Malmstrom AFB UFO Encounter

Alien Conspiracy Podcast

Check out all of our wonderful links, on the linktree: https://linktr.ee/allts A possibly inaccurate summary from chat gpt:  The Malmstrom Air Force Base UFO encounter is one of the most well-known and intriguing UFO incidents involving a U.S. military installation. It took place in March 1967 at the Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana, which houses intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) as part of the U.S. nuclear defense system. The events surrounding the encounter are significant because they involve the reported shutdown of nuclear missiles during the sighting of an unidentified flying object. Here's a breakdown of what happened: The Incident: On the morning of March 24, 1967, Air Force personnel stationed at the base reported witnessing strange, unidentified flying objects in the vicinity. The most notable part of the encounter occurred at Oscar Flight, one of the missile alert facilities within the base, where 10 Minuteman I ICBMs were housed. According to Robert Salas, who was the Deputy Missile Combat Crew Commander on duty that morning, a bright, glowing red object was observed hovering outside the facility. Around the same time, Salas received a frantic call from one of the security guards topside, reporting a UFO hovering near the front gate of the base. Shortly after this call, several of the Minuteman I missiles went into a "no-go" status, meaning they were disabled and could not be launched. Salas recalls that this occurred without any plausible explanation; no external reason for the missile shutdown could be identified at the time. The Air Force has protocols for missile shutdowns, but the simultaneous disabling of multiple missiles was highly unusual. In a separate but related event, Captain Eric Carlson and First Lieutenant Walt Figel reported a similar experience earlier that same month at another missile site, where their missiles also went offline during the presence of a UFO. Witnesses: The primary witnesses in this incident include Robert Salas, who has spoken extensively about the event, particularly after retiring from the military. He has written about it in his book, "Faded Giant" (co-authored with James Klotz). Other key witnesses include missile maintenance and security personnel stationed at the base at the time, some of whom reported seeing strange lights or craft in the sky. Walt Figel, who was also on duty during the event, confirmed that a UFO was reported, but his statements over the years have been somewhat more reserved than Salas's. Eric Carlson, Figel's commanding officer, has been more skeptical about UFOs but confirmed that the missile shutdowns occurred as described. Investigation: The Air Force investigated the missile shutdowns, but the incident was officially categorized under the Project Blue Book investigation, which was the U.S. Air Force's effort to analyze UFO reports between 1952 and 1969. However, Project Blue Book was officially closed in 1969, concluding that most UFO sightings could be explained by natural or man-made phenomena. As far as the Malmstrom incident, the Air Force attributed the missile shutdown to an electronic malfunction, although no specific technical explanation for the system failure was ever provided publicly. UFO researchers, however, argue that the timing of the UFO sighting and the missile malfunctions was more than coincidental. In later years, declassified documents and testimonies from the event have continued to stir debate within the UFO community and among former military personnel. Aftermath: The incident gained more public attention in the late 1990s and 2000s when former personnel like Robert Salas came forward with their accounts, and various documents related to the event were declassified under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). In 2010, Salas and other military personnel, including retired Air Force Captain Robert Jamison, held a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., to discuss UFO incidents involving nuclear sites. They claimed that such incidents were not isolated and that UFOs had interfered with nuclear weapons in the U.S. and other countries. The event has since been a focal point in UFO discussions, particularly regarding the interest these unidentified objects seem to have in nuclear facilities. Some researchers speculate that UFOs are particularly interested in the military's nuclear capabilities, possibly as a form of surveillance or even intervention. Conclusion: The Malmstrom Air Force Base UFO encounter is notable not only for the sighting of a mysterious flying object but for its connection to the temporary disabling of nuclear missiles. Although the Air Force has never officially acknowledged any extraterrestrial involvement, the testimonies of former military personnel continue to fuel speculation about the significance of the event. To this day, the Malmstrom incident remains one of the most compelling UFO cases involving nuclear weapons and raises questions about the potential link between UFO sightings and nuclear facilities.

Welcome to the daily304 – your window into Wonderful, Almost Heaven, West Virginia.   Today is Sunday, Sept. 10  Recent data shows tourism in West Virginia continues to grow by leaps and bounds…the Mountain State's forest products industry generates $3.2 billion a year…and, thinking of digging ginseng? The medicinal herb has many uses, but Forestry wants to make sure you follow the rules...on today's daily304. #1 – From THE GAZETTE-MAIL – West Virginia's tourism industry continues to grow year over year, according to West Virginia Department of Tourism data revealed at the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce's annual business summit recently at The Greenbrier Resort. The data show West Virginia tourism-related content received more than 7 billion impressions in 2022 — more than doubling 2021 numbers. Visitor spending generated more than $754 million in tax revenue for the state that same year. “We have the newest national park in 2022 and West Virginia was the only state to get on every major travel list,” Chamber President and CEO Tricia Ball said. “CNN named us as one of the most underrated travel destinations. USA Today named us a top family destination and Lovely Planet ranked us as the No. 2 travel region ranking only behind Iceland.” According to the West Virginia Department of Tourism, the industry accounts for about 44,000 jobs across the state and 21,000 job openings are projected within the next few years. Read more: https://www.wvgazettemail.com/business/officials-discuss-moving-wv-tourism-forward-at-business-summit/article_2f812c33-a303-5600-805e-2c4a9729f663.html   #2 – From WV EXECUTIVE –  While many associate the Mountain State solely with the energy industry, its nickname conjures up a different image. West Virginia's beautiful, forested mountains make it the second-leading hardwood state in the country, ranked third nationally by percentage of forested land.  The forest products industry—which is made up of loggers, sawmills, dry kilns, veneer plants and furniture and rustic rail fence producers—generates $3.2 billion for the state economy every year and employs more than 30,000 people in highly skilled and technical positions. Companies such as AHF Products, Gat Creek, Weyerhaeuser and Columbia Forest Products, among others, make use of the state's 12 million acres of forestland and 75 billion board feet of timber inventory in an industry that reaches all 55 counties. The promise of expansion, sustainability and an already skilled workforce positions West Virginia as a critical provider of hardwoods as more and more companies focus on utilizing sustainable products, according to Eric Carlson, executive director of the West Virginia Forestry Association.  Carlson said he would also like to see more secondary and finish manufacturing investments and new products, as well as innovation in harvesting equipment, develop in the Mountain State. “We have seen great cooperation with the state's economic development team to date, but we also need private equity investment to modernize the entire supply chain,” he says. “Like many businesses, it takes years to recoup the initial investment, and market demand for products is crucial.” Read more: https://wvexecutive.com/fundamental-forest-products/   #3 – From THE REGISTER-HERALD – Ginseng season is underway in West Virginia and runs through Nov. 30 Wild ginseng has been an ingredient in Appalachian culture, as well as medicinal folklore, for generations. West Virginia 'seng diggers have been looking to make money from the golden root for nearly 200 years. It has been used for centuries in North America and Asia for its purported medicinal properties. According to traditional folklore, ginseng roots are used in teas, soups, and medicines to treat sickness, increase vitality, relieve mental and physical fatigue, and prolong life. The West Virginia Division of Forestry closely monitors the harvesting of ginseng to protect ginseng supplies for the future. If you're a ginseng digger, consult (and heed!) the rules and regulations posted at wvforestry.com/ginseng-program. The site includes resources such as lists of West Virginia ginseng dealers and weigh stations. The Opus is halfway across the Bridge. What does Alex Jones, Beyoncé's Lemonade, and Simon and Garfunkel have in common? More than you think! In 1969, the two bards were asked to make a TV special to debut 1970's Bridge over Troubled Water. Rather than opting for the traditional approach -- think: Elvis Presley's 1968 comeback special -- they created a visual album. Ring a bell? Songs Of America, directed by Charles Grodin (yes, that Charles Grodin), was an experimental, non-linear, collage of live footage, behind-the-scenes shots, and proto-music videos set to news footage from the turbulent 60's. The result cost them their lead sponsor, pissed off a million Americans, and even lead to death threats if you can believe that. Host Andy Bothwell speaks to culture reporter Steve Marsh (GQ/Esquire/Pitchfork) on what caused this film to illicit such a strong reaction from America. He also connects with Bon Iver's design team and video directors Eric Carlson and Aaron Anderson, who weighin on the through-lines between their work and this 50-year-old TV special.
