Hebrews 2:5-9 - Speaker: Lukus Counterman - The book of Hebrews builds a case for why Jesus is better. In the opening chapters the author explains how Jesus is better than angels. And one of the reasons why is because Jesus (not some heavenly messenger) tasted death for everyone by suffering on the cross. Now, he didn't offer himself as a substitute for people because of their merit or worth. He didn't die just for those who were good or moral (as if anyone could claim to be that). Instead, the text says that “by the grace of God” he died in the place of sinners. It was God's unmerited favor, his grace, that motivated such an amazing sacrifice. Jesus is truly better. So may we hold fast to him.

Get ready for an episode that's a total train wreck in the best way possible. This week, we're celebrating our beloved Mistress Amaras' birthday, and believe us, we've got the pictures (and maybe some embarrassing stories) to prove it.But the party's just getting started! We're also diving into a concert review from a recent trip to Salt Lake City to see Nine Inch Nails, a show so good it's almost criminal. Speaking of criminal, we're talking about a recent Korn concertgoer who took "Freak on a Leash" a little too literally. We'll break down the bizarre, NSFW moment that had us saying, "Did he really just do that?" and the fan who was just as shocked as we were, taking matters into his own hands (literally).Plus, it's a new month, which means a new Bandcamp Pick. This month, we're spotlighting the Montana-based trio American Philosophy and their track "Devastation." We'll talk about why they're the perfect mix of rock, grunge, and electronica and why you should support them on Bandcamp Friday so all the money goes directly to the artists. So pour yourself a drink, grab your birthday hat, and get ready for an episode that's part celebration, part concert review, and all kinds of messed up.Playlists and Featured Artists:IntroSlanderus - Poet of the VineMistress BreakChief Ghoul - Harmonic RitesAmerican Philosophy - DevastationMistress BreakStoned Jesus - LowMistress Break - Concert announcementsEnd Ever - Ol' 13 (soberphobic)Mistress Break
Welcome to another episode with Dr. John Turner as we cover his new book “Joseph Smith: The Rise and Fall of an American Prophet.” Today we are covering chapter thirteen titled “Zion is Fled” that covers 1833-1834 in Kirtland, Ohio.We answer important questions like: What is the importance of scriptures and what does that mean for this religious movement? Is Joseph Smith credible as a prophet, seer, and revelator? Even the Mormon church today is calling the Book of Mormon a “revelation” not a translation. Is the Book of Mormon a work of genius or is it from God?We also cover topics such as the School of the Prophets, how the Word of Wisdom came to be and Joseph Smith's vision of the grand Zion Community in Independence, Missouri. Please purchase the book here.To support this series please donate here. One half of all donations will go to Dr. Turner for as long as he is participating in the series.___________________YouTubeAt Mormon Stories we explore, celebrate, and challenge Mormon culture through in-depth stories told by members and former members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as scholars, authors, LDS apologists, and other professionals. Synopsis- A Call to Action: Veterans, Citizens, and Leaders Unite: Hear from veterans like Terrance Deuel, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and UAW President Shawn Fain on why they're fighting for democracy and what you can do to get involved in your local community.Description: Can the Democratic party reinvent itself? In this exclusive one-on-one interview with Bernie Sanders, recorded during the Senator's “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, he sits down with Laura Flanders in Las Vegas to discuss what he hopes people will take away from his rallies, and how we can all push back against oligarchy. Sanders' message is especially resonating with Americans in this moment, as record-breaking crowds turn out for his tour — with many first-time activists in the audience. What is driving this phenomenon? Laura Flanders & Friends hit the road to find out, and traveled from Kenosha to Warren and Las Vegas. Along the tour, Flanders spoke with veterans, retirees and many concerned citizens. She also caught speeches from Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain, and sat in on a town hall meeting with Nevada Congresswoman Dina Titus. Will 2025 turn out to be the year that Americans remake democracy?“I did 28 years in the army. I maintained an apolitical front at all times . . . I think we're sliding into tyranny, and I took an oath to support and defend the constitution and I'm going to do that whether in or out of uniform.” - Terrance Deuel“We are at a point where the wealthiest people in the world, like Elon Musk and all the Republicans enabling him, are turning to loot what is left of Medicaid, Medicare, and social security to bankroll even deeper tax cuts and sweetheart contracts for themselves, their fellow billionaires and their corporations. And our political system right now is ill prepared for this abuse of power.” - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez“I think the message of the moment is to understand that the vast majority of the American people do not think that we give tax breaks to the rich and cut social security or veterans programs. They don't. And our job is to work as hard as we can. Part of what this tour is about is to get them involved in their own local communities.” - Bernie SandersGuests:• Jacqueline Davania-Williamson: Resident, Las Vegas, Nevada• Terrence Deuel: Veteran, U.S. Army• Thomas Dyer & Pam West: Retirees• Dr. Abdul El-Sayed: Health Director, Wayne County, Michigan• Shawn Fain: President, United Auto Workers (UAW)• Danielle & Jordan Lovik: Residents, Salt Lake City, Utah • Sandra & Raymond Martinez: Applicant & Social Security Recipient• Donavan McKinney: U.S. Representative (MI-11)• Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: U.S. Representative (NY-14)• Bernie Sanders: U.S. Senator (VT); Fighting Oligarchy Tour• Dina Titus: U.S. Representative (NV-1) Watch the broadcast episode cut for time at our YouTube channel and airing on PBS stations across the country Subscribe to episode notes via Patreon Music Credit: “Live For You" by Thee Sacred Souls from their album Got a Story to Tell courtesy of Daptone Records.. In this Movie Show Digital Extra, Blair Treu, writer/director/producer for the new documentary film Sharing Aloha joins Andy Farnsworth to talk about the movie and the people involved in creating the magic of Hawaii’s #1 attraction, the Polynesian Cultural Center. Treu's film tells the story of how Pacific Rim students come as strangers to the PCC and earn their living, as well as college scholarships, leaving school debt-free. They are the Life and Heart of the PCC and perform and host the 90,000 monthly visitors from around the world Treu describes this film as THEIR true story and culture that they learned from the feet of their ancestors. There are 8,000 students each semester that come as complete strangers and leave as one Ohana. This has continued for 60 years with no end in sight. What makes this film different than many is that all proceeds from the movie directly fund additional scholarships for students gathered from around the Pacific Rim. - Speaker: Will Galkin - What is the Gospel? People have all sorts of answers to that question. Some say it's how God keeps people out of hell. Others think it has something to do with Jesus dying. Still others define it in social terms, something about helping the oppressed or fixing what's broken in the world. And then some treat it like a moral example: “Because of Jesus, I should try to be a better person.” But when the Bible talks about the gospel, it calls it good news. That's what the word means. Romans 1:16 tells us it's not just news, it's the power of God for salvation. The clearest summary of the gospel is found in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4: Christ died for our sins, He was buried, and He rose again on the third day. To really understand why that's good news, you need the whole story. In Romans 1 through 4, the Apostle Paul lays it out. The gospel is the good news that a holy God has made a way for sinful people to be forgiven and restored to Him through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

John is joined by Andrew Berdon, partner in Quinn Emanuel's New York Office, and Joe Paunovich, partner in Quinn Emanuel's Salt Lake City office. They discuss the $300 million victory Andrew and Joe's team recently won in Delaware Chancery Court in an earnout dispute arising from a pharmaceutical merger. The dispute involved the acquisition of Syntimmune, a biotech company founded around a promising antibody drug—Alexion 1830—designed to treat rare autoimmune diseases by reducing levels of IgG. The drug was initially developed from academic research at Harvard and advanced by a venture-backed startup that invested over $75 million before selling the company to Alexion, now a division of AstraZeneca. The acquisition included an upfront payment of $400 million, plus up to $800 million in earnout payments tied to eight developmental milestones, most of which were based on progress during pre-approval clinical trials. The dispute arose when Alexion, shortly after the acquisition, deprioritized and ultimately terminated the drug's development, citing safety concerns and a perceived loss of first-mover advantage. No earnout payments were made. The court found that Alexion breached its obligation to use "commercially reasonable efforts"—defined in the agreement as those a similarly situated biotech company would use—to develop the drug. Evidence at trial showed Alexion made no attempt to benchmark its efforts against peer companies developing similar drugs. Instead, internal shifts in corporate priorities and the subsequent acquisition by AstraZeneca led to the program's quiet abandonment, despite a highly promising therapeutic profile and a still viable market opportunity. The episode concludes with reflections on the broader pharmaceutical industry, the strategic use (and misuse) of earnout structures, and the importance of precisely drafted effort clauses to protect sellers when control shifts post-acquisition.Podcast Link: Law-disrupted.fmHost: John B.
