Did you know that employees are more likely to stay at an organization when they view their leader as empathetic?  Of all the traits that make for great leadership, empathy is near the top of the list–and according to this week's podcast guest, it's going to be increasingly important for the next generation. Pattie Dale Tye is the Consulting COO for Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC and a Board Member of Trilogy Health Services, LLC. Pattie Dale is also a C-suite veteran with over 30 years of experience leading companies to new heights. She spent over a decade with AT&T, leading sales and operations for the company's largest accounts. In her time with Humana, Pattie Dale was instrumental in the company's multibillion-dollar Large Employer Segment. She is also the best-selling Forbes Author of Ordinary to Extra-Ordinary. Challenges for the Next Generation of Leaders Any entrepreneur who led a team through the pandemic knows how difficult it can be to connect virtually. Leaders need to model behavior, and that's much more difficult to do online. Pattie recommends meeting in person as much as possible. If that's not possible, look for ways to bring the whole team together for virtual events. Another challenge is that Gen Z and millennials don't have a lot of trust in leadership–so you need to work harder to earn their loyalty. They're driven by purpose, autonomy, and flexibility, and they want to work for leaders who share those values. Look for ways to demonstrate those values and show that you care about them as individuals.  Leading with Empathy and Generosity According to Pattie Dale, the two most important characteristics of a leader are empathy and generosity. You need to know the people you're leading and understand where they're coming from. Let them know that you're invested in their success and that they can come to you when they need support. As for generosity, focus on giving back to your team. Replace a “survival of the fittest” mentality with generosity. If someone is struggling, offer to help. Make yourself available. Being approachable can help you get the best of everyone. Enjoy this episode with Pattie Dale Tye… Soundbytes 14:00-14:26 “When it's a customer with a problem that I can help solve in a way that helps that entity flourish, it just lights me up, because you know that had a multiplier effect–that didn't just help that person, that executive that day, or that leader that day, that allowed them to feed many, many families and to grow business in a much more expansive way.” 18:46-19:24 “We need to be leading with empathy right now. And I love to say you need to be leading with generosity. You need to get to know the people you're leading and understand where they're coming from and why they have the notions about leadership they do, because we understand that 50% of the Gen Z's don't have respect nor trust in leadership, and we need to. We need to get to the root cause and let them know that you have as much vested in their success as hopefully they have in their own success.”  Quotes “I was very ordinary until I learned what might make me extraordinary.” “As long as I'm helping solve a problem and release energy to the universe, I'm a happy camper.” “Stop coming to work in a survival mode and come to work in a giving mode.” “If you're not an approachable leader, you're not going to get the best out of your people.” Links mentioned in this episode: From Our Guest Visit Pattie's website: http://pattiedaletye.com  Connect with Pattie on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/pattie-dale-tye/  Connect with brandiD Download our free guide to learn 16 crucial website updates that attract more leads and convert visitors into clients: https://thebrandid.com/website-tweaks/ Ready to elevate your digital presence with a powerful brand or website? The reality is, Millennials are no longer the “new kids on the block” in the workforce. They are the majority, and even mid-career. Millennial are ages 27-43, prime ages to take on new managerial and leadership roles. It's the “earning years” if you will. However, over the past decade, the conversation of Millennials in the workplace has been rife with misunderstanding. Stereotypes like entitlement, lack of commitment, resistance to adversity, etc. are all too easy to apply to an age demographic, and assumptions are aplenty. It is doubly difficult when the even the most talented among them struggle to garner the respect of older co-workers and direct reports, some of whom are more experienced than their Millennial boss. But there IS a way to turn the stereotypes on their head and find traction in today's marketplace. If Millennials go to the next level in self-awareness, they could very well be the necessary bridge between two generations (Boomers/Gen-X & Gen Z).LINKS & RESOURCES:A New Kind of Diversity: Making The Different Generations On Your Team A Competitive Advantage | Tim ElmoreMillennials in Management Roles | ForbesOvercoming Millennial Stereotypes in the Workplace | Wharton UPennSimon Sinek | Millennials in the Workplace | Simon SinekBurned Out Millennials Are Rethinking If They Want To Be The Boss | CNBCWhen Millennials Become Managers | UnifocusWhat Everyone Needs To Understand About Millennial Bosses | Inc. In this episode, Steve and Brad talk about an article from Harvard Business Review entitled “Millennial Managers Can Change Company Culture for the Better”. The two dive into a deep conversation about how Millennials provide unique leadership in the workforce. The whole article revolves around key steps that a manager could use to provide a better culture in the organization. Steve and Brad will touch on a variety of topics about company culture from transparency, communication, expectations, and many more. Tune in and listen to their personal opinion and views on the topic. Episode Highlights1:28 When Millennials first entered the workforce, there was this connotation with their work culture, work ethic, and how willing they were to dive in, get their hands dirty, take the time to understand things, and work through things.4:30 They are totally in the middle. You've got the superiors thinking one thing, they've got their subordinates going in a whole different direction so the stress that they feel is insurmountable and it is a lot easier for them to align, if you will, with those that have similar thoughts as they do.6:45 As we're trying to build that trust, both up and down, there's a level of transparency that those managers need to be displaying but unfortunately, people can't handle full transparency.18:06 Creativity is immensely important to solving whatever comes up.19:47 The question becomes, how much do you spend on that versus doing the thing that's making you the cash to create the output and go forward?21:44 When we talk cultural fit, we're not talking purpose of the company, as this article really is talking about more, you know, what gives them purpose. We're talking about how well you fit in with other companies that you are interviewing at. In this episode of Virtually Limitless Trey Carmichael interviewed Connor LaRocque the top millennial leadership influencer in Canada. Connor graduated from Laurentian University with a Law degree and Minor in Communications. While completing his studies, he published two motivational based books. His second booked ranked 43rd out of 100 on the Canadian National Best-seller list under the “Success” category. Rather than going to Law School and becoming a Lawyer, Connor had two options: Get an MBA or start a company. He choose the latter and joined a company his brother had started. There he worked diligently learning door to door skills from his brother who completely changed his life and gave him a new perspective. In the depth of winter, he was fed up selling door to door and decided he wanted to go on his own. He and his brother completed an acquisition and he went on to found LA Roqk Enterprises and co-found SocialRise Revenue Marketing Agency. Tyler Olson, Founder of Modern Foundation joins us to talk about why employee engagement is the key to building a successful agency and what he’s learned about coaching and growing Millennial leaders in the over 10 companies he’s founded over the years.

Leaders Of Transformation | Leadership Development | Conscious Business | Global Transformation

Andrew Senduk is on a mission to inspire leadership within the millennial generation and ignite a digital mindset. He has worked for top tier consulting and banking firms, and has 10 years of e-commerce and entrepreneurial experience in both Europe and South East Asia.  He has built multiple venture capital backed companies and raised over $25M USD. His most recent venture scaled from 0-500 people in 18 months.  Based in Indonesia, Andrew sees tremendous potential in the millennial generation there as 50% of the population is under the age of 30. His goal is to transform their mindset from executing orders to becoming a leader – leading themselves and others. In today's conversation, Andrew describes his experience working with millennials and the proven 6-step process he teaches in his new book, Ignite Millennial Leadership.  By 2025, 75% of the global workforce will be millennials. Andrew's dream is for Indonesia's millennial generation to play a major role in the global economy, and the key to this becoming a reality is leadership. Listen in as he shares how he plans to do it and learn how to unlock the secret to effectively leading millennials in your organization. Key Takeaways You can unleash the potential in a person (working for you), if you build a relationship with them. Communication is connection, connection is engagement and once you can engage them you can actually dig deeper into what they want. Teaching them self-awareness so they understand what they are good at and what they are not good at is crucial for them to excel in their career and life. Whether we want to or not we are all influencing others. Inspire from a deeper level instead of just trying to motivate millennials. Love people and use things. Human capital is the most valuable resource we have. Why are Millennials so ‘messed up’?  How are we going to develop them into future leaders? There’s nothing really wrong with them.  They are a product of certain values.   They are still the future, and they are uniquely qualified to succeed as leaders as we shift away from centralized, big-box models of business and art. We have to care.  They need good information and good mentors We have to show them how to lock into their purpose, and then to foster the mindsets and habits that our institutions have failed to teach them

What makes Millennials tick? This week we get valuable insights from Psychologist Meghan Reid. “Millennials really want to find purpose or meaning in their work, even right away and in entry level roles. They like good communication so if a Leader can effectively relate the organizational purpose, they will get buy-in.” Based in Toronto, Meghan is a Career and Workplace Psychologist for both individuals and organizations. She focuses on career and personal counselling. She has worked with hundreds of clients to help them make strategic and informed career-related decisions, often pertaining to their ideal career fit. “Millennials are not lazy, but they may not see their role in the big picture.” Her areas of focus within the personal counselling sphere involve: anxiety, depression, self-esteem and confidence, self compassion, communication, interpersonal concerns, and boundary setting. Her organizational/corporate work centres around team dynamics and effectiveness as well as workplace culture. “Millennials are results oriented. It’s all about their output and contribution rather than the letters or status. They want to be more flexible as a result of their use of technology.” Meghan is a seasoned facilitator and has worked with teams/groups of all sizes. Meghan earned her Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from McGill University. She is a Registered Psychologist in both Ontario and Alberta and is a Certified Emergenetics Associate. Episode 005 of the Agriculture Proud Podcast takes us to Colorado for a visit with Sarah Bohnenkamp. Sarah is a leadership coach who works with and helps us work with millennials. I met Sarah a few years back working with the American National CattleWomen's Beef Ambassador program and we've kept in touch over the years. She's a gal full of energy and some great advice who can help all of us better understand our own leadership skills and work better with those around us – even on farms and ranches. Currently, I'm working with Sarah to put on a Leadership Series in conjunction with the Montana Stockgrowers Association as we work with a group of young ranchers throughout the year to be better leaders in their communities and in their careers. Sarah also helps me address a question submitted by readers. How do we respond to friends and relatives when disagreement arises surrounding controversial topics – such as GMOs, antibiotics in meat, etc.? We want to preserve those relationships, but it's not always the easiest conversation to address. Sarah gives us some great advice to help with these situations. You can find Sarah Bohnenkamp online at sarahjos.com or on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Periscope! I hope you enjoy this episode of the Agriculture Proud podcast.
