On this episode, Dave covers hot takes on The Temptations to Peter Cetera to Wynona Judd’s “Only Love”. Hot Takes on this episode include: Hot Take 1 - Peter Cetera’s voice in “Glory of Love” really makes the song have a deeper impact.Hot Take 2 - “My Girl” by the Temptations is iconic because you know the song 3 seconds after the song has started. From the bass line to the guitar playing, its so lush and recognizable that it brings life to the song.Hot Take 3 - “Power of Two” by Indigo Girls has such great imagery that takes to you to another level of feeling the intimacy in the song.Hot Take 4 - Wynona Judd’s “Only Love” is a masterclass in songwriting. The chord structures through the song is insanity and so complex.Hot Take 5 - Kate K.S.’s “Waiting” is another song that the musical integrity of the song makes it such a desirable piece of ear candy.

Today's Guest: Christopher Ward, Canada’s first MuchMusic VJ, author, Is This Live? Inside the Wild Early Years of MuchMusic: The Nation's Music Station Watch this exclusive Mr. Media interview with CHRISTOPHER WARD by clicking on the video player above! Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience of Alannah Myles and Bryan Adams impersonators doing “The Safety Dance”… in the NEW new media capital of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida! "Is This Live? Inside the Wild Early Years of MuchMusic: The Nation's Music Station" by Christopher Ward. Order your copy today by clicking on the book cover above! What I don’t know about the Canadian music video scene could fill a half an hour or more… as rock ‘n’ roll historian Christopher Ward is about to discover. Ward has published a charming new oral history of MuchMusic—a Canadian take on MTV for my clueless fellow Americans. The book—Is This Live? Inside the Wild Early Years of MuchMusic, The Nation’s Music Station—takes us behind-the-scenes at the creation of the video music network where the only rule was, “You can do anything you want on air, just don’t spend any money.” CHRISTOPHER WARD podcast excerpt: "Being live at MuchMusic was like improv comedy. People love to see you fail and figure out how you're going to get out of it." Canadian music stars of the 1980s who blew up around the world—thanks in no small part to MuchMusic—included Bryan Adams, Corey Hart and Loverboy. And it also made mostly local guitar heroes out of Platinum Blonde, Gowan, the Spoons and Glass Tiger. Unless you’re a native of the Great White North, you’re probably wondering what Ward’s connection to all this might be, right? Well, he was Canada’s first VJ, or video disc jockey. But unlike their American counterparts who precorded all of their patter between music videos, Ward and his cohorts worked live. Ward got his start as an entertainer as a member of Second City Touring Company, where he became friends with future SNL comedian Mike Myers and was Myers’ sidekick on the original “Wayne’s World” before Dana Carvey brought life to Garth. He has also written songs for Diana Ross, Wynona Judd, The Backstreet Boys and Alannah Myles, for whom he wrote the #1 hit, “Black Velvet.” CHRISTOPHER WARD podcast excerpt: "Mike Myers calls me the 'entertainment survivalist' because we would go on the road together and I was prepared. I would bring a sandwich and I would have cold beer stashed in the van. I was ready to cope. I took pity on him and brought extra sandwich, extra beer, and a splitter for the headphones. And we both loved The Clash." Broadway star Kate Baldwin joins host Robin Milling for Let's Do Lunch! at Village Prime in New York City. On stage at 59 E. 59, Kate gets her honky tonk on as Tammy Trip, a former Nashville Grand Ole Opry queen in Songbird; music and lyrics by Lauren Pritchard. She tells Robin she has never been to Music City but studied Robert Atlman's film 'Nashville' to prepare for the role and read up on famous female country artists like Wynona Judd and being a woman in the world of country music. She reveals her ultimate inspiration for the character looking sinewy and fit was inspired by a pop star. Her country twang came from listening to a playlist of several country singers, and one in particular became her model. At Village Prime, the fresh baked bread on the table was tempting, but Kate abstained as she is keeping her strict carb-free diet that she began with her husband; fellow actor, Graham Rowat, who also got in shape to play a gladiator in A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. A foodie herself, she jokes that they may look great but they're 'exhausted and starving!' She tells Robin how they met during a run of 1776 at the Fords Theater in Washington, D.C. playing Richard Henry Lee and Martha Jefferson. Kate says their four and a half year-old son Colin is an equalizer between career and motherhood. Kate tells Robin her Broadway debut was as a swing in The Full Monty, and then as a dancer in the ensemble of Thoroughly Modern Millie. Learning the line dance in Songbird was plenty for Kate who jokes that she is a 'recovering dancer.' The menu at Village Prime consisted of Pumpkin Bisque soup, Roasted Salmon with Hudson Valley spaghetti squash and artichoke puree, Vegetable Flatbread with grilled seasonal veggies and mozzarella cheese, and Tuna Nicoise with bonito tuna, hard-boiled egg, haricot vert, potato over mixed greens.

Feels Like Now features a collection of original songs that fire on all artistic cylinders, including strong co-writes with Grammy-nominated, Canadian Country Music star and fellow New Brunswicker Chris Cummings, and B.C. Country Music Hall of Fame member and Nashville writer extraordinaire - the late Larry Wayne Clark. The first single Lucky Stars (Biggar/Cummings) features Chris in a guest duet vocal, and the song debuted in the top 100 on the Nielsen BDS Canadian Country radio charts ‘out of the box’, ahead of its commercial release. In 2012, Mike and Larry Wayne Clark’s soul-searching co-write Longing For Home was shortlisted with iconic CURB Records in Nashville to be recorded by country superstar Wynona Judd, further proving Mike Biggar’s capacity as a country music writer destined to be heard.
Chris McHugh is one of THE Top Badasses on the Nashville Scene. While perhaps best known as the longtime Drummer and MD for Keith Urban (10 records and Many Tours), Chris has also recorded with the Who's Who of Nashville; Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood, Billy Ray Cyrus, Alabama, Trace Adkins, Lee Ann Womack, Faith Hill, Toby Keith, Wynona Judd, Kenny Rogers, Amy Grant, LeeAnn Rimes, Brooks and Dunn, Blake Shelton, Rascal Flatts, as well as Peter Cetera, Jewel, Peter Frampton, Aaron Neville, Michael Bolton, Kelly Clarkson, Lionel Richie, etc. Chris was in LA to play a show with Keith Urban when we got together to talk about life in the studio, the business side of gigs, Larrie Londin, and a heaping pile of golden advice from a guy who's seen and done it all. Also, a special guest sits in. Recorded at the Sofitel Hotel, Los Angeles, September 2013
Luke realizes his neighborhood sucks partly because of him, Kanye + New Yorker Cartoons = hilarity (though maybe not on the Imaginary Radio), Jen learns from the wisdom of Wynona Judd, and TBTL is Call-Makers!
