It's all about acoustic portal-opening soundscapes this episode - a welcome change of pace from just shooting rockets into the sky (though there's still a little of that too!) - especially since they use an indigenous band called Blazing Bear to play ancient traditional tribal music to try and trigger up some UAPs…and maybe a little more than they bargained for. “Why can't anybody hear me?!”The Fascinating Origins of a Classic Horror FilmIn the early 1960s, director Herk Harvey stumbled upon an abandoned amusement park in Salt Lake City, sparking the idea for what would become the classic horror film Carnival of Souls. With a shoestring budget and a cast of mostly unknown actors, Harvey set out to capture the haunting atmosphere of that desolate park. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we kick off the One-and-Done series with a conversation about Harvey's 1962 film Carnival of Souls.Exploring the Liminal Space Between Life and DeathOur discussion of Carnival of Souls delves into the film's unique storytelling approach and its exploration of the space between life and death. We examine how the protagonist, Mary Henry (played by Candace Hilligoss), navigates this liminal space after surviving a tragic car accident, and how her experiences blur the lines between reality and the supernatural.Throughout our conversation, we touch on:The effective use (overuse?) of organ music and striking visual imageryThe ambiguity of certain scenes and their room for interpretationThe film's influence on later horror moviesA Timeless Classic That Continues to CaptivateDespite its low budget and relatively unknown cast, Carnival of Souls has endured as a classic of the horror genre. Its haunting imagery, ambiguous storytelling, and exploration of existential themes continue to captivate audiences decades after its initial release. We have a great time talking about it, so check it out then tune in. We bid farewell to Joseph Cotten - an institution on Suspense. The star of The Third Man made 18 appearances on "radio's outstanding theater of thrills," and we'll hear his final shows, including an adaptation of Ambrose Bierce's "An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge" (originally aired on CBS on December 15, 1957). In his last starring role on Suspense, Cotten plays a man trying to save one of his former soldiers from prisons both mental and physical in "Red Cloud Mesa" (originally aired on CBS on August 2, 1959). Plus, he recreates his role from Shadow of a Doubt on Academy Award (originally aired on CBS on September 11, 1946) and he pinch hits as a secret agent in The Man Called X (originally aired on NBC on July 6, 1951).

More than 80 per cent of public transport workers say they have been the target of abuse and more than half say antisocial behaviour is an issue for them at least once a week. That is according to a new survey by trade union SIPTU who are looking for the establishment of a dedicated transport police. Is there too much anti-social behaviour on public transport? Do we need transport police? Andrea was joined by Matt Rice, Go Ahead Ireland and Alan and Raymond who have experience working in public transport...

On this episode, Laura, Krysta and Dean take a look at the mysterious events of the Dyatlov Pass Incident, but first, Krysta drops some Weird Facts on Mountains. Then we look at Dyatlov Pass. We look at the hikers, their training and resources, the group, the hike and then we examine the theories surrounding their disappearance. And while we cannot say anything like 'it's solved' we certainly examine this weird little moment in Russian history and give our best accounting of it.
She starts with the quote ‘You shall know a word by the company it keeps’, which is really cool. She uses seashore as an example, which is perfect because we are sitting on the beach in Brighton with the seagulls in the background (but that isn’t the reason she chooses the example, surprisingly). Dawn is a super interested in academic papers and their importance to industry, so we end up talking a great deal about that… I assume that academic papers come from university, and Dawn gently corrects me and gives several really interesting examples of academics in industry at Google, Spotify, Yahoo… Conclusion is that industry would not be funding these studies if there were no commercial potential. Her (convincing) argument is PhDs are often the precursors of commercial implementation and patents, so she has the jump on pretty much all of us. Finally, NLP and BERT – whereas NLP will look left, then right of a word, whereas BERT looks both ways at the same time and thus vastly widens the context window. And that is going to revolutionise machine understanding of context clouds, co-occurence, relatedness (and probably RankBrain). She then goes on the theorise of what is coming next, which is wildly mind-blowing (and VERY hard to keep up with her). Listening back now to the conversation, I can picture multiple jaw drops. The future is about machines understanding language more and more within the idea of entities, knowledge graphs and… context.

Tune in and yo uwill hear about this, a McDonald's that serves aborted fetus Chicken McNuggets(TM), and the most entertaining round of Stump the Robotuner!Join us live every Sunday on Mixlr at 7:00PM Central U.S. Time and stalk us on Facebook!Check out the other 'casts I support: The Jerry Jonestown Massacre Funkytown Podcast Atypical DFW Podcast Digital Frustrations Bropocalypse Trade Paper Hacks The Intoxicated Gamer Epic Podquest Send us all your hate and criticism to fujiwah@gmail.com
This week, we broadcast from our vacation home on South Padre Island where we compete with a pair of Macaws for microphone time. We also talk about Ready Player One, some crazy dude who killed himself by drinking and setting off a firework of his head and Shelly has an uncanny desire to come to Miley Cyrus’ defense after I call her a slut during another round of Stump the Robotuner! The Jerry Jonestown Massacre Join us live every Sunday on Mixlr at 7:00PM Central U.S. Time and stalk us on Facebook! If you're still with us after this episode, bless you. I finally pull the trigger get an an XBox One, Kenneth sounds like he's talking on a bullhorn on Skype, and Shelly talks about BJ's restaurant and their reward of 10,000 worth of food from their restaurant if you have a baby and name is Quinoa.Join us live every Sunday on Mixlr at 7:00PM Central U.S. Time and stalk us on Facebook!Send us all your hate and criticism to fujiwah@gmail.com
I blame Gotham's return for a description that's insightful. Shelly's brother Kenneth joins us as a regular member of the show and my sister, Heather joins us once again as we talk about why you shouldn't hire a single white person to landscape your yard and other chaotic moments. We also give a teaser for a new bit we'll be trying out in the near future called Redpants Playhouse Presents.Join us live every Sunday on Mixlr at 7:00PM Central U.S. Time and stalk us on Facebook!Send us all your hate and criticism to fujiwah@gmail.com
We are joined this week by my ally in the podcasting world, Dustin Schneider from The Jerry Jonestown Massacre. This week, we talk about my adventures with poison ivy where my eye swells up and everyone thinks that Shelly hits me for not making her a sandwich, I also went to Deep Ellum to see a bunch of great bands on Do For It Records, a woman in Mexico who died and 800 dogs show up at her funeral, and Dustin and I play stump the Robotuner music trivia against each other and it comes pretty damn close!Join us live every Sunday on Mixlr at 7:00PM Central U.S. Time and stalk us on Facebook!Send us all your hate and criticism to fujiwah@gmail.com
Sadly, this will be my last occurence for a while, since I'll be selling off all my stuff to pay for my upcoming legal battles against the publishers of the songs that I cover for my intro and exit music. Why not go out with a bang, right? This week, we go another round of stump the Robotuner and talk about my gig with The Confounded Saturday night along with a crazy bitch who stabbed her boyfriend in the crotch over a bowl of salsa.
Having endured the cleansing of both sheds filled full of shit that was left behind by my grandparents, we bring you this week's occurence. We talk about the local bands I saw on Friday at the Boiler Room, Redefine, Vinyl, and New Magnetic North; powdered alcohol mix, celebs that also have their own bands, and Round 2 of Stump Robotuner! Greatness is sure to be had!Join us live every Sunday on Mixlr at 7:00PM Central U.S. Time and stalk us on Facebook!Send us all your hate and criticism to fujiwah@gmail.com
This week my older sister, Heather joins us at the courtyard of Castle Fujiwah where she gives Shelly and I some education about events called Burns and the chaos that goes on during them. I also have a new found confidence in myself for this podcast after seeing the family magician we went to see for my birthday and name off some bizarre facts about the Super Mario Brothers games.Join us live every Sunday on Mixlr at 7:00PM Central U.S. Time and stalk us on Facebook!Send us all your hate and criticism to fujiwah@gmail.com
I press record. I play the intro. I get my car back. I go to my band's lead singer's wedding which is at a record store. I do a monologue saluting Atypical DFW podcast. I bitch about the weather. I scat and try to come up with more phrases on the fly to coin. Shelly tries to stump me with music trivia. She fails. I talk about The Evil Within. I give a shout out to the other podcasts I support. I play my exit music. I press stop. I upload the occurence. You listen.Stalk us on Facebook and send us all your hate and criticism to fujiwah@gmail.com
This week, we have our first guests/live audience in the atrium of Castle Fujiwah. We are joined by Shelly's brother, Kenneth and his kids as we discuss Snowmageddon 2015, a lady from Texas who claims she's pregnant with Satan's baby, another lady who claims her mother is re-incarnated as a balloon, the magic of Shut up and Prance's Wondercrust movie club, and the probable return of ToeJam and Earl!Stalk us on Facebook and send us all your hate and criticism to fujiwah@gmail.com
Shelly came unprepared for this week's occurence after just finishing up with an estrogen....err, jewelry party. I stall for time going on about the canceling of what was supposed to be our first guest, ranting a bit about the oscars, and the slight disappointment of what is known as the ending of Indigo Prophecy.Join us live every Sunday on Mixlr at 7:00PM Central U.S. Time and stalk us on Facebook!Send us all your hate and criticism to fujiwah@gmail.com
Because we all know what Valentine's day is REALLY about. This week, we discuss this amongst Samsung making Big Brother TVs, assassination attempts on Punxsutawney Phil, and a recap of our weekend events that would have made our valentine's day outings impossible had we not celebrated them a week earlier.Join us live every Sunday on Mixlr at 7:00PM Central U.S. Time and stalk us on Facebook!Send us all your hate and criticism to fujiwah@gmail.com
Shelly is returned this week which somehow equals our longest occurence yet! In this occurence, we discuss Dallas Comic Con, easter eggs in Marvel movies, doomsday predictions, and big brother Google all while I fight the start of a cold. **I move away from the microphone to sniffle and sneeze.Join us live every Sunday on Mixlr at 7:00PM Central U.S. Time and stalk us on Facebook!Send us all your hate and criticism to fujiwah@gmail.com
After debating on whether or not I should even upload it two days after recording it, here it is. Just me. I recorded this week's occurence on Monday because of the Super Bowl and decided to just go alone because Shelly had to work late. Whipped through this one by touching a bit on the Super Bowl, Suge Knight, Bobby Kristina Brown's hospitalization, and Tim Commorford's new band, Future User. I also announce what video games my intro and exit music are from and chat off an on with Dustin from JJTM in the Mixlr chat which seems in retrospect that I'm talking to myself.Join us live every Sunday on Mixlr at 7:00PM Central U.S. Time and stalk us on Facebook!Send us all your hate and criticism to fujiwah@gmail.com
After upgrading to a Macbook air, I test the waters with Occurence 3 for your listening enjoyment, amusement, disgust, or all of the above. Take your pick. We talk about the greatness that is Henry the Archer, real Texas laws that are so ridiculous they're funny, and Shelly gets philosophical to the point which I feel like we're having a public couples therapy session. Plus, half my leg falls asleep due to the awkward positing I was sitting in and I have to let out my dog every 10 minutes it seemed like!I have also increased the reward in my contest to name the video games that my intro and exit music are taken from to $20 gift card to Amazon, iTunes, or Steam! A podcast of no consequence featuring an array of timbre to assist in the passing of time.....and Redpants! Fort Worth, Texas musician and geek, Matt Thomas along with his girlfriend, Shelly, and her brother Kenneth bring you weekly news stories, BS about their lives and relationship, talk music and video games, and have the occasional guest. It's really a means of couple's therapy that we're making public for our own self-gratification! Or....maybe not.....
My incubation is complete! Better than a late night (insert mobile game title here) binge, here it is, our first occurence. I have broken out of the womb into the podcasting web and the world is its spider. Shelly and I awkwardly introduce ourselves, talk about banning of the color yellow in Malaysia, phallic play-doh molds, and our favorite video games of 2014.Join us live every Sunday on Mixlr at 7:00PM Central U.S. Time and stalk us on Facebook!Send us all your hate and criticism to fujiwah@gmail.com
Look, I know we promised that today we'd be unleashing our Mega-Franklins that awarded the best and worst episodes for the entire run of the series, but we needed a little more time to make it the greatest podcast in recorded history. Instead, we decided to give you this fun bonus episode. After recording The Franklins for the fifth season, I kept the mics rolling as I surprised Jeff Cork with a pop quiz. I read off the title for all 156 episodes of The Twilight Zone to test how well we remember this show that we've devoted so much time to studying and debating. You can listen to the podcast below or subscribe to us on iTunes. Stay tuned next week for our ultimate awards show, it'll be fun. I hope this episode serves as a nice reminder of some episodes you might have forgotten. Occurence of pathogenic Y. enterocolitica 4/O:3 in pork in southern Germany The prevalence of pathogenic Yersinia enterocolitica in pork products in Southern Germany was studied because no data is available of distribution of this pathogen at retail level in Germany. A total of 300 meat products containing pork from different plants were collected between May and August year 2000. These samples consist of 215 raw and 85 heat-treated products. The samples were studied with different culture methods: direct plating, overnight enrichment in TSB combined with alkali treatment, selective enrichment in MRB and ITC, and cold enrichment in TSB followed by alkali treatment. Y. enterocolitica was isolated from selective CIN agar plates. Urea-positive colonies were identified using API 20E. Y. enterocolitica isolates were bio- and serotyped, and the pathogenicity was confirmed with Congo red binding and Calcium dependence on CRMOX agar plates. Pathogenic Y. enterocolitica was recovered from raw meat products but not from heat-treated products. The isolation rate of Y. enterocolitica 4/O:3 in minced meat was 9.0%. This type was also found two times (7.4%) from raw pork. All pathogenic Y. enterocolitica isolates were belonging to bioserotype 4/O:3. Selective enrichment in ITC was shown to be the most productive method for raw meat products. No pathogenic Y. enterocolitica isolates could be recovered after non- selective enrichment even when combined with alkali treatment. These results show that raw pork can be one source of Y. enterocolitica 4/O:3 infections among humans in Southern Germany. This study also demonstrates that no pathogenic Y. enterocolitica can be found without selective enrichment.

Tonight, we'll visit a classic story that I am ashamed to admit I had not experienced before now! I was hunting through horror stories in the public domain so I could compile a long horror video for sleep for you! I began to read this story in a more measured, compressed delivery so that it would not disturb your rest, but soon found myself, much like our protagonist, getting SWEPT UP in the action! For many of you this story will require no introduction, and I dare not spoil the twists and turns the story takes here. So without further introduction; This story is called: An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridgeby Ambrose Bierce
