In this episode, Dr. Carol McMakin and Kim Pittis discuss Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) protocols for treating nerve pain, including post-herpetic neuralgia and ataxia. They explain the mechanisms behind nerve inflammation, polarization, and scarring, and shares case studies demonstrating effective FSM treatments. The conversation covers topics such as treating the psoas muscle, addressing ticklishness, and managing complex neurological cases. Dr. McMakin also provides insights on using FSM for patients with cancer and emphasizes the importance of comprehensive assessments in identifying the root causes of pain. 01:13 Understanding Voltage-Gated Ion Channels 02:42 FSM and Nerve Pain Treatment 05:59 Case Study: Cavernous Hemangioma 07:42 Nerve Pain Treatment Insights 12:03 Treating the psoas Muscle 17:04 Scarring and Tissue Treatment 18:14 Case Study: Knee Pain Post-Surgery 23:14 Holistic Approach to Pain Treatment 28:12 Addressing Ticklishness in Treatment 30:23 Nerve Inflammation and Pain Management 34:18 Case Study: Ataxic Gait and Neurological Concerns 42:02 Chronic Conditions and Treatment Approaches 47:08 Treating Cancer Patients: Guidelines and Considerations 50:04 Upcoming Courses and Final Thoughts As medical practitioners, it's crucial to constantly refine our approaches to treating conditions like nerve pain, ataxia, and other related dysfunctions. In a recent episode of the Frequency Specific Microcurrent podcast, various experts, including Dr. Carol and Kim Pittis, shared valuable insights that can benefit practitioners seeking to enhance their understanding of nerve-related treatments. Understanding Nerve Pain and Treatment Modalities Dr. Carol emphasizes the complexities of nerve pain treatment, explaining how conditions like postherpetic neuralgia and traction injuries can influence nerve function. Practitioners are encouraged to consider the underlying causes of nerve numbness or hypersensitivity. Dr. Carol suggests the combination of polarizing frequencies and specific microcurrent protocols to address these issues effectively. One primary focus is on using combinations such as 40 Hz and 396 Hz to alleviate inflammation and enhance nerve conductivity. Complementing this approach, Dr. Carol underscores the importance of addressing the surrounding scar tissue, often by applying frequencies such as 13 Hz to reduce adhesions and further alleviate nerve discomfort. Techniques for Addressing Complex Cases Throughout the podcast, both Dr. Carol and Kim Pittis share personal case studies to illustrate treatment strategies. For instance, Dr. Carol describes a particular case wherein a patient developed knee pain post-tummy tuck procedure. Here, the importance of a holistic approach is evident. Realigning the patella and addressing underlying scar tissues from the surgery was pivotal. Additionally, careful inquiry into the patient's history—identifying past surgical or traumatic events—can help in piecing together effective treatment plans. Addressing Ataxia and the Importance of Neurological Assessments In discussing ataxia—an often misunderstood and misdiagnosed condition—Dr. Carol stresses the potential need for thorough assessments beyond standard examinations. She shares anecdotal experiences highlighting that an ataxic gait may stem from spinal, rather than purely cerebral, origins. This revelation points medical practitioners toward the need for detailed diagnostics, including MRI assessments of both the brain and spinal regions. Promoting Safe and Effective Treatment Environments Kim Pittis touches on the critical aspect of patient safety and comfort. Ensuring the nervous system perceives treatment interventions as safe is paramount for achieving lasting results. Furthermore, practitioners are encouraged to adopt a patient-centered approach, considering the individual experiences of pain and discomfort and adjusting treatment protocols accordingly.

OKYO Pharma Ltd CEO Gary Jacobs joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share additional key findings from the Phase 2 clinical trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of OK-101 (0.05%) ophthalmic solution in patients with dry eye disease (DED). This trial involved 240 patients in a randomized, double-masked, placebo-controlled study. OK-101, developed using a membrane-anchored-peptide technology, is a novel long-acting drug candidate designed to treat dry eye disease. It has shown anti-inflammatory and pain-reducing efficacy in mouse models of dry eye disease and corneal neuropathic pain. Jacobs highlighted that the findings include a statistically significant and durable reduction in ocular pain and a statistically significant improvement in Tear Film Break-Up Time throughout the study, which is a clinically important endpoint. Additionally, multiple symptomatic improvements were observed through both data obtained from patient clinic visits and daily symptom diaries. Jacob explained that OK-101 targets a receptor called Chemerin 23, present on both immune and nerve cells, including those in the spinal cord and ocular nerves. Preclinical animal studies indicated that OK-101 could reduce neuropathic pain, which can be particularly severe and debilitating in affected patients. The company is preparing to launch a Phase II trial for OK-101 specifically targeting neuropathic corneal pain. This trial will be a placebo-controlled, randomized study involving 48 patients diagnosed with ocular nerve damage through confocal microscopy, with top-line data anticipated by mid-2025.The significance of this development is underscored by the lack of FDA-approved treatments for neuropathic corneal pain, a condition recognised by the National Organization of Rare Diseases. The upcoming trial aims to fill this therapeutic gap, potentially offering relief to patients suffering from this excruciating condition. #proactieinvestors #okyopharmalimited #nasdaq #okyo #GaryJacob, #DryEyeDisease, #OK101, #ClinicalTrials, #NeuropathicPain, #OcularHealth, #PharmaceuticalResearch, #FDAApproval, #MedicalInnovation, #HealthUpdates, #BiotechNews, #PatientCare, #PhaseIITrail, #TopLineData, #Chemerin23, #NerveDamage, #RareDiseases, #PlaceboControlled, #EyeResearch#invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

As the body adjusts to the growing fetus, many women experience back pain, which can be exacerbated for working mothers who spend long hours sitting at a desk. In this article, we will explore ways to care for pregnancy-related back pain for working mothers.Pregnancy-related back pain is a common complaint among women. The physical changes that occur during pregnancy can put a strain on the back, causing discomfort and pain. Some of the factors that contribute to pregnancy-related back pain include:Weight gain: As the fetus grows, so does the mother's weight, which can put pressure on the back and cause pain.Posture changes: As the body adjusts to the growing fetus, the center of gravity shifts, and the mother's posture may change, leading to strain on the back.Hormones: During pregnancy, hormones are released that cause the ligaments and joints in the pelvis to relax, which can also lead to back pain.Stress: The emotional and physical stress of pregnancy can cause tension in the back muscles, leading to pain..If you are pregnant and experiencing pelvic and back pain symptoms call 203-656-3636Core Health Darien551 Post RoadDarien CT 06820203-656-3636This podcast welcomes your feedback here are several ways to reach out to me. What To Expect As A New Patient At Premier Pain Treatment Institute This is a special bonus episode with Dr. Michael Danko; He shares what to expect when you come to the Pain Management Clinic when you come in for your new patient appointment. Tune in now. Episode Highlights: The first thing is getting a referral from your referring provider. The new patient scheduler calls to get you scheduled once that is received. Insurance verification happens prior to the first appointment and verify benefits. There are three office locations: Loveland, OH, Mt. Orb, Ohio, and Hillsboro, OH. Your first time in the clinic you are asked to come 30 minutes earlier to get everything ready, complete a new patient packet and turn in any imaging or previous records.  If you are intending to have medication management, you will have to do a urine drug screening; If not, that may be bypassed. Vital signs will be recorded and then the pain management provider will come in to discuss your concerns with you. Your pain management provider will narrow down your symptoms and correlate with the physical exam findings. Reviewing the images will help narrow down further where the pain is coming from. If physical therapy is needed, they will get that initiated. If you are at the point of surgery, they will recommend and refer that as well. Most often there are a variety of options; The pain care providers are very thoughtful in constructing a full care plan.   Resources Mentioned: https://premierpaintreatment.com/ https://premierpaintreatment.com/locations/ https://www.facebook.com/PremierPainTreatment/ Call the office at 513-454-7246

Rajam Roose, a massage therapist and founder of the San Diego Pain Summit, comes onto the HET Podcast to speak about her interest in pain treatment and research, as well as, explain how she was able to bring her dream conference to fruition. Biography: In 2014, Rajam Roose (a massage therapist with an interest in pain treatment and research) was organizing interdisciplinary continuing education workshops for manual and physical therapists in San Diego. During a break at one workshop, she overheard the instructor asking the participants if they were learning current pain research in their programs. If they were familiar with pain research experts such as Patrick Wall, David Butler, Lorimer Moseley, etc. The students nodded their heads, and one spoke out and replied: "Yes, we were taught current pain research at my school but I have no idea how to apply it into my practice."  Rajam realized there needed to be an event where participants could learn clinical applications of pain research that would be directly relevant to their work. Without any prior experience organizing or managing a conference, Rajam created this multidisciplinary pain management conference and found success from the start. Over the years, the San Diego Pain Summit has evolved into an event where clinicians learn how to have a person-centered practice. View the historical list of all speakers/presentations. The San Diego Pain Summit is on a mission to change how pain is managed and treated in the healthcare industry by organizing conferences and workshops where clinicians can learn up to date pain education and research. The Summit also includes voices representing the patient's lived experience, which is an integral part of creating person centered care.

In this Weekend Rant edition of the Colorado Switchblade's podcast. We talk about how the CDC just Friday released the revised and expanded pain treatment guidelines that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published that mention "patient abandonment" eight times. They also include two occurrences of this warning, in bold and italics: "Clinicians should not abandon patients."This should give you a sense of the nightmarish impact of the original version of the CDC's advice, published in 2016, on medical care for chronic pain patients. Things have gone terribly wrong when medical professionals have to be reminded that they should not abandon patients. The CDC's acknowledgment of these issues signals its willingness to address the needless suffering caused by the 2016 guidelines, which resulted in undertreatment, reckless "tapering" of pain medication, denial of care, and procrustean policies that prioritize reductions in opioid prescribing over the interests of patients. This is a very personal story to me—One that has had devastating effects on my entire family. You will hear why in the podcast. In the podcast, I reference an article in Reason Magazine you can read here. This is a topic I will continue to cover in the future.
