Spend $3 Billion For Harvard DEI? Or Trade Schools? And Another Victory In The Supreme Court
In this episode, Adam and Dr. Drew kick things off by discussing French President Macron's public slap and how that moment mirrors a broader cultural trend of declining impulse control. They unpack Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett's viral code-switching moment, the new Paul Reubens documentary, and revisit the media-fueled hysteria surrounding homosexuality in the 1980s.Adam shares his optimism over Trump's proposed plan to reallocate a $3 billion endowment toward trade schools, and the guys debate the difference between pushing back on bad ideas and being labeled as “obsessed.” They also explore how narcissism fuels Trump Derangement Syndrome, and why society may be on the brink of what Adam calls a full-blown "borderline era."Thank you for supporting our sponsors:BetOnlinePluto.TvSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Marc & Kim welcome Ryan Wiggins in studio on Tax Day, where he unleashes a blistering critique of the American tax system—from the unfair delays in government refunds to the complex and costly filing process that burdens working Americans. Wiggins highlights staggering wealth disparities, citing data that shows 50% of Americans own zero stock market assets and are drowning in debt. He argues the real fix lies in rebuilding America's workforce by prioritizing trade education over bloated, ideologically driven universities. The crew agrees: skilled trades are becoming the new six-figure path, and conservatives need to lead the charge to shift funding and policy in that direction.
Marc & Kim kick off with FOX 2's Elliot Davis, who reveals an attempt by Board of Aldermen President Megan Green to block him from City Hall after a hard-hitting exposé. Davis exposes the backdoor politics, potential new media restrictions, and questions if Mayor Cara Spencer will really differ from Tishaura Jones. Taxpayers Protection Alliance's David McGarry warns that expiring Trump tax cuts could slam small businesses while D.C. gridlock stalls relief. Ryan Wiggins slams the bloated tax system and calls for trade schools to take center stage over elite universities. Finally, the crew mocks AOC's fake accents and Bernie's socialist sermon at Coachella—while warning that the real Democrat threats are the quiet, polished 2028 contenders.
The amazing people we talked to in the Ivoclar (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us) Ballroom during the 40th anniversary of LMT Lab Day Chicago just keep coming and this week we have a stellar line up. First up is Eric Kukucka. Eric came on the podcast years ago to talk about his multiple denturist practices in Canada. But he has since sold them and has joined the Aspen Dental (https://www.aspendental.com/) group as their Vice President of Clinical Removable Prosthetics & Design Technologies. Eric talks about going from making dentures for hundreds of patients to working with a team to produce quality dentures for millions. Then we chat with Chelsea Homire, who has years of dental assistant experience, but when given the oppritunity to learn the in-office lab work, she took off. With a passion for printing, Chelsea is now teaching other offices (and even a few labs) how they can optimize their digital workflow. We wrap up the episode with Brittany Mitchell. You might know her becuase she designed (and made the denture) on our "Just Say No to Brushing" shirt, but she's also a talented removable technician. Brittany talks about starting in at the front desk, drawing a picture that got notices and placed in the lab, falling in love with it, and making digital dentures for a 12 doctor dental group. Don't miss this incredible webinar with Tanya Little, a dentist from beautiful Vancouver, Canada. We would like to invite you to a special webinar that she's hosting with Ivoclar (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us) and LMT (https://lmtmag.com/) on Wednesday, May 7th, titled "Reflections from a Denturist: 20 Years of Crafting Dentures!". In this program, she will review the incredible history of removables with Ivoclar and focus on the new and exciting evolution based print resin and of course, the PM7. Her goal is to provide you with several key takeaways that will allow you to work smarter and not harder. You can join on May 7th by registering at https://lmtmag.com/webinars/reflections-from-a-denturist-20-years-of-crafting-dentures Are you a dental lab in need of more talent to improve your bottom line and keep production on schedule? Are you a dental tech with great skills but feel you're being limited at your current lab? Well, the answer is here and this is precisely why WIN WIN GO (https://www.winwingo.com/) was created. Want to make bank without the bank breaking you? Anglo-Saxon poetry enthusiast Nick Pell weighs trades against degrees on this week's Skeptical Sunday! On This Week's Skeptical Sunday, We Discuss: While college graduates earn more on average ($77,000/year) compared to trade school graduates ($67,000/year) and high school graduates ($47,000/year), this comes with significant student loan debt — averaging $37,000 for a bachelor's degree. There's a severe shortage of skilled trade workers in America, with examples like a deficit of 500,000 plumbers and an anticipated shortage of 1.9 million manufacturing jobs, suggesting strong job security and demand in these fields. Advanced degrees show diminishing returns — a master's degree costs an average of $65,000 and only provides about a 16% salary increase, while a doctorate costs $127,000 for grad school alone with relatively modest income gains. The college versus trade school decision isn't purely financial — it should factor in personal aptitudes, desired lifestyle, and how someone wants to spend roughly one-third of their adult life working. There are multiple paths to success, and you can make informed choices by: taking a "gap year" to work and explore interests, completing general education requirements at more affordable community colleges, researching program costs versus expected salaries, and considering apprenticeships which have doubled since 2013 and offer paid training opportunities. Matt Mewburn, one of Australia's last blacksmiths, takes you inside the "iron cathedral", where blacksmithing is still very much alive.Matt didn't grow up dreaming of forging knives and sculptures over heat as hot as volcanic lava.He thought he might take over the family farm or become a scientist. But when Matt was 20 years old, his father unexpectedly died, and Matt went looking for a hobby to keep himself distracted through the grief.A spontaneous trip to the local TAFE in Sydney introduced him to the magic of metallurgy and a burning passion was forged for the creativity and simple perfection of smithing.Matt developed his skills in his apprenticeship and then overseas during his so-called Journeyman years, spending time in a seminary in the hills of Tuscany, and in Scotland and Norway. For the last decade, Matt has been the custodian of Australia's largest and most historic rail works in Sydney. This episode of Conversations discusses apprenticeships, trade school, art, death of a parent, grief, origin stories, family dynamics, life story, loss, reflection, death, how to grieve, farming, regional Australia, Eveleigh, Carriage Works, Sydney, Australian history, vocational training, iron ore, steel.
There is a longstanding, widely held belief that the best chance at a better future is to go off to college – especially for people from marginalized communities.Whether it was your teacher, general political rhetoric, or one of many sitcoms that reflect middle class American life, the message was to go to school or risk failure — dismissing millions of people who decided not to go to college and created viable, sustainable careers in trade professions, from manufacturing and welding to plumbing and software engineering. And now, as college costs continue to rise and more people want to develop a sense of financial stability, education and careers in the trades through vocational schools are becoming not only more accepted, but also encouraged across all factors of society. In our latest episode, host Kai Wright talks to Maya Bhattacharjee-Marcantonio, co-founder of The Marcy Lab School in Brooklyn, New York, and Eric Kelderman, a senior writer at the Chronicle of Higher Education about the shifting cultural cachet around earning a 4-year college degree. We talk about what motivates some students to pursue vocational education, what this change might mean long-term for Americans across demographics, and why some still prefer a professional path that includes college.Support of WNYC's coverage of economic mobility and opportunity is provided in part by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
