore the changing landscapes of friendships and share our own experiences of what helped us sit with and work through the pain and discomfort of friendships ending. “You can still really lovingly hold space for someone and not have them in your life.” - Amy Firth KEY TIMESTAMPS 05:12 - Why it feels so different to other breakups or bereavements. 08:35 - How simple ritual can help us articulate our grief. 14:02 - The importance of clear communication & having difficult conversations. 16:53 - Is conflict constructive or destructive? 18:38 - Amy's experience of going to therapy with a friend. 24:30 - Allowing the seasons & cycles of different friendships. 30:01 - Soul connections and when friendships serve their purpose. 35:03 - How stepping back & letting go can be the most loving act. 39:13 - Are women hardwired to protect the home/our sense of belonging? 49:46 - How the 'Honouring Endings' ritual is a simple tool to honour the endings of friendships. 56:11 - Soul Inquiry Prompts SOUL INQUIRYSoul Inquiry is a practice where we enter a direct dialogue with our inner self. We already know that the perinatal experience can be multi-layered and differently nuanced for each person. The story we're hearing today brings several conditions into the spotlight of our attention and highlights the need for awareness and sound treatment around the world. My guest shares her experience with tokophobia, a term that may be unfamiliar. It refers to “a pathological fear of childbirth.” You can only imagine that this condition would cause a mental health crisis and complicate the perinatal experience. Join us to learn more in today's conversation! I'm joined by Rebecca McMartin, the host of the Perinatal Stories Australia podcast. She is a podcaster and digital creator based in Sydney, Australia, but she sees herself first as a storyteller and mom of a little boy. Following an acute mental health crisis when her son was born, Rebecca found relief in writing and stories as a way to process her pain and grief. From that experience, she decided to harness the power of storytelling to start Perinatal Stories Australia, which is a podcast, blog, and social media platform for Australian women to share their lived experiences with perinatal mental health. In today's episode, Rebecca shares her complicated perinatal story and explains tokophobia. In her case, tokophobia led to PTSD, and her experience with intrusive thoughts and OCD served to complicate her story. We also talk about the importance of mother-baby psychiatric units, which are not as common in the US as in Australia and the UK. Show Highlights: An overview of Rebecca's story: a history of anxiety and OCD from childhood that carried into adulthood and an uncomplicated pregnancy Why Rebecca “did all the work” leading up to her pregnancy to avoid anxiety getting in the way of her experience How dealing with anxiety comes down to holding onto the bits of life we can control and feeling overwhelmed by seemingly simple decisions How everything changed for Rebecca as her third trimester came along with unnatural fears of childbirth and dying, fears of leaving her house, and tokophobia How Rebecca's doctor suggested a C-section because there is a certain level of control How Rebecca found comfort through her Ob, the attending midwife, a social worker, and the hospital staff Why a lot of self-blame and guilt accompany mental illness How her anxiety changed during the postpartum to other fears, worries, and health anxiety How Rebecca experienced PTSD shortly after her son's birth, along with nightmares, insomnia, intrusive thoughts, and medication that wasn't helping—all in the first week How a health professional suggested that maybe she didn't want to be a mother anyway, and that's why she was struggling How Rebecca's social worker got her into the mother-baby psychiatric unit for help–and she finally felt SAFE How local mental health crisis services helped Rebecca after her hospital stay and release Why remedying sleep disturbances should be the FIRST step in helping new moms How Rebecca realized (after her MBU stay) that she had tokophobia Why self-compassion was a big piece of what Rebecca had to learn Why Rebecca decided to start her podcast to tell her story and the stories of others–and to provide the resource that she once needed Resources: Connect with Rebecca: Website (and podcast), Facebook, and Instagram Visit www.postpartum.net for resources and support! In this episode, we hash out a question I get asked all the time: when it comes to intuition: is no guidance, guidance? I've learnt there are often three reasons why we may not be receiving clear guidance. Which is true for you? This is such a common question that I get asked, and it's definitely something I have experienced for myself. In my experience living an intuitive life, one of the most frustrating and testing things is when we don't receive guidance according to our timelines or in the way that we expected. Today I'm sharing with you three common reasons why you may not be receiving guidance – plus – some practical tools you can apply today to deepen your connection with the wisdom within. “In my experience, it's often when we are at our busiest and most stretched that showing up to some kind of achievable devotional practice will really serve us the most.” - Rebecca Campbell Key Timestamps: 03:05 Today's listener question from Virginia 04:26 When waiting on intuitive guidance gets frustrating! 04:54 If you're not receiving guidance, it could be one of these three reasons... 05:48 Reason 1: Disconnection To Your Inner Self 11:32 Reason 2: An Inconvenient Truth 12:52 A question to ask yourself when you're afraid of the inconvenient truth 13:39 Reason 3: Wait, it's not yet time 14:00 The time I had to wait 18 months for clarity on a vision 22:28 How to practice 'active waiting' 25:00 Soul Inquiry SOUL INQUIRY Soul Inquiry is a practice where we enter a direct dialogue with our inner self. Welcome to another episode of Returning: A podcast to return to yourself and the wisdom within. Today, I'm excited to introduce you to intuitive spiritual artist, Katie Louise. Katie is the illustrator I collaborated with on my most recent Oracle Decks: The Rose Oracle and The Healing Waters Oracle. Today we go deep into the world of creativity, intuition and spirituality. I'm a big believer that everyone is creative and intuitive, but we have to do the work to open ourselves up to receive, to learn how to listen to the whispers of that wisdom within and have the courage to act on it. This is why creativity, intuition, and spirituality are so intertwined for me. It's an endless invitation for us to trust our soul mission, to truly show up with regular rhythm, to own our gifts, and allow ourselves to be seen. “As I healed, the creativity came back, and the creativity gave me so much joy. It reminded me about play. It reconnected me to nature. Today I share with you a poem which I wrote during the extreme times of 2020. A time so many of us are still processing. I'd just given birth to my first child and life was changing so deeply, so fast, in so many ways. The world was in a state of chaos like we'd never known and I felt deeply attuned to the intense, collective suffering we were all experiencing. And yet, the experience of birthing of my son had shown me the agony and ecstasy of new beginnings – the raw power of surrendering to sacred pain and life unfolding… This poem speaks from that place – and is a prayer for your healing, your wholeness, the medicine of your inner seasons. May you know how held you are. “There is such potential in the fertile void, the darkness, the in-between – if we can just trust the process, trust the season, trust the sacred pain.” - Rebecca Campbell Key Timestamps: 00:32 - A poem for those going through sacred pain 02:20 - Where this poem came from in me. 04:16 - Collectively emerging from a difficult phase in our lives. 05:49 - The purpose of this poem 06:07 - I'm holding you in my prayers MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE Full Episode Transcript - https://rebeccacampbell.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/Ep+16.+For+Those+Going+Through+Sacred+Pain_Transcript.pdf Book: Letters To A Starseed by Rebecca Campbell - https://rebeccacampbell.me/letters-starseed-book/ Book : Light Is The New Black by Rebecca Campbell - https://mc.rebeccacampbell.me/shop/books/light-is-the-new-black/ Connect with Rebecca: Website - https://rebeccacampbell.me/practice/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/rebeccacampbell_author/ Facebook - https://web.facebook.com/rebeccacampbellauthor YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/RebeccaCampbell

Welcome to another episode of Returning: A podcast to return to yourself and the wisdom within. In this episode, I'm handing the space over to you to hear your questions, and we're going to hash it out together. Today we are exploring: What does 'living the question' mean? So much in my life aligned once I really understood how to embody my intuition by living the question. ‘Live the question' is a phrase that comes from one of my favourite books called ‘Letters to a Young Poet' by Rainer Maria Rilke. Living the question has evolved into a key practice in my life. It changed everything for me once I really understood how to embody my intuition by living the question. I sense it can create significant shifts for you too. In this episode, I share some big questions that I'm living into right now, as well as the practices I use that help me listen more deeply for the answers. “‘Living the question' is all about embodying our intuition - living from a state of curiosity, wonder and humility as we navigate the complexities of being human.” - Rebecca Campbell Key Timestamps: 01:50 Let's open Sacred Space together 02:54 Today's Listener Question: What does 'living the question' mean? 03:08 Where did the phrase 'live the question' come from? 03:50 My favourite poem from 'Letters To A Young Poet' by Rainer Maria Rilke. 07:01 Entering into a sacred dance with life 08:36 Some examples of questions I'm living into right now 11:24 Dedicated practices to support the 'living into the question' 15:12 The benefits of journaling or walking with a question 18:30 Today's Soul Inquiry 19:34 Closing Sacred Space SOUL INQUIRY Soul Inquiry is a practice where we enter a direct dialogue with our inner self. In today's episode, we're exploring land consciousness: seeing all parts of the earth as sacred and conscious. Taking our place as reverent custodians and protectors of the lands upon which we live. When I talk about ‘Land Consciousness' – I'm talking about all parts of the land, stones, plants, trees, rivers, flowers etc – but also its ancestors: its keepers, its custodians, its traditions, its intelligence, its memories, its spiritual essence. It's about seeing the alive-ness of the earth and land around us. I'm going to be sharing with you a personal story of how a discovery at my front door brought me to my knees as I realised how profoundly the land we live on provides for us, if we just open our eyes to truly see it. This moment changed so much for me and how I navigate my way through this life, no matter what land I'm on. “Land consciousness is the belief that all land holds memory and experiences, that the land is a living thing.“ - Rebecca Campbell Key Timestamps: 00:30 - What I mean when I talk about “Land Consciousness” 03:40 - Opening Sacred Space. 04:50 - The severing of our connection to the earth. 06:05 - What happens when you consciously connect with the earth? 06:50 - Lands ability to hold memory and experience. 08:20 - attuning to the consciousness of the land. 08:50 - The practice of “being walked by the land” with nomadic ancestors. 11:55 - Soul inquiry SOUL INQUIRY Soul Inquiry is a practice where we enter a direct dialogue with our inner self. Today I'm sharing a personal experience that I've never spoken publicly about before. I recorded it on my phone, in bed at 6am - knowing I was ready to speak my story and share it with you. Content Warning: I will be talking about my experience of miscarriage and baby loss. If this feels supportive, then please listen. If not, feel free to skip this episode. My intention with this episode is simply to share my story. When I went through miscarriage - something I found so helpful was hearing other people's experiences and especially understanding practically and physically what happened. I really go there in this episode. Also, whilst it's a deeply personal experience - it's so incredibly common - and yet, I don't feel we are given the space or tools to really speak about it, which can make the entire experience feel incredibly lonely. I know for me, even with the support of my close ones, the experience of it felt so isolating - and I suppose that's why hearing others share their stories really helped me. So that's why I'm speaking my story today. Not as a medical professional, or a bereavement expert - but simply from one human to another - believing and trusting in the importance of speaking our stories - especially when it's difficult. “When you go through anything, any kind of grief, any kind of big loss like that, it takes time, and in many cases, time is the only thing that does work.” - Rebecca Campbell Key Timestamps: 02:37: My intention & the two reasons why I'm sharing this story 4:56: Acknowledging speaking this story from a place of Motherhood and successful pregnancies 07:16: Explaining the timeline of my two miscarriages 11:06: Why I chose to share news of my pregnancy with family and friends so early on 12:25: The events of my miscarriage, beginning on Christmas morning 18:51: Wrestling with the word "miscarry" and the sense of having done something wrong 21:50: Miscarriage initiation: experiencing life and death within the body, within a breath. 23:23: The importance of others acknowledging the loss 31:30: The biggest question I had after experiencing two miscarriages 38:57: Today's Soul Inquiry Prompt SOUL INQUIRY Soul Inquiry is a practice where we enter a direct dialogue with our inner self. Elizabeth DiAlto has an incredible ability to go deep, fast - whilst also keeping it real. Please note: this episode contains some grown-up language, be mindful if you have little ears around. Known for her raw, honest, and nuanced approach to spirituality and the healing arts, Elizabeth DiAlto is an Embodiment Specialist, a Mystic, and host of the Embodied Podcast. In this episode, we go deep into what it means to be embodied in the context of one's spiritual path. She shares how embodiment goes beyond the physical, how nature and the land relate to embodiment, how your childhood qualities play a role in who you are today, and the importance of being rooted in the present and being fully aware of what you want. Embodiment is not only getting out of your head and dropping into your body, but it's also about dropping into your soul, in whatever way that manifests for you. Embodiment is a state of being that you can connect to through intuition. “When you're embodied, you can notice and name your sensations, emotions, and feelings states, and then on a deeper level, you can perceive your intuition and the presence of spiritual guidance and support." — Elizabeth DiAlto A native New Yorker of Puerto Rican and mixed-European descent, Elizabeth started her professional life in sales, then moved into health and fitness. In 2013 life finally called her to do her soul's work and she founded what has now evolved into the School of Sacred Embodiment. Elizabeth is a true mystic and I'm lucky to call her my friend. She has an infectious sense of humour and laugh - hence there is a lot of laughing in this episode. And a lot of heart-searing truth. Key Timestamps: 04:30 What embodiment means in the context of being on a spiritual path, and the difference between paying attention to your body and being embodied. 11:28 The role of nature in embodiment, how the land can be connected to ancestral healing, and how Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene represent themselves for Elizabeth. 20:28 Unique childhood qualities that help explain who Elizabeth is today, and how she has learned to become present and aware of what she wants (as opposed to what the world says she should want.) 35:45 How soul contracts develop, how mothering relates to embodiment, and the roles that awakening and integration play in embodiment. 41:45 The role that trauma plays in embodiment, how your trauma and intuition can work together, and how past life work is best when it relates to your current life's work. 39:34 How Elizabeth views and embodies courage, and how movement brings her back to the wisdom within. SOUL INQUIRY Soul Inquiry is a practice where we enter a direct dialogue with our inner self. The Soul Inquiry prompt for this episode is: What is my body yearning for right now? Today, I share my secret to living a soul-led life. It took me 20 years to figure it out, but it'll take you 15 minutes a day. Over the past decade, I have worked on creating a way of living that taps into the wisdom of the soul and the intelligence of life and grounds it with daily action. The biggest shift in my life happened when I committed to showing up to listen to and act on the whispers of my soul with a consistent regular rhythm, and that's what the three steps are all about. I do the three steps every day, and it takes no more than 15 minutes. I wish I had known about them earlier in my life! Join me as we go through the steps together: STEP 1. CONNECT with your soul through a soulful practice. STEP 2. RECEIVE the call of your soul through a practice like Soul Inquiry. STEP 3. ACT on the whispers of your soul by taking a baby step in that direction. “If we really want to live a purposeful soul-led life, we really need to develop a relationship with our soul, with our inner self." — Rebecca Campbell Key Timestamps: 00:49 - Let's open up a sacred space together 06:45 - The three steps to living a soul-led life 07:19 - What do the words ‘soul action' mean? 10:03 - Connect with your soul through a soulful practice 13:26 - Receive the call of your soul through a practice like Soul Inquiry 17:53 - The key to acting on the call is not as complex as you might think 23:25 - Let's do the three steps together 32:33 - Closing the sacred space together SOUL INQUIRY Soul Inquiry is a practice where we enter a direct dialogue with our inner self. In today's short episode, I'm sharing a poem I wrote to myself during one of the most difficult times of my life. A time when I'd been holding on so tightly to the life I'd consciously created, and it all came crashing down around me. This poem helped me through the darkest of times, and later appeared in my first book, Light Is the New Black. In this episode, I share it with you - praying it too can help you connect with the wisdom and hope available to us when we are sent spiralling through the difficult edges of life. In the moments of darkness, it is easier to see the light. Surrender, and you will see it… “Surrendering to the rock bottom and finding a depth in the ground that I didn't know was there was, ironically, incredibly liberating.” - Rebecca Campbell Key Timestamps: - 00:16 - I Pray You Hit Rock Bottom - the poem - 02:00 - Origin story of this piece of writing - 03:33 - The Tower tarot card - 04:29 - Wisdom coming from dark periods - 05:19 - I'm holding you in my prayers Resources: My Book: Light Is the New Black: A Guide to Answering Your Soul's Callings and Working Your Light - https://www.amazon.com/Light-New-Black-Answering-Callings/dp/1401948502 Connect with Rebecca: - Website - https://rebeccacampbell.me/practice/ - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/rebeccacampbell_author/ - Facebook - https://web.facebook.com/rebeccacampbellauthor - YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/RebeccaCampbell
Welcome to another episode of Returning: A podcast to return to yourself and the wisdom within. Today, I'm sharing one of my favorite Sacred Practices, a meditation called Earth Pulsing. I created this meditation practice in 2017 when I was craving replenishment and regulation. It is a great practice to find some calm, slow down, get grounded, fill up your well, and regulate yourself. Join me as we meditate together. It would be great if you could do it in nature, but you can also do it lying on the ground or in a bed. “Your only job for this meditation really is to slow down your breath, surrender, and relax. “How do I tell the difference between my intuition and my head?” Welcome to another episode of Returning: A podcast to return to yourself and the wisdom within. In this episode, I am handing the space over to you – to hear your questions, your longings, your struggles, and your breakthroughs. We're going to hash it out together and see if we can follow the thread and all learn a little or perhaps unlearn a little. Today we're exploring the question: How do I tell the difference between my intuition and my head? I can't tell you how often I get asked this question. It's a common struggle for us all, whether we're setting out on our path or maybe life gets in the way, and we feel we've lost our connection. So I'll share with you how to understand the four primary intuitive senses that are constantly communicating with us and the nine ways I've learned to discern between the voice in my head and my intuition. “I really do believe that our intuition is one of life's greatest mysteries.” - Rebecca Campbell Key Timestamps: - 03:30 - Listener Question: How do you tell the difference between your mind and intuition? - 06:07 - What is clairvoyance, and how do you know if you have it? - 07:30 - What is clairaudience, and how do you know if you have it? - 09:40 - What is claircognizance, and how do you know if you have it? - 11:12 - What is clairsentience, and how do you know if you have it? - 15:04 - 9 Differences between the voice in your head and the voice of your intuition - 25:17 - How working with our intuition can impact our lives SOUL INQUIRY Soul Inquiry is a practice where we enter a direct dialogue with our inner self. Welcome to the first episode of Returning: A podcast to return to yourself and the wisdom within. I'm so glad you're here. Whilst the energy of creating a podcast has been calling me for a long while, it took a long time to get really clear on why I'm doing it. What's the intention? How is it going to help people? Living into these questions has really shaped this new podcast in a way that I hope will really serve, support and encourage you to return to the wisdom within. So what do I really mean when I talk about "returning to the wisdom within"? In this first episode, we dive deep into that very question. I'll also lay out what you can expect from me going forward - each season features a diverse selection of episode styles - some episodes will be short to help you connect with the wisdom within quickly, others will be more in-depth deep-dives.
