Send us a textOne piece of misinformation that has been around for a long time is the idea that strength training workouts need to be…LONG!  And I mean HOURS long…I fell for this myself in my younger days.  I mean, if 1 hour of intense workout exercises is good, well, 2 hours is even better, right?  And the big one: if 3 workouts per week is enough for Steve Reeves and his ilk, well why not be like Arnold and Zane, and workout 6 days per week, sometimes twice per day!  This is all sad, and ridiculous, really.  Especially for average people, who don't want to win bodybuilding contests, but just want to be strong and healthy for a lifetime!  I remember reading about Jean Claude von Damme, and how he worked out 6 hours per DAY!!  What a joke, really…I'm here to give you a liberating philosophy of strength training:  You can reach your ultimate potential, and train for your whole life long, by training for 20 to 30 minutes, 2 to three times per week!  Really.  I now train my lower body one day for about that long, and my upper body for the same time frame.  I train, skip a day, and then train again.  My weights and gymnastic rings are all set up in my basement, and I just walk downstairs, and start working…Very convenient, quickly done, and very productive!  Today, for instance, I took off two days between workouts, since leg training sometimes is more draining than upper body.  No matter; I just try to feel how I am recovering, and judge accordingly.  It really is surprising to learn that, when you workout really intensely, a short duration is really all you need, and really all your body can stand!  An intense stimulation of the targeted musculature must necessarily be brief, and is all that you really need or want.Just as you don't need a ton of food to grow and recover, you don't need a TON of exercise to stimulate gains!  Just make sure that the food you do eat is mainly protein, meat, eggs, cheese and seafood, and you will be very strong and healthy…Supplements are good too, so take vitamin D, magnesium and potassium, vitamin C and you will have all you need to grow, thrive, and be super healthy and strong!!That is really all there is to it!  It's really not that complicated, my friends. My only qualification is that I also work out every morning, first thing, for about an hour…But that is my joy and pleasure- working out in front of the television, mainly with stretching and virtual resistance exercises, that feel amazing and make you like a cat, twisting and stretching to make you supple, and feel like you are a free creature of the jungle!  You learn to use the muscles you build strength training like a feline, feeling alive in your body, injury free and vital! To me, that is the ultimate, lifelong goal of physical culture.Support the show

The history of bodybuilding is a captivating journey that intertwines with the evolution of physical fitness, cultural perceptions of the human body, and the pursuit of perfection. From ancient civilizations to modern-day competitions, bodybuilding has undergone significant transformations, shaping and being shaped by society's ideals and values. The origins of bodybuilding can be traced back to ancient Greece, where athletes trained to achieve physical prowess for competitive events like the Olympic Games. Sculpted statues and artworks from this era depict muscular physiques, highlighting the admiration for the human form. However, it wasn't until the late 19th century that bodybuilding as a structured discipline began to emerge. Eugen Sandow, often referred to as the "Father of Modern Bodybuilding," rose to prominence in the late 1800s with his impressive physique and groundbreaking performances. Sandow's exhibitions showcased his sculpted muscles and athleticism, captivating audiences worldwide and popularizing the concept of physical culture. He emphasized the importance of strength, symmetry, and aesthetics, laying the foundation for modern bodybuilding. In the early 20th century, the golden age of bodybuilding dawned with the advent of organized competitions and the rise of iconic figures like Charles Atlas and John Grimek. These pioneers inspired countless individuals to pursue bodybuilding as a means of self-improvement and personal expression. However, it wasn't until the mid-20th century that bodybuilding truly exploded onto the mainstream scene. The emergence of Muscle Beach in California during the 1940s and 1950s provided a platform for bodybuilders to showcase their talents in outdoor gyms along the sunny shores of Venice Beach. This vibrant community of fitness enthusiasts, including legends like Steve Reeves and Reg Park, attracted attention from the media and sparked a cultural phenomenon. The 1960s witnessed the rise of the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB), founded by bodybuilding icon Joe Weider. The IFBB established standardized rules and regulations for competitions, paving the way for the sport's global expansion. During this era, Arnold Schwarzenegger emerged as a dominant force, captivating audiences with his imposing physique and charismatic persona. Schwarzenegger's reign during the 1970s solidified bodybuilding's place in popular culture, inspiring millions to hit the gym and sculpt their bodies. Throughout the late 20th and early 21st centuries, bodybuilding continued to evolve, with athletes pushing the boundaries of muscular development and conditioning. The introduction of new training techniques, nutritional strategies, and supplementation further fueled the sport's growth. Additionally, the emergence of women's bodybuilding and other divisions, such as physique and bikini, diversified the competitive landscape, attracting a more diverse array of athletes. Today, bodybuilding remains a global phenomenon, with competitions held in countries around the world and a dedicated community of enthusiasts spanning all ages and backgrounds. While the sport continues to face scrutiny and stereotypes, its enduring appeal lies in its ability to empower individuals to transform their bodies and minds through discipline, dedication, and hard work. As bodybuilding enters a new era, its rich history serves as a testament to the enduring pursuit of physical excellence and the relentless drive to push the limits of human potential.

It feels really great to be here. Its been a minute, huh? Well there is so much to still talk about so plan for more episodes coming. I'm also going to start bringing my husband on here for the male perspective of things which I think is going to add a really great layer to the show. Let me start this episode by saying.. Bodybuilders are really hard on themselves. I talk about this to my posing students all the time how there is a switch that happens at about the 4 week mark from show. You all get freaking crazy. You start mentally stacking all kinds of nonsense. “I'm not lean enough.” “I don't think I'll be ready.” “I'm not this, I'm not that.”  This kind of self sabotage happens all the time. It's very common in new people to bodybuilding because you don't know what to expect from competing and you are putting yourself out there in public in a way that you likely have never done before. The truth is you are never going to feel like you are ready if you hyper focus on being ready. Let's talk about why you are doing this show in the first place? Maybe you had a really awesome body composition change and decided to make a bodybuilding show your next goal. Maybe you have been thinking about doing a show for 20 years and finally got the courage to go for it. I'm meeting a lot of people who are coming to me for posing assistance in their late 50s which is really awesome. Maybe you were an athlete and you want a new goal to keep you motivated in the gym. Or maybe you were encouraged by the people at your gym to try a show and you figure what the heck you'll try it out. Regardless of why you decided in the first place to do a show, at some point you will realize you are about to be on stage in your underwear wearing orange paint and posing in front of a live audience for a group of 5-7 people to then analyze your appearance. As you get closer to the show day, the anticipation becomes greater and greater. It's almost as if the long process to the stage is a slow peel of a bandaid. Like if you were physically ready the minute you decided to do a show you might run out on stage and be much more confident than you do when you have months of time to obsessively think about the show day and sink further and further into your head. Do you realize that this existence is something you have created in your head?  That you are stressing your own freaking self out?  I've had people reach out to me and say that they are thinking about a show but their cortisol levels are high. First off what does that even mean. What barometer was used to measure your cortisol levels. Although there are people with medical issues, sure, but most of you are responsible for your own stress and it's because of the things you choose to focus on. Our existence is 100% in our head. It's a perception. Everything that has happened to you in the past is stored away in your head. Everything that will happen in the future is also in your head because it is all just a visualization and a possibility. No matter how bonkers it is, it is ALL possible. Your current state, the NOW, is your reality. How do you want to spend this reality? Do you want to spend it obsessing about the zero.185 pounds you gained that you can't snap your fingers and change in this moment. Obsessing about these magical body fat numbers that really mean nothing in a bodybuilding contest that is based on an aesthetic not a number. The constant comparison of yourself to others you see on social media who have completely different bodies, are in different stages of life, and are possibly even enhanced in a way from PED use which means you won't likely look like them unless you are enhanced too.  Is this how you want your existence to be? Would you want to hang out with you? Steve Reeves was a professional bodybuilder in the 1950s who was considered to have one of the most perfectly proportioned physiques. If you know his history you might also know he went on to be a Hollywood super star and played iconic roles like Hercules. Steve is a legend. So is Arnold for his one of a kind physique. Bodybuilding was all about rewarding incredible physiques. These people became legends because they were far above average and had a uniqueness that was untouchable in their time. Their physiques were really special and iconic. Arnold and Steve weren't without competition though. There were many people that wanted to be considered legendary too and gave them a run for their money, but in the end, there can only be one winner. One legend. One icon.  There can be only 1 winner in each category at a bodybuilding show. If you don't win, does that mean you suck? No, it just means someone was better that day and it's an opportunity for you to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and continue working on improvement. You were the best version of you that day. Next time you can be even better. If you have nothing to work towards you have no goal. Having no goal is boring. I am a part of some fitness groups on social media that have a lot of new people to bodybuilding. I see a lot of posts about their contest prep and some even post show. This one post the other day was from a girl who was obsessing about her placement. She placed 4th and after obsessing about the 3rd place person's physique and overly analyzing this other person, she concluded that she should have beat her, and because she didn't, she felt insecure and upset about it. OMG you guys there is a reason there are 5-7 judges on a panel. The goal of the judges is to find a consensus however, judges most of the time don't vote unanimously. Because of the differences between the judges scores you can place a spot up or down just by how the numbers fell. This is a subjective sport. Which leads me to the point of this podcast episode. I realize it's been a minute since my last episode and I promise I will be coming back more regularly. But this thought I had today was one I really felt the need to put out there. I wanted to say it loudly that there has to be more to celebrate when competing in a bodybuilding show than just a 1st place trophy.  Only 1 person is going to win that day and if it's not you, you can't let it lead to your demise. The 5 people judging a show should not have that much control over your inner joy and value. Step on another stage or compete in another federation and the scoring will likely be different. One group of people is not the end all be all. Many of you are putting yourselves out there in public in a way you have never done before. That is incredibly courageous. Many of you have never been on stage except maybe that moment you walked across a stage to receive your high school diploma in front of a large audience.  Many of you have spent years taking care of everyone else and finally decided to do something awesome for yourself that can also be incredibly fun. Many of you who are former athletes have a platform where you can continue being an athlete for the rest of your life if you approach things in a mindful way. And most of you are about to discover that with your hard work and perseverance you can mold your body into a shape and appearance that you never thought was possible.  You did that. Why not let yourself live in this space. Let yourself have it! If you watch Arnold's documentary on netflix you will see that Arnold didn't just build an incredible physique, he built a mental toughness and a confidence that helped him achieve things far beyond just his Mr Universe and Mr Olympia titles. When you start to train, I mean really train, not just go through the motions at the gym and rush through the reps to get the workout done, when you really start to train, you start to build a new conversation with yourself. When you start to see the physique changes and know you did that, you start to believe that you can do more things. When you get closer to your contest and you experience the challenges in getting your body stage ready, you realize you have a higher will power and inner strength that will change your perceptions forever. When you push your strength training, mindfully of course, and push through the pain, you learn your pain tolerance is much higher than you ever thought possible.  So much that I remember a couple years ago I had pain in my stomach that wouldn't go away but I told myself I would just sleep it off and see if it goes away on its own. The next day the pain got to the point that when I stood up, my body said, NOPE, and I went straight back down. It was only at that level of pain that I called my Mom to come pick me up and take me to the hospital. Turned out to be appendicitis. In my head I didn't think the pain was all that bad. I've experienced worse. It was my body that said NOPE.  This is obviously extreme but my point is that pain is also a perception. There is the extreme warning pain like appendicitis that will tell you need to go to the hospital. But the extra rep or two on a leg press machine isn't the kind of pain that is going to take you to the hospital and require surgery. There was a recent post by Arnold where someone had asked him to take a look at his form on a bench press.  This person stopped at 10 reps. Arnold told this person that he couldn't tell him about this form because he wasn't done with the set. Arnold said he had at least 5 more reps in him. The more you train, the more you work on stage presence and performing, the more you challenge yourself and put yourself out there, the more you learn about yourself and will become proud of. The first place trophy is awesome, not gonna lie, but the transformation that you will experience is far more valuable.  The trophy will sit on a shelf somewhere and collect dust. your friends and family will be excited for you but over time your show last year is not going to be the conversations you have with them.  You are going to carry YOU around you all day.  The confidence you exude, the motivational attitude you project, these are things you will carry with you every day if you allow yourself to focus on them and they will likely inspire others to want to do better for themselves.   A recent men's physique student of mine came to one of my official OCB virtual posing clinics I hold for the OCB every month. By the way I teach the posing and stage performances for over 10 federations full time every day so it's an honor to be recognized by a federation for my capabilities, and given the opportunity and the trust to serve their athletes in a very unique way. So this men's physique competitor comes to my clinic wearing a long shirt and a baseball cap. He is planning to do a show in 8 weeks. He has never posed before and keeps his shirt on the whole time. After the clinic he signs up for it weekly virtual posing classes and some virtual 1 on 1s. 8 weeks later you guys would not recognize him. The confidence, the smile, he is beaming with enthusiasm and pride. After the show for an entire week he was telling me he was still feeling the high and excitement from the entire experience and couldn't wait to do it again. This is exactly what I mean about attaching to the transformation not the trophy. Another example. 50+ women's bikini competitor. Says she wants to do one show after thinking about it for 20 years. Is naturally very shy when you meet her. In fact when she first started my virtual posing classes she was stiff, her facial expressions told a story of someone thinking way too much and just going through the motions. Two months later after my signature methods of pulling the super star out of you, she walks on stage for her individual routine and you can hear the audience cheering loudly and in the video you can see the judges nudging each other and clapping for her. She said she was doing one show but is now focusing on doing another in the spring. You guys, THIS is the stuff you should be focusing on. Competing is your chance to be star for the day! To learn things about yourself you never knew possible. To challenge yourself and have a lot of fun in the process. Your vibe attracts your tribe. You can align with people who are alll about the trophy and pro card, there are plenty of those people all over social media. You can focus on and do things that might not be in your long term best interest for the superficial acceptance of winning. Or you can focus on bringing out the uniqueness in you, the transformation within, and FEELING like a champion both on and off the stage whether you win first place or not. The transformation is your greater trophy. Being proud of yourself and motivated by yourself is a far better higher vibrational existence than beating yourself up every day over 5 people's opinions. Ok guys, thanks for listening!  I appreciate all of you who reach out and tell me you are listening to the show. It's really great to know! If you are preparing for a show, no matter if you are brand new or a seasoned veteran you should join my weekly virtual posing practice classes so you are fully prepared for show day. I have 5 of them now.  2 Wednesday nights for all federations broken up by category. I have 2 for the OCB on Sundays by invite only to those who attend one of my official monthly virtual posing clinics for the OCB. And the 5th class is brand new. I just launched it on Sundays at 10:30am EST and called Posing Mechanics for all men and women divisors. All federations too. In the Posing Mechanics class I go micro into the proper execution of all the poses. You will also get a great practice session. Surround yourself in the excitement of competing and let me help you with a transformation you will be proud of. Check out my classes at weeklyposing.com Till next time!

A more modern take on Hercules starring Lou Ferrigno in the lead role. This movie is terrible. I think it regressed from the Steve Reeves movies despite the fact that Lou Ferrigno (yes, the Hulk guy) looks like he literally stepped off of Mount Olympus. You may or may not know that Lou Ferrigno is mostly deaf and has a speech impediment so his lines were actually dubbed pretty well but the special effects are horrible beyond words. This, however, is one of those movies that is so bad it's kind of good. Hercules!

The second and final of the Steve Reeves' Hercules movies. Similar to the first film, Hercules Unchained is bolstered by a solid opening and closing but again is labored (see what I did there?) by a largely boring and unnecessary middle. Still, Steve Reeves' portrayal of the Greco-Roman mythological hero Hercules is fantastic and Hercules Unchained even features an appearance by former World Boxing and World Wrestling champion Primo Carnera! Grab your sword and sandals and let's go fight some monsters!

I am a sucker for Greco-Roman mythology, so I thought I'd check out the much lauded performance of bodybuilder Steve Reeves in the first of his two appearances as Hercules in the 1958 movie of the same name. Obviously, as far as special effects goes, this movie was seriously limited by it's era, but I have to say, Steve Reeves made a pretty darn impressive Hercules. The story took an unneeded detour in the middle which drug things down, but overall, this was a pretty solid movie.

We have held what is probably the world's most comprehensive retrospective of the films of Ed Wood Jr, including films that he directed, wrote the script or book on which it is based. All-in-all 20 films, TV shows and shorts that Wood is linked to. While Ed Wood is often derided as the 'worst director ever', an image that Tim Burton's loving biopic "Ed Wood" (1994) only partly dispels, there is more to him than midnight screening of "Plan 9". We talk to writer and film expert Jim Knipfel, whose article  "Ed Wood: Not Actually The Worst Director in History" goes a long way toward re-appraising Ed Wood, noting that "his films have a unique energy and charm that should be appreciated.""Glen or Glenda" (1953) - It could be argued that G/G is an art film because it has a visual flair and style of its own that would not shame Bunuel. The film is a heartfelt please for compassion and understanding.  "Jail Bait" (1954) - Wood's juvenile delinquent film sees several Woods regulars, such as Lyle Talbot, Steve Reeves and Dolores Fuller, with Herbert Rollins replacing Bela Lugosi, only to die on the last day of shooting."Bride of the Monster" (1955) - Despite what Tim Burton would have you believe, the giant octopus was not broken and Lugosi gives a great performance despite being in bad health by this stage. "Plan 9 From Outer Space" (1959) - This Ed Wood film has been screened and discussed to death, but it is far from the worst film ever made. "Night of the Ghouls" (1959) - A semi-sequel to "Bride of the Monster" and "Plan 9", which completes Wood's sci-fi/horror trilogy and his Kelton the Cop trilogy. It is a perfectly serviceable horror film.  "The Sinister Urge" (1960) - Considered Wood's last legitimate film, this crime 'roughie' is fairly bleak, rough but also more sophisticated, as Wood was getter better at his craft, even as he fought with alcoholism and setbacks. "Orgy of the Dead" (1965) - The film is "an insane, almost artsy, nudie horror picture featuring an endless stream of zombie strippers." In Sweden it was cut up into loop-style single strip numbers. Criswell is also there, but looking worse for wear. "Necromania" (1971) - An early and interesting example of "soft X" film, where genitals and erect penises are shown, but there is no touching them or action. While he will probably always be known as 'the Worst Director of all Time', Ed Wood Jr. is having the last laugh, because we are still watching and discussing his films long after his death. There is a Ed Wood Spotify playlist.

Episode 89 The Theremin Part 2: Recordings After 1970 Playlist Ultimate Spinach, “(Ballad of The) Hip Death Goddess” from Ultimate Spinach (1968 MGM Records). This American psychedelic rock band was from Boston, Massachusetts, although they had a sound that had more an affinity with the free spirit of San Francisco. The Theremin has a prominent part in this song, following the vocalist and filling in some interesting instrumental parts. Bass and Feedback, Richard Nese; Vocals, Drums, Tabla, Bass Drum, Bells, Chimes, Keith Lahteinen; Vocals, Electric Guitar, Guitar, Kazoo, Barbara Hudson; Vocals, Electric Piano, Electric Harpsichord, Organ, Harpsichord, Twelve-String Guitar, Sitar, Harmonica, Wood Flute, Theremin, Celesta, Ian Bruce-Douglas; Vocals, Lead Guitar, Guitar Feedback, Sitar Drone, Electric Sitar, Geoffrey Winthrop. 8:11 Hawkwind, “Paranoia Part 2” from Hawkwind (1970 Liberty). Hawkwind was a pioneering space-rock and psychedelic group from the UK. They were known to use a theremin during their early years—1969 to 1973 and revived its use on stage in later performances using a Moog Etherwave model in the 2000s. This first album features a theremin added to much of the sonic textures, sometimes overtly but often run through effects to provide a looming background, as in this song. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish, but I think there is a theremin providing some of the droning background and then sporadic bursts of tones beginning around 4:25. 14:54 McKendree Spring, “God Bless the Conspiracy” from 3 (1972 Decca). Electric Violin, Viola, Theremin, Michael Dreyfuss; Electronics (Ring Modulator), Tom Oberheim; Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Dulcimer, Fran McKendree; Electric Bass, Larry Tucker; Electric Guitar, Martin Slutsky. This progressive band with experimental leanings was a quartet without a drummer. Dreyfus later said, “In God Bless the Conspiracy and No Regrets I was able to play viola and Theremin at the same time by bringing my body closer to the Theremin (to change pitch) while playing a harmony part on the viola,”(2006). He played a Theremin beginning 1969. He may have used a Moog theremin, such as the Troubadour. 6:53 Linda Cohen, “Horizon Jane” from Lake Of Light (1973 Poppy). Folky album from Philadelphia featuring several electronic musicians. Acoustic Guitar, Bass, Piano, Polytonic Modulator, Jefferson Cain; Classical Guitar, Composer, Linda Cohen; Flute, Stan Slotter; Producer, Electric Guitar, Matrix Electronic Drums, Modulator, Sitar, Synthesizer, Craig Anderton; Minimoog, Theremin, Charles Cohen. 3:36 Ronnie Montrose, “Space Station #5” from Montrose (1973 Warner Brothers). Ronnie Montrose added a custom-built Theremin to his equipment with the pitch antenna mounted on his aluminum (silver) Velano guitar so that he could play both at the same time. Volume for the theremin was controlled by a black box mounted on a mike stand, to which he stood nearby. He was recording with it throughout the 1970s. Here is a great live clip you where you can see how he played it. Note the end of the clip where he put the theremin guitar up against the speaker and wails on the volume control of the theremin control box. Bass, Bill Church; Drums, Denny Carmassi; Guitar, Theremin-Guitar, Ronnie Montrose; Vocals, Sam Hagar. 5:36 Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come, “Time Captives” from Journey (1974 Passport). Fender Bass, Percussion, Vocals, Phil Shutt; Bentley Rhythm Ace, Vocals, Arthur Brown; Electric Guitar, Vocals, Andy Dalby; Mellotron, ARP 2600, EMS VCS 3, Piano, Theremin, Percussion, Vocals, Victor Peraino. 8:37 Michael Quatro, “Get Away” from In Collaboration with The Gods (1975 United Artists Records). Arranged, mixed, performed by Lydia Kavina. 8:11 Lydia Kavina, “Free Music #1,” composed by Percy Grainger from Music from The Ether, Original Works For Theremin (1999 Mode). TVox Tour model theremin, Lydia Kavina; mixed and spatialized, Steve Puntolillo. This work was originally written for theremin although Grainger had many ideas around how this type of “free music” should be played. This native Australian was fascinated by the sounds of the real world and invented a mechanical machine for making such sounds. In 1938, Grainger said, "...Out in nature we hear all kinds of lovely and touching 'free' (non-harmonic) combinations of tones, yet we are unable to take up these beauties and expressiveness into the art of music because of our archaic notions of harmony.” His adaptation of free music for theremin was an attempt to create sounds that were new to music. This version was multitracked by Kavina and an old acquaintance of mine, sound engineer Steve Puntolillo, to recreate the parts for four theremins. 1:19 The Kurstins, “Sunshine” from Gymnopedie (2000 Rouge Records). Composed by Roy Ayers; Minimoog, ARP String Ensemble, Organ, Guitar, Sampler, Drums, Rhodes Electric Piano, Greg Kurstin; Moog Theremin, Theremin Vocoder, Moogerfoogers, Pamelia Kurstin. 3:47 The Kurstins, “Outside” from Gymnopedie (2000 Rouge Records). Drums, Sebastian Merk; Music By, Contrabass Flute, Sampler, programmed, engineered, produced, and recorded by Tilmann Dehnhard; Trumpet, Arve Henriksen. 4:01 Herb Deutsch, “Longing” from Theremin One Hundred Years (2020 Electronic Sound). Composer, Herb Deutsch; Piano, Nancy Deutsch; Moog Melodia Theremin, Daryl Kubian. Recording from 2012. The beloved Herb Deutsch, who died recently at age 90, was an early collaborator with Bob Moog on the creation of the synthesizer. Herb became acquainted with Bob by purchasing a Theremin kit—a Moog Melodia model, in the early 1960s. He was primarily responsible for convincing Moog to add a keyboard to his modular unit. Also, this is taken from a terrific compilation of modern Theremin artists to benefit the New York Theremin Society. Check it out. 3:38 M83, “Sitting” from M83 (2016 Lowlands Festival). This is a live recording from Holland. “Sitting” was a song on M83's first album in 2001. But it didn't have a theremin part until they decided to spice-up the live interpretation of the song in 2016. Jordan Lawlor uses a Moog Theremini when M83 performs this in concert. He puts down his guitar, grabs some drum sticks, beats a rhythm on some electronic drums while dancing in place and moving his hands around a theremin. You can hear the theremin in this track but don't mistake it for the keyboard tones that Gonzalez is playing on his modular system. A longer sequence of theremin begins at 1:38 in the audio. You can view the video here, beginning at 26:54 into the show. M83 is a French electronica band founded in 1999 by Anthony Gonzalez, who remains the only sole member from the original outfit. Performing members on this live tour included: Anthony Gonzalez, lead vocals, modular synthesizers, keyboards, guitars, piano, bass, drums, percussion, programming, arrangement, mixer, production; Loïc Maurin, drums, percussion, guitar, bass, keyboards; Jordan Lawlor, guitars, vocals, multi-instrumentalist; Kaela Sinclair, Dave Smith and M-Audio keyboards, vocals; Joe Berry, piano, synthesizers, electronic wind instrument, saxophone. 4:03 Radio Science Orchestra, “Theme from Doctor Who” (2019). This UK-based band unites theremin, ondes martenot, Moog and modular electronics, for its performances. They've played such events as the TEDSummit, the British Library, and Glastonbury Festival. They made a concert recording with Lydia Kavina in 2009 of the Theme from Doctor Who. This version was made more recently and appears to also include Kavina. She plays the TVox Tour model theremin made by her husband G. Pavlov. 2:18 Thorwald Jørgensen, Kamilla Bystrova, “Moderato” from Air électrique: Original Music For Theremin And Piano (2020 Zefir). Jørgensen is an accomplished Dutch classical theremin player. Piano, Kamilla Bystrova; Liner Notes, Design, Moog Etherwave Pro Theremin, Thorwald Jørgensen. 2:10 Dorit Chrysler, “A Happy Place” from Theremin One Hundred Years (2020 Electronic Sound). Issued with the magazine's 7” vinyl and magazine bundle Electronic Sound Magazine, issue 70. Written, produced, and performed by Dorit Chrysler. 2:06 Dorit Chrysler, “Calder Plays Theremin Side A” from Calder Plays Theremin (2023 NY Theremin Society/Fridman Gallery) Written for Theremin Orchestra in 5 Movements, Chrysler's work is based on a commissioned sound piece by The Museum of Modern Art in conjunction with the exhibition Alexander Calder: Modern from the Start. Chrysler identified two of Alexander Calder's sculptures, Snow Flurry, I (1948) and Man-Eater with Pennants (1945), to interact and “play” multiple Theremins on site. I believe the Theremin are various Moog models. Calder Plays Theremin is a co-release of the NY Theremin Society and Fridman Gallery. 8:48   Opening background tracks: Ronnie Montrose, “Open Fire” (excerpt) from Open Fire (1978 Warner Brothers). Bass, Alan Fitzgerald; Drums, Rick Shlosser; Guitar, Custom-built Theremin mpounted to his electric guitar, Ronnie Montrose; composed by Edgar Winter, Ronnie Montrose. 2:09 Hooverphonic, “‎L'Odeur Animale” from The Magnificent Tree (2000 Columbia). Guitar, Raymond Geerts; Keyboards, Bass, Programmed by Alex Callier; Vocals, Geike Arnaert; Maestro Theremin, trumpet, Youseff Yancy; Fairlight, Effects, Dan Lacksman. 3:46. Opening and closing sequences voiced by Anne Benkovitz. Additional opening, closing, and other incidental music by Thom Holmes. Lou Ferrigno is a fitness icon, motivational speaker and Co- Founder of Ferrigno FIT. As an infant, Lou suffered a series of ear infections and lost 80% of his hearing (though his condition was not diagnosed until he was three years old). This circumstance led to bullying both in school and at home. Lost and unhappy, Lou turned to larger-than-life figures like actor/bodybuilder Steve Reeves and Marvel's The Incredible Hulk for inspiration. Undeterred by what some may have perceived as a disadvantage, Lou threw himself into athletics at age 13 (predominantly weightlifting and bodybuilding). By age 21, Lou won his first major titles: Mr. America and Mr. Universe. At 22, he came in second at his first attempt at the Mr. Olympia title. His second attempt at the title was documented the following year in the film Pumping Iron. The release of this film helped gain the attention of television producer Kenneth Johnson (Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman), who was seeking the right person to portray the larger-than-life comic book superhero, The Incredible Hulk. With his 6 ft 5 in, 285 lb. frame, Lou was the biggest professional bodybuilder at the time and was cast. He would go on to be featured in CBS' King of Queens, DreamWorks' I Love You, Man and NBC's Celebrity Apprentice.

Lou Ferrigno is an American actor, fitness trainer, fitness consultant, and retired professional bodybuilder. As a bodybuilder, Ferrigno won an IFBB Mr. America title and two consecutive IFBB Mr. Universe titles and appeared in the bodybuilding documentary Pumping Iron. As an actor, he is best known for his title role in the CBS television series The Incredible Hulk and vocally reprising the role in subsequent animated and computer-generated incarnations. He has also appeared in European-produced fantasy-adventures such as Sinbad of the Seven Seas and Hercules, and as himself in the sitcom The King of Queen sand the 2009 comedy I Love You, Man. Lou Ferrigno was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Victoria and Matt Ferrigno, a police lieutenant. He is of Italian descent. Soon after he was born, Ferrigno says he believes he suffered a series of ear infections and lost 75 to 80% of his hearing, though his condition was not diagnosed until he was three years old. Hearing loss caused Ferrigno to be bullied by peers during his childhood: “They used to call me ‘deaf Louie, deaf-mute’, because of my hearing and because of the way I sounded.” Ferrigno started weight training at age 13, citing body builder and Hercules star Steve Reeves as one of his role models. Because he could not afford to buy weights, he made his own using a broomstick and pails which he partially filled with cement.  He was also a fan of the Hercules films that starred Reeves. Ferrigno’s other personal heroes as a child were Spider-Man and the Hulk. Ferrigno attended St. Athanasius Grammar School and Brooklyn Technical High School, where he learned metalworking. After graduating from high school in 1969, Ferrigno won his first major title, IFBB Mr. America. Four years later, he won the title IFBB Mr. Universe. Early in his career he lived in Columbus, Ohio and trained with Arnold Schwarzenegger. In 1974, he came in second on his first attempt at the Mr. Olympia competition. He came in third the following year, and his attempt to beat Arnold Schwarzenegger was the subject of the 1977 documentary Pumping Iron. The documentary made Ferrigno famous. These victories, however, did not provide enough income for him to earn a living. His first paying job was as a $10-an-hour sheet metal worker in a Brooklyn factory, where he worked for three years. He did not enjoy the dangerous work and left after a friend and co-worker accidentally cut off his own hand one day. Following this, Ferrigno left the competition circuit for many years, a period that included a brief stint as a defensive lineman for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League. He had never played football and was cut after two games. Ferrigno left the world of Canadian football after he broke the legs of a fellow player during a scrimmage. During the competition, Ferrigno at 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) weighed 268 lb (130 kg) in 1975, and 315 lb (142 kg) in 1992. Ferrigno competed in the first annual World’s Strongest Man competition in 1977, where he finished fourth in a field of eight competitors. In the early 1990s, Ferrigno returned to bodybuilding, competing for the 1992 and 1993 Mr. Olympia titles. Finishing 12th and 10th, respectively, he then turned to the 1994 Masters Olympia, where his attempt to beat Robbie Robinson and Boyer Coe was the subject of the 1996 documentary Stand Tall. After this, he retired from competition.

I unpack the three most useful books I've studied over the years to build the physique I have today and unpack the principles I will be using over the next 8-10 years before I step on stage with the purpose of earning a professional bodybuilding title. The first two books are timeless, old-school classics that should really be a part of any athlete's library. The third book is an essential to bodybuilding competitors but will have little benefit to those who have no wish to ever compete. In this case you can sign off after the first 30 minutes and I won't be heart-broken. This audio is a compilation of three Instagram live streams so you can hear me interacting with some friends here and there. Bodybuilding has a long history as a physique transformation tool. Tales of Eugen Sandow lifting and flexing go back as far as the late 1800s. You can even follow along throughout history and read about how bodybuilders such as Steve Reeves, John Grimek, Reg Park, Arnold, Franco, Dorian, and Ronnie, trained and dieted. Learning the best practices of each era is fascinating. I would call the past decade the "evidence-based era." As more research around training and nutrition becomes available, it shapes our thought process on what the rules of bodybuilding are. In today's episode, we dig into the new rules of bodybuilding. What are the current best practices for determining training volume, rep ranges, and how often you should go to failure? How important is beating the logbook? What are the best exercises for building muscle, and is there a better way to cut and bulk? Dustin Plantholt’s “Life’s Tough—You Can Be Tougher” podcast this week features Lou Ferrigno, an American actor, motivational speaker, fitness trainer/consultant, and celebrated professional bodybuilder (retired). As a bodybuilder, Lou won an IFBB Mr. America title and two consecutive IFBB Mr. Universetitles; and as an actor, he is best known for portraying the title role in the CBS television series, The Incredible Hulk. Lou was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Victoria and Matty Ferrigno—an Italian-American police lieutenant. Soon after birth, Lou suffered a series of ear infections and lost 75% of his hearing (though his condition was not diagnosed until he was three years old). Wearing hearing aids since the age of five, Lou credits his hearing loss in shaping his sense of determination in his youth, saying "I think that if I wasn't hard of hearing I wouldn't be where I am now. Early on, as a youngster it was difficult, but I'm not ashamed to talk about it because many people have misconceptions about hearing loss; like who has hearing loss and what it's like not to hear, so I do talk about it. I think my hearing loss helped create a determination within me to be all that I can be—and gave me a certain strength of character too.” Undeterred by what many would perceive as a disadvantage, Lou threw himself into athletics (predominantly weightlifting and bodybuilding) and started weight training at age 13, citing bodybuilder and Hercules-star Steve Reeves as one of his role models. He was also a fan of the Hercules films that starred Reeves and would later himself play Hercules. Lou’s other childhood heroes included Spider-Man and the Hulk—which he would also play later on television. Throughout his early bodybuilding career Lou worked as a sheet metal worker in a Brooklyn factory. Citing dangerous work, he left after a friend and co-worker accidentally cut off his hand. Through faith in himself and unrelenting determination to be among the best in the sport, Lou won his first major bodybuilding titles in 1973 – IFBB Mr. America and IFBB Mr. Universe. Lou was only 21 when he won his first Mr. Universe title, a Guinness Book world record that stands to this day. In 1974, he came in second on his first attempt at the Mr. Olympia competition. He came in third the following year, which was documented in the now-iconic bodybuilding documentary, Pumping Iron. 1977 was a turning point in Lou’s life with the release of Pumping Iron, which brought the attention of television producer Kenneth Johnson (Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, V, Alien Nation), who was seeking the right person to portray the larger-than-life comic book superhero, The Incredible Hulk. With his 6′ 5″, 285 lb. frame, Lou was the biggest professional bodybuilder at the time. He auditioned for and won the part, beating out fellow bodybuilder, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Lou continued playing the Hulk role until 1981, as it was a huge ratings success that spawned several TV movies after the initial TV series completed its run. It also kept Lou busy for several years as an actor in films that included Hercules (1983), Sinbad of the Seven Seas (1989) and Cage (1989). On May 3, 1980, Lou married psychotherapist Carla Green, who then also began serving as his manager and later became a personal trainer herself. Along with their three children, Shana, Louie and Brent, they are endearingly referred to as “The First Family of Bodybuilding”—living and promoting a fit and healthy lifestyle. In his admirable desire to give back to his community, in February 2006, Lou was sworn in as both a Los Angeles County, California Deputy Sheriff, as well as a San Luis Obispo County Deputy Sheriff. Join Dustin and Lou for an honest and lighthearted conversation on Lou’s multi-faceted career and how he overcame adversity at a young age to rise strong, take control and lead and inspire others. “It always fascinates me how I can connect with the people…teach them about leadership,” Ferrigno says. “Take care of your body…exercise…feel good about yourself. Be disciplined like myself as a body builder…so that effects other things you do in your life.”

Born into a stiff, lower middle class Austrian background just after the war, Arnold Schwarzenegger rebelled from his rigid father and proscribed life at an early age, eschewing the family plans for his life and career to pursue a rocky road in the dubious world of bodybuilding. Idolizing the likes of up and coming cinematic pepla stars like Steve Reeves and especially Reg Park, the young Arnold followed his dreams from breaking into local gyms to work out on off hours to participating in international contests and a solo move to America, without even possessing a proper command of the English language. Catching the attention of big names in the physical fitness field like Britain's Wag Bennett and America's Joe Wieder, the young up and comer became the face of Wieder's supplement and equipment empire for many a year, his association with the famed Muscle and Fitness magazine running well into recent years. Taking major titles like Mr. Olympia and Mr. Universe multiple times apiece, by the time the documentary Pumping Iron popularized what had been seen as something of a mockable geek sideshow into the exercise craze of the past 40 years, he'd already starred in two feature films as lead or top billed costar to big names like Jeff Bridges, Sally Field and even ubiquitous comedian/voice actor Arnold Stang...and the best was yet to come. For with the dawn of the 1980s came a starring role in a grim, philosophical take on Robert E. Howard's famed barbarian warrior and king...and a long career in quip-heavy, surprisingly light hearted action cinema began. Parlaying his successes in both bodybuilding and cinema into a political career, he's become not only a two term state governor, but expanding his ostensible party politik to become one of the more outspoken voices both for green initiatives and against perhaps the most corrupt administration ever to sit in office... Always surprising, never stagnating, tonight we celebrate the life and films of the Austrian Oak and Governator himself, the inimitable Arnold Schwarzenegger! https://construyetufisico.com/fisiologia-ejercicio/cuerpo-musculado-que-seduzca-a-mujeres/ ¿Qué es un cuerpo atractivo? Plitt mide 1,85 y pesa 88 kilos.

Also the show provides real quick up front tips on taxes, dentistry, and surgery. Bruce Lee Podcast

Bruce Lee lived his life as a human being who was connected to all of humankind—one unified family on this planet. He said, “You know how I like to think of myself? As a human being. Because under then sky, under the heavens, there is but one family.” What we need, especially in these divided times, is a message of unity and connection. Bruce Lee has a way of uniting people, and his fans are global. We continue to hear stories of how Bruce has affected so many different people from all around the world. One such story is about the town of Mostar in Bosnia, After years of enduring a violent civil war, they finally reached peace and wanted to build a monument that symbolized this new peace. They decided to construct a statue of Bruce Lee as a “symbol the whole community could rally behind” and a “monument to the idea of universal justice, one idea having that justice, knowledge, honesty, good intentions can fight against corruption, evil, ignorance.” To many people around the world, Bruce Lee symbolizes an energy of universal justice because he lived with integrity, advocated for the underdog and dedicated his life to self actualization and being in harmony with his fellow man, his community and the planet. No matter where Bruce was in his life, his close friends said he always treated people the same and authentically—no matter who they were. His wife Linda would say that Bruce looked at everyone evenly. “Wisdom does not consist in trying to wrest the good from the evil but in learning to “ride” them as a cork adapts itself to the crests and troughs of the waves.” “The world is to be seen as an inseparable, interrelated field, no part of which can actually be separated from the other. Oppositions are mutually dependent instead of mutually dependent instead of mutually exclusive, and there is no longer any conflict between the individual man and nature. That is, there can be no bright stars without dim stars, and, without the surrounding darkness, no stars at all.” Take Action: Think of something you can do to create unity energy in your life and try to take action towards it. Think of a person who you would normally have judgment for, and try to have compassion for them instead. #AAHA Allen Joe is credited with giving Bruce Lee his first set of weights and inspiring Bruce to build up his body. Allen trained under Ed Yarick with such luminaries as the four Mr. America Body Building Championships: Clancy Ross, Jack Delinger, Roy Hilligenn, and Hercules-actor Steve Reeves. In fact, Allen was the first Asian to win the Mr. Northern California Bodybuilding Championship in 1946. He is also a World War II veteran, Allen currently 94 years old says, “you can never forget Bruce, once you have met him” and indeed, he still carries a picture of Bruce in his wallet. #BruceLeeMoment This week’s moment comes from Khnum “Stic” Ibomu (dead prez): “I am a hip hop artist and producer (dead prez), and Bruce Lee's legacy and philosophy has been one of my greatest inspirations. I am writing this letter to express my sincere gratitude for the impactful work you are doing to continue sharing the legacy of your father in a way that is tremendously helpful for others. I can't put into words how much of an inspiration and personal contribution he has made and continues to make in my life. I truly appreciate the podcast and how much love goes into sharing his philosophy and making the concepts tangible and actionable. Bruce's wisdom is immeasurably valuable and your eloquent unpacking has given me new layers of perspective and invigoration. Thanks to Bruce's inspiration, I realized that I am not limited to fit in any one box and I've been able to explore and develop many aspects of my self from the "no way as the way" Philosophy I have adopted from His teachings.” Share your #AAHAs, #BruceLeeMoments, and #TakeAction progress with us at hello@brucelee.com Find the full version of our show notes at BruceLee.com/podcast

Life long childhood friends Tom Stewart and John Curren discuss how clarity of vision will drive you forward. They start the show with Feelin' down and dirty, feelin' kind of mean a lyric from the band Foreigner's song Double Vision." I've been from one to another extreme". is another lyric that perfectly describes a swift kick in the ass. Pictures can say a thousand words. A picture of where you want to be in life can help you attain what you want out of your life. The big picture you create in your mind will help you get to your main goal.  Arnold Schwarzenegger would imagine his biceps were mountains while preparing for the Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia contests. He knew that he wanted to be the best body builder in the world that would eventually become an actor like his hero Steve Reeves. Seek solitude to discover what your vision might be. Jesus, Moses, Buddha and Mohammad all sought solitude before they had their great visions. Focus on the here and now. Control what you can do and do not depend on others to attain your goals. Focus on what you want and not what others expect of you. You must belief in yourself even when others doubt you. Do not allow fear or imagination to keep you from attaining your vision. Acronym for fear is Fantasy Expectation Appearing Real. Your vision can change over time due to life experience and changes in values.

2pm ET / 1pm CT / 12pm MT / 11am PT (Outside US: Dial 00 + 1 + 714-464-4891) Viki Winterton interviews Steve Hayes!  British born Ivan Hayes first arrived in Hollywood in 1949 and moved there permanently in 1950. An actor for ten years, he worked in movies at MGM, Warner Bros., Paramount, Columbia, RKO, Universal Studios and the Samuel Goldwyn Studios as well as in early network television and radio. While he was under contract at 20th Century Fox, the studio insisted Ivan find a more American-sounding name. He chose Steve, after the name of his friend Steve Reeves, a former Mr. Universe who later became world-famous as "Hercules." When not acting or writing books and screenplays, Steve helped support himself by working in restaurants and parking cars at Hollywood's glamorous Sunset Strip nightspots like the Mocambo, Ciro's, Villa Nova, and The Players. He also did detective work for the Fred Otash Detective Agency and painted movie stars' homes and famous places like the Garden of Allah. Then, in 1954, he became night manager of Googie's, a popular coffee shop next to Schwab's Drugstore that was made famous by James Dean, John Saxon, Natalie Wood, Rod Steiger, James Garner, Jayne Mansfield and other celebrities like western writer Louis L'Amour and Hollywood gossip columnist Sidney Skolsky. During that time Steve befriended numerous movie stars like Errol Flynn, Tyrone Power, Marilyn Monroe, Ava Gardner, Clark Gable, Alan Ladd, Lana Turner, Sterling Hayden and Robert Middleton, all of whom influenced his life and gave him material for his recently published two-volume memoirs, Googie's: Coffee Shop to the Stars. Steve still writes novels and screenplays and presently lives at the beach in Huntington Beach, California, with his lovely wife of twenty-five years, Robbin.
