In this episode, we expand on ideas presented by Nate Oman during a discussion on Faith Matters and trace the complicated, evolving history of Mormon sealings from Joseph Smith through the 20th century.Today, “eternal families” are often presented as the central purpose of temple sealings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But historically, the story is much messier. In this conversation, we explore how early sealings were not originally centered on the modern concept of nuclear families being together forever. Instead, sealing theology developed gradually during the Nauvoo period and often functioned as a way to create dynastic networks, priesthood connections, and systems of authority –what some critics compare to an MLM-style hierarchy of spiritual relationships. We discuss the evolution of sealing theology from Joseph Smith to Brigham Young, baptisms for the dead and the trauma surrounding Alvin Smith's death, the rise of dynastic sealings and the “Law of Adoption” where men were sealed to other men. We also discuss the relationship between sealings and plural marriage, how the sealing language changed over time, why Joseph Smith never initially sealed himself to Emma, the story of Jane Manning James and how she was “attached” to Joseph Smith instead of sealed. We also discuss the racial restrictions for Black Mormons, questions of informed consent, authority, and prophetic consistency, and whether the modern LDS concept of “forever families” would have been recognizable to Joseph Smith himself. We also examine how doctrines once treated as essential and eternal –including the Law of Adoption –were later abandoned entirely, raising larger questions about revelation, institutional change, and the development of Mormon theology. Whether you're believing, questioning, post-Mormon, or simply interested in religious history, this episode offers a deep dive into one of the most controversial and misunderstood developments in Mormon history.___________________YouTubeAt Mormon Stories we explore, celebrate, and challenge Mormon culture through in-depth stories told by members and former members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as scholars, authors, LDS apologists, and other professionals.  Our overall mission is to: 1. Millions of individuals visit Temple Square in Salt Lake City each year. Many are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Many others come from around the world to see the 10-acre site of the Salt Lake Temple and other parts of the site that is headquarters to the global Church. The Salt Lake Temple has been undergoing significant renovations since 2019 and is scheduled to host an open house and dedication in 2027. As the grounds around the temple have been refreshed, new sculptures that represent aspects of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the life of Jesus Christ and the Restoration of Jesus Christ’s Church have been placed around the grounds. Two of those sculptures came from the dedicated work of sculptor Michael Hall. “It’s humbling,” Hall said. “How do you depict God? How do you depict God in a way that will help people to feel the Spirit?” Hall joins Church News editor Jon Ryan Jensen to discuss the testimony-refining process of creating sculptures of the Savior’s mortal life and of Joseph Smith’s First Vision.

Ted Bundy crossed a state line in September 1974 and became a new person. Washington had his name. Washington had his composite. Washington had two hundred thousand tips. None of it followed him to Utah.He arrived in Salt Lake City as a first-year law student with clean plates and a clean record. Between October 1974 and August 1975, he moved across Utah, Colorado, and Idaho. Nancy Wilcox, sixteen, vanished in Holladay. Melissa Smith, seventeen, the police chief's daughter, was found in a canyon nine days after she disappeared. Laura Aime, seventeen, left a Halloween party and was found on Thanksgiving Day. Caryn Campbell, twenty-three, walked down a brightly lit hallway at a Colorado ski lodge and never reached her room.On Taylor Mountain back in Washington, forestry students found four skulls: Lynda Healy, Susan Rancourt, Kathy Parks, Brenda Ball. Their families were burying daughters while Utah was just beginning to look. The break came from two directions. Carol DaRonch, eighteen, who had fought her way out of Bundy's Volkswagen on November 8, 1974 — the only survivor who could identify him. And Sergeant Bob Hayward, parked in his own driveway, who chased a dark VW at 2:30 AM and found a kit in the front seat that no law student has a reason to carry. When Detective Jerry Thompson connected the name Bundy to DaRonch's case and called Colorado and Washington, the files crossed state lines for the first time in nineteen months. This is the second of five conversations in Ted Bundy: History's Hidden Killers. The killer who used geography as a weapon. The survivor who refused to disappear. The accident that finally made three states see the same man.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? In this episode Garth interviews Lisa Diamond from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT. They discuss teacher-centric talks on sexuality and gender amid heightened scrutiny and safety concerns for instructors and students, especially as anti-DEI laws have eliminated campus resource centers, and classrooms may be the only remaining gathering places for marginalized students. Lisa believes that textbooks quickly become outdated and that psychology must be taught as an evolving social science with imperfect methods and shifting lenses. She emphasizes that humans are spectrum-based but prone to flawed categories; identity labels can be personally, socially, and politically meaningful yet differ from scientific groupings. She traces how research categories historically excluded bisexual and non-binary people and notes that large-scale data revealed bisexuality as a majority pattern within LGBTQ populations. They discuss how algorithms and social media fuel polarized realities, and Lisa advocates using discomfort awareness, empathy, in-person dialogue, and structured student interactions to counter bias and teach through controversy. This week on Mormon Stories News, John Dehlin and Meggan Hayes break down some of the biggest stories making headlines in Mormonism. We begin with the growing scandal surrounding former Pinal County Sheriff and congressional candidate Mark Lamb. Recent reporting from The Arizona Republic details allegations involving explicit messages, secret relationships, and accusations that raise serious questions about image management, accountability, and whether Mormon leaders around Lamb have helped to protect him from consequences. We also examine the case of former LDS stake president Patrick Bucknum, who has been accused by federal authorities of orchestrating a years-long fraud scheme involving millions of dollars. We take a look at the newest reports from Ensign Peak Advisors, the investment arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. With the church's investment portfolio recently losing billions, we discuss what the latest filings reveal, where the money is being invested, and why church finances remain one of the most debated topics among members and former members alike. We also cover the arrest of William Scott Messer at BYU-Idaho. The case has generated significant attention in the Rexburg community and raises questions about discernment and how William obtained an ecclesiastical endorsement.Next, we discuss Auckland YSA and visiting General Authority Peter Meurs and his challenge encouraging young single adults to go on 26 dates in 2026. While some see the initiative as a fun way to encourage social interaction, others view it as another example of the intense cultural pressure many Latter-day Saints experience surrounding dating, marriage, and family formation. Finally, we break down the latest reporting from The Salt Lake Tribune regarding church annotations. The article shines a light on a little-understood system used by church leaders to place confidential notes on member records. The story has sparked fresh concerns about how abuse is handled in the church and the lack of training given to the leaders who are tasked with making and keeping annotations. From leadership scandals and financial disclosures to dating culture, criminal investigations, and church transparency, this week's Mormon Stories News covers the stories shaping conversations throughout the Mormon world.Show notes can be found on the Mormon Stories blog here.___________________YouTubeAt Mormon Stories we explore, celebrate, and challenge Mormon culture through in-depth stories told by members and former members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as scholars, authors, LDS apologists, and other professionals.  Our overall mission is to: 1. Just Jimmy and Tyler kicking off June with something that’s been on Jimmy’s mind since the Rubicon trip — and since the Barrett Lake outhouse project started spreading to other forests. The short version: the National Forest Service is being restructured in a way that removes local regional offices. The closest regional office for El Dorado National Forest, Tahoe National Forest, and Stanislaus National Forest is now in Salt Lake City. That means people who have never set foot on our trails are making decisions about them. Jimmy draws the parallel to what happened at Gemini Bridges and Labyrinth Rims — 2,200 miles of trails evaluated and closed by people working off a map. No boots on the ground. And those were local BLM offices. Now imagine Salt Lake City. The call to action is clear: the off-road community needs to show up at the table before the restructuring finishes and the table gets moved somewhere else. Jimmy runs through what that looks like in practice. The Mad Hatters just completed their adopted section of the Rubicon Trail. Friends of Fordyce and Friends of Rubicon had a big work weekend. Spree to Four (or the Granite Bandits — Jimmy goes back and forth) does Corral Hollow every year and opens more roads than the county can staff. There’s a work party at Moon Rocks coming up to install 32 named obstacle signs, with BLM permission. And the Barrett Lake blob bathroom project — the one the off-road community funded and built — is now being copied onto Fordyce at Committee Crossing and Wind Chill 3, and at Observation Point on the Rubicon. Tahoe National Forest, which historically does not collaborate with El Dorado National Forest, asked to copy the project. That’s what showing up looks like. How to get involved: contact your local ranger district, come with questions not demands, keep digging until you find the person who can actually answer them. Search Facebook groups for your specific riding area. If nothing exists, start the conversation. For funding, Onyx has their Trail Revival Program live right now — $5,000 grants, Jimmy applied and got one last year, the main ask is media showing the work was done. Tread Lightly and BFG also have trail grant programs. The window for making a real impact is right now, during the restructure, not after it’s done. Also in this episode: today (June 1) is the last day to use the Devos LightRanger 500 group buy discount code. The Russo May giveaway has closed — winner announcement coming Thursday. The June giveaway is not announced yet but Jimmy teases it’s a company they’ve worked with before and it’s a good one. By their own measure, the church in Laodicea thought they were thriving, and so they assumed Jesus would be pleased with them. Instead, He brings one of the most jarring assessments in all the letters. He says He is so disgusted that He wants to spit them out. But, Jesus doesn't expose them to shame them. He does it to offer them something incredible. As we study this text together, we'll find Jesus dismantling a comfortable church's confidence so He can give them what they truly need and can only find in Him. May the Lord use this passage to show us where we've grown self-sufficient, and may we receive from Him what only He can give.

As we study this text together, we'll find Jesus dismantling a comfortable church's confidence so He can give them what they truly need and can only find in Him. May the Lord use this passage to show us where we've grown self-sufficient, and may we receive from Him what only He can give.

Send us Fan MailYour backyard peak can be more than a workout, it can be a measuring stick for an entire community. We're joined by Kelsey Quinn from La Sportiva marketing plus athletes Anton Krupicka, Jason Dorias, and Tom Goth to unpack the La Sportiva Green Mountain and Grandeur Peak Challenge, running May 15 through June 15. The goal is simple and addictive: chase the fastest uphill time, stack the most summits, or just get in the game and let the mountain sharpen you. We get into why Green Mountain in Boulder has become a daily ritual for so many trail runners, from its proximity to town to the sheer number of ways you can climb it. Anton shares the kind of long-view perspective only years of repeats can create: how the trail has rerouted over time, how pre-Strava “ghost times” still shape the lore, and why breaking 30 minutes remains a real marker in mountain running. Then we shift to Grandeur Peak in Salt Lake City, a steep, clean effort that functions like a perfect vertical kilometer and a favorite training tool for ski mountaineers. Tom and Jason talk routes, strategy, and the local history of FKTs and early Strava rivalries, including why the West Grandeur line is such a magnet for uphill specialists and why poles often win the day. We also cover the prizes, including $750 cash for the fastest man and woman, awards for the most completions, and raffle entries for anyone who participates. If you're near Boulder or the Wasatch Front, this is your excuse to learn the route, test your pacing, and add your name to the story. Subscribe, share this with a training partner, and leave a review if you want more conversations like this.Details For Grandeur You have from May15 to June15 to complete the Grandeur Peak West Climb segment. The fastest single ascent (trailhead → summit) for both Male & Female during this timeframe will receive $750 cash each! The most verified summits during event window (Top 3 Most Completions) during this timeframe will receive $500 | $350 | $150 each!Every registered participant will be entered for a chance to win a pair of La Sportiva Mountain Running shoes (5 total) + other prizes!Dates:The challenge runs from May 15 to June 15, 2026.Details for Green The Challenge:You have from May15 to June15 to complete the Green Mountain via Amphitheater/Saddle Rock/Greenman Trail segment. The fastest single ascent (trailhead → summit) for both Male & Female during this timeframe will receive $750 cash each! The most verified summits during event window (Top 3 Most Completions) during this timeframe will receive $500 | $350 | $150 each!Every registered participant will be entered for a chance to win a pair of La Sportiva Mountain Running shoes (5 total) + other prizes!Dates:The challenge runs from May 15 to June 15, 2026.To Sign up  for the Green Mountain Challenge - >  RegisterTo Sign up for the Grandeur Peak Challenge -> RegisterFollow Anton Krupicka on IG - @antonkrupickaFollow Jason Dorias on IG - @jasondoriasFollow Tom Goth on IG - @tomgothUse code SteepStuff for 20% your cart on Sidas.usFollow James on IG - @jameslaurielloFollow the Steep Stuff Podcast on IG - @steepstuff_podFollow Sidas USA on IG - @sidas_usa

If I had to pick one word for the mood worldwide, it's uncertainty: energy and supply shocks rippling out of the Middle East, fuel and resource shortages, flights getting canceled with no notice, and AI scrambling the playbook for vendors, practitioners, and leaders alike.I get into why so many data tooling companies are quietly having existential conversations, how Atlan tore its product down to rebuild AI-native (a full conversation with Prukalpa is coming next week), and a fun experiment I shipped this week with DuckDB Quack.I also dig into the split I keep seeing: senior practitioners getting superpowers while juniors face a brutal job market, leaders being asked to do far more with less, and why I think the industrial-age org chart is finally on its way out.Plus some personal updates: the new book is now targeting late July and a companion course is on the way. Finally, I'm mixing audio and video formats going forward (Freestyle Friday will probably be mostly audio), the Practical Data Community newsletter is live, and there's a Salt Lake City conference brewing for late January. As director and archivist of the Center for Mennonite Brethren Studies at Tabor College, Peggy is the go-to voice for all things MB heritage. In this episode, she traces the roots of why Mennonite Brethren started gathering in the first place, taking us back to the 1870s when MB immigrants fled persecution in Russia and settled across Kansas, Nebraska, and the Dakotas. By 1879, scattered churches came together for a national gathering because, as Peggy puts it, they simply didn't want to be alone. From love feasts and long sermons to big debates about missions, military service, and evangelism funding, Peggy draws a straight line from those early gatherings to why USMB still comes together today. With the 2026 Gathering in Salt Lake City just around the corner, this one is worth sharing with your whole team. Details at usmb.org.

Along the way, we examine the Book of Abraham, the Kinderhook Plates controversy, Mark Hofmann's forged documents, hidden church history, and modern scandals that continue to raise difficult questions for believers and critics alike. The episode also looks at how faith can remain resilient even after exposure to false claims, and why many argue that institutional dishonesty –rather than belief itself –is the deeper issue.Topics include: Joseph Smith's treasure digging, the Book of Abraham facsimiles, how Elder Oaks defended the Salamander Letter, and the hiding of early Mormon documents. The future of geoscience is being shaped by our students. In this episode host Joy Carter showcases two top student entries. We're diving into emerging technologies and exploring how they may shape our industry in the years ahead. First we are featuring the first place team from the University of Toronto in Canada about a topic on everyone's mind these days, artificial intelligence. This is the third and final episode highlighting the SEG 2025 Student Podcast Challenge and we finish it with the team from the University of Namibia and their take on the 'Mineral Mindset'. SEG 2026 Student Podcast ChallengeChapter 1: The Evolution of Mineral Exploration Tools & AI's Role in the FutureUniversity of TorontoHost Eve CarrothersIn this episode of Geochronicles, host Eve Carrothers, a master's student in economic geology at the University of Toronto, explores how new tools in mineral exploration often face scepticism before becoming standard practice, drawing parallels between early geophysical and geochemical instruments and the current debate surrounding Artificial Intelligence. Joined by Professors Andrei Swidinsky (geophysics) and Dan Gregory (geochemistry), Eve discusses the historical reception of tools like magnetometers, gravimeters, and petrographic microscopes, showing how resistance to change has long been part of the geoscientific journey. The conversation then shifts to AI, examining how it mirrors the same cycle of doubt and eventual acceptance seen with past innovations. The guests share their thoughts on how AI may transform mineral exploration in the coming decades, while also offering advice to geoscientists who may be hesitant to adopt it. The episode encourages a thoughtful, informed approach to new technology, reminding listeners that many of today's essential tools were once met with uncertainty. This podcast features the song “Beer Blues” by Koi-discovery, available under a Creative Commons Universal Licence.Chapter 2: The Mineral MindsetUniversity of NamibiaHost Ama Geingoswith Guests  Senamile Dlamini, Ndinelago Johannes, Obey Haufiku, Eli Kaushiningwa, Eunice KamoshoThe Mineral Mindset podcast, presented by the UNAM Society of Economic Geologists Student Chapter, explores the rising demand for lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements. The discussion highlights how these critical minerals power modern technologies, the role of new exploration methods like AI and drone technology, and the environmental challenges associated with mining. Future trends, including recycling, urban mining, and alternative resources, are also examined. The discussion also underscores the geopolitical and economic implications of the growing demand for critical minerals, as nations and industries compete for access to these essential resources. Speakers stress the need for responsible mining practices, stricter regulations, and government-industry collaboration to ensure long-term sustainability. As the world transitions toward greener energy and advanced technologies, the role of geologists and mining professionals becomes even more crucial in balancing resource extraction with environmental stewardship.  Moreover, insights into sustainable mining practices, such as gas turbines, water treatment, and eco-friendly extraction methods are discussed. Finally, episode wraps up with a call to action, encouraging young geologists to embrace innovation and drive positive change in the field.  Come join us in Salt Lake City, Utah for SEG 2026, September 30th to October 3rd. You can expect world-class technical content, including iconic ore deposits and the geological processes of North American Cordillera. The program balances applied case studies, framework geology, and technological innovation. The conference offers a unique opportunity to connect, learn, and help shape the future of economic geology. See you there.

What is the potential for copper mineralization in the northern Peruvian Andes?  Could uranium be important in the future of South America?   Today's episode features two of the top SEG 2025 Student Podcast Challenge entries.  First, we are featuring the third place team from the competition, the students at the National University of Engineering in Lima, Peru. SEG 2026 Student Podcast ChallengeChapter 1: The potential for copper mineralization in the northern Peruvian Andes: Support for the sustainable green energy transitionNational University of Engineering in Lima, Peru.Hosts,  Milagros Del Rosario De la Cruz Chanco and Erick Ronaldo Romani Pongo  Production Team, Jean Pierre Avendaño Quispe, Felipe Ramiro Robles Salvador, Antonio Chavez Anccasi, Nicolas Valentino Bances Camacho, Jhonny Angelo Urbano Ramos, Lorena Naydelin Rojas Hernandez, Jerry Junnior Ramirez Guadalupe We address Peru's role in the global energy transition and its relevance as the world's third largest copper producer, with 10% of the world's reserves. The southern region dominates production, while the north, despite hosting important projects, remains underdeveloped due to socio-environmental conflicts, lack of infrastructure and a historical bias in exploration. Geologist Pedro Reyes proposes three strategies to reverse this situation: expanding exploration in poorly studied areas, analysing geological transitions between epithermal and porphyry deposits, and evaluating new mineralised styles in the north. He also stresses that the success of these projects depends not only on technical aspects, but also on adequate social management. Finally, he emphasizes that the future of the sector depends on innovation and the training of new generations capable of discovering and exploiting Peru's enormous copper potential, especially in the northern Andes.Chapter 2: Uranium in Latin America: Powering the Future?University of El Paso TexasHosts,  Paola Salas, Aaron Atkins and Bardo Tavizon Editor, Daniel Castano MadrigalIn this episode Paola, Bardo, and Aaron, representing the SEG Student Chapter at UTEP, dive into the exciting possibilities of uranium in shaping the region's energy landscape. Their discussion highlights its vital role as a low-carbon alternative in our global energy mix. While it's true that the public often associates nuclear energy with past disasters and weapons, the hosts shine a light on the technological advancements that are making nuclear energy safer and more sustainable today. The conversation shifts to the immense potential of Latin America, with Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina standing out as key players due to their uranium reserves and growing interest in nuclear power. Yet, they also address the challenges ahead, including environmental concerns, political instability, and public scepticism. The presenters stress the importance of responsible mining, open communication, and investment in education to tackle these issues. In the end, they present uranium as a promising avenue toward a cleaner energy future, provided we approach its development thoughtfully and inclusively.SEG Minerals - Discovery to Recovery  theme music is Confluence, by Eastwinds.EastwindsCome join us in Salt Lake City, Utah for SEG 2026, September 30th to October 3rd. You can expect world-class technical content, including iconic ore deposits and the geological processes of North American Cordillera. Content Warning: Discussion of suicide and suicidal ideation. In this episode of Mormon Stories, Gustavo Hernandez from Mexico City shares his experience growing up Mormon in Mexico, discovering difficult church history as a teenager, and ultimately choosing to remain an active, believing member of the Church while navigating doubt, anxiety, and faith crises. Gustavo opens up about the shame culture surrounding worthiness, pornography confessions, and perfectionism in Mormonism –including how teachings from leaders like Spencer W. Kimball deeply affected his mental health as a young teen. He discusses experiencing panic attacks, existential dread, and suicidal thoughts while trying to reconcile faith, church history, and his desire to feel accepted by God. Along the way, Gustavo encountered the CES Letter, Mormon Stories, exMormon Reddit, temple controversies, Joseph Smith's polygamy, the priesthood ban, Freemasonry, and multiple First Vision accounts. Despite everything, he chose to stay active in the Church, serve a mission in Guatemala, and eventually became an institute teacher in Mexico. The interview includes topics like what it's like being Mormon in Mexico, growing up in a predominantly Catholic culture, p*rnography shame and bishop interviews, faith crisis as a fourteen year old boy, the CES Letter and apologetics, mission burnout, mental health and suicidal ideation, remaining active after losing certainly, as well as current beliefs about Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, polygamy, and LGBTQ issues. Whether you agree with Gustavo's conclusions or not, his story offers an honest and nuanced look at faith, doubt, mental health, and what it means to stay.___________________Show NotesYouTubeAt Mormon Stories we explore, celebrate, and challenge Mormon culture through in-depth stories told by members and former members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as scholars, authors, LDS apologists, and other professionals.  Our overall mission is to: 1. The Church's Expanding Global Identity & $25M UNICEF Donation The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has donated $25 million to UNICEF's Child Nutrition Fund (CNF), a global initiative aimed at preventing and treating childhood malnutrition. • Doubled Impact: Thanks to a matching challenge announced in 2025, the Church’s donation will generate an additional $25 million, bringing the total financial impact to $50 million. • Target & Scope: The contribution is part of an ongoing partnership with UNICEF that began in 2013. The funds will support nutritional programs for mothers and young children—specifically targeting areas like the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, the Philippines, and Sierra Leone—with the broader goal of helping the fund reach 320 million women and children annually by 2030. The First Presidency Tours the New Humanitarian Center Ahead of Dedication This facility is part of the Church's effort to follow the second great commandment: “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” On Friday, May 22, 2026, the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints toured the Church's new Humanitarian Center in Salt Lake City, ahead of its upcoming dedication. Purpose: Built to support the commandment to “love thy neighbour,” the center serves a dual purpose: providing job training, language courses, and employment counseling to help individuals overcome employment barriers, while also preparing and distributing global humanitarian supplies. Public Open House: Runs from June 1 through July 23, 2026 (Monday–Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.). Visitors can participate in hands-on service, such as assembling kits or sorting clothes. Attendance: Visitors are encouraged to schedule a time via the Temple Square app or by calling 801-240-5954, though walk-ins are welcome. Harvard Global Flourishing Study Compares Latter-day Saints Internationally The recently released Harvard Global Human Flourishing Study, which surveyed over 200,000 people across 22 countries, reveals that religious service attendance is globally linked to higher levels of overall well-being—and Latter-day Saints are no exception. When analyzing the U.S. data, the study found that Latter-day Saints scored highly on the overall “flourishing index” (which measures happiness, health, meaning, character, relationships, and financial stability), while those with no religious affiliation scored the lowest. • Highest Church Attendance: Latter-day Saints reported the highest rate of weekly religious service attendance at 65%, outperforming Evangelicals (59%) and Pentecostals (53%). • Mental Health and Happiness: The group demonstrated remarkably low levels of depression (8.5%) compared to atheists and agnostics (19%). Additionally, 30% of Latter-day Saints reported being “highly happy,” which is roughly double the rate of those distant from faith. • Family and Spiritual Support: Latter-day Saints reported the highest rates of feeling loved by their mother (94%) and father (90%) while growing up. Furthermore, 89% reported finding immense strength and comfort from their religion. • The Challenge of Community Criticism: On the flip side, 11% of Latter-day Saints reported feeling that their religious community was critical of them. While this number is statistically identical to other high-expectation faiths (like Baptists and Evangelicals), the article notes it highlights an ongoing need for the culture to shift from judgment to Christlike love, a priority recently emphasized by Church leadership. Diplomatic Relations: Elder Bednar Meets With the President of Chile Elder David A. Bednar, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, held an official meeting with Chilean President José Antonio Kast at the La Moneda Presidential Palace on Monday, May 18, 2026. • Core Topics: The discussion centered on strengthening families, supporting youth, protecting religious freedom, and fostering cooperation between governments and faith communities. • Church Initiatives: Elder Bednar highlighted several Church programs designed to help the rising generation develop faith, purpose, and practical skills. These included the For the Strength of Youth program, various youth service and leadership experiences, and the BYU–Pathway Worldwide educational program. Women Leaders Discuss Discipleship and Service at Annual Luncheon On Monday, May 11, 2026, roughly 200 current and former women leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gathered for their annual emeritus luncheon at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City. The meeting brought together past and present general presidencies and advisory councils from the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society organizations to discuss discipleship, service, and organizational updates. • Young Women Age-Group Names: Leaders discussed the spiritual meaning behind the newly introduced Young Women age-group names. Former Young Women General President Elaine S. Dalton praised the change, noting that the titles—Builders of Faith (ages 12–13), Messengers of Hope (ages 14–15), and Gatherers of Light (ages 16–17)—give young women a strong identity rooted directly in Jesus Christ. • Enduring Sisterhood: Attendees, including 93-year-old Joy Sansom (who served on the Young Women general board from 1961 to 1972), celebrated the lifelong bonds, shared memories, and enduring sense of community fostered by their years of joint church service.  Bishops and Youth: One-on-One Ministering Supports Better Relationships During a recent Instagram Live broadcast, the Young Men General Presidency addressed the common question of whether ward-level Young Men presidencies—discontinued in 2020—will ever return. Led by General President Timothy L. Farnes and his counselors, Brother David J. Wunderli and Brother Sean R. Dixon, the presidency clarified that the change is permanent and explained the spiritual and structural reasons behind keeping the responsibility on local bishoprics. Church Communications Releases Inside Look Video of Provo MTC With the rise in full-time missionary applications and the creation of more missions worldwide, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has produced a video offering prospective missionaries and their families an inside look at how missionaries are trained. The 21-minute video, titled “What It's Really Like at the Missionary Training Center,” was released on YouTube on May 17. short, fun, and heartfelt interviews with missionaries. In this episode, host Andrew Pla sits down with Mark Littlefield, VP of Product at PDQ, for a wide-ranging conversation about product management, the PowerShell community, and what it looks like to deeply learn a technical domain when you're not coming from a traditional sysadmin background. Mark shares his journey from tech support to product management, what drew him to PDQ and the challenges facing IT admins, and what surprised him about PowerShell once he started paying close attention. The two also dig into the history behind PDQ Connect's PowerShell Scanner, how product teams learn from customers, the art of storytelling as a PM and sysadmin skill, and more. Key Takeaways: Product management and PowerShell automation share a core philosophy: solve problems at the root, not just on the surface. Whether you're writing a script or building a feature, the goal is to eliminate a challenge entirely rather than patch around it. Understanding your customer requires more than data — it requires immersion. Mark describes going deep into the sysadmin world through customer interviews, internal usage, and community engagement to truly understand the problems facing IT teams. Great storytelling is a transferable skill. Andrew draws a parallel between how Jeffrey Snover used the Monad Manifesto to get internal buy-in at Microsoft and how to use narrative to align teams and push ideas forward. Guest Bio: Mark Littlefield is the VP of Product at PDQ, where he leads product strategy and development for PDQ Connect and the broader PDQ product suite. With over 15 years of product management experience, Mark previously served as VP of Product Management at InsideSales.com, where he oversaw product management and design across the platform. After earning his PhD from Liverpool University in 1970 for his research of Dalradian rocks in Scotland, he joined the British Geological Survey. This role led him to explore vast, uncharted regions of Africa, and South America. In Bolivia he ventured into the legendary “Lost World” of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; in Ecuador he led the Cordillera Real Project. His efforts in mapping the Cordillera Real revealed unexpected geological un-Andean features that challenged conventional knowledge. He wrote many scientific papers, memoirs, and geological maps, and in 1993, Queen Elizabeth II honored him with the The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Throughout his career, he sometimes felt limited by the formal style of scientific writing, which focuses on data and analysis rather than personal expression. After retiring, Litherland found a new passion in poetry, using it to convey not only his deep connection to geology but also his reflections on various aspects of life.Chapter 2: From Outcrop to Ore DepositUniversity of British Columbia Host Maya SaldanhaWelcome to From Outcrop to Ore Deposit, the episode where we dive into the world of economic geology: research, fieldwork, and the people shaping the next generation of geologists.Maya Saldanha is joined by Dr. Kenneth Hickey, the Director of UBC's field school and an expert in ore deposit geology. Send us Fan MailDana Wilkey from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is back with a show that covers so much ground you are going to want to sit down for this one. We start with something that happened live on air during Dana's show with Vanessa Reiser that nobody saw coming — the same account Dana has been told belongs to Teresa Giudice's husband Louie Ruelas (him or someone he directed) shows up and what happens next is something you genuinely have to see to believe — and Dana has been tracking this account long enough to know exactly what it is and why it keeps showing up. Then Dana breaks down the brand new Bravo narrative integrity clause that just went out to Real Housewives of Salt Lake City and Real Housewives of New Jersey cast — and why she thinks this is going to cause more problems than it solves and what it means for how these shows are going to look going forward. Then PK Kemsley tells a TMZ reporter he's richer than him outside a Beverly Hills hotel — and Dana just got her hands on his actual court financial documents and what she found inside them is going to make you question everything PK has ever said publicly about his finances — including a mystery company called PK Global that exists nowhere accept in PK's recent interview (sort of), mortgage payments on a Florida property Dorit Kemsley sits on the company of, and a number buried in the all other expenses column that Dana cannot explain. Then PK Kemsley does a surprise public love letter to Lisa Vanderpump right after his big interview — not a very Kyle supportive move — and Dana's theory on why he did it and what it was really aimed at is something that is going to make Dorit Kemsley very uncomfortable. Then Kyle Richards chose PK over Dorit this season and Dana finally explains exactly why — and it has everything to do with view counts, Morgan Wade RHOBH diss continues and a Rihanna DM to Amanda Frances that Dana thinks Kyle Richards is behind. Then Brandi Glanville and Camille Grammer — Dana was actually in Vegas during that infamous nightclub scene and what she saw that night explains everything about what happened with Caroline Manzo that nobody has said publicly until now. Then Erika Jayne Girardi's $25 million lawsuit settlement smells wrong to Dana and she explains exactly why — and the mystery of who Adam Beal really bought that lawsuit for is something she cannot let go. The full show including Dana's complete PK Kemsley financial deep dive, the Dorit Kemsley Entertainment Tonight breakdown, Bronwyn Newport separation tea, Lisa Barlow pushing limits and so much more is exclusively on Patreon — subscribe now at https://www.patreon.com/cw/DishingDramaWithDanaWilkey

2 Corinthians 12:11-21 - Speaker: Lukus Counterman - Paul is nearing the end of his letter to the Corinthian church, and he wants to clarify not just his apostolic authority, but his fatherly heart for the congregation. He claims to be an apostle from Christ who is in no way deficient concerning signs, wonders, and mighty works. But those acts of power weren't for his benefit, they were for the upbuilding of the congregation. Paul loves the church and is willing to spend and be spent on their behalf. He just wants them to repent of their sins and prepare for his visit so that it can one of delight instead of discipline. As we think about Paul's love for these hard-hearted people, let's ask God to give us love for others as well. May the Lord lead us into love as we study 2 Cor. 12 together.

In Part 2 of our series on Seventh-day Adventism, Melissa Spiers shares her personal story of growing up as a fourth-generation Adventist in a deeply religious family shaped by strict lifestyle rules, purity culture, and constant pressure to perform spiritually.Melissa describes her experience navigating SDA education systems, thought control, and the intense expectations placed on young women within the church. She also discusses her eventual move away from Adventism, and the complicated relationship between religion, identity, and personal freedom.Another major focus of this episode is Melissa's discovery of abuse within her own family, the response from Seventh-day Adventist leadership, and the broader systems she believes protect abuse within high-control religious institutions. She shares how these experiences affected her relationships, mental health, and eventual religious deconstruction.Throughout the conversation, Melissa reflects on healing, rebuilding life outside of religion, and the challenges many people face after leaving high-demand faith communities. We also discuss her new memoir, "Holy Disobedience: Sex, Sin, and Secrets in the Biggest Church No One Knows".You can purchase it here.___________________YouTubeAt Mormon Stories we explore, celebrate, and challenge Mormon culture through in-depth stories told by members and former members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as scholars, authors, LDS apologists, and other professionals.  Our overall mission is to: 1. Welcome to our final episode in our Joseph Smith: The Podcast series, where we cover John Turner's new book “Joseph Smith: The Rise and Fall of an American Prophet.” In this episode, we explore the immediate aftermath of Joseph Smith's assassination and the profound consequences that followed his family, plural wives, and the early Latter-day Saint movement. The chapter we are covering today is the Epilogue. We look at the chaotic hours and days after his death in Nauvoo, including how his body and Hyrum's were handled, the conditions of their temporary burial, and the secrecy surrounding their remains. The episode also examines Emma Smith's role in the aftermath --her grief, her control over Joseph's body, and the difficult position she found herself in as both widow and critic of polygamy. We also discuss how Joseph's plural wives responded to his death, the emotional and political complexities of their mourning, and the uneasy reality of their realtionships with Brigham Young and other church leaders. From there, we move into the succession crisis that followed --how leadership shifted, why Brigham Young ultimately prevailed over Sidney Rigdon, and how competing visions of the church began to emerge. Finally, we step back to consider Joseph Smith's broader legacy, the scale of opposition he faced, and how his influence continued to shape American religious history long after his death. If you'd like to help keep this project going, please consider donating to support this series here.
