How should you count The Police's "Bed's Too Big Without You?" Why do so many people revere Marty Friedman's solo on Megadeth's "Tornado of Souls"? What's going on with those pauses during the Bluey theme? And what the heck is that sound on Sly and the Family Stone's "Sex Machine"? Those questions and many more on the first mailbag episode of Season Seven. THE Worst Fans in Baseball - A St. Louis Cardinals Fan's Podcast
St. Louis Cardinals are in search of an identity that will match their colorful new manager. From 1980 to 1982, Whitey Herzog would serve as GM and would engage in some of the wildest transactions for his time. While he dealt superstars, slashed salaries, and brought in guys that played his kind of game, American labor found itself pitted against the anti-union bias of the Reagan administration. One union had emerged from the Long Seventies more powerful than its colleagues, and with it won emancipation and dignity for its members: The MLBPA. Led by Marvin Miller, the Player's Union would be begin a 16 year struggle for recognition and labor rights, changing the sport into the modern game that we have it today. While Herzog swapped big names between San Diego and Chicago, the players were readying for a showdown against the owners over free agency. Following the 1981 Strike, Herzog would finish arming a death star that would plague the NL for the next 5 years, this despite him never fully appreciating how the MLBPA set the stage for the Runnin' Redbirds to take place. The cultural significance of the Big Apple should not be understated, featuring heavily in music, television, and film. From Sinatra’s ‘New York, New York’ to Alicia Keys’ ‘Empire State of Mind’, it’s the concrete jungle where dreams are made. But how has the city fared during the coronavirus pandemic? Last year, Pulitzer fellow and New Yorker Kayla Popuchet joined Sputnik to give us a first-hand account of the situation ‘across the pond.’ Since then, homelessness has risen still further, there has been a spike in attacks on Asian Americans, and Governor Cuomo is facing a string of sexual assault allegations. So, we invited Kayla back onto the show to give us a whistle-stop overview of affairs from the Big Apple. For years, humanity has dreamed of exploring the solar system. As the years have gone on and technology has evolved, we’ve sent humans to the Moon and robots to Mars, so what next? Well, there are plans for five cities to be built on the Red Planet, according to the Mars Society. But is it all just some wild fantasy for the rich and famous? Will humans ever really be able to live anywhere other than Earth, or could it actually be viable to create livable conditions on Mars within our lifetime? We invited author, cosmologist, and futurist Keith Mansfield to join us on Sputnik to answer those very questions.

Chances are very strong that some library tunes are amongst your favourites….and you may not even be aware of it. Library music has been used in TV, film or advertisements, and is written and performed before there is even a requirement for it….a soundtrack looking for a movie. Welcome to episode 61 of See Hear Podcast. Shawn Lee, Sean Lamberth and Paul Elliott felt that the composers whose music rocked their world had been hidden in the shadows way too long, so together, they made a wonderful new documentary called The Library Music Film. It highlights the composers, musicians, fans and record labels that were part of the golden age of library music. In their world, Jerry Goldsmith and Lalo Schifrin give way to Keith Mansfield, John Cameron and Alan Hawkshaw. If those names don’t come to your mind, their music is more than likely lodged in it. Bernard, Tim and I were ecstatic to have director Paul Elliott join us to talk about the making of his film, library musicians, the fans and crate diggers who have played a large part in preserving the music and giving credit to the people who’d worked anonymously for years. We had a great old time putting names to tunes that had appeared in sports, comedy, kids and crime shows as well as a ton of other things (hip hop DJs have been sampling much of this music for years). A huge thanks to Paul for his time (and solving a 40 year old mystery for me). You can download the show by searching for See Hear podcast on iTunes, Spotify or Stitcher or you can download from http://seehear.podbean.com …..or whatever podcast app you favour. The limited edition soundtrack pressing is sold out, but the film is available on DVD fromhttps://thelibrarymusicfilm.bandcamp.com/merch/the-library-music-film-dvd-pal-2 To dip your toe in the water, we’d also recommend a record or CD called Unusual Sounds on Anthology Recordings. Keep an eye on the film’s Facebook page to see if there will be a screening in your town – it’s definitely worth our time. (https://www.facebook.com/LibraryMusicFilm/) If you dig what we do, could you please rate us at iTunes or even better, spread the word that the show exists on social media or at your next barbecue, gig, or marathon run so more folks can tune in. Please join our friendly Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/groups/seehearpodcast You can send us emails at seehearpodcast@gmail.com to suggest films you'd like us to discuss, give us your thoughts on what we do or anything else music-film related.

Ok Chill... kicking off 2012 with a trip to the library. A little mix dedicated to the many great library labels, musicians and composers; Alan Hawkshaw, Keith Mansfield, Alan Parker, Sammy Burdson, De Wolfe, KPM, Sylvester, Conroy Music to name a few. There's 1000's of good lib records worldwide but I would probably have to say that my faves came from London in the 60's & 70's and I think it has a lot to do with the cool production studios in the UK during that time. Funny, as a kid watching UK tv in the 70's & 80's funky grooves always popped on programs even the news & sports programs, I'm pretty sure the musicians would have listened to whatever was cool in the US at the time (Stevie, Herbie and Quincy Jones) then vibed off the influence. Of course library music has become a big and important part of Hip-hop and Beatmaking with producers and DJ's parting with plenty cash and traveling far and wide for a dope track, drum break or sample buried in tons of cheesy wackness. anyway hope you dig. PEACE. Marc Mac http://omniverse-records.bandcamp.com/ http://4hero.co.uk http://www.facebook.com/marcmac4hero
This is the last episode of Moon Down Radio for some time! I'm waiting for a new time slot, catching some rays, and doing other important work...such as catching rays. For the last and (possibly) final episode of Moon Down Radio, Brian Kay AKA the BK AKA Be Kalm, joined me in studio! 90% of this episode revolved around whether or not Julien could find a date, and maybe true love, on the website PlentyOfFish.com Brian had complete control over Julien's profile, and contacted different girls throughout the night...we even managed to get a girl off PlentyOfFish to call in...did Julien charm her with his cunning wit? Or did he blow it completely? Download the show and find out! Also on the show: Facebook Haters Julien gets pulled over by a homeless guy on a bike...
