Notes: Psalms 40:16-17 16 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified. 17 But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God. Luke 22:31-32 31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. Romans 8:36-37 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

This week, Stephanie Dueñas and Russell Shoemaker tread through the fascinating history behind the sculpture work “Silver Bedhead” from 1946 by Alexander “Sandy'“ Calder, mobile master, commissioned by Peggy Guggenheim, a woman whose art addiction influenced Modern Art History of the last century. They go back to the beginning of Peggy and Sandy’s lives when each experienced serendipitous moments that changed the trajectory of their lives, their paths running parallel to one another until art brought them together resulting in the one-of-a-kind work discussed in today’s episode. Topics include secret bookstores, a hefty inheritance, a miniature circus, baguette bopping, and Stephanie’s encounter with a too mobile mobile. You can see all the images we discuss today at artslicepod.com or on our instagram http://linktr.ee/artslicepod Our Art Pantry of the week is Craft. In this week’s episode, Stephanie Dueñas and Russell Shoemaker immerse themselves in the sensory watercolor world of the prolific artist and writer Charles Burchfield: from his early psychedelic Golden phase, through his Regionalist period, and finally, the works he made toward the end of his life after revisiting those Golden Phase paintings. They explore what exactly drove the vibrant works that bookended his career spanning several decades. You can find all the images we discuss on our website at https://www.artslicepod.com/ or our instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/artslicepod/ Charles was just a small town boy, born and raised in Ohio. He was known as a lunch pale artist, clocking in Monday through Friday and spending time with his family and dogs on nights and weekends. While his paintings sold enough to support his family, even during the Great Depression, something was unresolved in his artistic career . . . something that had been unresolved before he became the beloved Regionalist. Toward the end of his career, his splice-of-life watercolors transcended into multi-sensory and psychedelic landscapes vibrating with the songs of crickets and the buzzing of telephone wires. Stephanie and Russell find out that the answer to "Was this Mr. Rodger’s - type figure popping LSD in the woods? Or was he so deeply connected to the nature all around him?" Our Art Pantry of the week is Watercolor. A special thank you to Andrew Leslie who voiced the words by Charles Burchfield. Today I am talking with Jonathan Hughes. Jonathan is an Entrepreneur, investor, advisor and strategist, as well as Co-Founder and CEO at Pollinate Horizons, a FinTech and payments company. In this conversation you will hear what Jonathan thinks about leadership, about teams, about culture. He shares his views on the need for energy in meetings and the value of a good argument, with emphasis on the word good. Jonathan describes himself as a hill taker when it comes to goal setting. He shares the 3 to 4 core things that are instrumental in him having a great days, about respecting others enough to disagree, and about having the energy, intensity and passion to fight for what you believe in. I am sure that you will pick up on that energy and passion throughout this conversation. I often talk about the core principles of infinite pie as ‘do stuff that matters, with people who count, in places that inspire' and I think that we covered all of them in this conversation. Defining what matters at the moment, what to focus on, what to prioritise, what hill to take. Surrounding yourself with great people, from your direct team, to their teams and people within the business as a whole, to your clients, and your suppliers. Know who counts and why. Think about how they help you to get better and of course how you help them to improve too. And the talk of the energy, intensity and passion to fight for what you believe in is certainly about creating an environment, a culture, a this is the way we do things around here, and if you are in the right place, then you will be inspired by it. So, once again a big thank you to Jonathan for sharing his perspective on this.

CHI recently interviewed Jonathan Hughes, Partner and Practice Lead of Outsourcing and Supply Chain Management at Vantage Partners about the evolution of Sponsor-CRO strategic partnerships to date; challenges and opportunities in forming these types of partnerships; and an outlook on how these partnerships will continue to evolve. Discussion points and questions include: 1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the role you play at Vantage? 2. Forming strategic alliances with CROs has not traditionally been the route sponsors have taken. Why has this changed and where are we now? Also, how have sponsors and CROs adapted over the years? 3. What are some of the unforeseen risks and benefits of moving beyond a traditional customer-vendor relationship? 4. During the upcoming Strategic Alliance Management Congress Vantage will be hosting a luncheon workshop focused on managing sponsor-CRO partnerships. Can you give us any insights as to what attendees can expect to learn during this? 5. We like to end our podcasts with an outlook. In your opinion, how will Sponsor-CRO relationships continue to evolve? For more information, please visit http://www.HealthTech.com/AMS/

One firm ran a successful April Fool recently claiming to have invented and installed such a robot. However, is such a device likely to materialise soon? My guest today makes predictions about this and other developments based on work he and colleagues from RGA are carrying out in their Think Tank hidden in the depths of suburban Surrey. Hear how Jonathan thinks that an automated digital adviser is possible but would have to be able to persuade as well as deliver facts. Listen to his thoughts on whether an automated digital adviser working alongside its human counterpart could ultimately stimulate growth, not only in the protection, but in all financial services sectors. That's all right here in episode 41 of the Marketing Protection and Finance Podcast. Who is Jonathan Hughes? Jonathan qualified as an actuary in 2006 and is Head of Strategic Development at RGA in London. He is currently exiled in a small office out in Surrey with Richard Verdin and a few others working on ways to reverse the decline in Protection sales that we’ve seen over the past five years. A little known fact about Jonathan is that he once had his bags searched at Glasgow airport while carrying a list of different types of bomb and potential targets in London. Links and Show Notes. This is the Podcast for providers and advisers looking to share business ideas and inspiration in the world of protection and finance. The MPAF Podcast is a 30 minute audio show you download from (http://rogeredwards.co.uk/MPAF) , iTunes or Stitcher Radio. Each week I’ll be interviewing financial services providers, advisers, experts and journalists. Interviews to listen to in the car, on the train or on the treadmill. I’ll be asking what we can do to make protection and finance more accessible to the consumer. We’ll talk about: • Marketing, communications and propositions. • Financial and protection products • Interesting business models and campaigns as well discussing how advisers can promote their own businesses using modern content and social media methods. My aim is to make sure that you will get one or two big business ideas that you can apply to your own business. Whether it is a sales idea, advice idea, product tweak or simply an app that is worth looking at. I’m your host, Roger Edwards. A Marketer for 25 years, ex-MD of Bright Grey and Scottish Provident, content and social media champion, I’m now in business to help your business. Please subscribe to the Podcast on iTunes and I’d be grateful if you would leave a review. (http://rogeredwards.co.uk/itunes) Fancy Appearing on the Show? I made this latest mix for our annual trip to northern Wisconsin. I usually try to make one stargazing mix & one morning mix. The stargazing mix will be posted soon. This is the morning mix, to be listened to while drinking Intelligentsia coffee & reading the morning paper. At our northern cabin we didn't have daily newspapers so I made due with coffee, crossword puzzles & science fiction. To go with the morning coffee & sunlight reflecting off the calm lake waters, this music is suitably light. The majority of the tunes are new, most are from 2008. Some old favorites with new music make the mix, including Max Ritcher, Yellow 6, Milieu & Goldmund. New discoveries include Shirk, bvdub & Segue. So grab a cup, put your feet up & enjoy.
