Kevin B. Earle, MBA, MPHwww.usdentaltriage.com for the patients and thenwww.drivendentalmarketing.com/emergencyMr. Earle has been working with the dental profession for much of his career. He led the Arizona Dental Association for eleven years from 2007 through 2019. He came to organized dentistry from a distinguished career in healthcare regulation, having previously served as the ExecutiveDirector of the Arizona Board of Dental Examiners, the NewJersey Board of Dentistry and the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners. He is an Honorary Fellow of the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He holds a BA in Public Affairs from George Washington University, an MBA from Rutgers University and an MPH from Columbia University. In an effort to help emergency room doctors keep the focus on COVID-19 patients, Kevin has launched a special emergency response campaign for dental procedures.Every 14 seconds someone goes into the emergency room for a dental related issue. Emergency rooms are not equipped to handle definitive dental care. With the government limiting many dentist offices to handling urgent care and some of them actually closing, people are having challenges finding a dentist to treat their dental emergency or, they simply aren't going into the emergency rooms out of fear of contracting the coronavirus. Dentists are experts in infection control. This is why it's so important for patients to get connected to a dentist when experiencing pain or infection. I recently launched the U.S. Dental Triage so that we can help keep people out of the emergency rooms by connecting them with dentists who can treat them. What other precautions will dentists take to make sure the patient stays safe when visiting their office? The dentist will ask you to call them once you arrive at the office and they will come out to the car to get you and take you directly to a pre-sterilized room. The dentist and dental assistants will be wearing gloves and masks, and you will be isolated from any other patients on the premises. How will this also aid the healthcare workers in the dental community?Since many dental offices are closed across the country and only able to operate for dental emergencies, we are providing a solution to that. Many patients are unable to reach their dentist offices to schedule appointments and we are able to help thedentists with scheduling and new referrals to allow them to stay in business and provide lifesaving emergency services to people who need attention asap. For Dentist:Why is it important to you that a service like this exists? The coronavirus pandemic has added so much stress to the dailylives of our fellow Americans, we can address the additional stress of finding a dentist to handle an emergency dental case. Why is it beneficial to see a dentist as opposed to going to the emergency room?Emergency rooms are only equipped to handle to address the symptoms - - addressing pain or infection with pain medication orantibiotics. They aren't staffed to handle definitive dental treatment like fillings, root canals or extractions. These areservices that can really only be addressed in a dental office. What is considered a dental emergency? The American Dental Association Dental recently published a statement about dental emergencies. These are conditions that “are potentially life-threatening and require immediate treatment to stop ongoing tissue bleeding [or to] alleviate severe pain or infection.” Conditions include uncontrolled bleeding; cellulitis or a diffuse soft-tissue bacterial infection with intraoral or extraoral swelling that potentially compromises the patient's airway; or trauma involving facial bones that potentially compromises the patient's airway. As part of the emergency guidance, the Association added urgent dental care which “focuses on the management of conditions that require immediate attention to relieve severe pain and/or risk of infection and to alleviate the burden on hospital emergency departments.”We are available 24 hours a day and we will direct you to an available dentist that accepts your insurance and will see you right away. The dentist will then be able to do an online screening with the patient to make sure that they don't have symptoms of coronavirus themselves, and that their symptoms comply with the American Dental Association's list of urgent care procedures.Rhonda Peoples, Licensed & Certified B.A.N.K. Our guest for this episode says he has spent thirty years writing a book about life, he has strong opinions that are loosely held and his cv is dull and dangerous to your health. Dr. Brett Taylor is quite the comedic talent. I've spent many hours in the chair at his Sydney dental practice. I can't wait to share his secrets to "Simplifying Life: Simple Steps for Finding Your Way (in a complex world)." Brett has diverse business interests and has spent more than his share of time on the speaking circuit. He once told me he used one slide to talk for 3 hours about a particular topic! In his day job, he's an outstanding dentist who has won many accolades. They include fellowships from Pierre Fauchard Academy, The Academy of Dentistry International, and The American College of Dentists, to which he insists it is a mystery, and he's not sure what they were thinking! Brett is passionate about helping patients improve their oral health and help them achieve a beautiful smile. He has a great sense of humour and doesn't take himself too seriously. Brett and I sat down for a chat about why he'd make a terrible employee and what he learned after writing the book. Year after year, they heard repeatedly about the difficulties encountered by graduating dental students who were looking for associate positions. On the flip side, Dr. Studley was hearing from his clients that they couldn’t find the job seekers that they needed. He began posting jobs on a weekly newsletter that he sends out from his insurance company. These posts began to multiply until Drs. Peltz & Studley envisioned and then created Doccupations, an online algorithmic dental job matching service for all dental professionals.   In the short time that Doccupations has been live to both dental job seekers and employers, they have seen a strong enthusiasm for this service.  Both dental employers and job seekers are sharing their excitement for a product that matches and provides resources for them to review opportunities rather than working within the black hole of larger job boards.  Doccupations’ philosophy is to populate itself with high value candidates and jobs.  Their model ensures that you can review candidates that match your staffing needs.   Employers are reporting that the product is easy to use and that they are finding quality candidates quickly to fill their open positions.  Job seekers are reporting the same ease and success in completing their job search.   Industry leaders and associations are showing their support of Doccupations.  Doccupations is a member benefit of the American Student Dental Association.  That means that all graduating dental students are provided the opportunity to find their jobs through Doccupations.  That is 94% of all dental students graduating each year and looking for employment.   These 24,000 graduates will be coming to Doccupations first to match with their ideal dental job.   http://www.doccupations.com

Dr. Cynthia K. Brattesani joined the worms in podcast studio 1-A for the latest podcast.  After meeting her and chatting with her via Skype, we can easily say Cynthia is our favorite Italian dentist.  She is a very successful dentist in the Bay Area— and we can totally see why!  Not only is she very knowledgeable, focused, driven— all of those make for a great dentist, of course.  But what really resonated with us is her quote, "Smile often and see what happens."  That is a great philosophy for a dentist to embrace.  For everyone to embrace, really. It was a pleasure having Dr. Brattesani as our guest for this podcast.  We had so much fun getting to know her story!  Thank you, Cynthia!  Until next time— From Cynthia's website, which can be found at http://www.drcynthiab.com/ Dr. Cynthia K. Brattesani, DDS, is fast becoming one of the best-known figures in the dental industry. She has written dozens of articles for professional journals and websites including Dental Economics, Dentistry Today, SideKick, Women's Dental Journal, and she is a frequent lecturer at conferences and dental schools on a variety of topics.. Dr. Brattesani received her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of California, San Francisco, in 1989, and joined the practice of her brother, Steven J. Brattesani in San Francisco and Dr. William van Dyk in the East Bay as an associate the same year. After working as an associate for more than a decade, Dr. Brattesani opened her own practice in 2002, and it has become one of the fastest-growing dental practices in the Bay area since then. She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the American Dental Association's "Golden Apple" Award for Outstanding New Dentist Leader in 1996, and the U.S. Medal of Merit for outstanding public service for the City of San Francisco Earthquake. In 2015 she was honored with the UCSF 150th Anniversary Alumni Award. She has served in many positions and remains an active member of The American Dental Association (ADA), the California Dental Association (CDA), and the San Francisco Dental Society (SFDS) of which she served as president. Very early in her career, she became a fellow of the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Brattesani's passion is innovation serving on many advisory dental boards. Dedicated to the advancement of dentistry, she is a proud member of the Spear Education Faculty Club requiring hundreds of hour of continuing education. In 2013 she was appointed to the Management Committee of CDA Cares -- managing a dental clinic providing millions of dollars of free dentistry to thousands of the undeserved population. Dr Brattesani was recently quoted in a local dental newsletter stating: “Volunteering for me is a matter of the heart. It offers gifts often disguising themselves in the actual work. It offers me a lesson of humility and the value of courage to make me stand in something that I truly believe in. Volunteering together for the common good allows me to recognize what is truly extraordinary in the world. And once you open your heart----there is no turning back." In 2015, she was honored with the UCSF 150th Alumni Award, an honor of great distinction.
