Dr. Richard Nahas practices integrative pain management in Ottawa, using drugs, injections, natural health products, acupuncture, manual therapy, mind-body techniques, nutrition and exercise. After graduating from the University of Toronto's faculty of medicine, he worked as an ER physician until 2004. His work during the SARS epidemic made him aware of what medicine is missing, and this led to a sabbatical to study traditional medicine while backpacking around the world. He has published textbook chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles and national treatment guidelines has participated in international clinical trials and has been an invited speaker at integrative medicine conferences worldwide.Dr. Nahas considers blockages to be the most important missing link in modern medicine. These lesions, which can persist after any injury or trauma, are linked to changes in fascia and the nervous system that create tension, inflammation and stress. He has developed the Seekers Method as a simple self-care and therapy technique, using movement and breath, touch and awareness. Pilot testing has revealed it to be teachable, safe and effective, and his goal is to make treating blockages a part of routine clinical care. He is developing mobile data tools to validate his method, and the BEAM project aims to Bring Evidence to Alternative Medicine by measuring outcomes in people seeking healing outside of guideline-based care.FREE ZOOM ONLINE CONSULTATION CALL WITH DR. One needs to know the history of the patient to treat chronic pain. Doctors should treat the cause, not just the symptoms. - Dr. John HsuDr. Hsu practiced medicine for 28 years as a physician in anesthesia and chronic pain management. In that time, he has learned to think like an addict to ensure a successful therapeutic outcome. After years of standing by to watch the opioid crisis develop into an opioid epidemic, he has now used his intimate knowledge of addiction to develop a solution to securely store, actively control dispensing, and safely dispose of unused opioids. This common sense approach will enforce prescription adherence, prevent diversion, monitor patients for respiratory depression and autonomously call emergency services if respiratory distress is detected. His drive to improve healthcare is based on passion, compassion and hope. Dr. Hsu’s business experience comes from founding 2 companies. Naomi solutions, a software company that produced scalable practice management software integrated with revenue cycle management software (RCM) and Picture Archiving Collection Software (PACS) for physician offices. The other company was Quivivepharma, a drug development company, that formulated a generic opioid and respiratory stimulant combination pill to enhance opioid safety in treating pain. He has 5 USPTO granted patents and has 20 pending patent applications.

William Pawluk, MD, MSc is a holistic doctor near Baltimore, MD. Previous academic positions at Johns Hopkins and University of Maryland. Training: acupuncture, homeopathy, hypnosis, energy medicine, nutrition and bodywork. Considered the foremost authority on the use of Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy in North America. Interested in holistic pain management, sleep, anxiety, anti-aging and general health. He is interested in new solutions to stubborn, chronic and frustrating health problems. He wants to try to resolve the cause of the problem and not to simply put a Band-Aid on it. For example, most conventional treatments for pain rely on “numbing and dumbing,” that simply make the perception of pain better but don’t heal the cause. When on the Dr. Oz show, they both agreed that pain management should be focused on healing the cause. After 25 years of seeing the risks and side effects of traditional approaches, and studying various healing approaches, he discovered that PEMFs provide the most benefit and allowed safe, non-toxic, self-directed, self-controlled, at-home pain management. To this end, he has worked with magnetic field therapies for 30 years and established an authoritative website www.DrPawluk.com. He is author of a comprehensive book on healing with magnetic fields called “Power Tools for Health.” This book describes what magnetic fields are, over 25 actions of magnetic fields in the body, how they work for over 50 health conditions, how to get a PEMF device for yourself and how to use it. This book is supported by over 500 scientific references and is the most authoritative, yet readable, book on the topic available to date. To help promote this healing concept, he has well over 50 radio, podcast, magazine and TV interviews combined. He has also been a cohost of a 2 hour holistic health radio show in Baltimore for 10 years. Most recently he hosted the Pain Solution Summit interviewing more than 30 experts on helping people with chronic pain.

"The best lessons I have learned is that the intensity of my pain depends on me, my thoughts, and my actions. The other important lesson is that I can turn down the intensity of my pain with calm, quiet breaths and muscle relaxation." - Heather DivineHeather Divine graduated from the Misericordia School of Nursing in Edmonton, Alberta in 1974 and worked as an operating room nurse until May 31, 1991, when persistent pain forced her from the workforce.Very soon after that, I met with another person who had lived with pain for over 25 years and she was fasting with the intent to die. My pain doctor asked me if I would go and talk with her and talk about living with pain. I stopped by her home and began by talking about my own fears and thoughts and how scared I was to face the rest of my life with pain. We talked and laughed and cried for a few hours and at the end of my visit, she changed her mind about wanting to die. I asked her what had made such a difference and she told me “this is the first time since my pain started that somebody understood”. We started a support group together and this was the beginning of new meaning and purpose in my life.Over the past 30 years, I have continued on this path supporting people, and their families, who lived with persistent pain.I was the president of the Chronic Pain Association of Canada for about 18 years.Represented people who lived with pain on many committees, initiatives, and projects.I took the Chronic Pain Self-management 6 week program and then became a leader.I was one of the founding board members of Pain BC.I worked with British Columbia’s Practise Support Program and spoke at many local community’s pain management development meetings. In 2011 I founded People in Pain Network to establish local community pain self-management education and support (PSMES) groups across Canada. With all the other work I had been involved with, it was clear that people who lived with pain needed ongoing education and support with the primary focus of learning to live well with their pain. One of the most valuable benefit of our groups is that people living with persistent pain are heard and understood. They have a safe place to share the struggles and solutions and be supported as they build a new normal.o The website has resources, recorded webinars, presentations, links to other resources and organizations, and of course, links to all the PSMES groups. The website is People in Pain Network https://www.pipain.com/.As the years went by, I learned, the hard way, how to pace, how to pay attention to my pain, and to understand that my pain is my protector and when I “listen” when it suggests that I change my behaviour and my actions, the “voice” of my pain becomes softer. When I ignore my pain, it will soon shout as loud as it needs to make me listen. The best lessons I have learned is that the intensity of my pain depends on me, my thoughts, and my actions. The other important lesson is that I can turn down the intensity of my pain with calm, quiet breathes, and muscle relaxation.I realized a few years ago that if I see my healthcare provider for 20 minutes a month, the remaining 43,180 minutes every month are mine to self-manage. Pain impacts our body, mind, spirit, and environment. Start with the area that means the most to you and keep going. Our Canadian Adult and Youth Pain Toolkits (free on our website) are good places to start to learn more about self-management skills.
