But when the other teammates see that someone is not showing up 100% and we have 100% mandatory show up for meetings. We meet daily, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, via zoom at 9: 30 and Tuesdays and Thursdays are in-person, and we will bring part time agents onto our team with a path to full time within a certain time frame. Peter Winter Lee is the Executive Director of the Susquehanna Folk Music Society. He says the music society is South Central Pennsylvania's grassroots for home and traditional folk music. For Lee, folk music has always been a part of his life. “I play in a Celtic Scottish Americana band with my siblings called seasons, and that's how I really became a part of the folk music scene in central Pennsylvania, playing in that band for close to two decades now.” The artists at the festival will include Cape Breton fiddle, Natalie MacMaster & Donnell Leahy, Texas swing alchemists Hot Club of Cowtown and so many more. This year, the Susquehanna Folk Music Society will be in downtown York, offering programming in both The Studio and The Capitol Theatre of the Appell Center for Performing Arts. “I would encourage anyone to try the festival just to experience different forms of music and, you know, find that you might absolutely love Brazilian drumming or something like that. In this episode of Expanded Perspectives, the guys kick things off by discussing the Dallas Stars' recent defeat in the Western Conference Final against the Edmonton Oilers. Kyle humorously regrets ever expressing his love for the team, as fans have been relentlessly teasing him about their loss. Following this, they delve into a report from San Antonio, Texas, where a humanoid creature with oily, black, and smooth skin was spotted completely naked. Next, they recount the experience of an Alabama college student who encountered a massive pterosaur flying directly over their car while driving down a deserted dirt road in rural Alabama, an event the student is still grappling with. Lastly, they share a story from South Central Pennsylvania, where a person witnessed a small, red-haired creature walking down the middle of a tree-lined road one evening. After the break, Kyle and Cam bring up some incredible encounters with the Fae. It may come as a surprise to some that fairies are not inherently nature spirits. This modern interpretation—specifically Victorian and New Age—has reduced powerful beings into small, sweet, and innocent creatures, like the stereotypical garden fairy adorned in a flower hat and skirt. However, there is another side to fairies that is far from benign. Just as our homes are sanctuaries for us, landscapes are sacred to fairy folk. Trespassing on their land can have severe and sometimes deadly consequences, depending on the stories you believe. Whether by setting up camp, stepping into a fairy ring, or inadvertently joining one of their gatherings, many unsuspecting mortals have been whisked away or threatened. Folklore and fairy tales, steeped in the supernatural, are easily manipulated for various purposes. Fairies have been at the center of numerous hoaxes, including the famous Cottingley Fairies, where two young girls nearly convinced the world of their existence. Myths, folklore, and fairy tales have always been vital tools for learning and have frequently been adapted for this purpose. Like human societies, both benevolent and malevolent, fairy folk have their customs and etiquette. If you ever encounter the Faerie Host, Andy Paciorek advises shouting "God Bless you!" and throwing your left shoe at them (though if this fails, you'll have to fight with just one shoe). The general rule is to avoid disturbing fairies if possible. Do not break a fairy ring if you come across one. If you wish to attract a fairy, use something shiny, but place yellow flowers outside your home or have iron objects around to keep them away. The prominence of certain fairy types varies by region. Northern Britain has hobgoblins, child- and adult-abducting fairies, and fairy royalty. In Scotland, the Seelie and Unseelie Courts, described by Andy Paciorek as good and evil fairies, are well-known. In County Durham, the Water Witch lurks by the water's edge, preying on small children. At the Museum of Magic and Witchcraft, it is noted that Cornwall has a variety of fairies, the most prominent being the piskie. The piskie is notorious for causing mischief and mayhem. To fend off piskies, you need iron; otherwise, they will steal anything shiny and play tricks. Here's a tip: not all fairies are benevolent! If you find yourself walking alone at night and hearing a horse's whickering or seeing a strange light ahead, do not follow it. You may end up waylaid and "Puck led." Survivors of such encounters often awaken in a muddy ditch, having been deceived by fairy lights into straying from their path and into trouble. This is a time when families can come together, build foundations, and follow after Jesus. The more you can cut your ego out of what you do, the better off you will be. In this episode, we will take you on a journey to Pennsylvania for a typical bass fishing trip with Jake and his team. He will share his techniques and tips on how to catch smallmouth bass, and his gear set up when bass fishing. Jake also gives insight into the flies he uses when bass fishing, so whether you're a beginner or an experienced angler, you won't want to miss this episode! Episode Chapters with Jake Villwock on Smallmouth Bass Flies 1:34 - Jake shares with us his first memory of fly fishing. His first fish on a fly was a blue gill and his second was a striper. Stripers and saltwater have always been one of his favorite things to target. 3:52 - He has been known for smallmouth bass fishing. He wrote a book titled Smallmouth Bass Flies - Top to Bottom. 5:02 - He talks about the similarities between smallmouth bass and trout. 7:24 - Currently, he operates in South Central Pennsylvania, mainly guiding in Juniata and Susquehanna. Their bass season is from late March to the end of October. 9:41 - Along with other guides, he also guides for steelhead fishing in Lake Eerie and up in New York. He also describes how they do bass fishing. 12:30 - He describes a typical bass fishing trip with them in their area. They meet their clients in a quaint diner called Thompsontown Corner Deli to have breakfast. He also describes the lunch they serve on their trips. 17:20 - We talk about drinking in guiding trips. He mentions the brand Athletic which sells non-alcoholic beer. 19:50 - He explains why big bass in the springtime is very aggressive and shares some tips on how to catch them during this time. He says that keeping yourself low and slow is how you will catch them. 24:15 - We talk about crayfish which is a large portion of the smallmouth's diet in the summertime. He describes his setup with a crayfish fly pattern. 28:28 - He describes how he uses the tip of the fly line to his advantage. He always casts slightly upstream to have a little bit of an angle. Paying attention to the tip of the line to manage the speed of your retrieve is very important. 33:40 - We dig into the fly patterns he uses. The size of the claws of the crayfish is very important to consider. He further describes how he ties his crayfish flies and the materials he uses. 38:49 - One of his favorite flies for the springtime it's still cold is Russ Maddin's circus peanut. We had Russ on the podcast in episode 253. 39:55 - He tells us his signature flies. You can also see how he ties his flies through his YouTube at Relentless TV. He recently signed a contract with Montana Fly Company (MFC). We talked about MFC in episode 531 with Jake Chutz. 41:30 - He walks us through how he targets a fish in top water and subsurface. 47:06 - He also gives tips on finding a fish depending on the season when you're new in the area. June and October are the months when it's hard to find fish. The best thing to do is to start on the banks and float the river when it's low and clear. 51:40 - He gives more tips on his setup, particularly lines. He gives a shoutout to Scientific Angler for their amazing triple-density lines. He also mentions their Stillwater Hover. 55:03 - He mentions the tungsten beads which are good for when you can't see the fish. 56:30 - He usually sees bigger fish during the summertime when the water is clear. He also explains his theory of how the color of the fish tells you if it's ready to eat. 59:57 - When he's bait fishing, he uses a leader that is six to eight feet. For cray fishing and dry fly fishing, he uses a 10 to 12-ft leader. 1:00:42 - He gives valuable tips on casting. When it comes to cray fishing, the more perfect you make the cast, the worse it's going to be. 1:03:10 - He talks about catching steelhead vs big bass in the Lake Eerie. 1:06:00 - We do the Fly Shop Shout-out segment. He mentions the TCO Fly Shop which has multiple shops in Pennsylvania. For those who want to get a trip with Jake's team, they can book with TCO. 1:07:45 - His boat is a Clacka HeadHunter Skiff II. He also uses an NRS Raft in the spring. 1:08:13 - He gives one last tip for bass fishing. 1:09:29 - He leaves us with a funny story about that time when he fell off the boat while guiding. Hey everyone, welcome to episode 183 of the Antler Up Podcast! On this week's episode I was joined by the big guy Chris Weist! Chris is located in South Central PA, and had a crazy year last year connecting on 4 bucks in 3 different states! When I listened to Chris on other podcasts I knew I needed to get him on the show to discuss some whitetail stuff. This episode wraps up the mini series I did for the month of July, in what our guests are doing now to lead up to the season. Chris was able to get ahead in the game so to speak, so it was interesting to hear how he tackles scouting multiple states for the quest to continue his whitetail success for this upcoming season.   We get an introduction to Chris and how his postseason panned out for him. From turkey hunting & scouting in MD, gaining access to a new property in WV, scouting his camp in OH and continuing widening the net here in PA, we hear Chris get into his plans and more. One of the areas that Chris is focusing heavily on is improving his trad bow skills, because this year he is all in on this style of hunting. So, when it comes to the mental preparation and technique stuff Chris walks us through his training scenarios. Following this discussion, we get into the good stuff. We hear how he is fine tuning, connecting the dots, wind mapping in older and new areas. Setting his expectations for summer cameras, how he strategizes specific scrapes and what he is specifically looking for in scrapes. If you are a continued listener to the podcast you know I love this stuff. We hear stories from specific hunts and a whole lot more from Chris during this episode!  Check it out and let us know what you think! Enjoy this fun episode and see you next week!  Thanks again for all the support and best of luck out there and Antler Up! Thanks again for all the support and best of luck out there and Antler Up!Check out the Sportsmen's Empire Podcast Network for more relevant, outdoor content!
