Hillel Korin is the President of Korin Development Associates. His work has focused on serving the Jewish Community most recently through coaching, and consulting to mid-sized organizations. His career has spanned over five decades. Korin's fundraising expertise has benefited Jewish federations, synagogues, universities, independent schools and cultural arts and a variety of community organizations in the United States and Israel. During his career, he has worked on board development projects and coaching senior volunteer and professional leadership.Mr. Korin received his undergraduate degree from Brandeis University he and his graduate education at the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles, Zelikow School of Jewish Communal Service. He was awarded an honorary degree by HUC in recognition of his outstanding service to the field in 2001. Korin is a certified Quadrant 3 Leadership Coach with a particular interest in strengthening the development practices of directors of development and the organizations they lead.A resident of Phoenix, Arizona he has served on several nonprofit boards, including Jewish Major Leaguers Inc., The American Jewish Committee, The New England Aquarium, Hillel Foundation at Brandeis University, Friends of Brandeis Athletics. He graduated from Princeton University in 1991 and was ordained as a rabbi by the Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion in 1998. He trained as a Jewish educator at HUC's Los Angeles campus, where he received a M.A. in Jewish Education. He served Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills, Calif., as a rabbi and educator for 11 years, until moving to Israel with his family in 2009 to become the director of HUC's Year-in-Israel program. In addition to overall management of the graduate level program, he served as an instructor in Jewish Liturgy. Rabbi Yoshi came to Wise in 2012 as the Head of School at Wise School and was named the third Senior Rabbi of Stephen Wise Temple in 2015. Rabbi Yoshi is a lecturer at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles, and a Senior Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. He is also the volunteer Executive Director and Founder of Kavod, a non-profit tzedakah collective which is dedicated to protecting human dignity. Rabbi Yoshi is also an author, musician and composer. His publications include the teacher's guide to Shalom Ivrit II; Day of Days; and Days of Wonder, Nights of Peace: Family Prayers in Song for Morning and Bedtime. As part of Mah Tovu, he has released three albums, published two books, and performed across the United States. The flag was intended to be a distress signal following the conflict. Alito has also been criticized by the left for having flown an “Appeal to Heaven” flag from his shore house in New Jersey—with the left arguing it's an insurrectionist symbol. However, the flag is associated with George Washington and John Locke and remains the official maritime flag of Massachusetts. There are not enough rabbis to serve the congregations that need them. In Rabbi Chiel's day, the Seminary ordained 60 rabbis a year. In my day, 35 rabbis a year. Today, between LA and New York, the Seminary and Ziegler ordain 12. Ziegler sold its campus and its few rabbinical students meet in the religious school classroom of a local synagogue. So too HUC is ordaining fewer and fewer rabbis, as a result of which it closed its Cincinnati location, its flagship since 1875. What does the great rabbi shortage mean for American Judaism? Shira Telushkin opens with a congregation that simply could not find a rabbi and, after some time, was reduced to getting a rabbi that would do fee for service, officiating at Shabbat and holiday services, paid by the service, but not being a pastor or otherwise involved in the leadership of the synagogue. Shira Telushkin treats the great rabbi shortage as a symptom of a systemic change. Something is going on here. Deeper trends are at play. What is her analysis? Do you agree with her assessment? C'est pourquoi il est impératif de soutenir la nécessité d'aider les plus démunis à nourrir et soigner leurs animaux. Car les animaux sont tout aussi vulnérables que leurs propriétaires. Ils ont besoin de nourriture, d'eau, de soins médicaux, et d'un abri. "On leur donne des croquettes, des couvertures, du matériel, mais on leur offre aussi un lien social. On parle beaucoup avec eux et on les oriente dans la mesure du possible" explique Aurélie Huc. La présence d'animaux de compagnie peut apporter une lueur d'espoir aux personnes sans abri. Elle peut aider à réduire leur isolement social et à maintenir un sentiment de dignité. Les animaux fournissent une source de réconfort émotionnel et de motivation pour leurs propriétaires. En soutenant les sans-abris dans leurs efforts pour prendre soin de leurs animaux, nous contribuons à renforcer leur résilience et leur capacité à surmonter l'adversité. Reste que les croquettes sont souvent hors de prix. heureusement, l'association bénéficient de dons de la part de magasins, de grossistes, de marques. "Les dons en nature sont défiscalisés car notre association est d'intérêt général. On récolte aussi des dons en argent car nous soignons aussi les animaux. Et les frais vétérinaires sont très coûteux". Mais l'association apporte aussi une attention toute particulière aux « chats des rues ». "Notre objectif est, entre autres, d'accompagner les communes dans des campagnes de stérilisation afin de limiter la prolifération des chats errants. Nous militons en outre pour que les chats les plus sauvages puissent devenir des « chats libres », c'est-à-dire rester en liberté, mais sur un site sécurisé où ils sont nourris régulièrement" explique Aurélie. L'association Sans Croquettes Fixes a notamment vocation à aider les SDF à nourrir leurs animaux. Mais aussi à les soigner... Yüce Allâh, Habîbi (s.a.v.)'e gösterilmesi gereken saygıyı anlatırken detaya kadar inerek şöyle buyurur: “Ey imân edenler! Seslerinizi, Peygamber'in sesinin üstüne yükseltmeyin, birbirinizle yüksek sesle konuştuğunuz gibi onunla da öyle yüksek sesle konuşmayın. Yoksa siz farkında olmadan amelleriniz boşa gider. Allâh'ın elçisinin huzurunda seslerini kısanlar ise öyle kimselerdir ki, Allâh onların kalplerini, takvâ için imtihân etmiş, onların takvâya ehil olduklarını anlamıştır. Onlar için mağfiret ve büyük mükâfât vardır. Ey Peygamber! Odalarının arkasından sana bağıranların çokları, düşüncesiz kimselerdir. Onlar, sen kendilerinin yanına çıkıncaya kadar bekleselerdi kendileri için elbette daha iyi olurdu. Allâh çok bağışlayan, çok esirgeyendir.” (Hucûrat s. 2-5) Görüldüğü gibi Yüce Allâh bu âyetlerde de onun huzurunda onun ses tonundan daha yüksek bir sesle konuşulmaması gerektiğini bildirmiş; aksi takdirde yapılan bütün amellerin farkında olunmadan bir anda boşa gideceğini haber vermiştir. Bu âyetlerin inmesinden sonra Ashâb (r.a.e.)'in ikinci âyette sözü edilen imtihândan başarı ile geçmek için bu hususa çok dikkat ettikleri ve bu emirleri hassasiyetle uyguladıkları bir gerçektir. Meselâ tefsîrlerde bu âyetin inmesinden sonra Hz. Ebû Bekir ve Hz. Ömer (r.a.e.)'in Resûlullâh (s.a.v.)'in huzurunda çok alçak sesle konuştukları belirtilmiş; yaratılıştan yüksek bir ses tonuna sahip olan Sabit b. Kays (r.a.) ise bu âyetin inmesinden sonra “Ben cehennem ehlindenim.” deyip evinden çıkmamış; bunu duyan Resûlullâh (s.a.v.), ses tonunun yaratılıştan yüksek olması sebebi ile kendisinin bu hükmün kapsamına girmediğini belirterek onu teselli etmişlerdir. Yukarıda âyetlerde de Yüce Allâh, Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.)'i yüksek sesle çağırmanın yanlış olduğunu beyân etmektedir. Türbe-i Saâdet'lerinde de sesimizi yükseltmekten ve edebe aykırı her türlü davranıştan kaçınmalıyız! (Diyânet İlmî Dergi, Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.) Özel Sayısı, 2003, s.477)

Nebî (s.a.v.)'e gösterilecek saygı konusunda bir misâl de bizzat Yüce Allah'ın Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.)'e Kur'ân'da hiçbir yerde ismi ile hitâb etmemiş olmasıdır. Diğer peygamberlere (a.s.e.) isimleri ile hitâb bulunan pek çok âyet-i kerîme olmasına rağmen, Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.) için kullanılan hitâblar “Ey Peygamber, Ey Resûl!” gibi hitâblardır. Bu durum bile Allâhü Teâlâ'nın Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.)'e ayrı bir değer verdiğini göstermektedir. “Ey îmân edenler! Allâh ve Resûlü'nün önüne geçmeyin, Allâh'dan korkun. Şüphesiz ki Allâh her şeyi işiten ve her şeyi bilendir.” (Hucûrat s. 1) Görüldüğü gibi, Yüce Allâh, Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.)'e itaat ve saygıda bu kadar detaya inmiş, onun önüne geçilmemesini istemiştir. Onun önüne geçmemekten kasıt da elbette hem söz ve hem de fiil olarak onun önüne geçmemektir. Bu bakımdan bu yasağa söz gelimi onun bulunduğu bir mecliste ortaya çıkan bir probleme ondan önce cevap vermeye kalkışmaktan tutun da, onunla birlikte yolda giderken bir izin veya işâret olmaksızın onun önünden yürümek veya sofrada ondan önce yemeğe başlamak gibi her türlü eylem ve söz girmektedir. Şu anda da mânevî hayat ile sağ olduklarından, Türbe-i Saâdetleri'ne gidip huzurlarına varıldığında da kendilerine asla sırt dönülmemelidir. Yüce Allâh'ın insanlara kendi içlerinden birisini misâl seçerek peygamber göndermesi onlar için büyük bir lütûftur. O (c.c.)'un bütün insanlar için seçip gönderdiği son elçi Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.)'dir. O (s.a.v.)'e inanmak sadece onun peygamberlerden bir peygamber olduğunu kabul etmek demek olmayıp, onu samîmi olarak sevip ona ta'zîm etmek de gerekir. In this episode of AUHSD Future Talks, Superintendent Matsuda interviews the CEO of the OC Jewish Federation Erik Ludwig and Chief Impact Officer Lisa Armony. Mr. Ludwig has served as a Jewish communal professional for the past 20 years and brings a wealth of experience, strategic vision, and deep communal relationships to this role. He is recognized as one of the Jewish community's most innovative and entrepreneurial leaders with a strong record of spearheading organizational change within mature organizations. His strengths were most recently demonstrated during his seven-year tenure as Director of the Zelikow School of Jewish Nonprofit Management at Hebrew Union College where he oversaw the school's revitalization and growth. Among his numerous accomplishments, he tripled student enrollment by redesigning core academic programs to meet the needs of students in a rapidly changing Jewish professional ecosystem, and significantly grew the school's organizational capacity through increased philanthropy. Prior to his role at HUC, Mr. Ludwig served as Chief Operating Officer at Upstart Bay Area. He currently serves on the advisory council of IsraAID US and on the advisory board of Jewish Interactive.  Ms. Armony served in strategic planning, educational and communications positions for Jewish organizations in Toronto, Canada and the U.S.  As Rose Project Director, she has been instrumental in implementing strategies that create a more civil campus climate for Jewish students on Orange County college campuses, spearheading efforts that create learning opportunities about Israel, empower Jewish student leaders, and support Jewish campus organizations. In 2015, she launched an experiential learning journey to Israel and the Palestinian Authority for diverse student leaders seeking to explore the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  That program has been scaled to dozens of college campuses throughout the U.S. and Europe. She has also developed a variety of community education programs on Jewish identity, Israel and antisemitism, including an educational platform for teens that supports leadership development and counters bigotry and antisemitism in the greater Orange County community. As Chief Impact Officer, she oversees Federation's strategic planning and granting and works closely with Community Partners to support community development and growth.

In celebration of Nowruz, the Persian New Year, Rabbi Yoshi Zweiback welcomes the first female native Farsi speaker to become a rabbi, Rabbi Tarlan Rabizadeh.A leader, a brilliant educator, and a trailblazer as a Persian female rabbi,  Rabbi Rabizadeh began both her educational and professional journey at Wise. The daughter of Iranian immigrants, she grew up at what was then Stephen S. Wise Temple Elementary School. When she matriculated across the freeway to Milken Community High School, she was unsure of what she wanted to do with her life. She was good at art, but didn't want to be an artist. Her parents wanted her to go to law school, but she didn't want to be a lawyer.At the age of 15, though, she took a class with Rabbi Sharon Brous. Inspired by Rabbi Brous's patient, thoughtful approach to Jewish studies and Jewish education, she decided then and there that she wanted to join the rabbinate."I wanted to do something with my life that made my brain grow," Rabbi Rabizadeh said. "In that moment ... she made me realize there was so much more than I ever knew about Judaism. That's when I knew I wanted to become a rabbi. When I told my parents, they nearly fainted. It was just not an option."She began by teaching religious school at Stephen Wise Temple on Sundays under Rabbi Melissa Buyer."She was the one who said, 'Tarlan, I see potential in you. You should do this full force, and apply to Hebrew Union College,'" Rabbi Rabizadeh said. "I told her, 'There's no way. My parents aren't on board.'"There was, however, a full-tuition scholarship for students who wanted to become Jewish educators, Rabbi Buyer told her. It was at HUC, in 2010, that a young Tarlan Rabizadeh met Rabbi Yoshi Zweiback, and the two have remained friends ever since.Rabbi Rabizadeh was ordained at HUC-JIR, worked as a Jewish Emergent Network Fellow at The Kitchen in San Francisco, taught at Milken, and now, serves as the Director of Student Life at UCLA Hillel.

Su práctica artística profundiza en temas como el borde, la frontera y la hibridación. Emilia Martín determina que en toda su obra «hay un extrañamiento por la naturalización y asimilación de la idea de frontera; hay una voluntad de mantenerme sorprendida por la enorme distancia que llegan a tomar las abstracciones y los conceptos con que pensamos la vida, con respecto a la experiencia de vivir y a la dinámica de la vida misma». En las figuras de “membrana” y “borde”, que forman parte del título de la exposición, Emilia Martín encuentra características que le sirven tanto para construir una mirada sobre las cosas, como para re-presentarlas visualmente. La artista plantea que «la imagen, lo visual, produce su propio discurso, y gracias a ello los temas, aquello de lo que hablamos, pueden diluirse, hibridarse y desactivarse para representarse (generando mirada y realidad)». Su trabajo artístico se caracteriza por la superposición de capas, de diversos materiales, que hibridan lo fotográfico con lo pictórico, lo pictórico con lo instalativo y lo narrativo con lo sensorial. La artista comenta que este proceso viene inspirado «en el comportamiento de un fenómeno natural: el agua, la arena en la orilla del mar, en la playa, en la costa, ese lugar que, visto desde la mirada lejana y cenital, es un dibujo quieto y definido, dando lugar al mapa, pero que experimentado, habitando la orilla, permite pisar agua y arena a la vez; es decir, vivenciado es dinámico, ambiguo, difuso, simultáneo e indefinido». Emilia Martín explica que «El subtítulo de esta exposición, Pasear por el borde, alude a ese espacio, junto a la línea límite o frontera, donde las cosas están a punto de ser otras – pintura o fotografía, legal o ilegal, nosotros o ellos- y también al deseo de diluir la definición, en varios sentidos».

Rabbi Denise L. Eger is an international Jewish leader and social justice activist. She is the founding rabbi of Congregation Kol Ami, in West Hollywood, CA. She is Past President of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, the international organization of over 2300 Reform Rabbis. She served as the first openly gay or lesbian person in that position. She also was the first woman ever elected as President of the Southern California Board of Rabbis which includes Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist and Orthodox Rabbis. Rabbi Eger is the editor of the ground breaking book, Mishkan Ga’avah: Where Pride Dwells: A Celebration of LGBTQ Jewish Life and Ritual (CCAR PRESS, 2020). This collection of LGBTQ prayers, poems, liturgy, and rituals is both a spiritual resource and a celebratory affirmation of Jewish diversity. Giving voice to the private and public sectors of queer Jewish experience and allies. She also wrote a companion study guide for this book. Rabbi Eger is also the co-editor of Gender and Religious Leadership: Woman Rabbis Pastors and Ministers (Rowman and Littlfield, 2019). This volume analyzes historical and recent developments in female religious leadership and the larger issues shaping the scholarly debate at the intersection of gender and religious studies. Eger was named as one of the 50 most influential Jews by the Jewish Daily Forward and one of the 50 most influential women rabbis. In October 2011 Rabbi Eger was one of the Gay Icons of Equality Forum’s LGBT History Month. Huffington Post named her as the #1 LGBT Clergy Person in America. Most recently recognized for her activism by the City of Los Angeles as a trailblazer, she has won numerous awards for her leadership from the Human Rights Campaign, the City of West Hollywood, the California State Senate and State Assembly. Rabbi Eger also coaches non-profit executives and clergy through her company ReZilience Strategies. Raised in Memphis, TN, Rabbi Eger graduated with honors from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor’s Degree in Religion in 1982. She received her Master’s Degree from Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in 1985 and was ordained as Rabbi in 1988 at the New York campus of HUC. She received her Doctor of Divinity in 2013 from HUC-JIR. Eger is a Sr. Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. This episode of the College Commons Podcast explores how music can be a powerful tool for bringing people together, and examines empathy's role in the core of Judaism. Senior Rabbi at Stephen Wise Temple, Yoshi Zweiback was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from Princeton University in 1991 and was ordained as a Rabbi by the Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion in 1998. He trained as a Jewish Educator at HUC’s Los Angeles campus, where he received a M.A. in Jewish Education. He served Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills, California, as Rabbi and educator for eleven years, until moving to Israel with his family in 2009 to become the Director of HUC’s Year-in-Israel program. In addition to overall management of the graduate level program, he served as an instructor in Jewish Liturgy. Rabbi Zweiback is a lecturer at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles, and a Senior Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. He is also the volunteer Executive Director and Founder of Kavod, a non-profit tzedakah collective which is dedicated to protecting human dignity. Rabbi Zweiback is also an author, musician and composer. His publications include the teacher’s guide to Shalom Ivrit II; Day of Days; and Days of Wonder, Nights of Peace: Family Prayers in Song for Morning and Bedtime. As part of Mah Tovu, he has released three albums, published two books, and performed across the United States. He is married to Jacqueline Hantgan and, together, they are the proud parents of three daughters.

In this episode, meet Lex, Rabbi Jessica, and Rabbi Daniel. Lex and Rabbi Jessica are a student and graduate of ALEPH, the Renewal rabbinical program, and both have experiences of being intermarried. Rabbi Daniel, a Reform rabbi and child of an intermarried couple, delivered his senior sermon about HUC's policy not to admit intermarried students to rabbinical, cantorial, or Jewish educator degree programs. The three of them share their experiences, and their takes, on HUC's intermarriage policy.

Dr. Jason Kalman of Hebrew Union College shares the remarkable story of McGill University’s attempts to purchase scrolls from Cave 4 at Qumran in the early 1950s. Although the process was complicated, drawn out, full of international intrigue, and ultimately never brought any scrolls to Montreal, McGill Professor R.B.Y. Scott’s efforts prompted others to act and resulted in the preservation of the Dead Sea Scrolls, whose study has revolutionized our understanding of ancient Judaism. Dr. Kalman is the co-author with Jaqueline Du Toit of Canada's Big Biblical Bargain: How McGill University Bought the Dead Sea Scrolls (MQUP, 2010) and the author of Hebrew Union College and the Dead Sea Scrolls (HUC-JIR, 2012).
