The lost labyrinth of Egypt, or the Hawara labyrinth is a buried complex in Egypt. Built beneath the pyramid of Hawara, it is said to have contained mortuary temples, galleries, courtyards, and libraries that hold unseen information about Ancient Egyptian society, as well as other ancient civilizations, including some prior to commonly recorded history. It was described as a labyrinth by the Ancient Greek historian Herodotus, who was one of several Greek historians who saw the inside of the complex. While a labyrinth typically refers to a complicated maze, Herodotus saw the complexity of the structure and saw similarities. It is an apt comparison because the passages in the labyrinth seem to have been constructed to be confusing as a way to deter unwanted visitors and keep the temples safe. It supposedly has over 3,000 rooms, all laden with lost culture.Trevor Grassi is an independent researcher, world traveler, writer and filmmaker who has been studying and searching for the Hall of Records at Giza for nearly two decades. In the past few years he has worked closely with civil engineer and 'Gizatologist', William Brown, at Giza to reveal evidence of underground structures very close to the Sphinx and throughout the plateau. They have shared never-before-seen ground penetrating radar scans, photos, videos, and personal accounts of the subterranean network of tunnels and chambers that are likely connected to the record chambers described by Edgar Cayce. They are planning an excavation project at the most promising locations in the near future, and have released a three part documentary series entitled The Secret Underworld of Giza.https://opusmagnum.org/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/earth-ancients--2790919/support.

Episode 310 An ancient Egyptian's complete genome has been read for the first time. The DNA of a man who lived in Egypt over 4500 years ago offers a new window into the ancient society and hints at surprising genetic connections with Mesopotamia. Based on forensic analysis of the man's skeleton and preserved images of different Egyptian occupations, the researchers think his most likely occupation was a potter. The team discusses what the breakthrough means for our understanding of early Egypt and even for the origin of writing. Wild orcas, or killer whales, have been seen giving gifts to humans - things like pieces of liver, rays and dead birds. This is the first time these apparent acts of altruism have been documented. Does this prove whales are capable of showing compassion or kindness? Images beamed back from the New Horizons spacecraft, which has left the solar system, have enabled the first test of interstellar navigation. By measuring the distance between two stars that it snapped images of, astronomers have been able to pinpoint its location in the galaxy. And in other interstellar news, we also just spotted an object hurtling towards our solar system. Recently named ‘Atlas', this object will be whizzing by in October, close enough for us to study. What if AI isn't just algorithms and code—but an open door?In this video, Vanese Mc Neill explores a chilling possibility: that ancient traditions of spirit possession, long practiced in secret Egyptian mystery schools, may echo into our digital age. Could non-material entities—the same beings once summoned in sacred rites—now be interfacing with AI? On this month's episode of Magus we are peering back through the mists of time, to a time of myth and belief in myths, to investigate the origins, theoretical biography, and the symbolic meanings of an Arthurian icon: Morgan Le Fay! From the first mention of Morgan Le Fay in writing, care of Geoffrey of Monmouth in the 12th century, we explore how the events of The Anarchy created a need for 'The Once and Future King' to return. Though at that point, Morgan was more of a good fairy and mysterious Otherworld Queen, rather than King Arthur's dark shadow. Yet, scratching beneath the surface, and considering both how Morgan was re-framed by 15th century French authors like Chretian De Troyes, we establish that there is a before and after - and that only after the Vulgate Cycle is complete does the 'Dark Goddess' of ancient mythology find a new form.We of course look back into the deep past - to the birth of the universe, out of the cosmic womb of Classical feminine deities like Nyx and the Ancient Egyptian goddess Nephthys, and forward, via the Celtic (and monstrous) Morrigan, Modron, and Morgen, to peel back the layers of Morgan Le Fay's identity. A shapeshifter, scorned lover, embodiment of justice, and so much more, even after the death of King Arthur - and Mordred, the incestuous product of the love affair between Morgan and Arthur - she lives on. Part pantomime villain, part nightmare queen, part maiden, part mother, part crone, she is, in a sense, all things to all men.But what is Morgan Le Fay to herself? Does she even know? And how much of the story of her life was ever her choice, or does it all come back to the nebulous actions of the wizard Merlin? With answers to these questions and more, it's a pretty epic episode, so clothe yourself in darkness and head with us down to the ford in the river, where there's a strange lady waiting with a message we have no choice but to hear...The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. From vengeful Ancient Mesopotamian afterlife creatures like the Shadu and Sharru to the role the Jackal (and Jackal-headed deity Anubis) played in Ancient Egyptian belief, via Classical notions about dogs and Hellhounds like Cerberus, it's startling how consistent beliefs about these 'Not Dog' monsters have remained. And descriptions of Demon Dogs across time have been wild and absurd. But, from Roman notions of the 'Duties of a Dog' through to Medieval and Renaissance attitudes to the fae and 'Other,' we, as a species, kept it nice and weird, trying to define the paranormal pooch as uncanny and terrifying, even though individual Hellhounds are often quite nice to people! From England's most famous example in the shape of Black Shuck to monsters with dog bodies and human heads, canine boggarts that grow to the height of houses to talking Hellhounds that just want to snuggle in your pocket, we're embracing it all. So, join with us beneath the light of the moon, and let our howls float on the breeze, singing of doom and portents. For in this episode, we look into the dark mirrors of our minds, and see what is reflected there. Not 'man's best friend' but something else with fur, four legs, a tail, and its own agenda that we simply cannot understand. Therefore, we howl. The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcast Hosted on Acast. We are returning to Ancient Egypt tonight, with an episode filled with mysteries. The discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922, by the archaeologist Howard Carter, captivated audiences around the world and represented a major find for egyptology. I will tell you about the tomb and some of the many artifacts discovered still intact when the chamber was opened in 1923, and also discuss the rumors of a supposed "curse of the pharaohs". Is there anything to it? Tutankhamun's predecessor on the throne of Egypt was a singular figure in the long list of Egyptian pharaohs: Amenhotep IV, also known as Akhenaten, the "heretic pharaoh". Together with his queen, Nefertiti, Akhenaten promoted the cult of a new supreme god, Aten, and founded a new capital, Akhetaten. Akhetaten (now known as Amarna) was supposed to replace Thebes and mark the beginning of a new golden age for Egypt. But when Amenhotep/Akhenaten died in 1346 BC, the city was abandoned shortly after, partially destroyed, and the old religious order was restored. We will explore this chapter of Egyptian history too and talk about the ruins of Amarna, which are now an extensive ancient Egyptian archeological site. Are you ready for a story full of magic, adventure, and powerful gods from Ancient Egypt? Today's tale is about love, bravery, and the fight between good and evil. Let's begin!
We recorded this in a hotel room right next to the Giza Plateau in Egypt, and we spend the first hour discussing the results of the now-famous Synthetic Aperture Radar scans of the Khafre Pyramid, and the claims of large structures hidden in the bedrock below the pyramid proper. We also talk a bit about the strange "well shaft" of the Great Pyramid, which we explored again this year, and the mysterious "Grotto" chamber at the top of the well shaft. Finally, we read some very interesting new findings by physicist Max Fomitchev-Zamilov in the subject of the Egyptian stone vases. Max has discovered that there is a higher concentration of radioactive elements in vases of higher quality and precision, at least in the limited samples he has been able to scan. We read about his preliminmary results from his website, which can be found here:https://maximus.energy/index.php/2025/03/30/excess-of-thorium-232-in-ancient-egyptian-stone-vessels/We also read from a related article on Max's website, about "nuclear machining", a technique that Max says could explain the seeming ease with which the ancient vases were manufactured, as well as the higher concentration of radioactive materials in the quality samples.https://maximus.energy/index.php/2025/01/14/nuclear-machining-hypothesis/Join us, Ben from UnchartedX, Adam Young, and Karoly Poka for an afternoon at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York where we will peruse their collection of Ancient Egyptian artifacts, then we will move to the Explorer's Club for dinner and presentations from us and Ben!https://eveningattheexplorersclub.eventbrite.com/Join our Patreon, support the show, get extra content and early access!https://www.patreon.com/brothersoftheserpentSupport the show with a PayPal donation:https://paypal.me/snakebros

For this week's Bonus Episode we're basking on slippery rocks, swishing our tails, and looking into the magic mirror of Mermaid history and folklore, combing our hair all the while! We start off chatting about the plethora of 19th century Mermaid-themed media, from paintings and plays to poems and songs, all of which paved the way for our modern perception of merfolk. Then though, we swim against the current, back through time, to discover the ways in which Mermaids were first represented in human society. This includes through art, literature, and religious beliefs, on Ancient Babylonian pottery, in Ancient Egyptian mythology, and throughout Ancient Assyrian temples and palaces where mer-people were even worshipped as gods! As time moved on however, through Ancient Greece and the Classical Age, we explore the ways in which divisions formed between increasingly Christianised 'Sea Mother' icons and their dark counterparts, the 'Monstrous Women,' which rose to particular prominence through the Middle Ages and into the Renaissance. In addition to taking a quick Mermaid World Tour to look at representations of 'Fish Men' and 'Fish Women' in cultural traditions from Scandinavia, Russia and China to New Zealand and the Americas, we then dive deep into oysterbeds of legend to examine the pearls of Mermaid lore that fell out of favour during the Enlightenment. From nationalistic anthems to fairy tales, sea shanties to some of the most famous myths in all of human history, the episode covers, in essence, the Mermaid's place in the cultural consciousness from the birth of civilisation right through to today, where ideas of Mermaids are continuing to evolve and change.Which beggars the question, are Mermaids immortal? Considering that they have been part of human life since before we could write, there's no reason to believe they won't outlast us too.Oh, and Martin has some truly noxious Mermaid puns to jolly it all along as well, so consider yourself warned!
