For this interview special of Electric Friends, I'm speaking to Andy Gray, one of the most sought-after DJs, songwriters, producers and composers of the last few decades.Andy made a name for himself in the early 90s in the growing dance music scene, with his remixes and work with his group Amoeba Assassin, and for his work with Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto label. He has gone on to produce or remix music by a wide range of artists such as The Human League, Tori Amos, New ORder, Tears for Fears, Moby, U2, John Foxx and many more.He is also a prolific film and TV soundtrack composer, on projects such as Swordfish, Get Carter and Hunters, and he also composed and produced the iconic Big Brother theme in the UK.He has also had a long association with Gary Numan, whom he counts as a good friend. He has collaborated and remixed Gary's music many times, including appearances on the Hybrid, Jagged and Dead Son Rising albums. In particular, he remixed the brilliant version of A Prayer for the Unborn, which we hear at pretty much every Gary Numan gig today.I caught up with Andy to talk about his career, how Gary's music inspired him as a youth, and what his experiences of working with Gary have been, and what we can look forward to in the future. For Episode 105, Radical Research follows the lead of musical polyglot and overachiever, Steven Wilson. Inspired by Wilson's recently-curated, Intrigue: Progressive Sounds in UK Alternative Music 1979-1989, this episode traces out the music found on the first disc of this four-volume edition, digging into such varied artists as Public Image Ltd., John Foxx, In Camera, and This Heat. This constitutes the first in a four-part series around Wilson's collection, which we will revisit occasionally throughout 2024. Should you have any interest in the rich mosaic of the late 1970s/early 1980s UK underground, tune in, turn on, and experiment out. Note I: As mentioned late in the episode, here is further reading on the Durutti Column's sandpaper packaging of their Return of the Durutti Column album: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Return_of_the_Durutti_Column Note II: Please consider donating if you listen to Radical Research often: https://www.paypal.me/rrpodcast We also have a webstore where you can find shirts, CDs, and books, many of them recently restocked: http://radicalresearch.org/shop/ Music cited in order of appearance: intro: Peter Hammill, “Nobody's Business” (Nadir's Big Chance, 1975) [all snippets in this episode are taken from the Intrigue compilation; the following indicates where the songs initially appeared] Wire, “I Should Have Known Better” (154, 1979) Bill Nelson's Red Noise, “A Better Home in the Phantom Zone” (Sound on Sound, 1979) Magazine, “Back to Nature” (Secondhand Daylight, 1979) XTC, “Complicated Game” (Drums and Wires, 1979) Public Image Ltd, “Careering” (Metal Box, 1979) The Stranglers, “The Raven” (The Raven, 1979) Punishment of Luxury, “Puppet Life” (Puppet Life 7”, 1979) Ultravox, “Astradyne” (Vienna, 1980) Gang of Four, “Contract” (Entertainment!, 1979) Simple Minds, “I Travel” (Empires and Dance, 1980) The Durutti Column, “Sketch for Summer” (The Return of the Durutti Column, 1980) This Heat, “Health and Efficiency” (Health and Efficiency [EP], 1980) John Foxx, “Burning Car” (Burning Car 7”, 1980) Robert Fripp and the League of Gentlemen, “Cognitive Dissonance” (The League of Gentlemen, 1981) In Camera, “The Fatal Day” (Fin [EP], 1982) Radical Research is a conversation about the inner- and outer-reaches of rock and metal music. This podcast is conceived and conducted by Jeff Wagner and Hunter Ginn. Though we consume music in a variety of ways, we give particular privilege to the immersive, full-album listening experience. Likewise, we believe that tangible music formats help provide the richest, most rewarding immersions and that music, artwork, and song titles cooperate to produce a singular effect on the listener. Great music is worth more than we ever pay for it.
My fellow travelers of the aural universe, I'm so very happy to have you all here as we lazily flow into a continuation of the Mental Drift series. As with any amalgamation that is woven, special consideration is given to those of you that may feel alarmed by disruptive and angular sonic anomalies. Our mission here at the Spaceman's Transmissions laboratory is optimized towards the analyzation of our sketches. It is during these rigorous processes that the removal of diluted mish-mash and scratchy, if not, dull and turbulent static are discarded. Dear listeners, we have baked you a morsel of mental release made with only the freshest natural ingredients. All allergy free. This sweetly baked bite-sized snack is a mere hour(ish) of an escape journey, and is one which requires only a very tiny fraction of of your devotion. This will allow you to paint your grey matter with colorful light and provide your creative spirit a smooth path inward towards your cerebral control center. Allow the gears of your mind the pleasure of connecting with what really matters: you! Sink deep into your own universe, you owe yourself that. There will be no bumps or turbulence along the way, as we are drifting calmly and slowly upon a mental breeze of comfort and beauty. Take a moment to gaze skyward and marvel at how wonderful you are. Celebrate your uniqueness with a smile and a sense of motivation towards your utopian sunset. Don't hurry through this journey. Rather, let the slight breeze set the course of the voyage. It will steadily (and purposefully) carry you to where your creative oasis resides. Stay there awhile, and rejoice over the beauty of everything around you. Your old boy Tonepoet is there to ensure that your mellow flight of peace is every bit as rejuvenating as it should be. Revisit Spaceman's Transmissions often, and invite your loved ones along so that they, too, may take advantage of the mental reset that we afford everyone. The journey was, is, and always will be a free ticket to the calm skies within your amazingly underappreciated personal space: the galaxy between your ears. Takashi Kokubo, “A Dream Sails Out To Sea - Scene 3” (2019 Light In The Attic). Originally released in 1987, this track was part of the new wave of Japanese ambient music. By that time, Kokubo was already reknown for his synthesizer skills on a part with Isao Tomita. He turned to sound design and ambient music and has been instrumental in addition to creating such sounds as the nationally-used mobile phone earthquake alert and credit card payment jingles. Yoichiro Yoshikawa, “Nube” from Cyprus (1988 Eastworld). Original sound track of Japanese TV program. Yoshikawa was already a reliable session musician when he acquired one of the first Phophet-5 synthesizers in Japan. He quickly became a go-to composer for television and other purposes, such as soundscapes for museum exhibitions. Tetsu Inoue, “Low of Vibration” from Ambiant Otaku (1994 Fax +49-69/450464). Before I met Tetsu around the year 2000, I was fascinated by music such as this which had all of the elements of ambient music—slow and forming harmonies, spatial rhythms rather than beats, and a sustained energy throughout—without sounding at all like something out of an Eno production. Produced and performed by Tetsu Inoue. Kenji Kawai, “Ghostdive” from Ghost in the Shell (Original Soundtrack) (1995 RCA). An ambient work from the popular movie soundtrack.Composed, Performed, Produced, Arranged, Keyboards, Instruments, Kenji Kawai; synthesizer, Hironori Houki. Engineer, Serge Modular Music System, Sonic Boom (Pete Kember). Some interesting modular synthesizer ambience. John Foxx and Harold Budd, “Raindust” from Translucence + Drift Music (2003 Edsel Records). Composed, produced, and performed by Harold Budd, John Foxx. John Foxx and Harold Budd, “Some Way Through All the Cities” from Translucence + Drift Music (2003 Edsel Records). Composed, produced, and performed by Harold Budd, John Foxx. Pete Namlook, Tetsu Inoue, “Ethereal Being” from 2350 Broadway 4 (2007 Fax +49-69/450464). Composed, produced, and performed by Pete Namlook, Tetsu Inoue. Recorded at Bretton Hall, New York and Klanglobor Hödeshof. Tetsu was an endless collaborator. Here he and the wondrous Pete Namlook wove some ambient magic. Tetsu Inoue, “Kaze” from Inland (2007 Fax +49-69/450464). Written, performed and produced by Tetsu Inoue. This was his post-glitch faze, which brought together, strangely enough, element so his earlier ambient work and glitch music for computers. Masuko Shinji, “Woven Music for Blue Steppe” from Woven Music (2011 Jagjaguwar). All music, vocals and guitar, (Shinji Masuko). This is a project by Masuko, who sometimes works with the Boredoms. It has a characteristic high but sustained energy level that flirts with the outer reaches of the ambient music concept. Caroline Park, “Grain 5” from Grain (2011 Private Chronology). This is a cassette release by Park, often known her for generative composition work and electronic improvisations based on parameters that she defines. Recorded, performed, and mixed between May 2010 and January 2011 in Los Angeles and Boston. Sarah Davachi, “First Cadence” from Antiphonals (2021 Late Music). Composed, Recorded, Performed, Mellotron (bass flute, recorder, oboe), Tape Echo, Sarah Davachi. A recent ambient work by this contemporary experimenter. In the background: An example of ambient music from the program Droneo by Henry Lowengard, which produces self-generating ambient music on a smart phone. “Droneo 1.5 vanDelay and Ape,” (5:25). Opening and closing sequences voiced by Anne Benkovitz. Additional opening, closing, and other incidental music by Thom Holmes. See my companion blog that I write for the Bob Moog Foundation. Aquí podréis escucharlos por partida doble, el mega hit “I Ran” y “The More You Live, The More You Love”. New Romantic barra New Wave. With Tears in My Eyes”. A unique assessment of American military involvement in Syria, written by three very different authors who between them participated in all large Kurdish operations between late 2014 and mid-2016, experiencing first-hand the impact America had on the battlefield. With America's War on Terror and the subsequent democracy experiments in Afghanistan and Iraq having turned into geopolitical disasters, the US military campaign in alliance with the Kurdish forces in Syria remains a rare success story. Considering the overwhelming military victory, the functioning Kurdish civilian governing structures that followed the fighting, the extremely light military footprint and the strong link to Kurdish partners, many political analysts, military experts and politicians in Washington, DC, judge the intervention against ISIS in Syria as the nation's most successful campaign since World War II. However, since neither these experts nor many journalists were on the ground during the fighting, they struggle to explain exactly how this particular operation turned into a just war. The authors, however, were there. Between the three of them, they fought for over two years with the Kurdish forces. They participated in all the large Kurdish operations against the Islamic State between late 2014 and mid-2016. They endured muddy archaic trench warfare, witnessed the first waves of decisive US and British airstrikes against ISIS, and experienced the impact America had on the battlefield. Later, when American, British and French Special Forces were deployed at the front lines, the authors worked closely with those teams when they evacuated hundreds of wounded from the battlefield together. Based on the authors' unique insights, this book analyses America's war in Syria and structures the intervention into different phases including the secretive build up and the ultimate destruction of the ISIS Caliphate. However, since neither these experts nor many journalists were on the ground during the fighting, they struggle to explain exactly how this particular operation turned into a just war.The authors, however, were there. Between the three of them, they fought for over two years with the Kurdish forces. They participated in all the large Kurdish operations against the Islamic State between late 2014 and mid-2016. They endured muddy archaic trench warfare, witnessed the first waves of decisive US and British airstrikes against ISIS, and experienced the impact America had on the battlefield.Later, when American, British and French Special Forces were deployed at the front lines, the authors worked closely with those teams when they evacuated hundreds of wounded from the battlefield together.Based on the authors' unique insights, this book analyses America's war in Syria and structures the intervention into different phases including the secretive build up and the ultimate destruction of the ISIS Caliphate.Today's Sponsor:Mad Rabbit Tattoohttps://www.MADRABBIT.com/teamThey've preserved over 1.5 MILLION tattoos and right now, they've got an exclusive offer just for The Team house Project listeners. Episode 171: Coming Around Again; the segment which focuses on songs that charted or were released more than once is back again! The song "Don't Tell Me Lies" by UK act Breathe got a remix and a second shot at success on the Hot 100, as did an early single from Adam and the Ants. John Foxx and Paul Young (or rather, their record labels) also re-released some singles...did any of them deserve a second chance?Just a Bit Outside: no second chances for these singles from Rush, Crystal Gayle, Kiss and Bonham. They have been relegated to the lower reaches of the Hot 100, but should they have charted higher?

With America's retreat from Afghanistan still fresh, it's popular for politicians and pundits to bemoan America's inability to fight and win a war. That line ignores an important bit of recent history we've memory-holed—the war against he Islamic State.America didn't fight that war alone, however. Far from it. An international coalition of trained soldiers and volunteer troops recognized a horrifying threat and came together to defeat it. As terrifying as the Islamic State is, the successful campaign against it simply isn't talked about much anymore.Today let's resurrect the memory. With me here to talk about the war is someone who fought in it: Till ‘Baaz' Paasche.Along with fellow soldiers John Foxx and Shaun Murray, 'Baz' is the author of America's War in Syria: Fighting With Kurdish Anti-ISIS Forces.Angry Planet has a substack! Robin Guthrie in conversation with David Eastaugh 40 years on from founding Cocteau Twins, Robin Guthrie has certainly been its most prolific member, offering a steady and stellar stream of material over the years. His film scores include Gregg Araki's ‘Mysterious Skin' and ‘White Bird in a Blizzard', co-written with longtime collaborator Harold Budd. His many other collaborators include John Foxx, Mark Gardener, Telefon Tel-Aviv, Eraldo Bernocchi and Jay Jay Johanson. Following the October release of his 'Mockingbird Love' EP and the November release of his full-length album 'Pearldiving' (his first album in nine years) comes another unique release by legendary Scottish music sculptor Robin Guthrie - the 4-track 'Riviera' EP, a collection completed earlier this year.. The 'Riviera' EP is available on limited-edition CD and as a digital download via Soleil Après Minuit with distribution in North America via Darla and in Europe by Cargo.
Scottish musician, prolific composer and audio engineer, Robin Guthrie is one of the founders of the legendary band, The Cocteau Twins. Throughout the band's history, Guthrie was the principal songwriter, guitarist, bassist, keyboardist and handling most of the programming and effects. In addition to his ongoing work as a producer and engineer, his musical career included his collaboration with Siobhan de Mare and co-founding the band Violet Indiana. He also released several collaborative albums with the acclaimed ambient composer and pianist, the late Harold Budd as well as John Foxx from Ultravox and Mark Gardener (Ride) along with numerous film scores such as Gregg Araki's “Mysterious Skin”2004 and “White Bird in a Blizzard” 2014 just to name a few. Following the released of his EP in October called Mockingbird Love, his first full length instrumental album, his first album in nine years since “Fortune” is called “Pearldiving “ which is available via Soleil Après Minuit. He released another EP called "Riviera" on December 3, 2021 which is available on CD, as well as digital on all major streaming and listening platforms. http://robinguthrie.comhttps://robinguthrie.bandcamp.comSubscribe to my monthly mailing list for the latest music news, updates and my next interviews and events:http://eepurl.com/gtw6PPQUEEN OF WANDS with DJ Nocturna RemixedEvery Saturday on MODSNAP Alternative RadioKMOD: San AntonioListen : http://modsnapradio.comPlaylist and podcast: https://djnocturna.com3pm to 5pm (HST/Hawaii Standard Time)5pm to 7pm (PST/Pacific Standard Time)6pm to 8pm (MST/ Mountain Standard Time)7pm to 9pm (CST/Central Standard Time)8pm to 10pm (EST/Eastern Standard Time
As the guitarist/multi-instrumentalist and songwriter for The Cocteau Twins, Robin Guthrie's unique sonic palette helped spearhead and popularize the dream pop sub-genre, with songs that emerged like hazy daydreams through his unique combination of melody and his focused use of effects on albums like 'Treasure', 'Blue Bell Knoll' and 'Heaven or Las Vegas.' During that time, Guthrie also did extensive production work for a variety of artists including The Wolfgang Press, The Gun Club, A.R. Kane, Lush, Ian McCulloch, Guy Chadwick and The Veldt. While the Cocteau Twins folded in 1997, Guthrie forged ahead, continuing to produce, and also collaborating with artists like the late Harold Budd (including their score for the 2004 film Mysterious Skin), John Foxx, Mark Gardener among others. In addition, Guthrie has also led a prolific and engaging career all his own, and speaking of, he's back after a 9 year absence with both an EP ('Mockingbird Love') and a full-length album ('Pearldiving') both of which showcase his inimitable, ethereal and emotive sound through evocative instrumentals. In today's interview, Guthrie discusses why he's been away for so long, why he decided to put out two releases so close together, his creative process and signature sound, his memories of working with Harold Budd, the legacy and influence of The Cocteau Twins, and much more. So take a listen, and be sure to stick around afterwards when I'll be playing 'Oceanaire' off the new album. Click here to listen on Apple Podcasts, and click here to listen on Spotify. Producer/Engineer/Mixer Gareth Jones didn't set out to be the "synth guy", but that didn't stop him from working closely with some of the greatest synth artists ever. First came John Foxx and his first solo album, the revolutionary Metamatic. Then came a string of legendary albums with Depeche Mode like Black Celebration and Some Great Reward. And lastly, he continues to work with Erasure and produced albums of theirs like Wild! and Cowboy. There have also been notable work with bands like Wire, Interpol, Embrace, and Grizzly Bear. Gareth also has some recent solo projects that deserve your attention like Electrogenetic. We get stories about all of it and learn how Gareth was the man to help these people find their creative voices. What if the original Blade Runner film had a pop music soundtrack? You know how some films have an instrumental score but also an album of pop/rock tunes that were used in the film or inspired by the film. If Blade Runner had such a collection maybe it would sound like this mix. This all started when I was listening to Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond part 1 and I thought that it sounded like it would sort of fit with the Blade Runner score we are all so familiar with. That got me thinking about the question posed at the top of this post. As I started collecting tracks the first place I went was Gary Numan & Tubeway Army - Replicas. How could I not use a song called "Replicas"? Likewise from the same album, how could resist the track "Are Friends Electric?" I got some great recommendations from Mixcloud listeners in this thread - https://www.mixcloud.com/lowlight/posts/pop-tunes-for-blade-runner/ Tracks from Public Image Ltd., John Foxx, Quieter Than Spiders and New Order came right from those suggestions. There were also some great ideas in that thread which will work perfectly in a Blade Runner alternative score mix. I'm hyped to do that mix but I should probably wait a bit after this BR mix. This was a lot of fun to put together. I hope you enjoy it. Cheers! John Foxx aka Dennis Leigh is the quietly powerful and enigmatic maker of futurist electro pop and composer of elegant soundscapes. Martyn met him and became friends whilst recording in his studio The Garden 40 years ago, and his work has remained massively influential since then, featuring an ever changing series of reinventions. His commitment to innovation and education is a powerful one. And he's a fellow Northerner! Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to be fascinated...

This is our second retrospective of the music of Southern California ambient/minimalist composer HAROLD BUDD. Part 1 covered 1978 to 2006, when he announced his "retirement" at age 70. He wasn't serious. After a brief rest, he was more active than ever. Between then and his death at the end of 2020, he added 16 additional collaborations, soundtracks, and solo albums to his already large catalog. Early in his career, Budd rejected the ugly, dissonant sounds of the 20th century avant-garde, embraced traditional consonant tonality, and made it new: “In my music the focus has shifted to consonance as a thing in itself," he told The New York Times in 1987. "I hear an absolute whole life in consonant chords.” His classic "soft pedal" piano style, described as "yearning piano motifs and reverb-laden impressionism," developed and matured during his work with BRIAN ENO. After making his reputation in England, Budd returned to Los Angeles and started a second family in his 60's. While the early years had been about establishing his approach to meditative, atmospheric music, now he worked with sympatico English ambient guitarists who instinctively understood the aesthetics of his "poetic dreamworlds" and "esoteric reveries." Budd relaxed into his comfort zone, while expanding into film and TV scoring and chamber music. His career had a certain inverse symmetry: after abandoning academic classical music in the beginning, at the end he was writing for string quartets. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, our second HAROLD BUDD retrospective called TRANSLUCENT DRIFTS, featuring late solo works and collaborations with ROBIN GUTHRIE, CLIVE WRIGHT, and JOHN FOXX.

Born in Russia, in 1911, at four, she was accepted as the youngest ever violin student at the St. Petersburg Imperial Conservatory. As conditions deteriorated after the Revolution, the Reisenberg family left Russia and travelled across Europe for several years until 1921 when they succeeded in gaining passage on a steamship bound for America. In New York, Clara resumed her studies with Leopold Auer, but shortly before she was to make her American debut (playing the Beethoven Concerto), she developed an arthritic problem with her bow arm, and had to give up the violin.Fortunately, she had met Leon Theremin (an Americanisation of Lev Termen, as he was known in Russia), the inventor of the world's first electronic instrument. “I was fascinated by the aesthetic part of it, the visual beauty, the idea of playing in the air,” Clara recalled, “and I loved the sound. I tried it, and apparently showed some kind of immediate ability to manipulate it. Soon Lev Sergeyevich gave me, for a present, the RCA model theremin.”She convinced Leon Theremin to build her a far more precise and responsive instrument than the RCA model, one with a five-octave range, instead of three. Over the years she performed extensively but it was not until 1977 that she saw the release of her first commercial LP, performances with Nadia Reisenberg (recorded by Robert Moog) titled ‘The Art Of The Theremin'.In 1989, Steve M. Martin, long fascinated by the instrument, embarked upon the documentary Theremin - An Electronic Odyssey, a film including some of Clara's last public performances (videotaped at a 1989 Nadia Reisenberg tribute concert in Merkin Hall), and the New York reunion of Clara and Leon Theremin (then aged 95). Premiered in New York at Alice Tully Hall, the film in large measure revitalised interest in both the theremin itself and Clara Rockmore's unique accomplishments. She died in 1998.Cyril Lance BiogCyril Lance is the Chief Technical Officer at Moog Music and lead designer of the Moog Claravox Centennial Theremin. Cyril first met Bob Moog in January 2005 during an informal visit to Moog factory. When Bob was diagnosed with cancer in April of 2005, Cyril was asked to come up and take over the engineering effort. Since then, Cyril has been at the helm of engineering and product development and, along with the dedicated and passionate team at Moog Music, has helped to continue Moog's legacy of designing and producing beautifully crafted electronic instruments aimed at inspiring artists world-wide to explore and expand their personal sonic vocabularies. Cyril strives daily to continue Bob Moog's legacy and to have a lot of fun along the way. “It's truly a blessing to have the opportunity to contribute in one small-way to the transformative powers of music to bring joy and connect people on the deepest levels through-out the world”.https://www.moogmusic.com/Dorit Chrysler BiogDorit Chrysler has been dubbed a superior wizard of the theremin. After years of experimentation, and unsuccessful attempts at becoming a famous jazz-rock guitarist, he decided to concentrate on writing pop songs. In 1979 he co-wrote “Video Killed the Radio Star”. After a stint fronting cult New Wave unit The Camera Club, Woolley moved back into songwriting and production, forming a creative partnership with Grace Jones. In 1994, Woolley discovered Exotica and formed The Radio Science Orchestra, a theremin-led group that defined retrofuturism before people were talking about retrofuturism. A sonic time machine travelling along the whole history of electronic music, the Orchestra has collaborated with the world's leading theremin virtuosi including Lydia Kavina, Carolina Eyck and Charlie Draper. Notable guest artists include Grace Jones, Polly Scattergood, Ken Hollings, Dr. Robert Moog, Steve Dub and Thomas Dolby.http://www.brucewoolleyhq.com/https://www.radioscienceorchestra.com/Katia Isakoff BiogKatia Isakoff is a composer and multi-instrumentalist music producer whose compositions, performances and productions first appeared in the Add N To (X) album Loud Like Nature (Mute Records). Having contributed synths and co-mixed EOTT, she went on to join them for a live concert performance at Electri_City Conference Dusseldorf, adding Moog Theremini and synths to the sonic architecture of this ever evolving and expansive Karborn graphic novel, which premiered with a live performance at the British Film Institute UK and Sonic Acts Festival, Amsterdam. She has since spent much of her time between London and Berlin working on her forthcoming album She's Not Here.In 2019, Katia launched !N_K o L // B a new and innovative composer producer series bringing together pioneering, established and emerging composer producers to collaborate in various iconic studios and pop-up locations. Each series sees a new guest pioneer and group joining her; together, they embark on the journey of making an album through improvisation and exploration of the studio as an instrument, building a global network through musical collaborations – one album and city at a time. The first IN_KoLAB series was hosted by British Grove Studios. The group spent two days recording and filming what would become an immersive four-movement quadrophonic piece called IN_KoLAB Making Waves with Suzanne Ciani. The album and accompanying short will be released in 2021 and plans are in motion for the next series.https://www.katiaisakoff.com/ | https://inkolab.orgCaro C BiogCaro C is an artist, engineer and teacher specialising in electronic music. Corsica One is turning 2 years old!I want to express my gratitude to all listeners as well as old and new friends including the very talented magrosi65, Lauge and Calm Pills who delighted us with their special mixes. Shout out to Radio Raptz who has been hosting my Kimchi shows. Here's to you a special 2-hour mix featuring highlights from the last 12 months.Comparing this year's mixes to the previous ones, I realized that the sound of Corsica One has been evolving. A lot of the exotic, "world" vibes have gone, leaving room to a more urban landscape. I guess that the pandemic and the impossibility to travel gave me no other choice but to look for inspiration in the streets of my city.
In this forth episode of Synchronized! we have Ed Ashcroft and Paul Vials from Ultraphonic as our guests. Besides this great production music label they also own District 6 Music Publishing which represents songs in a wide range of genres and include artists like Roy Harper, Donae'o, Feder, Geezer Butler (founding member of Black Sabbath), Murcof, Dwele, Feder, John Foxx, Gael Rakotondrabe, Mind Against, Traumer, Agents Of Time, Con Brio, Cotonete, Jen Jis, Mathame, Hi Levelz - to name a few. We talk about the difference in dealing with production music and commercial music, the future of sub-publishers, whether you should start your own production music label and the recent request from MCPS to obtain mandates for India and China. We loved hanging out with them and we're sure you're gonna get some great perspectives on the state of the production music industry. Take care, Simon Webb and Ferry van Beek
