The finale of The Road to First Light series is here. I am beyond excited for the upcoming James Bond game from IO Interactive and to close out this series I thought it would be appropriate to discuss at least one game that IO developed, the game that got me into the Hitman series, Hitman 2016. I am joined by Seth from the Classic Gaming Brothers podcast to talk about why this game is so damn good. What makes it unique compared to most other 3rd person action games out there and how it feels like IO is the perfect fit for the Bond license. So grab some coins and some bad acting lessons and join us for this wonderful discussion on Hitman. In this week's episode, we dive into The New Confessions of an Economic Hitman, unpacking a chilling account of how modern empire operates — not through open warfare, but through debt, fear, and economic manipulation. We explore the book's central claim: that a global “corporatocracy” quietly shapes world events by ensnaring nations in financial dependency. Through inflated economic forecasts, engineered loans, and strategic political influence, countries are drawn into a web of obligation that benefits multinational corporations while leaving local populations burdened with austerity, instability, and widening inequality. We examine the three-tier model described in the book — the Economic Hitman, the Jackal, and finally the Military — and what it suggests about how power is enforced when persuasion fails. We also reflect on the psychology behind the system. How do intelligent, well-meaning individuals become instruments of exploitation? The book's personal narrative reveals how ambition, rationalisation, and gradual compromise can turn “development work” into economic colonisation. We discuss the idea that the system persists not only because of corruption at the top, but because of silence, complicity, and incentives that reward short-term gain over long-term wellbeing.Beyond historical examples — from Iran and Panama to Ecuador and Saudi Arabia — we consider how the strategy has evolved. Today's tools may include subsidies, tax incentives, vulture funds, private military contractors, and financial engineering that shifts public wealth into corporate hands. We examine the provocative assertion that both Western powers and rising powers like China deploy similar debt-based leverage, and what this means for a multipolar world shaped by financial rather than territorial conquest. Finally, we turn to the book's most hopeful dimension: the call to move from what it describes as a “death economy” — driven by extraction, fear, and scarcity — toward a “life economy” rooted in responsibility, cooperation, and conscious choice. We discuss the practical implications of this shift, including ethical consumption, community resilience, campaign finance reform, and the power of narrative in shaping incentives.Join us for a conversation that blends geopolitics, economics, ethics, and systems thinking. This episode challenges comfortable assumptions about development, aid, and global power — and asks a deeper question: if fear and debt sustain modern empires, what would it take to build something different? All the love, all the power, all of the time!If you'd like to support the podcast, follow this link: https://linktr.ee/w.salskiInstagram: / unusual.stories_podcast YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@WS_PodcastPrimal.net: @wspodcastLink to the book on Amazon: https://amzn.eu/d/014J2ks6Related Media: "Let's Talk About Money" - https://open.spotify.com/episode/75naEHqjZy1fcObsjjhFec?si=f1718052b4e240a7"Why You Shouldn't Buy Bitcoin?" - https://open.spotify.com/episode/5puvUXQwUH5GRNgQjVgZL9?si=e4fdf02e266f4e3f"The Bitcoin Standard" - https://open.spotify.com/episode/4AtMl4N6FXmfwo8CVueBvk?si=ce961af3d7df427f"The Creature from Jekyll Island" - https://open.spotify.com/episode/1m01JKWp4m8TXxCp96Pf1f?si=9c14e5dfcb0a4a4a"Price of Tomorrow" - https://open.spotify.com/episode/29MqPQAYk1BttGYCPamwz3?si=a9af7262da334f26Simon Dixon's Work - https://www.simondixon.com

Featherweight prospect Christopher Houston joins the show to discuss his early career, his goals, and more.
In the early hours of March 3, 1993, someone snuck into the Maryland home of Millie Horn, where she lived with her disabled eight-year-old son, Trevor, and his nurse, Janice Saunders. After shooting both women in the head multiple times, the intruder smothered Trevor Horn to death, then quietly left the house. Hours later, the bodies of all three were discovered by Millie's sister, who stepped by to check on them.Almost immediately, suspicion fell on Millie Horn's ex-husband, Lawrence, who lived thousands of miles away in California, but with whom she'd spoken just hours before the murders occurred. In time, investigators were able to establish a financial motive, linking Lawrence Horn to the murders, yet they were unable to place Horn in Maryland when the murders occurred. Ultimately, Lawrence Horn would be tried and convicted for all three murders, but by that time, he wasn't sole perpetrator of the crime. And when prosecutors were finally able to pin down the men responsible for the deaths, it turned out the killers received guidance from a very surprising source.Recommendations:Phantasma By Kaylie SmithHappy Place By Emily HenryReferencesAssociated Press. 1993. The owners of the horse show, Valitar, are a wealthy, conventionally attractive couple called the Remley's. Mark Remley is a little bit older. Perhaps nerdy, but the type of guy to get into peak shape later in life. Tatyana Remley is his wife with bottle blonde hair and a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model body. She's also the main star of the Valitar horse show. The Remley's invested over $20 million dollars into the show, just to lose every single penny of it after multiple scandals back to back. Allegedly, horses were abandoned with nothing to eat and massive creative differences led to performers quitting. Former staff members would come out to allege that Tatyana Remley doesn't even know how to ride a horse that well… Later, the couple is featured on TV as a well known swinger's couple, a pillar in the local sex-swinging community. That's just a side quest though; the most scandalous thing that happened at Valitar was the decapitated horse head on the Remley's marital bed. Thankfully, it's not an actual butchered horse head. It's just a hunk from one of their very expensive statues in their $5.5 million dollar home near San Diego, California. And it's clearly not been placed there as a mistake. This is a targeted threat. And by the end of the investigation, one of the Remleys, the founders of the failed multi-million dollar Valitar horse show, will be dead. On March 3, 1993, three people were brutally murdered in Silverspring, Maryland: single mother Millie Horn, her young son Trevor, and his nurse, Janice Saunders. There were no fingerprints. The killings were targeted and quick. The killer seemed to know what they were doing - almost like they had read a book about it. Well, it turns out, they had. Ten years earlier, Paladin Press published a book called 'Hit Man: A Technical Manual for Independent Contractors'. It detailed how to kill and get away with murder. Despite attempts to have the book taken off shelves, many argued that the first amendment to the U.S.constitution meant it had a right to exist. This week on Crime Story, Jasmyn Morris joins us to talk about the podcast Hit Man. She explains how a book became evidence for murder, the fight to take it off the shelves and the mysterious author behind the murderous manual. You can find Hit Man here.

At the age of 30, Jules O'Loughlin ASC ACS walked away from a successful career as a futures trader and made the decision to pursue cinematography full-time. After enrolling at AFTRS, he shot his first feature Kokoda, a film that helped launch his career in the Australian film industry. That decision set Jules on a path from local features to major international productions, leading to credits including Ms Marvel, The Old Man, See, The Hitman's Bodyguard, Angel Has Fallen, Black Sails and most recently Disney's Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Season 2. Jules reflects on changing industries later in life, committing fully when the stakes are high, and why focus and timing often matter more than age. He also discusses the realities of film school, building long-term creative relationships, and how early opportunities can quietly shape an entire career. The conversation dives deeper into craft, with Jules unpacking his visual approach on Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He breaks down complex sequences involving horses, chariots and large-scale action, as well as shooting on water and boats, drawing on experience from Black Sails. Jules discusses how these scenes are planned and executed safely, how practical filmmaking is balanced with visual effects, and how lens choice, camera movement and motivated lighting are used to keep fantasy grounded and story-driven.
