Now considered an adopted South Australian after 20 years in the state, Dave beams with pride discussing his 17-year-old son's musical talent. The veteran rocker delivers fascinating insights into how established artists are navigating today's music landscape. "The last album we did cost us 70 grand," Dave reveals, explaining why The Screaming Jets are shifting toward releasing singles rather than full albums. This pivot represents a significant change for career musicians adapting to the streaming era – maintaining relevance through periodic releases while avoiding massive upfront production costs. Fans will be thrilled to hear Dave still has a country album in development, following up his beloved first solo effort. The conversation turns to his upcoming performance with Australian rock royalty John Swan (73) and Kevin Borich (78) at The Gov. Despite being the "baby" of the trio at 56, Gleeson shares their relentless passion for performance. "I'd hate to be told I couldn't do it anymore, rather than deciding I didn't want to do it anymore," he reflects, revealing the deep connection these veterans feel to their craft. Their show promises an electrifying mix of Screaming Jets, Angels, and Party Boys classics alongside rock standards from AC/DC and more. Dave also mentions the "supergroup" Fabulous Caprettos with Jack Jones and Rai Thistlethwayte, who'll be performing seated shows – a format that allows for storytelling between songs but would feel restrictive for his more raucous rock projects. Join us for this candid conversation that captures the evolving journey of one of Australia's most beloved rock personalities. What has Gleeso been up to lately?  Let's find out!!Get out when you can, support local music and I'll see you down the front!!Visit: ThatRadioChick.com.au

LAURIE KAYE Interview - Confessions of a Rock n' Roll Name Dropper : My Life Leading up to John Lennon's Last Interview

KNOW GOOD MUSIC Interviews LAURIE KAYE Laurie wrote a great book called "CONFESSIONS OF A ROCK N' ROLL NAME DROPPER : My life leading up to John Lennon's Last Interview. We talk to Laurie about her career in radio with the RKO NETWORK (KFRC) in the 7o's and some of the people she interviewed like David Bowie, Mick Jagger, George Harrison and of course, John Lennon who she interviewed on Dec 8th, 1980 at the Dakota hours before he was murdered. Her book is a great look into the 70s and how she got to experience some great concerts and encounters with Rock Legends first hand. Matt and Rob read the book and loved it!  Loved how Laurie incorperated the dialogue from her interviews into the book (the audio version has excerpts from the actual interviews) ***** ABOUT THE BOOK and LAURIE  Rock reporter Laurie Kaye interviewed John Lennon just hours before he was murdered in 1980 outside New York's famous Dakota apartments and even ran into his assassin (whom she refuses to cite by name) on the street outside, and here she recounts the story of that fateful night, the centerpiece of this memoir about the life of a SoCal girl with a troubled childhood who got to live out her dream by interviewing many of the most famous rock stars of the time. Name dropping? Well, they say it ain't bragging if you really did it and Laurie Kaye has really done it. These stories about so many culturally important people are exciting and illuminating. I read this book with pleasure and amazement. I know that you will dig it, too! On December 8, 1980, twenty-something rock journalist Laurie Kaye entered the legendary Dakota apartments on Manhattan's Upper West Side to co-conduct an interview with her longtime idol, John Lennon. It was the last interview Lennon would ever give—just hours later, outside that same building, Lennon was shot dead by a twenty-five-year-old man (whom Kaye refuses to refer to by name) whom Kaye herself had encountered after finishing the interview and stepping outside onto the street. Kaye has beaten herself up ever since over her failure to recognize that the assassin—who blocked her path and harassed her with questions like “Did you talk to him?” “Did you get his autograph?”—posed a danger and should have been reported. Now, as we approach the forty-fifth anniversary of Lennon's death, Kaye reflects how she rose from teen runaway from a dysfunctional family to expatriate studying Balinese dancing in Indonesia to journalist, writer, and producer with credits including RKO Presents The Beatles/The Beatles from Liverpool to Legend (at the tender age of twenty-one) and the Lord of the Rings DVD release, plus interviews with such titans of the music industry as Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Talking Heads, The Ramones, David Bowie, and Mick Jagger, whom she put on hold so that he could listen to her newscast before getting down to business. But it was the day she shared a loveseat with John Lennon and watched him push his iconic granny glasses down the length of his nose and smile at her in agreement that remains indelibly etched in her mind—both the best and worst day of her life. Laurie Kaye began her career in radio at KFRC-AM San Francisco, for years one of the nation's greatest top 40 stations, where she started as an intern and worked her way up to on-air reporter and anchor. She wrote and coproduced numerous radio rock specials for RKO, including RKO Presents the Beatles (later expanded and retitled as The Beatles from Liverpool to Legend), and The Top 100 of the 70's before moving on to write Dick Clark's weekly radio countdown show and syndicated newspaper column. Kaye then moved on to television and film as a writer, producer, and casting director.   This book won a Writer's Digest Award the year it was released - 4th place in the Memoir/Personal Essay category of their annual writing competition! ************ VISIT LAURIE'S WEBSITE to find out her upcoming appearances and links to purchase and listen to the book (audio includes experts from her interviews). www.confessionsofarocknrollnamedropper.com ************ KNOW GOOD MUSIC can be found almost anywhere you listen to podcasts including Podbean (host site), Spotify , Apple Podcasts, Iheart Radio, Pandora and YOUTUBE Links to more sources at Link Tree - www.linktr.ee/knowgoodmusic  Help support our Podcast by purchasing some cool merch: https://www.teepublic.com/user/knowgoodmusic Visit our YouTube Channel where you can see video segments from all of our interviews.  Just search "know good music".

Dion Dimucci has been a Rock 'N' Roll pioneer since the late 1950's with his iconic band Dion and the Belmonts. They scored hit after hit including The Wanderer, Runaround Sue, A Teenager in Love and Abraham, Martin and John making them Rock 'N' Roll royalty. Dion co-wrote a stunningly gorgeous coffee table sized book with his pal Adam Jablin called Dion The Rock 'N' Roll Philosopher: Conversations on Life, Recovery, Faith and Music. There are one-of-a-kind photos in the book with music legends Pail Simon, Eric Clapton, Tony Bennett, Bruce Springsteen, Clive Davis, Lou Reed and more. We discuss: 1. How did you come up with the name Dion and the Belmonts? 2. How was it like growing up in Da Bronx being part of the gang the Fordham baldies? Thanks to you guys I have this beautiful coffee table sized book beautifying…my coffee table. Adam 3. How did Dion and Adam get hooked up with each other & what inspired the co-creation of this book? 4. What Dion feels are the reasons for his early success. 5. What gave him the self-confidence that he was a great singer & the ability to sing to millions of people? 6. As with many Rock Legends, Dion seemingly had it all from an outsider's perspective. The hit songs, the fame, the adulation, screaming girls, the power & money…did he feel he had it all and why does he think he turned to a debilitating addiction and what helped him to overcome it? 7. Paul Simon in the books Forward said they don't see each other often but their phone conversations can go on for an hour & usually drift into the spiritual. What does he mean by that? 8. Was there an Aha moment where all of a sudden he found God? How did his spirituality emerge and sustain over all these years? 9. Eric Clapton in the book's prologue says Dion has an essential ingredient: SOUL…buckets of it. How did this soul start & evolve? 10. In 2020 hindsight, what would Dion change if he had to do it all over again? 10. When did Dion first start wearing the berets he is iconically known for and why do you like that signature look? 11.On Feb. 2, 1959 at the Winter Dance Party, there were 4 groups on the bill. Buddy Holly & The Crickets, Big Bopper, Richie Valens & Dion & The Belmonts. The plane didn't make it home and some like Don Maclean called it "The Day the Music Died." What did those guys mean to Dion and why wasn't he on that fatal plane?

Heavy metal rock legend, Carl Canedy, and writer Phillip “Doc” Harrington, recently published Carl's autobiography, Tales of a Wild Dog, Memoirs of a Rock Warrior. Since the age of 5, after observing a striking red drum set at a wedding reception, Carl was determined to play the drums. He received his first drum set in his early teens, immediately immersed himself in practice, and eventually developed his now-famous signature style. He also taught himself how to play guitar and piano, which would later come in handy in his role as a songwriter. After spending his formative years touring with the band Kelakos, in 1979, Carl joined forces with David “Rock” Feinstein to start the legendary Upstate, NY power trio, The Rods. The band quickly became a sensation in the northeast, landing a major recording contract with Arista Records. The Rods toured and played shows with the likes of no less than: Judas Priest, Ozzy, Motörhead, Metallica, Richie Blackmore, Blue Oyster Cult, and many others. In the late 1980's, Carl produced of some of heavy metal's most iconic bands, including: Anthrax, Overkill, Exciter, Possessed, Helstar and many others. He also coached, developed, and mentored bands such as Roxx Gang and Young Turk. The Rods had a resurgence in 2010 with their comeback album; Vengeance., which was followed by Brotherhood of Metal and the highly acclaimed Rattle the Cage. The Rods continue to tour and are currently putting the final touches on their 11th studio album. Carl has also released 2 albums under the moniker of Canedy.Doc is a devoted culinarian and a dedicated heavy metal fan. A graduate of the esteemed Culinary Institute of America, he has spent the past 2 decades writing and arranging technical manuals for the baking industry. Doc views the 80's heavy metal scene as monumentally historic and highly impactful. He seeks to chronicle as much of its stories, triumphs, and challenges as time permits.  A massive Rods fan, Doc encouraged Carl to write his memoirs.I've read Tales of a Wild Dog and can tell you it's an intense, personal look at working within the gritty, full force world of Heavy Metal.  If you're a fan of the genre and want to know more about its origins and the people in it, be sure to check out Tales of a Wild Dog. www.canedyband.com

The Fudge had no precedent. The band was totally unique. No rock group, up until that point, had ever so lugubriously s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d out well-known pop tunes like the Beatles “Eleanor Rigby” and “Ticket To Ride,” Curtis Mayfield‘s “People Get Ready,” Sonny & Cher‘s “Bang Bang” Rod Argent‘s “She‘s Not There” and, most famously, The Supremes‘ Motown classic “You Keep Me Hangin‘ On” to such hippie heights. With Mark Stein‘s mysterioso wash of Grand Guignol keyboard theatrics, Tim Bogert‘s amazing and trippy bass runs, and guitarist Vince Martell‘s era-happy soloing, Appice boomed like no other drummer in rock history. Their debut album still stands today as a Hard Rock classic. Vanilla Fudge went on to tour with Jimi Hendrix, Cream, and even had Led Zeppelin as an opening act.Post-Fudge, Bogert and Appice formed Cactus (seen as an influence on King‘s X and Van Halen). Post-Cactus, the rhythm section found Grammy-winning Guitar Hero Jeff Beck to form the first supergroup: Beck, Bogert & Appice (BBA).One of the premier showmen in rock, Appice became known worldwide for his astonishing live performances, in addition to becoming a highly sought-after session drummer, recording with countless artists throughout his career. In ‘76, he joined Rod Stewart‘s band, touring, recording and writing two of Stewart‘s biggest hits, “Do Ya Think I‘m Sexy' and “Young Turks.' He left Stewart to record his first solo album, “Rockers', and tour Japan and North America with an allstar band. . In the early 80's, he toured with OZZY Osborne ,Ted Nugent . In the mid 80's, he formed King Kobra for two Capitol albums and international touring And in the late 80's, Carmine played on a Pink Floyd record “Momentary Lapse of Reason' and formed Blue Murder with Whitesnake‘s John Sykes and The Firm‘s Tony Franklin. In the early 90s, he pounded away soul-style for The Edgar Winter Group. As an educator, Carmine was the first to legitimize rock drumming with his landmark book, The Realistic Rock Drum Method, selling over 400,000 copies (now in video format).
