After a lot of interest from listeners, we decided to do an episode focusing on 401ks and retirement plans for pediatric dentists. Jeff Wherry and Shawn Johnson from Treloar and Heisel join us to take a deep dive into 401ks. Shawn has been a guest on the show previously, and Jeff is the director of planning and research who specializes in helping doctors develop retirement plans for their practices. In this episode, we discuss: - What are the different type of retirement plans that a pediatric dentist should consider? - When is the right time to start thinking about a 401k for your practice? - Understanding the tax savings of a 401k, and how much money can you put in? - What is a third party administrator and how do they help the process? - Understanding terms such as safe harbor, profit sharing, vesting schedules, and open architecture plans - What is a defined benefit plan, and how does that layer over a traditional 401k for somebody ready to save more money? For anybody interested in getting more information or looking to start the steps in setting up a retirement plan for their practice, I would recommend contacting Jeff at jwherry@treloaronline.com

Some of the topics include: - What to look for in a disability policy, and how much coverage should you have? - When is a term life policy appropriate compared to a whole life? - Why pediatric dentists need a higher level of coverage with the trend for in-office general anesthesia. - What are the components of a business owner's protection policy? - Finding a balance between keeping an emergency fund vs having business interruption and overhead coverage.

Rob and Paul host Shawn Johnson and Lara Blaine of Treloar & Heisel for a very important discussion on insurance products and issues that should be on all dental practice owners' radar: employer practices liability insurance (EPLI), data breach, and virtual/telemedicine. In our rapidly changing world, there are so many risks and threats that, now more than ever, it's important to be properly insured. This is probably best exemplified in the area of HR and employment issues where there have been, and will continue to be, an uptick of hiring and firing decisions being made that will undoubtedly lead to an increase in claims against employers making EPLI an important tool for business owners. In addition, increasing cyber threats and evolving telemedicine component practices make understanding the nature of these claims important and being properly insured against them something that every practice owner should consider. Shawn Johnson is the Vice President of Business Development for Treloar & Heisel and Lara Blaine is the Manager of the Property and Casualty Division for Treloar & Heisel. Vidya’s mission in her newest project is to reverse desertification in southern Spain. Southern Spain is at massive risk of becoming a desert, which means that the land will be irreversibly unusable. Vidya Heisel is founder of Frog Lotus Yoga International, and is one of the most senior and respected teachers of yoga in the world. She founded Suryalila Retreat Centre with grand ambitions and created the largest yoga practice space in Europe. She talks to Kat about how she is educating the local farming community to change their intensive farming practices to use less water, help prevent droughts and reverse what seems as the inexorable march of desert through the whole of Southern Europe. This talk is a must-listen to if you’re interested in the world around you, and wonder how olive groves and beautiful fields of sunflowers hide the dark fact that the way that they are farmed is increasing risk of drought, use of poisonous chemicals and turning the land into unusable desert and the inspiring story of how Vidya is living her yoga off the mat and in real life in her care for her environment. The story Vidya tells is one of her resourcefulness in simply educating herself around the issues to manage her own land, and passion to educate and inspire people about different ways of managing the land, and the impact intensive farming has on the planet. During the show Kat questions the threat of desertification worldwide and actually, worldwide just under 40% of the world’s land surface is threatened with desertification!!! Vidya’s mission to reverse desertification has never been more needed. The practice of mindfulness around the preciousness of our resources is key to Vidya’s message, her work truly is yoga in action. Vidya’s classes can be found at https://movementformodernlife.com/yoga-teacher/vidyaheisel. Find out more about Danyadara https://danyadara.com and suryalila at https://suryalila.com

First, Erin lays out a theoretical framework for play and then they discuss whether flow requires physical challenge, the elements that bring about flow or play spheres, the effects of entering those kinds of mind states, and the relevance to how we practice yoga and engage ourselves in life. Who's doing a great job of collecting health data and translating it into engaging public health multimedia? For many in global health, the clear leader is the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington in Seattle. 3D Printing and Design Innovation for Clothing and Wearables with Sylvia Heisel… Sylvia Heisel, Fashion Designer, 3D Printing and Design Innovation for Clothing and Wearables (bio), and Creative Director of Heisel, joins Samanta Cortes and Stephanie Benedetto at MouthMedia Network’s studio at VoyagerHQ.Applying 3D printing to fashion, sustainability and compostable possibilities, sugar-based polyester, and 3D printed jewelry Heisel reviews how she got her start, but was doing same thing over and over, stopped being creative, and concerned about sustainability issues. How she got into 3D printing and applied it to fashion, how 3D printing wasn’t really a new technology, the first thing she made was customized iPhone cases, and how innovations allowing fast growth are close to mass production of 3D printed clothing. Cool new compostable fabrics, made of sugar and other materials, making the fast fashion trend not harming the planet. How the speed of 3D printing is improving. The first mass market example is the Adidas 3D printed shoe with carbon, economically feasible but not ecologically ideal. 3D printing has been for the development stage. So much material and technical expertise is required for practical application of 3D printing of fashion that were never considerations before. 3D printing offers an opportunity to get jewelry molding right, and the opportunity to re-purpose/recycle discarded materials into 3D printing filament. The famous coat, the need for education in 3D printing, and starting with materials and process The 3D printed famous coat and the process ideation to production, printing in pieces instead of cutting, them, and joining together, with truly zero waste, not even seam allowances. Intriguing new processes, and a machine that Heisel’s team built by hacking another CNC machine and turning it into a 3D printer. The need for education, how industrial design and arhcitecture students, but not fashion students, are taught in general about 3D printing. Not everyone will be designers, and many will go into manufacturing, so teaching 3D is important. Good design comes from good manufacturing, but fashion starts with design.Flying, shape-shifting, and making stuff Remnants, create a fabric for flying and shape-shifting, how the future holds new stuff, and why we just have to make stuff.

Andrew Heisel visits The Context of White Supremacy. Mr. Heisel resides in New Haven, Connecticut and is a freelance writer. His work has been published on Slate, Vice Sports, LA Review of Books, and The Washington Post. We'll explore his recent essay: The Last Two Minutes of NBA Games: A History of Racism, Money, and Boredom. He submits that the adage that one only need witness the final two minutes of a basketball contest is a codified way of transmitting Racist concepts. White animosity towards black people in general and black athletes in particular has generated extensive study. The proliferation of black NBA icons caused many White fans to produce (fabricate) any justification for "White flight" from the hardwood. We'll see if this is connected to White dislike of LeBron James and the looming prizefight between Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.
