Jake was born and raised in Northern Canada. Adventurous and inquisitive, he followed his gut to Hawaiʻi for college as a D1 athlete. During his years at Mānoa, he was taken in by a Molokaʻi family which was where his relationship with Axis deer began—over holidays and summer breaks, alongside multi-generational subsistence hunters. Over the years, his fascination and respect for this animal grew and after founding a research-based non-profit, the Axis Deer Institute, he took on several projects managing Hawaiʻiʻs invasive ungulates. Maui Nui grew out of his passion to create a full-bodied solution that saw Hawaiʻiʻs deer as both a non-native species in need of active population management as well as an incredible food resource whose sustainability and viability needed to be ensured in the long term. For Jake, hunting and environmentalism in Hawaiʻi are inseparable parts of the same set of actions and concerns. Jake as always walks us through his life before now. He was a college and professional Volleyball player, went to school in Hawai'i where he quickly put down roots and started his trajectory towards Maui Nui Venison. I met him hunting with some buddies and have been watching his conservation efforts since. He gave us a little insight into his experience since the fires that tore through Maui as well as some community building and service efforts Maui Nui is incorporating. This is a long overdue conversation and we will run it back. Can't wait brother. Yall enjoy and go get some Maui Nui venison.   ORGANIFI GIVEAWAY Keep those reviews coming in! Hunting used to be a sacred practice (and in many parts of the world it still is). However, in the modernized Western world, we've gotten away from the traditional practices around sourcing our own food, which used to be a source of great spiritual and personal growth. We were excited to speak with Mansal Denton about his experience leading hunting trips that brought people back in touch with the sacred elements of hunting:- Building confidence in self- Intimacy with nature- Connecting with food- Healthy relationship with death- Brotherhood and community- Primal masculinityMansal's story beyond hunting is remarkable. As a young man, Mansal ran into trouble with the law and found himself in jail. The time away from society shaped a new perspective on life for the young man, and within the confines of prison Mansal begin to resurrect a brighter future. In our discussion, we talk about masculinity and the cultural significance of rite's of passage. A sacred hunt is a spiritual practice. On the hunt, there's an incredible attunement to the oscillation between masculine and feminine, that occurs in nearly every moment of our lives. It's as much about connecting with the land, and the animal you're hoping to kill, as it is about holding a rifle and learning how to shoot. Kyle Kingsbury introduced me to the experience, and together with a group of my guy friends, we went on a three-day hunt led by today's guest, Mansal Denton, and his two guides. Mansal makes the trip special, starting by writing a love letter to the animal you're going to kill. Many ceremonial elements are threaded throughout, and we came away with an incredible experience. Our guest, here for his second appearance, is Mansal Denton. Mansal is a very unique voice in today's hunting culture, working at the intersection of trans-cultural ceremonial shamanism and hunting, seamlessly blending the two in a program — and brand — he calls Sacred Hunting. Of course, it's not that other hunting isn't sacred, but rather, that often this ancient and fundamentally human part of the hunt is forgotten by our modern culture, in favor of more gear, tech, or trophies. And that works for a lot of people, so we don't say it to take away from the pursuits of others. Rather, we say it to highlight the need many folks feel for a more connected and holistic approach to the hunt, the land, and the animals they harvest. We believe history will record this decade as a pivotal transitional moment in the way humans relate to the land, ecology, and the species we cohabitate with. We suspect, for hunting to have a secure place in our future, we'll need to fundamentally re-order the way we approach it, since many folks today and probably many more tomorrow will struggle to understand hunting culture as it exists right now. We need to be sure that hunting isn't legislated away like some relic of the past but instead remains a living tradition with a place in our new, increasingly complex society. This show has been a small part of a greater shift back towards a more food-centric view of hunting. And of course, in bringing a more holistic ecological perspective too. Mansal's work goes a bit further, reimagining our modern spiritual relationship to the hunt and the animals we pursue. This spiritual approach was, throughout most of human history, inextricable from the hunt itself, which means that today's more secular approach is kind of a radical new experiment in some regards. And we think that has left many would-be-hunters feeling alienated from this really foundational human pursuit. So, while Mansal's approach to hunting might not be for everyone, we think it's a crucial slice of the pie chart that is modern hunting. It's certainly recruiting, retaining, and reactivating certain individuals who've become jaded towards what they perceive as a spiritless hunt. And many of us, even if we don't choose to express it so openly, know, deep down, hunting isn't just a physical experience, it truly is an expression of the spirit. The quality and source of my food has been a top priority for me for many years, but I've always felt a sense of guilt and hypocrisy for the degree to which I was separated from the 'nitty-gritty' of the sacrifices involved in sourcing my food. I've longed for a closer and more considerate relationship to what is required to be provided with the nutrition required to sustain myself optimally. I feel we've haphazardly done away with recognizing the importance of intention and ritual in what has been, and should still be treated as, a sacred affair (taking a life so that I/you may continue yours). As a result, when I was recommended Mansal's book 'Sacred Hunting', I immediately bought and read it. Mansal is bringing back 'the sacred' to our relationship to our sustenance, and in the process, helping people awaken valuable aspects of themselves, and heal others, that have been too-long and detrimentally ignored or suppressed. BenGreenfieldFitness.com/sacredhuntingpodcast My guest on this podcast, Mansal Denton, also known as "Little Beaver", is the founder of Sacred Hunting, host of the Mansal Denton Podcast, and the subject of an upcoming documentary BELOW THE DROP, which explores our relationship to life and death through hunting.  Feeling insecure in early life, he chased a woman to Europe, which led him to prison. Struggling with shame and confusion of what it meant to be a man, he found his calling with the sacred art of hunting. He now desires to share this practice with more men. His indigenous name comes from a Crow Sun Dance chief. His spiritual lineage is derived from six years of mentorship from a Muskogee/Creek medicine man named Will "Star Heart". What is Sacred Hunting? A practice that leads us back to our origins. A reminder that, for our ancestors, obtaining the food that sustains life was a spiritual act involving bloodshed. A reconnection to nature and the earth that gave us birth. An opportunity for connection and tribal brotherhood. A transformative encounter with death. Mansal Denton, like the men he leads on wilderness quests, was raised in a culture alienated from its sources of nourishment and sustenance. A youthful indiscretion that led to a prison cell fundamentally altered his life's trajectory. Here, he shows the power and vitality that the hunt can bring into men's lives in this perilous time, when rites of passage are notably absent. Sacred Hunting brings the richness of his hunting experience, and that of the men whose journeys he facilitates, into inspirational focus. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How a stint in the clink became a rite of passage for Mansal... -Ben's preferred style of hunting and why... -When the hunt took on its sacred form for Mansal... -An insider's look at the sacred hunting experience... -Why it's especially empowering that sacred hunts occur with men only... -How plant medicines can enhance the hunt... -What occurs after the animal is killed... -And much more... In this episode, I go off-grid with Mansal Denton, the founder of Sacred Hunting: an intentional hunter who combines plant medicines and indigenous practices into each hunt.  So many of us have become disconnected from what we consume, becoming all-too-accustomed to buying sterile cuts of meat in plastic, often from questionable sources. My recent voyage with Mansal reclaimed the innate human desire and necessity to live from the earth and interact with life and death with intention and respect. I reflect on my four-day ceremonial hunt and the breadth of emotions, judgments, and fears I faced when killing and skinning a wild boar.  Mansal Denton’s sacred and sensitive vision for hunting, framed by his six-year training with an indigenous Muskogee (Creek) medicine man, shreds any preconceived judgment that hunting is an egotistical expression of toxic masculinity. Are you aware of the dangers of EMF exposure in your home, but have no idea where to start when it comes to finding, and fixing them?  Are you concerned about your exposure to the current 3G, 4G, and 5G wireless networks now activated in most major cities? Have you attempted to test the levels yourself using EMF meters you found online and ended up confused and frustrated? EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies) are one of the most toxic elements in our living and work environments. Due to the technical nature of accurately testing for them—and the training required to do so properly—many of us resign ourselves to the fact that we just have to accept them and the consequences they bring in order to use the modern technology we depend on. But you don’t have to. In this seven-part video documentary series, you will follow world-renowned building biologist Brian Hoyer as he tests an entire home, room by room, to determine the source and level of every known type of EMF. By the end of this series, you will not only be thoroughly educated on the various types and sources of EMF commonly found in homes but also of the many mitigation tools and techniques available thanks to the cutting-edge technologies. We discuss modern societies' relationship with life and death, rites of passage, what a healthy and united masculine and feminine energy looks like, and making hunting a spiritual practice and way to connect us with our ancestors while communing with local ecologies in a symbiotic and mutual beneficial way.

In this powerful conversation, Daniel and Mansal explore their own conscientious approaches to this ancestral practice, Mansal's unique experiences hunting with indigenous peoples, our death-phobic society, and becoming comfortable with mortality. In this episode, Geoffrey Woo speaks with Mansal Denton, the founder of Sacred Hunting, an entrepreneur, author, and explorer of our relationship to life and death through hunting. Mansal is on a fascinating journey — from making an early mistake that landed him in jail to paying his debts to society to being an early thought leader in the nootropics community to now defining "Sacred Hunting" which is his combination of hunting, ancestral tradition, a masculine rite of passage, plant medicine & psychedelics, and spirituality. Struggling with shame and confusion of what it meant to be a man, Mansal found his calling with the sacred art of hunting and desires to share this practice with more men to build confidence, and step into manhood in the path of our ancestors. This is a wide-ranging and interesting philosophical exploration. Enjoy! Mansal Denton isn’t your stereotypical hunter. As you’ll hear about in this episode with Mansal and Dr. Anthony Gustin, he’s not going out to hunt for the thrill of it and he doesn’t treat it like a sport. Instead, Mansal believes in ethical hunting, practicing mindfulness while out there, and tapping into the emotions that come up before, during, and after the hunt. Mansal’s approach resembles that of many indigenous people and Native Americans. And that’s exactly what you’ll hear more about when you tune in. Mansal shares how he went from being a vegetarian for 20 years to practicing this style of hunting. You’ll also learn why he went down this path, why he treats it so differently than most hunters, and why he uses it to tap into his emotions and suggests that more people do it. Mansal also talks about his guided hunting excursions and what he recommends understanding before going out. Mansal breaks down the myth (or rather, puts it in its place) and shares why this applies to your life directly and the tools and tricks to avoid the pitfalls of this kind of thinking.

If psychedelics are one thing we can all agree on, is that it will make a lot of people happy. There's a lot of people who could use a heavy dose of psychedelics to stop being angry. There's something about stepping outside of yourself and even up the reality that comes with these types of experiences that is getting even more useful in a culture that is becoming even more obsessed with the day to day and itself. In this episode of Made You Think, Nat and Mansal Denton talk about Food of the Gods by Terence McKenna. This is a fun book episode about Terence McKenna’s take on psychedelics. First of which is that because mushrooms or “shrooms” basically grow faster in Caledon it leads us to see respect and certain religious adoration towards animals and lastly, that psychedelics are originators of religion. We cover a wide range of topics, including: What are psychedelics and its misconceptions How the society take these substances into account Why animals seem keen into psychedelics How psychedelic substances are lowering the floodgates of one’s experience Terence McKenna’s TWO ideas on psychedelics How religion coincided with psychedelics Mansal’s authentic Ayahuasca experience and the hunt for a good Shaman And much more. Please enjoy, and be sure to grab a copy of Food of the Gods by Terence McKenna! If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to check out our episode on Smoke Signals by Martin A. He has recently left an organization called Nootropedia, where his whole focus was helping people optimize their mental performance using nootropics. He found that some of the best nootropics were psychedelics and from that path he moved into another organization called Oyasin, which is a lifestyle brand reharmonizing people with the natural world. A high-level view of what he's interested right now: he believes that all of the external problems in the world are a manifestation of what's going on in our minds collectively at the society and that psychedelics can be a powerful tool to solve what's going on in our minds. He thinks that transformational or peak experiences are things that we all crave and could help change our perspectives someway. 4:00 - Interesting shift of perspective in society about Psychedelics and plant medicines. “How To Change your Mind” by Michael Pollan is a great influence to this. Some of the kinds of psychedelics are Silicide, Magic Mushrooms, and MDMA for PTSD. It is so compelling and helpful for PTSD. 6:25 - If psychedelics are one thing we can all agree on then it will make a lot of people happy. There's a lot of people who could use a heavy dose of psychedelics to stop being angry. There's something about stepping outside of yourself and even up the reality that comes with this types of experiences that is getting even more useful in a culture that is becoming even more obsessed with the day to day and itself. Imaginary world which is everything in the internet, a reality that doesn’t exist in a physical way. Recreating our relationship with our internal map is something everyone can benefit from, like meditation, like a recognition of something lost. 7:55 - Society's take on psychedelics. Safety and inherent risks with these substances despite its legality in some places. Be smart. In today’s generations, there are negative responses to these plant medicines. War on drugs has done injustice to psychedelics. 10:54 - What kinds of drugs people are comfortable taking and which ones they aren't. Coffee, alcohol, tobacco, and aspirin are drugs all of us use that alter our daily experience. 12:00 - Drugs and hunting. Drugs and animals. Ayahuasca doses given to dogs for more effective hunting today in the jungle. Which plants are mixed with Ayahuasca. There’s an archaeological evidence that people were making ayahuasca thousands of years ago. 14:42 - McKenna’s Hypothesis: hallucinogenic compounds may have actually had influence in developing our own self-reflective abilities. DMT vs LSD trips. Stoned Ape Theory. 18:16 - Brain as primarily a filtering tool. Idea that the brain functions not to understand our environment but to filter out all of the less important noise from The Doors of Perception. Consciousness as a subtractive process, not an additive. Psychedelic substances are lowering the floodgates of one’s experience to open your senses to everything that’s going on in your environment that you’re normally unaware of. Examples: appreciating trees, books you never heard of and hearing it a lot of times after within a week. There is some part of your brain that becomes receptive to that specific thing. 20:57 - Research on the brain about finding truth and logic in certain aspects of life are actually developed more with the intention on how can you create truth to make others believe. Humans are actually social animals. Our brain may not be interpreting actual reality rather it is interpreting reality socially. Elements of stimuli not normally present in our normal consciousness. 22:20 - Why animals seem interested in psychedelics. There’s some element in psychedelics that’s completely pressing reset in our consciousness that almost every species can benefit from. It’s actually an evolutionary disadvantage for animals to be tripping but all animals have habitual patterns which are sometimes helpful and sometimes not. Having these patterns interrupts allowed animals to change habits that proved to be more advantageous. Animals know how to micro-dose psychedelics. The higher the dose of LSD the more tolerant you become. 25:53 - Intention VS. External Environment. Psychedelics can be powerful tools or just for recreational use. Retreats for self-reflection. McKenna says there’s a stigma against taking drugs or substances alone. Respectful use in productive settings and not in rave parties. Taking it on your own makes more valuable experiences. When with somebody, sometimes the ideas come from all over the place and it’s hard to have coherent conversations when you are tripping. It is important to identify what’s the intention to take psychedelics, ex. to escape reality or to explore and reflect or connect. It’s harder to be locked into a monotonous routine that you hate if you’re having these psychedelics driven wake ups every few months. 31:38 - Legal drugs fits in the Dominator Culture. How would work, life, and environment be changed if people had access to psychedelics. We’re seeing it a little bit with Marijuana, as it becomes more and more legalized. It will always depend on the intentions. Stimulants and alcohol fall in the legal drugs category. A lot of these drug compounds create a baseline that is manageable. Psychedelics create peak experiences. There’s so much value in doing both in a regular basis. 34:30 - Why is Nicotine addictive? Nicotine itself is not actually a dangerous chemical, cigarettes are. If you’re smoking pure tobacco, that’s probably safe. Vapes are intense smoking administration method. Nicotine is only addictive when it is combined with MAOI. Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia on MAOI Inhibitors. 39:39 - How people seem to believe that Science and Rationality are the new god. Science is great but incomplete and can get things wrong like drugs with side effects. Drugs that you can do while going to work or do more work are okay while drugs that you would have to relax in the process aren’t okay, for instance, Marijuana. The term “Marijuana”. The propaganda on Mexicans and Blacks liking to get high to not do work and then attack people as racism. 43:07 - Empathy is so heightened in psychedelics - you start to feel this sense of protection for the earth. Michael Pollan’s take on psychedelics relating to modern environmental movement came predominantly out of psychedelic experiences in the 60’s and 70’s. 44:27- Ibogaine experience. Effects of Ibogaine. There are so many great applications of Iboga but high doses can harm the ones with heart conditions. It can cure addiction, like alcoholism, as well. Ayahuasca has similar effects, generally less statistically significant than Iboga. You can find Ayahuasca, LSD or mushrooms even in the US. Iboga it’s not something you mess around with on your own. Where do people do or take Iboga? 48:07 - Mckenna’s Idea that because mushrooms grow faster in Caledon we see respect and certain religious adoration towards cows in some eastern religions. A lot of religious and cultural texts have similarities, plausible stories of psychedelics being involved. Was Jesus the effect of collective consumption of psychedelics? Psychedelics are so mind-altering, great substances to help humans write down the myths. 51:13 - McKenna’s Idea that psychedelics are originators of religion. In doing them, you experience many of the same feelings and sense of connection and visual experiences of some of what you might see in religious texts. Experience on DMT. McKenna says, “God is not an idea. God is a lost continent in the human mind”. Divinity schools will agree that psychedelics can reliably create mystical experiences and connect to a Higher Power. Ayahuasca sessions and spiritual connection. Aztec religion takes Silicide mushrooms as flesh of the Gods. 55:06 - What kind of Higher Power you’re relating with -- Nature, External, or Ephemeral? Spirituality is very personal. You cannot really explain it but just feel it. The importance of doing deep multi-experience retreats is that you get to connect to a higher power. Mansal’s Kundalini yoga experience. Sweat lodge ceremony. 1:00:15 - How to find a good Shaman and the authentic Ayahuasca experience. Mansal’s recommendation is find referrals, but you don’t need necessarily to travel Peru. For newbies, it’s best to take Ayahuasca with a Shaman to keep you safe. In his hunting experiences, Mansal finds it valuable to do psychedelics before & after hunting yet never during the hunting. 1:05:50 - How to get connected with Mansal IG: @mansaldenton and grab Mansal’s email listening to the episode. Power Quotes From The Show "Some of these nootropics can be addictive but just like any tool, they can be abused. You start to realize that anything - it doesn't matter how healthy it is, anything on a physical level can be abused." - @TheHackedMind http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "I've discovered that, just like anything else, nootropics could be used as a tool that's motived by a shadow-based behavior. For example, we have these dark thoughts such as, 'I'm not good enough to do this work that I want to do so I need some sort of stimulant,' or people come to me looking for a magic pill that will help them make more money. I'm not immune to it; I notice that in others and even myself. So, that just really moved me and Nootropedia more in the direction of getting to the root of people's motivations and by shining a spotlight on them to help others determine whether nootropics could be helpful within their lifestyle for achieving whatever goals they have but then what else is useful as well." - Mansal Denton "Most people want stimulants and if you zoom out on our culture as a whole, that makes sense. Adderal and some of these high stimulatory drugs are drugs that improve productivity and proficiency and these are things that we value as a society; especially western and American society which is built very much so on capitalism. So, I think it's a cultural theme and stimulation is a huge factor that people are looking for. Not only that but so many people are doing work that they don't want to do and stimulants come through when people with office jobs just need something to get them through the day."  - Mansal Denton "Every man-made problem in our world - ecological disasters, pollution, or poverty-those are all manifestations of what's collectively going on within our minds. If we can fix the traumas or addictive behaviors, and really come to a place where we love and accept ourselves, we can fix the external problems in this world. I personally believe that psychedelics are one of the most transformative ways to heal ourselves and thereby create change in this world."  - Mansal Denton   Links From Today's Show Mansal Denton Twitter Facebook Instagram LinkedIn Nootropedia Facebook Instagram YouTube A Head Above Documentary A Head Above by Mansal Denton Below The Drop Neurohacker Co-founder Interviewed in New Nootropics Documentary, A Head Above Manna From Heaven by Steve Kubby Qualia from Neurohacker Alpha BRAIN from Onnit The Reality of Truth How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan Stanislav Grof Get Peak Brain Performance with Neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Hill WFR 197 Dr. Daniel Stickler WFR 103 Robb Wolf WFR 096 Daniel Schmachtenberger About Mansal Denton Mansal Denton is a doer and thinker. The best approach for nootropics that I found and I try to impart on people is to think about them as tools where we can go from hopefully 95 to 100% in that range, just being totally optimized in ourselves to 105, 110% using nootropics. So hoping for some small increase above what we’re already capable of as opposed to what many people are drawn towards nootropics for, which is to go from 60, 70% because they got a bad night of sleep, bad diet, drinking alcohol in order to just simply get by or function and I think that taking that approach is really the first step. Affiliate Disclosure About the Guest: Nootropics Expert, Mansal Denton Mansal Denton is an entrepreneur. He has experience in many different ventures, organized a festival, published a book, and a myriad of other projects like donating books to prisoners. At age 20 he was arrested and at 23 sentenced to 8 years in the Texas State Penitentiary. This prison sentence has influenced Mansal’s life tremendously. With these unique life experiences, quirky behavior, and a somewhat arrogant nature, he has been featured on media outlets such as Entrepreneur, Huffington Post, Fox News, and Elite Daily. Mansal Denton is the creator or co-creator of Nootropedia, which is a website that provides unbiased and factual information on nootropics to the extent where it's actually available. He's also the creator of a documentary and a book called A Head Above: A Simple Guide to Peak Mental Performance which Mansal wrote in 30 days. Mansal lived in Switzerland, Poland, but currently resides in Austin, Texas. Disclosure on Nootropics This article and podcast episode do not constitute medical advice. Should you have interest in nootropics, please do your own research and consult your physician. What are Nootropics? The strict definition of nootropics is a synthetic or natural compound that improves markers of cognitive abilities without the risks or significant risk of side effects. Other cognitive enhancers which may have significant side effects are labeled as "Smart Drugs." For the purposes of this discussion, Mansal and I utilize "Nootropics" to describe both Nootropics and Smart Drugs. Non-Nootropic Cognitive Enhancement Intermittent Fasting Increasing one's capability without nootropics is possible. In this discussion, Mansal references intermittent fasting as a method to upregulating brain-derived neurotrophic factor. Mansal employs a fasting technique called 16-8. In this strategy, a person would fast for 16 hours of the day, only having an 8-hour eating window. Additional fasting strategies, such as 3-day water only fasts can be utilized under the supervision of a physician for different results. Deep Work Similar to previous podcast guest Peter Joosten, Mansal often employs "Deep Work."The concept is based largely on Cal Newport's book entitled Deep Work (link below). Mansal defines Deep Work as "uninterrupted work that is 100% free from distraction." Mansal tracks his time religiously. He utilizes earplugs, a specific morning routine, the "Inbox When Ready" app for Google Chrome, a gratitude practice, meditation, and putting his phone in airplane mode to eliminate distraction. Who are Nootropics for? Who are they not for? Nootropics require a solid foundation of health in order to get the maximum benefits. This includes: optimal sleep, solid nutrition, and a reasonable exercise regimen. Once these areas are reached, nootropics may provide additional cognitive enhancement. In the words of many health practitioners, you cannot out-supplement a bad diet. If you are looking for a magic pill (NZT in Bradley Cooper's case), nootropics are not for you. I hope you're sitting down! Today's episode is as interesting as it is powerful.   Mansal Denton is an entrepreneur, published author, and in his early 20s was sentenced to 4 years in the Texas State penitentiary for stealing and selling historical documents from the Mazal Holocaust Library.   “It really is the best thing that ever happened to me and it's really a completely different lens I see life through now.”   In our conversation, Mansal shares how between the ages of 17 and 25, he manages to publish a book about one of his favorite topics, commit a felony to fund his dreams and move to europe, later serve time for this crime, and eventually emerge far happier and wiser than if he'd never been caught.   Now based in Austin Texas, Mansal has run a variety of businesses, and credits much of his fulfillment to the time he spent behind bars. The perspective he gained was priceless.   “There are certain trials in life that people go through and I think oftentimes, especially with middle class and upper-middle class people, people who have a relatively comfortable life don't ever experience that suffering. They don't go through that rite of passage of suffering, and that's really what prison felt like for me.”   Mansal looks at this experience as a rite of passage, and he is a different person now because of it. He has more gratitude and takes greater responsibility for his past and future actions.   “Pushing the boundaries of potential is my why.” I really appreciate Mansal sharing his story so openly with us. We all have dark and light sides to our stories; but when we can use them to fuel a better future and inspire others to do the same, that's when we transcend our transgressions and create a truly bold life.   SOME QUESTIONS I ASK: How did Mansal know how to write a book at the age of 18? What happened? Give us more detail about what happened with stealing the historical documents, how that played out afterwards and how it has impacted where Mansal is now. Was Mansal in court? Mansal had a business launch happen right as he was going to prison? How did Mansal's two businesses play out? Obviously going to prison wasn't on Mansal's life plan. What came out of that experience that he wouldn't trade? When Mansal exits prison, what does life look like? IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN: The breadth of opportunities for creating an online business Mansal's powerful story The importance of undergoing trials How prison made Mansal a better person and entrepreneur Plus much more… DON'T STOP HERE… Guest Links & Resources: Website | Facebook ADDITIONAL RESOURCES: Nootropedia.com Battle for Narva, 1944 by Mansal Denton   Production & Development for The Bold Life Movement Podcast by Podcast Masters

Episode 118: Mansal Denton is the co-founder of Nootropedia (new-trow-picks), which is an unbiased and accessible platform to learn about nootropics and smart drugs. When he isn't improving cognitive function in others, he enjoys a host of active hobbies. He likes jiu-jitsu when his body allows, meditation, and a healthy dose of travel. He enjoys learning lessons whether they come from life experience or books and podcasts. Show notes: How My Insecurities Led Me To Prison by Mansal Denton In Prison I Found My Freedom Through My Personal Discipline Why Mansal stole historical documents in order to visit a woman in Europe How getting arrested changed and challenged him, but how 6 months in prison completely transformed him How "Mans" was the nickname he wanted people to call him so they wouldn't find out about his sentencing His parents' reaction when they found out about his theft The process he took in order to start speaking up, and eventually shouting out, to release shame I share something about my past I've never shared before...(It involves stealing... yup!) The science behind empathy and how people take on others' emotions The beautiful balance between surrendering to what you cannot control, and controlling what you can Discipline that creates SHAME looks like: "I have to do XYZ or I'm not good enough" whereas discipline that creates FREEDOM looks like: "I want to do XYZ because that will get me closer to the person I want to be." How Mansal created discipline and routine in prison (and why he was adamant about sticking to it) Making lists every single day kept him in a creative spurt His desire to keep his body active and moving in prison (with very little outdoor time) The types of food that you have to eat in prison, and how Mansal learned to let go his standards of food The time Mansal had to stand up for himself in prison, and some of the things you have to watch out for Must-read book: Zen Mind Beginner's Mind Connect with Mansal: Website Twitter Facebook [Tweet "If you went to prison, do you think you would leave a better person?
