Whether you’re in prep or just trying to eat well on a budget, there are some simple swaps and principles that can cut your food costs significantly without touching your results. We’re talking bulk buying, protein source cost comparisons, why frozen vegetables are just as good as fresh for bodybuilding purposes, and why you’re probably overpaying for products you don’t need. Then I’m weighing in on something the NY Pro this weekend put front and center for me — the case for instituting weight caps in Women’s Physique and Figure. Classic Physique already does this for men and it works. Women’s divisions are overdue for the same structural guardrails. I’ll make the argument for why weight caps enforce the original intent of these divisions, create a conditioning baseline, and actually benefit newer competitors who need a clear target to aim for. Courtney began competing in 2018 when during her second season, she found a lump in her breast following prejudging- a discovery that led to a breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and multiple surgeries. Courtney stepped away from the stage to fight for her life, navigating the physical and emotional toll of cancer while raising four sons and supporting her family.But her story doesn't stop there. Once in remission, Courtney returned to training for the stage while managing chronic back injuries, herniated discs, and ongoing pain- fueled by a deep love for the “me vs. me” challenge of the sport and a passion that she shares with her husband, an IFBB Pro in Men's Classic Physique.Courtney's story is one of perseverance and resilience as we discuss overcoming adversity, cancer recovery, motherhood and how nutrition and strength training play a powerful role in protecting long-term health. Marcus Perry is an IFBB Pro Classic Physique Olympian, with over 9 years in the fitness industry, his approach brings clarity, direction, and positive support to his clients. Marcus hails from Columbus, Ohio where he grew up watching “The Rock” on WWA and started kickboxing in his late teens. This inspired him to lift weights and pursue his dream of looking like Kevin Levrone, his favorite bodybuilder. Marcus won his first bodybuilding competition as a light-heavyweight in 2012 and has been a dedicated athlete ever since. His work ethic and natural drive led him to win his first regional show at the NPC Kentucky Muscle Championship in 2016. In September 2018, he turned pro in the men's heavyweight division and made his pro debut in the 2019 Men's Classic Physique. Marcus also works as a sales manager for one of the country's largest utility companies. His ultimate goal is to compete against the best athletes in the world at The Olympia. Hayley Perry is an IFBB Pro Woman's Physique, she started to fall in love with weight training and competed in her first bodybuilding competition in 2014 in the Bikini Division. She transitioned to Figure, and then finally the Women's Physique Division in 2019. Hayley has worked in healthcare for over 8 years as a Registered Nurse and now as an Advanced Practice Nurse in critical care/internal medicine, she holds a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Psychology and a Master's Degree in Nursing. She is passionate about Wellness & Holistic Medicine and her ultimate goal is to open her own Wellness Center. Hayley is currently a nurse practitioner working in hospital medicine with over 10 years of critical care experience at Ohio State University. She earned her pro card in 2021 and her ultimate goal is to step on the prestigious Olympia stage with her husband, Marcus.
