What a journey this past month has been. Kim and I finished up our final book tour appearance last week in Minneapolis - and we loved meeting all of you! ADHD Is Awesome is research-based and we interviewed many doctors, psychologists, and psychiatrists to get as broad a perspective as possible. But in the end, it's written from my perspective. When I look back at the process of writing this book, I wish I'd had the opportunity to talk more about other perspectives than my own. In particular, the perspective of the under-diagnosed woman with ADHD and minorities. In this week's podcast, we got a chance to speak with Amy Marie Hann, a mother of 3 children with ADHD. Amy herself was diagnosed with ADHD as a child. Her father and sister are also ADHD, as is her husband. Needless to say, ADHD has permeated every corner of her life. It was incredibly enlightening to talk to her about her own journey and how she has adapted her routines in order to not only keep her own ADHD in check, but also be able to be present and effective in raising her children. I think there are good things in both of those towns depending on the cuisine you're seeking. Is steak like Bones in ATL, well no, but if I want to spend $300+ on dinner I go to Atlanta proper. For casual dinners, there are plenty of decent options. Or you could always move since you're not a tree. “ Joyce Holmes from Hiram “In my opinion we did not ask for everyone to move here in the first place and when y'all did you brought this crap with you so if you like it move back to where you came from.” Christopher Lee Byrd from Rockmart “You could…eat at home?” From the Paulding County Sheriff's Office Facebook page: They posted “Sergeant Clint Barker of our Courthouse Security Division (a proud Auburn Tiger football fan) and Superior Court Judge Dean Bucci (a proud Georgia Bulldog football fan) decided to place a "friendly wager" on the teams' football game this past weekend. On the way in to work this morning, Sergeant Barker could not wait to show Judge Bucci the poster he made. Rumor has it, Sergeant Barker even has his poster proudly displayed in his office.” Others commented: Sarah Marion Hitchcock from Atlanta “I love this “ Reece Brown from Dallas “Bless Barker!! I hope maybe he will learn better.” Andrea Pearson from Rockmart “We Sgt Barker!! Go Dawgs “ Dana Greene from Dallas “Looking good Barker.” From the What's Happening in Paulding County Facebook page: Heather Gretsinger from Atlanta “PSA: Not everyone drives a car with a back-up camera. I know how to drive and use my mirrors, but seriously, why do people think it's ok to just walk right behind my car when I am backing up? This has been happening more and more lately. Please, when you are in a parking lot , pay attention to your surroundings!!” These are your responses from actual Paulding County citizens - as reported on What's Happening Paulding County Chris Lanham from Dallas “They walk like they drive. Everyone else are just in thier way and where they are going is more important than where you're going. It doesn't need to be said where its organizing from. We already know!” Amanda Walters from Dallas “It's abundantly apparent on this thread that people do not know the driving laws and they need to revisit that.” Cory Hobgood from Atlanta “The amount of times I've been at the Hiram Walmart and people have yelled at me for some goofy reason in the parking lot is absurd. ***TRIGGER WARNING: Mention of sexual assault, domestic abuse, and human (sex) trafficking.*** I am very excited to bring on this fan-requested episode with Amy-Marie Merrell, the Executive Director of The Cupcake Girls, a non-profit organization based in the USA providing confidential support to those involved in the sex industry, as well as trauma-informed outreach, advocacy, resources and aftercare to those affected by sex trafficking. The Cupcake Girls aims to help support sex trafficking victims and sex workers, distinctly drawing the line that these are two very different groups of people. We learn about how the Cupcake Girls came to be, Amy's involvement with the organization and how it is quickly growing all across the USA and with future plans to expand into Canada and Mexico. Amy also addresses the dangers of non-profit organizations who have underlying motives with religious undertones and saviour-like stances on sex work. We also go into an in-depth explanation of why The Cupcake Girls stands for the decriminalization of sex work and why legalization and the Nordic models do not work or benefit our community. https://www.thecupcakegirls.org/ twitter.com/CupcakeGirlsOrg Why Decrim: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CDIqWyvX4WVYg2pc0LXQb1FFzjN6GHQZ/view https://www.instagram.com/amymariemerrell https://twitter.com/amy_merrell Fox Digital is an official partner of the show. Episode 87 with Amy Marie Hann. “We try so hard to do all these things, and we end up feeling like failures. In reality, we're just supposed to be doing life in a different way.” Amy Marie is an ADHD advocate, entrepreneur and mom of 3 young kids. She was diagnosed with ADD in kindergarten but found motherhood and especially being a stay-at-home mom to be the most challenging season for her brain. Amy Marie now teaches moms with ADHD to manage their home life with ease in order to have more time and energy. In addition to her Activated ADHD Mamas Facebook group, Amy also runs a Master the Mundane course and training system for moms so they can better understand their brain wiring and develop the best home management systems for themselves and their families. She also wrote a 16-page e-book called Thrive in Motherhood with ADHD, which comes with practical tips, mindset shifts and resources for personal growth. You can get that for free at her website. Amy Marie and I talk all about domestic life and the unique pressures on women to be able to “do it all” as a mom and entrepreneur — and to somehow also be satisfied and sane. And we also talk about the Christian community and the church and some of the expectations on Christian moms that simply don't work when you have neurodivergent kids. **Register for Amy's Master the Mundane course** Website: AmyMarieHann.com Instagram: @activatedadhdmama Episode edited by E Podcast Productions Find the transcript of this episode at www.womenandadhd.com/transcripts - - - - - Small group coaching with Katy: www.womenandadhd.com/groupcoaching - - - - - Work 1-on-1 with Katy: www.womenandadhd.com/coaching - - - - - Finally ... you've found your people! From musical theater to opera, from Disney Cruise Line to New York's famed Town Hall venue,Amy Marie Stewart has seen first hand the struggles that singers and actors face. Most of it coming from our own preconceived notions or those expectations heaped on us by others. Her recent blog post "Failing our Singers" went viral as she tried to dispel those do's and don'ts in order to free us up to give our best performance, whether onstage or in the audition room. Due to a recent illness, which she opens up about in this episode, Amy now focuses on teaching and helping singers be their best. As the founder of TheoryWorks she specializes in distilling down effort, finding a filter-free sound, helping legit singers belt and belters sing legit -- and, most importantly, in being her student's new number-one cheerleader. She works with musical theatre folks to build a cohesive book. To get a sense of her approach, check out the (free) TheoryWorks online masterclass on putting an audition book together. Amy is also a published Backstage Expert and distinguished representative of the CU College of Music Alumni in NYC. Her students are currently performing on Broadway, and in Broadway tours, on cruise ships, with the Rockettes, and in theatres across the country. Amy Marie Stewart started as an opera singer with an undergraduate degree from CU Boulder and a Masters from Roosevelt Univ. Chicago College of the Performing Arts. But after becoming very discouraged about her opera career she turned to music theater and teaching voice. She found a powerful need; Broadway actors and dancers were called to understand music theory in call-backs and rehearsal. Amy has developed a thoughtful, entertaining online course in music theory that takes auditioning actors from ground zero to understanding the core skills inside and out. She also has great audition tips for musical theater singers right in this episode - secrets that she shares with the listener, such as how to balance acting with singing in the audition, and how to avoid common mistakes in preparation for the practical side of auditioning.
