In this episode, Guy talked with Dr. Bruce Greyson, a retired psychiatrist and an author. He discussed the transformative effects of near-death experiences (NDEs). He explained how NDEs profoundly change people's lives, making them more compassionate and less materialistic. Dr. Greyson shared compelling stories, including that of a Marine whose NDE made him unable to continue his military duties. He highlighted the growing recognition of NDEs in the medical community and the need for further research. The episode also delved into Dr. Greyson's personal journey, the scientific challenges in studying NDEs, and the universal message of interconnectedness and compassion. About Bruce: Dr. Bruce Greyson is the Chester Carlson Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia. He was previously on the medical faculty at the University of Michigan and the University of Connecticut, where he was Clinical Chief of Psychiatry. Dr. Greyson has consulted with the National Institutes of Health and addressed symposia on consciousness at the United Nations and at the Dalai Lama's compound in Dharamsala, India. Dr. Greyson's interest in near-death experiences began just a few months after graduating from medical school, when he treated an unconscious patient in the emergency room who stunned him the next morning with an account of leaving her body. That event challenged his beliefs about the mind and the brain, and ultimately led him on a journey to study near-death experiences scientifically, leading to more than a hundred publications in medical journals. He co-founded the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS), an organization to support and promote research into these experiences, and for 27 years edited the Journal of Near-Death Studies, the only scholarly journal dedicated to near-death research. Through his research, he has discovered common and universal themes in near-death experiences that go beyond neurophysiological or cultural interpretations, as well as patterns of consistent aftereffects on individuals' attitudes, beliefs, values, and personalities. Welcome to the latest episode of WAB Podcast Season 5! In this episode, we explored the world of Nature of Science. Joining us were two Grade 10 students, Claire and Kabir, along with their teacher, Chris Hayden. Together, they took us on a journey through this project-based science course that allows students to dive deep into their passions, nurture critical thinking, sharpen their skills, and foster a love for scientific inquiry that goes beyond the classroom. Chris introduced that Nature of Science (NOS) allows students to choose and explore an area of science they're passionate about, and it covers foundational knowledge and key inquiry skills aligned with Middle Years Program (MYP) science objectives. He emphasized that learning science is not about memorizing facts, it should give students the tools they need to think like true scientists, including asking questions, solving problems, and making a real-world impact. Grade 10 student Kabir is a humanities enthusiast, who took NOS as a chance to bridge his love for economics with science. His project focused on the economic impacts of air pollution, a topic that allowed him to analyze data and uncover how environmental factors influenced global economies. He expressed he never thought he could enjoy science this much. With his teacher's help, he was able to process a large amount of data that he had collected for the project, boosting his analytical skills and making him more prepared for the Diploma Programme (DP) Economics. Claire from Grade 10 is very into biology, and she spent her time working on a project that combined her scientific passion with a desire to address societal issues. Inspired by conversations with some local women about the menstruation stigma in their daily lives, Claire designed an innovative project to detect gynecological diseases in a more convenient way. By using simulations, she explored how antibodies and antigens interact, aiming to create a diagnostic tool that could be integrated into sanitary products. Claire reflected this experience facilitates her DP studies and beyond, and more importantly, shows her how science can truly impact lives. Want to hear more about how our Grade 10 students are using NOS to sharpen their scientific skills and make a real difference in the world? Tune in to this episode!

Jayanta Bhattacharya is a Professor of Medicine at Stanford University. In October of 2020, he co-authored the Great Barrington Declaration, which eschewed lockdowns due to the harm they inflict on children and young adults, especially compared to the minor risk those demographics face from the virus itself. Despite his credentials, Dr. Bhattacharya learned--after Elon Musk gave him access to the Twitter Files--that he had been placed on a "trends blacklist." This censorship was the result of demands the White House, and quite possibly Dr. Fauci, had placed on social media companies to suppress speech that questioned the government's messaging on Covid-19, prompting Dr. Bhattacharya to become a plaintiff in Missouri v. Biden, which wound up in the Supreme Court. On this episode, he and Jenin discuss the Supreme Court's recent decision in the case, and the problematic implications for free speech and scientific inquiry.Help support Courting Controversy on Patreon and gain access to exclusive content: https://www.patreon.com/JeninYounesSubscribe to the Illusion of Consensus Podcast to follow Jay's work: https://www.illusionconsensus.com/podcastFollow Jay on X: https://x.com/DrJBhattacharyaFollow Jenin on X: https://x.com/JeninYounesEsqFollow Jenin on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeninyounesesq/Watch Courting Controversy on YouTube: www.youtube.com/courtingcontroversywithjeninWatch Courting Controversy on Rumble: https://rumble.com/user/JeninYounesEsqListen to Courting Controversy on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/courting-controversy-with-jenin-younes/id1754874846Listen to Courting Controversy on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4FwAmhckuL9cmsdj7ZkyBS
Exploring the Genius: A Review of ‘Leonardo Da Vinci' by Walter IsaacsonChapter 1:Summary of Book Leonardo Da VinciWalter Isaacson's biography "Leonardo Da Vinci" delves into the life of one of history's greatest creative geniuses. Published in 2017, the book meticulously explores Leonardo's life through his notebooks, paintings, and inventions, illuminating his insatiable curiosity and inventive imagination.Leonardo Da Vinci, born in 1452 in Vinci, Italy, had a wide range of interests that spanned various fields, including art, science, engineering, anatomy, and nature. Isaacson uses da Vinci's famous notebooks, which contain over 7,200 pages of drawings and notes, to provide readers with insights into the mind of the genius. Clearly, da Vinci pursued knowledge for its own sake, and his lack of formal education did not hinder his relentless quest for understanding. The biography also discusses many of Leonardo's masterpieces, like "The Last Supper" and the "Mona Lisa," analyzing the innovative techniques used and the human emotions captured that continue to fascinate people to this day. Isaacson highlights Leonardo's obsessive attention to detail, his transformative thoughts on human anatomy, which he discovered through dissection, and his futuristic inventions, some of which were not realized during his lifetime.Isaacson also examines the personal aspects of da Vinci's life, including his vegetarianism, left-handedness, and probable homosexuality, suggesting how his nature influenced his art and scientific studies. Despite his numerous accomplishments, Leonardo is portrayed as human, experiencing failures, like his unfinished projects and his notorious procrastination. The biography doesn't just glorify da Vinci's successes but also illustrates how his tendency to question received knowledge, untangle complex phenomena, and navigate unknown intellectual territories made him a true "Renaissance man" who remains relevant in today's creative and scientific realms.Isaacson's narrative is engaging and educational, shedding light not only on Leonardo's genius but also on how he can serve as an exemplar of blended art and science for future generations.Chapter 2:The Theme of Book Leonardo Da VinciWalter Isaacson's biography "Leonardo Da Vinci" meticulously chronicles the life of the Italian polymath, providing insights into his extraordinary talents as an artist, inventor, scientist, and thinker. Dr. John Vervaeke and Sevilla King delve into intricate topics that cut across philosophy, psychology, and science. The conversation commences with an in-depth exploration of the "meaning crisis" and secular humanism. Sevilla King tackles the limitations of subject-object metaphysics, while Dr. Vervaeke expounds upon nominalism and its implications for understanding the world's patterns. They discuss Neoplatonism as a potential grounding philosophy for a "religion that's not a religion," and contrast it with the complexities of modern thought. As the conversation evolves, they engage in vibrant debates about embodiment, rationality, the potential and pitfalls of scientific inquiry, and the nature of love and truth. Dr. Vervaeke uses illustrative analogies, and Sevilla King emphasizes the role of mindset and the cultural implications of scientific paradigms. Each moment in the discussion serves as an intellectual milestone, pointing toward new conceptual territories and the endless horizon of human understanding. In this episode of The Curios Cosmos, Derrick Pitts sits down with Leslie Kean, an investigative journalist who's work led to the US government acknowledging the existence of unidentified flying objects! But what does this recognition mean for space science? Listen as the two discuss the reclassification of UFOs to unidentified aerial/anomalous phenomenon (UAPs), how stigma has prevented even the most credible sightings from being seriously studied, and the important role scientists will play in solving this mystery moving forward. For listener reference, this interview was recorded in February 2023. Between recording and air date, public government acknowledgment and investigation into UAPs have continued, including further reporting by Leslie and more congressional hearings on the topic.Links for this episode:Learn more about Leslie Kean, and check out her 2010 book exploring UFO/UAPsRead the NYT article Leslie helped write, which exposed the Department of Defense's UFO investigation program to the public, and check out the unclassified Navy videos for yourself!Look into some civilian-run UFO sighting databases, like the National UFO Reporting Center and the Mutual UFO NetworkLearn more about the Galileo Project at HarvardCheck out the National Geographic docuseries Leslie produced, UFOs: Investigating the Unknown, which featured Derrick as an expert!

Robert Proctor, author of the book "Sacrificing Truth: The Deterioration of Scientific Inquiry," joins the show to discuss the state of scientific inquiry on campus today. Stylene, a chemical used in the production of plastic, has been linked to health problems in plants, and guestimates are rampant because of lack of research. Lexman and Robert discuss how this problem arises and what can be done to improve the state of scientific inquiry on campus.

Over the past two decades, our view of the ideals for science in society has changed. Discussions of the roles for values in science and changes in the views on the responsibilities in science have shifted the understanding of science from ideally value-free to properly value-laden. This shift, however, seems to remove a key difference between science and politics, as now both science and politics are value-laden, and disputes in both can arise from value disagreements. If science is not value-free (nor should it be), what differentiates science from politics? Heather Douglas lays out norms for scientific inquiry that make it distinct in practice from politics and argues that understanding and defending these differences help to protect science from abuses of power.Heather Douglas is a philosopher of science who works on the relationships among science, values, and democratic publics. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Michigan State University, Senior Visiting Fellow at the Center for Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh (2021-2022), and a AAAS fellow. She is the author of "Science, Policy, and the Value-Free Ideal" (2009), "The Rightful Place of Science: Science, Values, and Democracy" (2021), and editor of the book series "Science, Values, and the Public" for University of Pittsburgh Press.Justyna Bandola-Gill, a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, offers a response. Lawrence M. Krauss is an American theoretical physicist who runs the Origins Project Foundation. He served on the science-policy committee for Barack Obama in 2008 and has taught at some of the most elite institutions in America. In this conversation Tóti probes Lawrence about what are the greatest threats to science today. They speak about university culture, the impacts of woke thinking, the influence of politics, the dangers of speaking out, and much more. The second half of the conversation leads to the late, and dearly missed, Christopher Hitchens and what he might have thought about the current moment.
Join neuroscientist Maria Kozhevnikov as she shares cutting-edge research on the nature of consciousness, and expands the scientific inquiry into post-mindfulness studies. Mindfulness studies, which dominate the field, are great, but there is so much more. Dr. Kozhevnikov is a rare blend of scientist-practitioner, who has spent years studying advanced meditators in Bhutan and Nepal. Her ground-breaking work in deity yoga (generation stage meditation) and tummo (the inner heat practices) is revealing the untapped wonders of the mind from a scientific lens, and stretching research into uncharted territories. What is the promise and peril of conducting studies on practices that were previously kept secret? What is the “cash value” of this work, and how can it benefit the general public, or a meditator? Is the mind spread out across the body, or limited to the brain? Does mentation even expand beyond the body? Maria shares her work and experience with lucid dreaming (along with tips for increasing lucidity), and discusses the importance of “flow states” (the Zone) and their relationship to states of meditative absorption (samadhi). What happens to the default mode network, and the salience network, which are both central to the ego, in these deep states? Why does the Vajrayana (Tantra) engage flow states, while the Hinayana (Theravada) does not? Maria shares how her professional work has informed and impacted her practice of Vajrayana Buddhism, and then concludes with what lies ahead in her exciting arena of scientific inquiry. Dr. Kozhevnikov is a pioneering voice truly on the edge of mind.
“New ideas always come from the fringe in science. So we have to encourage new ideas to come up. We can't have science become a religion where there are dogmas.” In this episode, filmed at Hillsdale College's Censorship of Science conference, we sit down with Dr. Martin Kulldorff, an epidemiologist, biostatistician, and former professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. He's a co-author of the Great Barrington Declaration that argued for “focused protection” of the vulnerable instead of lockdowns. Kulldorff breaks down what he sees as the “power hubs” controlling policy, research funding, and career advancement in the scientific world. “Dr. Fauci sort of sits on the biggest chunk of infectious disease research money in the world. So it takes a bit of guts to contradict his view on pandemic strategy.” Kulldorff is the scientific director at the Brownstone Institute and a founding fellow at Hillsdale College's Academy for Science and Freedom. “I'm very concerned that 400 years of enlightenment or scientific progress may come to an end. And I think we have to work very hard to avoid that.” Follow EpochTV on social media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/EpochTVus Twitter: https://twitter.com/EpochTVus Rumble: https://rumble.com/c/EpochTV Gettr: https://gettr.com/user/epochtv Gab: https://gab.com/EpochTV Telegram: https://t.me/EpochTV

Andrew Kaufman MD joins me on this episode for a conversation exploring the origins of disease and the future of medicine. Dr. Andy is a public speaker, researcher, natural healing, business, education consultant, inventor and Covid-19 whistleblower. Dr. Andy has a B.S. from M.I.T. in Molecular Biology and completed his psychiatric training at Duke University Medical Center after graduating from the Medical University of South Carolina. He spent many years in the medical field and practiced as a forensic psychiatrist and expert witness. Andy gave up his lucrative medical career and began researching and understanding the relationship between body, mind, and spirit, and how to use Nature to heal your own body when he learned that many of our modern medical practices do more to harm health than facilitate healing. Dr. Andy's new practice is spreading truth about the world we live in today and fighting for freedom. He teaches people the vital knowledge that they need to implement true Care for themselves and their families at the highest level of Consciousness. He now teaches people how to become their own Health Authority.Andy joins me for a provocative conversation on the nature of disease and disrupting the status quo as we move forward with the advancement of medicine in the twenty-first century.https://andrewkaufmanmd.com/* * * * *The Body Literacy Podcast is for informational and entertainment purposes only. Do UFOs represent exotic technology from another world? Will advances in the coming decades produce "warp drives" and other UFO-like technologies that will close the gap between the observed behavior of unidentified aerial phenomena and Earthly technologies? And what do aviation professionals worry about the most when it comes to reports of unidentified aircraft in our skies? Joining us to discuss all of these issues is Christopher Plain, one of the main contributors to The Debrief, Micah's science and technology endeavor with colleagues Tim McMillan and MJ Banias, whose reporting at the site has covered everything from "Star Trek" technologies of tomorrow, to one of America's leading groups of Aviation professionals and their recent assessments of unidentified flying objects. Dr. Sharon Stills interviews Neil Z. Miller, a medical research journalist and Director of the Institute of Medical and Scientific Inquiry. In this episode it is clear that we have been only told one side of the vaccine story...this is the WHO, CDC, FDA, and media. The other side are the parents who were once "pro-vaccine" and are now "ex-vaccine." They bring with them researchers and scientists who illuminate the misinformation we have been given. Neil Z. Miller is the conduit who has tirelessly used empirical data to show us the other side of the vaccine narrative. Come join us and "think twice" before you, or a loved one, accepts the next jab.
With all the attention put toward the U.S. government's recent interest in UFOs, the fact that similar incidents involving unidentified craft frequently occur in Canadian airspace is often left out of the equation. Joining us to discuss the Canadian UFO situation is investigative reporter Daniel Otis, who in recent months has been chronicling aviation incidents and military responses from the Canadian government regarding UFOs. Otis joins us to explain why the bulk of UFO data remains inaccessible to Canadian citizens, and the striking encounters he has uncovered from Canada's aviation incident reporting database on this week's edition of The Micah Hanks Program. To recreate a whole and sacred America, it is important to piece together the forgotten fragments of history that are currently keeping the country divided. The most significant forgotten piece is the profound effect Native America had on the founding values of this nation. Join Oren Lyons, Faithkeeper of the Turtle Clan of the Onondaga Nation, author of Exiled in the Land of the Free: Democracy, Indian Nations, and the US Constitution, and Bruce Johansen, author of Forgotten Founders: How the American Indian Helped Shape Democracy, for a scintillating peak into the true history of America. While this stereotype is patently false, it was not created out of thin air. Rather, the association between uneducated southerners and UFO landings, as well as the popularity of the term "Little Green Men," both come from a highly influential case from rural Kentucky in 1955. photo by George Peper Caroline is enthused to welcome back Dick Russell and his crucial pertinent book “Horsemen of the Apocalypse: The Men Who Are Destroying Life On Earth – and What It Means For Our Children,” an in-depth investigation into the energy moguls most responsible for the climate change crisis facing our civilization. May a Renaissance of Sane Reverence eclipse the on-going Dystopian Death by Dementors of Doom! Dick Russell has published thirteen books on subjects ranging from natural history (“Eye of the Whale”) to the assassination of President Kennedy. For most of the past twenty years, the primary focus of Dick Russell's magazine writing and personal activism has been the environment – particularly the crisis impacting the world's fisheries and oceans. http://dickrussell.org/ “Dick Russell and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., have brilliantly laid bare the horsemen of the apocalypse and their cronies who are now steering the American ship of state and are bent on committing hara-kiri on the agreements, agencies, and regulations that are a bulwark against their own country's and the world's plunge into disaster.” —HOMERO ARIDJIS, Mexican poet, novelist, ambassador, and environmental activist; president emeritus of PEN International “Horsemen of the Apocalypse is a mind-opening exposé of the roots and branches of fossil fuel zealots, their campaigns of misinformation, and the rebellion of their descendants. It shows how the misuse of wealth and power can undermine democracy, threaten the health of the planet, and neglect our moral responsibility to future generations.” —SHELDON KRIMSKY, PhD, Lenore Stern Professor of Humanities & Social Sciences, adjunct professor of public health and community medicine, Tufts University, and author of Stem Cell Dialogues: A Philosophical and Scientific Inquiry into Medical Frontiers The post The Visionary Activist Show – May a Renaissance of Sane Reverence Eclipse Dystopia appeared first on KPFA.
