#191. We are back! Kendall lost his voice for a while there and Dillon took a family vacation. Kendall's voice has returned so he can drop some Australian knowledge on his friends. Dillon is home and brought a riveting, fast-paced traveling story to share. A server at restaurant made the wrong move when they didn't write down the order, but that would prove to be a mild inconvenience in comparison to the vision of running through an airport as if he's Indiana Jones with a boulder on his heels. The wife and kids are fine. He's still recovering. After the break we talk about the Super Bowl and it's peripherals such as Chris Stapleton's performance of the national anthem, Rihanna, and commercials. We then move on to streaming including Nate Bargatze's Hello World, The Pez Outlaw, Hardy's the mocking bird and THE CROW, and Downton Abbey. Back in the legends lounge again today with Budgie. Peter Clarke, better known as Budgie is a wonderful English Drummer best known for his drumming with Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Creatures. Join Budgie and myself as we talk about his early days with a busy cabaret band gigging around the North West of England onto his remarkable career as a drummer with a brilliantly unique style, snubbing more traditional 4 on the floor grooves for brilliantly busy & syncopated driving rhythms around the drums! We talk about his early days in Merseyside playing with The Spitfires, then onto Big In Japan alongside Jayne Casey, Ian Broudie and Holly Johnson and how they actually ended up supporting Budgies soon to be new band Siouxsie & The Banshees. Budgie talks about the recording of the Seminal Slits Album - Cut, and where the vast amount of influences came from, Especially the heavily reggae influences. We of course talk about Siouxsie & The Banshees and how the gig came about, alongside the banshees came The Creatures, featuring Siouxsie on vocals and Budgie given an incredible and (almost) free roll on Drums and Percussion, including Marimba and Vibraphone! This was such a fun hour, one i enjoyed hugely! Budgie as well as being a terrific drummer is also a wonderful human who really likes to talk about his career, this is a joy as a podcaster! Budgie, thank you so much for giving up your valuable time to speak to me from a snowy & cold Berlin! Huge thanks must go to former guest on the show and Budgie's friend Steve Grantley for putting us both in touch! Please subscribe and leave a review if you are enjoying these conversations.

In Provo Utah this week, we hang out with Joe & Jena Vickrey from the indie rock band, English Budgies. Both originally from Medford Oregon, they boast a killer rock n roll repertoire and a niche of quirky, fun stage presence in the Utah music scene. If you like Edward Sharpe, The Smiths, Goldfinger, or Violent Femmes, you will enjoy Joe & Jena's endless knowledge and skill at bringing classic punk foundations and fresh indie nuances together. A thread that pulls you through the years @rockhall-13 million people in 27 years!Cleveland, Bowies' first us gig here, Jimi Hendrix, came back. Alan Freed coined the phrase rock and Roll.I.M. Pei designed the museum building after he had seen The Who and Stones. Created a very energetic and emotional structure. The home of America's great art. Lol agrees that the design is suitable. The most relevant museum to people's lives The museum of the people. Lol sees his Let's Go To Bed outfit! In a case! The HOF was very emotional and blew Lols mind only 351 Bands in the HOF. Budgie knows the magic language of RnR. The hardest part is, it's such a big story from Punk, Patti Smith and Television. Lol and Budgie pledge to raise money for the new Post Punk annex "maybe it will be named after them, "Lols and Budgie Collection of Curious Creatures "( ?!) Lols brother still listens to John Lee Hooker. Budgie and Lol learned Blues on Sunday lunchtime at the pubs of England. The constant back and forth of the form is The engine. Budgie has the tip of Ringo's drumstick. Played an old banjo, and it became Budgies Excalibur sword!Greg ran the Philadelphia record exchange. It's still going. The center of the place for our tribe. Even on the internet, record stores are a valuable items. Their connection with live music is vital still. Rock and Roll will never die! Fans know a lot, and they are reservoirs of memory . Post-punk is still loved. Budgies confesses he liked Glen Miller's "in the mood." Budgies knows there's no crying in baseball (only in music). Music condenses time. Get on stage, and you are ageless. Budgie and Lol are still here and thriving. Lols confesses his zombie love. It's all humbling and flattering at the same time. Budgie finds out Howling Wolf's guitar is in the HOF. Budgie recounts the sad story of Joe Strummer's guitar and sings the drums of Tommy Gunn! The jukebox in his head. We are chuffed to see the Bunnyman! Will just got off tour; it was 11 out of 10- weird!People still like our band's music all these years later. Ancient history. It's just weird? Bugger all else to do so we plundered a lot of different music. Whats a wooly back? A sheep in wolf's clothing. Paul Rutherford in radical Pajamas. Band names had to be short to write on yer gasbag. Until Punk, music life was unobtainable, Punk said you don't need any of that. Will's book is a social history. It's Brilliant: Kirby = Crawley. Will explains the "Cure "photo in his book. Darvin Gebhart is a champion goose-caller. But there are also birds that use human language. Sparkie Williams was a famous parakeet, or budgerigar, that lived in England in the 1950s. He recorded commercials for bird seed and released his own hit single "Pretty Talk." Alex, the African Grey Parrot, was another notable talking bird, with amazing cognitive abilities. Watch a video interview with Sparkie Williams and learn more about him at the British-Library.UK. Learn more at BirdNote.org.
I used to not be an animal person, but since I got my Parakeets (Budgies, Birdies) last Fall I've found myself falling in love with these little happy fluffballs. My Budgies came to me sick and underdeveloped, and out time together has been a journey of mutual healing and trust-building. While some people think Schizophrenics shouldn't have pets, this isn't true; my Budgies help me manage Negative Symptoms like Avolition and Anhedonia, in addition to helping with my loneliness and withdrawal. We are not dangerous to our pets and having pets can be very helpful to our wellbeing.

Cockatoos are indelibly linked to the Australian outback, often through popular image culture, and this popular photography subject has indeed proven in recent times that cockatoos reside not only in the bush, but are also moving into many of Australia's bigger cities and towns (check out Cockatoo Wingtag - Big City Birds). As these big white cockatoos become part of Australia's urban landscape, the average Aussie is misled into thinking that all theses big white cockatoos are all the same and belong to all the same family. The big white cockatoos with the yellow crest is known as the sulphur crest; scientific name Cacatua galerita galerita; and this is known as the nominate race. The C.g.galerita lives over much of Australia. But like so many Australian parrots, what you think you see, is not always what you think you are seeing.. in the case of the sulphur crest cockatoo, there is in fact 3 types!Today BirdCast is chatting with Stephan Maric, who is a birdkeeper and bird lover living in Melbourne, Victoria and is one person who knows a lot about the C.galerita.galerita and C.g.fitzroyi - aka Fitzroy (or Matthews) sulphut crested cockatoo. Stephan shares a wealth of knowledge about caring for the Australian cockatoos in your life and is a living advert for the value of bird clubs - if you know the Health Department adverts of Act, Belong, Commit - you will understand Stephan's passion for the bird club he belong to - The Avicultural Society of Australia. The photographs Stephan mentions in the podcast will be shared on our instagram page and on the #100parrots Project page - be sure to check them out!the #100parrots project:https://www.facebook.com/groups/455490802208727Birdman Dad insta page:https://www.instagram.com/birdman_dad/?show_story_unavailable=1Cockatoo wingtag Facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/CockatooWingtagsAvicultural Society of Australia webpage:https://asaust.com/the bird worming solution Stephan talks about:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moxidectin
How do budgies have it off? Is it OK to fancy your father in-law? And what one thing should you always do when pooing at someone else's house? Answering all these questions is the hilarious comedian Jarred Christmas! Yes, that is his real name, and if you think that's funny wait till you hear what the rest of his family is called. He tells us about growing up on a military base, being buddies with Hugh Jackman, and embarrassing himself in front of Tom Cruise. We discuss why Jarred is disappointed in his kids for not swearing, and his hatred of golf. Plus: are cats c***s? NB: Sorry about the budgie noises, especially at the beginning - they do settle down a bit, honest. Egg binding is a problem that can be encountered with any female bird - from chickens, to budgies, to aviary finches. There are several suggested methods on how to treat this issue and of course prevention is always better than any cure. Birdman Dad offers up his suggestions on what to look for if you suspect one of your birds may be egg bound, and some suggestions on what you can do to help the bird.Prevention of course is always the best and Birdman Dad also discusses what you can do to limit this from happening in the first place. The item mentioned "quick gel" is a Dr Rob Marshall (avian vet) product.https://www.birdhealth.com.au/quik-gelHope this episode helps you and your birds should you have a case of egg binding.
There has been an increase in pet budgies being surrendered this summer. We talk to a vet who works with exotic birds about why budgies are being turned in and what prospective bird owners should understand about budgies before adding them to a family.

Well, the pandemic has taken hold and for TGC that only means one thing: overlaying inappropriate and ill-advised cricketing analogies to describe the deepest health and economic crisis in living memory. Gee COVID-19’s hooping ‘em.Because of the times, this week we’ve gone for a ‘we not me’ approach. To offset our intellectually limited analysis with something more responsible, we speak with Cricket Australia’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr John Orchard, about the game’s response, what we can do, and virtual circuits. He’s followed by Sports Feature Writer at Indy Sport in the UK, Vithushan Ehantharajah, before Sutherland, Yorkshire and England stalwart Tim Bresnan joins to talk Sachin, pro sportsmen, Leeds, and his new podcast, Taking the Covers Off (or something).AskTGC tosses up a litany of verbiage about liking Australians, anxiety-free premierships, a strong riposte to a previous AskTGC, and whether or not wearing Budgies makes one more alpha. Finally, a request: we are working on something very exciting which we’re hoping to announce to you guys soon. But we want to get the ball rolling on it now.We are calling on anyone who’s played club cricket this year to make written submissions for:- Best batting innings they saw this year – doesn’t have to be highest runs scored, can be for any reason- Best bowling they saw this year- Most frightening cricket dream they’ve had or heard of- Leading Alpha- Best Club Volunteer- Best Rig- Best Rare Unit- Best Circuit story (that is not defamatory, unsavoury or libellous)There are 8 categories – submissions are open now – please send them either to gradecricketer@gmail.com, or our Facebook DMs.There will be more info on this in this coming week. Please ply us with those stories from clubland – anywhere around the world – and we will do the rest.To finish: The Grade Cricketer will be here through isolation. We will keep casting. We have a few ideas in the works through this period, especially because there’s a good chance our English audience may not see much cricket, if any, through the summer. Stay tuned. ***Big thanks to Budgy Smuggler for their unyielding support.***We have merch, namely Stubby Holders, and Smugglers. Birds and tortoises; two creatures which give me the creeps. How did such harmless animals becomes symbols of terror for me? It all comes down to childhood trauma. Well, 'trauma' is over-stating it. But the incidents scared the crap out of me. Oh, and guinea pigs; I have a thing about them, too.

Reptile Encounters is a mobile zoo. A zoo that comes to you, whether to a classroom or boardroom, for schools or corporate events. It's not a new concept. But Josh, the founder, is bringing fresh eyes and a perspective with a sustainability focus to the field. An animal lover, Josh is passionate about his flock, and for teaching kids about them. Mark talks to Josh about fostering connections to nature in young people, how vital a care for animals and nature is for development, and how pivotal a time this is for spreading a love and care for nature. The unfolding sixth mass extinction, the first climate change-linked extinction, the Murray-Darling fish kills are all discussed. But so are happier topics, like Josh's history of exotic pets, and how great a feeling it is to expose kids to a new love of animals. A great episode to share with the animal lover in your life. *Recurring Martian Streaks could be just sand rather than water A new study claims dark streaks often seen on the Sun facing slopes of Martian gullies and ravines could be caused by moving sand rather than melting sub-surface permafrost. The conclusions provide an alternative to previous speculation that the features – known as recurring slope lineae or RSLs – were caused by flowing meltwater from permafrost layers seeping out from the sides of gullies and ravines. *Could cosmic dust be transporting life between worlds? A new study suggests that life on Earth might have originated from biological particles brought to the planet in streams of cosmic dust particles. The findings would mean fast-moving flows of interplanetary dust that continually bombard Earth’s atmosphere could deliver tiny organisms from far-off worlds, or send Earth-based organisms to other planets, according to the research. *Listening for alien signals. Way back on August the 15th 1977 astronomers at Ohio State University’s Big Ear radio telescope supporting the SETI Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence picked up a strange and very strong narrow band radio signal coming from the direction of the constellation Sagittarius. Now a new campaign is underway to listen for alien signals – not from Sagittarius but from M-31 Andromeda. *NASA Launches NOAA Weather Satellite to Improve Forecasts The penultimate launch of a Delta II rocket has successfully placed the first of a new generation of advanced weather satellites into a Sun synchronous orbit. The Joint Polar Satellite System-1 or JPSS-1 blasted into deep black early morning skies from the Vandenberg Air Force base in California. *Maxus-9 provides a little microgravity The European Space Agency has launched a Maxus sounding rocket to see how microgravity effects microorganisms.
