We all have experienced worry at some point in our live. But excessive worry can cause mental, physical, and spiritual harm. In this episode we will be reviewing the book, “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living” by Dale Carnegie. This book has been of tremendous help in my journey so I will be highlighting a few key points that could serve in your journey as well!
Today's episode is part 3 of a 5-part book club series produced and hosted by Kelly Corrigan. The PBS host and author of four New York Times bestselling memoirs is taking a deep dive into the latest book from the Yale Center for Faith & Culture. Written by Miroslav Volf, Matt Croasmun, and Ryan McAnnally-Linz, Life Worth Living: A Guide to What Matters Most, the book is based on a Yale College course that takes up some of the most pressing questions of life, but doesn't keep the implications, challenges, confusion, and demands of those questions at arms length. Both the course and the book invite life-long learners to ask, “For any idea, if that idea were true, how would your life have to change?”In this episode, Kelly convenes a podcast book-club with two really cool friends: Kate Bowler—host of the Everything Happens podcast and Associate Professor of American Religious History at Duke Divinity School—and celebrated actress Claire Danes, who starred in the Showtime series Homeland and the 90s MTV hit series My So-Called Life.If you're interested in reading along with Kelly, Kate, and Claire, please visit lifeworthlivingbook.com—that's where you can find links to buy the book and a free discussion guide when you sign up for the Life Worth Living email list.About Kelly CorriganKelly Corrigan has written four New York Times bestselling memoirs in the last decade, earning her the title of “The Poet Laureate of the ordinary” from the Huffington Post and the “voice of a generation” from O Magazine. For well over a decade I've dedicated my time and energy to raising up an army of artists in God's Kingdom. I've taught countless artists how to thrive and experience the abundance of God with their art as a focal point. But the principles I've learned and shared all this time don't just apply to artists. They can apply to plumbers, teachers, car dealers, pharmacists… and to you! That's why I've written my new book, God's Plan for Living. This book, as well as the accompanying podcast that will be launching soon, is a vehicle to get the message of thriving in the Kingdom out to everybody, not just artists, and I couldn't be more excited to share it with you. So many Christians out there are frustrated about not seeing the Kingdom manifest in their lives the way they see it in the lives of others. They aren't doing anything wrong, they just don't know how to experience the Kingdom. That's why in God's Plan for Living, I'm sharing my I.D.E.A.L framework - identity, design, expansion, alignment, and love - to help you align with what God is calling you to do. If you've been listening to my podcasts and thinking, “But Matt, I'm not an artist,” this is the book for you. I want to encourage you to go ahead and buy a copy - the link is below - so we can work together on opening the doors of the Kingdom in your life. As most of you know, I wrote my book because I found so many self-help books for singles to be utterly UNhelpful! That being said, over the years, I did come across—thankfully!—several supportive and empowering books. In a few weeks we'll be celebrating National Unmarried & Single Americans week so I thought we'd kick off September with a review of some of my fav books for living single. They got me through the tough times and to this day, I recommend them to anyone who asks for advice about dating, dealing with single shaming, or recovering from a breakup. I hope these books will be as helpful to you as they were to me! Reflecting on Scripture The Life You've Always Wanted Part 32
Living books are a vital and necessary part of a living education. They are full of ideas and personality that sparks the imagination, imparting interest in the subject, and building a love for learning. But how do you know if a book is a living book? How do you tell a living from a dead book? Jeannie Fulbright shares the way you can tell almost immediately if a book is a living book. She gives examples from living books and twaddle. By implementing the method Jeannie describes, you can easily identify a living book. Host biography Jeannie Fulbright, a 24-year veteran homeschooler, is the author of the #1 best-selling, multi award-winning Apologia Young Explorer science series: Exploring Creation with Astronomy, Chemistry and Physics, Botany, Zoology, and Anatomy & Physiology. She is also the author of the action-packed historical time travel book series Rumble Tumbles Through Time, as well as preschool science books and activity kits, the Charlotte Mason Heirloom Planner, and many high-quality Charlotte Mason based products. Jeannie and her husband Jeff became empty nesters in 2019. All four of their children all went to the University of Georgia on scholarship (homeschooling works!). For more than 20 years Jeannie has traveled around the country speaking to homeschoolers at conventions, covering a plethora of topics from Charlotte Mason to marriage and prayer. I always find it helpful to have some "rules" to live by. Short statements that help keep me pointed in the right direction, ready to handle the challenges of life. And let's be honest: challenges are an unavoidable part of life. Those who tell you that having struggles, challenges, or illnesses is an indication that you are doing something wrong? They are wrong and misguided. Life is going to challenge each of us... right up until we die. Which every one of us will do. So the question is how we live our lives. Today. Right now. Regardless of what life is throwing your way. What we often do, in the face of a challenge: Worry, Complain, Avoid. All three keep us stuck, frozen in place and to the challenge ahead of us. So, I have decided instead, to adopt the rule of "Act or Accept." I will either act toward resolution, or I will accept where I am. And the acceptance? It need not be permanent. It is about where I am right now. It may be waiting for a possible action. Let's talk about this rule and how to apply it. Listen to the podcast episode below. Good morning everyone! Thank you for tuning in to Motivated Entrepreneurs! Today we have a book review and it's called How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie. It’s about worrying and how to stop it. I devoured this book. It was a 10-hour listen, but it was superb the whole way through. What I am talking about now is probably about a tenth of what I wrote down. And I believe every single person has an element of worry. Life becomes a lot better when we don’t worry. Give it a listen. Over it (the Hell-Fire) are appointed nineteen (wardens). (74:30) Commentary NUMBER 19: When we analyze the verses of the Quran and the various topics which are covered within this Living Book, we see that out of the 6,000+ verses, almost 1/3 or over 2,000 of them speak about the Day of Judgement, and the eventual outcomes of Heaven and Hell. This should be a wakeup call for us to take our actions in this life more seriously as there will be a day of accountability. However, much of what we read in the Quran about that Day and Paradise and Hell seem abstract, and truly much of it is steeped in metaphorical language which Allah has ‘watered down’ for us to better understand – and many times drawing from parallels in our world and how it works. One such example is the verse in question from Surah al-Muddatthir in which Allah tells us that there are 19 wardens which are appointed to guard over the fire of Hell. We believe that Allah is All-Powerful and that He can do anything, yet we see that some of His workings, He appoints certain angels do carry out the tasks. For revelation, He relies on Jibrāʾil; for taking the souls of humanity, He tasks ʿIsrāʾīl; when He destroys communities, like he did to the people of Prophet Lūṭ, the Quran says that He employed two angels to carry out this task - but WHY the need for 19 angels to guard Hell – why not 18 or 20 angels to oversee the punishments? From the commentaries of this verse, it seems that we have no related statements from the Prophet or Imams which explain WHY this specific number was chosen. Ayatullah Makarim Shirazi has given a possibility that it could be that the figure of 19 is made up of two numbers “1” and “9” – and “1” is the smallest number and “9” is the largest number – and from these (obviously apart from “0”) all other numbers are derived. Other scholars have stated that the sources of all negative ethical traits are 19, and since these adverse traits can lead to the punishment of Allah, thus the 19 levels of Hell are the same number and in each level, there is an angel or group of angels who are in charge of carrying out the punishments. Ultimately however, there are some things which are still ambiguous in regards to this number and why Allah chose it, however we must submit that there is a meaning and wisdom behind it – even if we still are not acquainted with it. Point of Reflection If one angel has the power to take the souls of all of humanity; and two angels can destroy an entire city and all of its inhabitants; then indeed nineteen angels (or groups of angels) can over-see the punishments of all of those destined for Hell – this is not something challenging for Allah!

The New Year. It is upon us. And along with the start of a new year is an opportunity for us to re-start. To make some changes. To find some ways to charge into the New Year, with a new approach. Maybe even a new attitude! Many people make resolutions around this time. And most of those resolutions are broken by February. Gyms are full in January and quiet again in February. Health foods fly out the doors in January, only to be tossed to make room for cookies and chips in February. Change is a tall order... unless you have some clarity to your change. Some simple approach that makes your hopes and dreams a part of your life. Let's make a 4 step plan for charging into the New Year. (And even if you listen to this episode at some other time in the year... guess what? You can use the exact same 4 steps at any time!) Start the year right... by making a fresh start! Blame is rampant in today's world. We all quickly point the finger at someone/something else, proclaiming, "It's not my fault!" Interestingly, I also notice how rampant it is for people to take the credit for successes. They/we claim credit for what goes right but refuse blame for anything that goes wrong. We live in a "culture of blame." Which is what often keeps us from growing. From changing. From learning from our mistakes. If someone/something else is to blame, what could I (or you) do? Not my fault... not my problem. Change requires us to change the equation. To take responsibility, when we are responsibible. To share credit when others deserve credit. Great leadership is about accepting ultimate responsibility for mistakes and problems, while giving credit for successes. So, how do we turn the equation around? I discuss it in this week's Thriveology Podcast. RELATED RESOURCES Responsibility NMF Syndrome In Marriage Showing Up Thrive Principles Book Immutable Laws of Living Book

Everyone has their issues in life and I try to pay attention to what everyone needs for me as a father or grandfather, but I first make certain that I'm okay myself. I can't be the best dad in the world unless I become the best person in the world. And you can substitute dad for anything else you want: driver, teacher, writer, whatever. It starts out with you as a great person. Thoughts on Breathing I used to breathe a lot better, I think when I was meditating. Meditation is one of the things where you get in the habit of it and then you get out of the habit of it. Easy to do, easy not to do - Jim Rohn. I should breathe better. The one thing that I have learned to do is breathe as a speaker, so I speak from my diaphragm rather than from my throat. I'm well aware of that process because I've had a couple of throat operations. Heredity has caused a couple of polyps on my vocal folds and after they were removed I literally went to speech therapy to relearn how to fill my diaphragm with air and then expel it as I'm speaking and take that breath before I start to speak again. So it's, it's a habit now. I guess I probably concentrate on breathing more than most people without actually thinking about it.
