Das N64 kehrt zurück! Als FPGA-Konsole Analogue 3D zumindest. Wie alle Geräte von Analogue sieht auch das 3D wieder sehr ansprechend aus und verbindet authentisches Retro-Gaming mit modernen Features wie einem Upscaler auf 4K und Bluetooth, womit man kabellos Controller verbinden kann, bietet aber auch die klassischen vier Anschlüsse für N64-Controller. Laut Analogue ist es mit allen N64-Spielen bzw. allen original Modulen kompatibel; im Gegensatz zum Analogue Poket wird nicht openFPGA unterstützt, mit dem man dort weitere Cores laden kann. Qualcomm kündigte vor einiger Zeit ein Devkit auf Basis des Snapdragon X Elite an, also eine Art Mini-PC, auf dem Entwickler ihre Apps testen und debuggen können sollten. Dieses Devkit stellt Qualcomm nun ein, bevor es überhaupt breit verfügbar war (ein paar hatten es wohl irgendwie bekommen), es habe die eigenen Standards nicht erfüllt. Was heißt das nun für Windows-on-ARM? Keine Ahnung, wahrscheinlich gar nichts besonderes. Wir haben uns das Xbox Partner Event angesehen, es war kurz und kurzweilig, aber auch nicht übermäßig spannend. Ganz besonders erfreulich: Wir haben diesmal nicht zwei Stunden dafür gebraucht, sondern konnten uns darauf konzentrieren, hier und da ein paar Highlights hervorzuheben. It improves the experience of working with almost all code bases which use modern .NET, and includes the ability to even run and explore your unit tests within VS Code - something that wasn't easily doable previously. I know before C# Dev Kit existed, the Test Explorer is a window that exists by default in VS Code. But yeah, you're already laughing like, "oh yeah." So it wasn't very great pre Dev Kit from my understanding, like simple things such as being able to automatically recognise your test once you build your test project. That was not a thing, which blows my mind. I'm like, "but then what are you supposed to do? Just manually add them in? That doesn't sound fun at all, especially if you're trying to do the whole test-driven development." You've got tests everywhere and it's like, "well, that's 50 some tests I have to log in. Yippee. I love testing." Yeah, I can't imagine that's a great experience. So thankfully, with C# Dev Kit, we've actually made the window functional. I know, bare minimum, but I still think it's pretty good. So when you build your test projects, it should be able to recognize everything that you have registered as a test via like a test method attribute or whatever kind of test type that you're using —Leslie Richardson So let's sit back, open up a terminal, type in dotnet new podcast and we'll dive into the core of Modern .NET. Today we talk post the future of the post-Covid gaming industry, and how it will fair, along with the latest information from the Steam Deck Dev Kits, and the Fall lineup for the Switch.

Valve has announced that the Steam Deck Dev Kit request form is now open for developers. Valve dropped the announcement and request form over in the Steamworks forum, informing developers that Dev Kit supplies are limited, and they'll be reviewing requests on a case-by-case basis. Developers interested in acquiring a kit and developing software specifically for the platform can link with other developers on the Steam Deck forum. If you're working on a game for Steam right now and are trying to determine if you need a Dev Kit—you should definitely remember that Valve has promised most games will work on the platform thanks to Proton, which allows many Windows games to run on the Linux-based Steam OS that powers the Steam Deck. Valve has said that “most games” tested on the Steam Deck are running fine and at 30 frames per second, but cross-checking websites like ProtonDB does show that some games aren't properly optimized to run on the OS at this moment.
