Fred Astaire in a glass? That's right folks, it's the world's most underrated cocktail, serially disregarded by “serious” drinkers. But not us — not here at Cocktail College! To the Vodka Martini, we're devoting more than an hour of hot takes, technical insight, and cultural analysis with none other than Tony Abou-Ganim. Calling in from Las Vegas, the author of “Vodka Distilled: The Modern Mixologist on Vodka and Vodka Cocktails" teaches us to leave our prejudices at the door and embrace the very spirit of hospitality. Listen on (or read below) to learn Tony's Vodka Martini recipe — and don't forget to like, review, and subscribe! Tony Abou-Ganim's Vodka Martini Recipe Ingredients + Description: Choose your favorite vodka; opt to drink it straight out of the freezer or stirred (or shaken) with ice, and with or without vermouth. Garnish with — you've guessed it — whatever you feel like in the moment. Just make sure the glassware is on point! Nick and Angela welcome DJ, broadcaster, author and one of Nick's superstar friends, Annie MacManus. Annie is a force in the music industry. For seventeen years, she was a pillar of BBC Radio, dedicating each show to championing the best in new music on programmes like Radio 1's Future Sounds, Dance Party and, of course, her Sunday evening show with Grimmy - simply called Nick Grimshaw and Annie Mac. She runs the festival Lost & Found in Malta, and in early 2022, Annie launched her Before Midnight club night, with the aim of providing a more accessible clubbing experience for those who prefer an early night. In 2021, she released her debut novel, the Sunday Times Bestseller Mother Mother, to critical acclaim. Her next novel, The Mess We're in is out in May 2023, and has roots in her own life story. Annie produces her own podcast, Changes with Annie Macmanus, which provides a perfect platform for the trio to discuss their 2023 resolutions. Grimmy serves vodka martinis and Angela prepares a recipe from Nathan Outlaw: scallops with ginger-spiced lemon butter and a side of pickled carrots, paired with a Waitrose Blanc de Noirs Champagne. Nick and Annie reminisce about their wild radio days, Angela exposes Annie's questionable culinary skills and Annie shares what it's like to be a mum to two small boys - doing all of the above... "The names Bond... James Bond."Lines first uttered in 1962 in a small movie called "Dr No". Actor Sean Connery kicked off a movie franchise that would practically invent the action genre. So much so that it would take movie producers until the 1980s to figure out a formula that would force the producers behind Bond to re-invent the character for the modern age. Over nearly a 60 year period. The character of James Bond has been known for its action set pieces, boyish humor, fast cars, beautiful women, and brash attitude.Over the course of this special feature-length episode. Movie fans Ian Cullen and his good friend Ben Cassidy discuss the highs and lows of the Bond movies and even go into gaming territory with a discussion about how the game Goldeneye made the British Super Spy a success with gamers as well as with movie fans.So settle down. Have yourself a Vodka Martini and enjoy the ride as we go through every single Bond movie. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

James Bond might be famous for drinking the Vodka Martini, shaken, not stirred, but his creator Ian Fleming had him drinking way more than that. What else, you may ask? Our guests today hold the answers. Sponsored by Ketel One, I welcomed Mia Johansson, Bobby Hiddleston & Edmund Weil at the second Lush Life Book Club at Oriole Bar in London to discuss their book, Shaken: Drinking with James Bond and Ian Fleming. Mia began her cocktail career in London, working at prestigious venues, including Mark's Bar at Hix with Nick Strangeway and Milk & Honey London. Bobby started his career in Edinburgh working in clubs, and when he moved to London in 2009, he met his business partner and wife, Mia Johannsson. In 2016, they opened Swift Bar in partnership with another industry couple and our guests today Edmund Weil and Rosie Stimpson, and most recently, a second site, Swift Shoreditch. Since entering the industry in 2009, Edmund's bar concepts have been consistently recognised and acclaimed by the drinks industry and public alike, earning multiple accolades and ever-present on the World's 50 Best Bars list. He also writes a regular column for Class Magazine since 2016. Sorry, you couldn't be there, but thrilled I can bring the event to you! Welcome back! I missed you. How did the summer fly away so quickly? Here we are in the middle of September already, but there is so much fun on the horizon. I'm Susan Schwartz, your drinking companion, and this is Lush Life Podcast, where every week we are inspired to live life one cocktail at a time. The most exciting news of the year so far is that I will be live at Oriole, one of the best bars in the world, to launch Lush Life Book Club. Every week during London Cocktail Week, which is actually the entire month of October, we'll be deep-diving into a famous cocktail book and meeting its author or authors for an evening of cocktail history, cocktail recipes, and, most importantly, cocktail drinking. Tuesday, October 5. Jared Brown & Anistatia Miller will join me to discuss The Distiller of London, sponsored by Sipsmith. If there is no distillation, there is no spirit; if there is no spirit, there is no cocktail. Jared is the co-founder and master distiller of Sipsmith, as well as a multi-award-winning drink historian. Anistatia is a multi-award-winning drink historian with 35 years in the publishing industry. I welcome Jared and Anistatia as they guide us through the art of distillation. Wednesday, October 13, I'll be Shaking It Up with Mia Johansson, Bobby Hiddleston & Edmund Weil to discuss their book Shaken: Drinking with James Bond and Ian Fleming, sponsored by Ketel One. Cocktails are at the heart of every James Bond novel, and I am thrilled to be joined by Mia and Bobby of the award-winning London bar, Swift and Edmund, and their business partner and owner of Oriole, to explore more than just the Vodka Martini, shaken, not stirred. Then on Tuesday, October 19 – Olivia Williams, author of Gin Glorious Gin and The Secret Life of the Savoy, is my guest thanks to Bulleit and Kentucky Tourism. The recipe for any cocktail at the American Bar at the Savoy Hotel in London includes a healthy dose of history. Olivia invites us to check into London's most iconic hotel, where she'll guide us through its vibrant history while we sip its most inventive classic cocktails. And if that weren't enough, on Tuesday, October 26, I will be with Jason Clark, author of The Art and Craft of Coffee Cocktails, and Pippa Guy, Let's Get Fizzical, sponsored by Tanqueray. Acting as Brand Ambassador for an iconic spirit is a full-time job. Adding another full-time job on top of that is almost impossible. Our two guests have done just that by creating and writing two esteemed cocktail books. We'll discuss what it takes to venture out and write your own cocktail book. So that's what's on tap for London Cocktail Week. Beginning in a few weeks, the Lush Life Podcast will be coming straight to your ears, plus you can always catch up on everything athttp://alushlifemanual.com/ ( alushlifemanual.com). One way influenza viruses change is called “antigenic drift.” These are small changes (or mutations) in the genes of viruses that can lead to changes in the surface proteins of the virus. The surface proteins of influenza viruses are “antigens,” which means they are recognized by the immune system and are capable of triggering an immune response, including production of antibodies that can block infection. The changes associated with antigenic drift happen continually over time as the virus replicates. Antigenic drift is the main reason why people can get a viral infection from a similar virus (like the flu) more than one time. The other type of change is called “antigenic shift.” Antigenic shift is an abrupt, major change in virus, resulting in new surface proteins in the viruses that infect humans. Shift can result in a new Viral subtype in humans. One way shift can happen is when an influenza virus from an animal population gains the ability to infect humans. When shift happens, most people have little or no immunity against the new virus. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider that virus are co-adapting with its host (US!) None of these facts are in the media or spoken by our so called leaders. We should be studying the strong and healthy and follow their example.

Hazard Pay Continued & Rob's Dirty Tahoe Blue Vodka Martini Recipe

We talk to Sother Teague about his new book I'm Just Here for the Drinks. Sother Teague's first book is informative, entertaining and filled with cocktail recipes. We catch up with him at his book release party at Boilermaker Bar at 1st Avenue and 1st Street. Brian also attended a seminar presented by Marie Brizard and at Employees Only NY and competed in a cocktail competition. Cocktail of the Week:MartiniThe Classic Martini is made with 1 part dry vermouth and 2 parts Gin. It is stirred, not shaken. The classic garnish is olives. Superstition says it should be an ODD number of olives - an even number is bad luck. James Bond orders a "Vodka Martini, shaken not stirred", because that is the exception to the rule. If he just ordered a "Martini" it would be made with Gin and stirred, because that is the classic recipe.Try a great variation on a Martini - 1 part Dry Vermouth, 2 parts Gin a dash of Orange Bitters. Garnish with an Orange Twist. Be sure to use fresh vermouth. Vermouth is aromitized wine and it goes bad after awhile. Keep it in the cooler. The VacuVin wine stopper system will help keep it fresh for longer.

THE GOOD LIFE -- Welcome to ‘The Cocktails of James Bond’ a six-part series on the specific cocktails that James Bond enjoyed. I focused on six signature cocktails that seemed to personify Bond, and also gave an understanding about the world of mixology in general. So here is the first, and possibly the most obvious, The Vodka Martini.
The image for T-bone's Skype profile gets us talking about boobs and defensive eye position (except in water, which is a totally different ball park, of course). For those of you who didn't know the relationship between boobs and predation, you're welcome. In Foody Goody, we present part 3 of round 2 of What Am I Eating (Liquid Edition). See if you can guess what Warren is drinking (and to whom) based on very few audio clues!
