On this week's episode, Nathan and Gita are joined by Maddy Myers and Zoë Hannah, both formerly of Polygon – you know, before all the bad stuff happened – and now of the newly announced Mothership, a site at the intersection of gender and games. Maddy and Zoë tell us about their plans for the site and what it means to launch a publication like this in an era when feminist media has been gutted, and even venerable institutions like Teen Vogue – a primary inspiration for Mothership – have fallen. Then we talk about how much money $8 is (actually $10, but also possibly $5). We also imagine what might happen if Asmongold, fresh off being retweeted by JD Vance, travels to The White House and gives Donald Trump some kind of plague. Polygon buys Sequence, Animoca buys SOMO, Cartridge buys Playmint. Consolidation?[0:28] Today's theme is consolidation.[1:15] Is this the trend for blockchain games companies in 2026 or something more nuanced?[2:00] Why didn't we see more consolidation in 2025?[3:46] Playmint has been bought by Cartridge. This is likely more of an R&D rollup or acquihire deal.[5:53] Playmint worked on fully decentralized games and Cartridge has an onchain game engine.[7:05] Both companies also have a shared investor Bitkraft to enable the deal. [8:40] Sequence has been acquired by Polygon Labs. It's more of a classic consolidation deal. [10:50] Polygon is repositioning itself as a payments and stablecoin infrastructure. [12:13] Sequence's focus has always been cross-chain dev tools for blockchain games.[14:59] Investors like tools. Sequence raised around $50 million.[18:50] Polygon is buying Sequence because it's a proper business with real tech and users.[22:20] Will Sequence focus less on games in future? [23:06] Animoca Brands has acquired web3 gameco SOMO. It's unclear why.[29:31] Delabs Games is shutting down idle RPG Ragnarok Libre. [35:15] Delabs Games is now an AI-first game developer so it's looking to the future.

David Freyne's new Eternity shoves a thematically rich afterlife scenario into a romcom-shaped container, resulting in an above-average example of the genre that nonetheless feels like it's only scratching the surface of its narrative potential. That leaves us with a lot of logistical questions to mull in our discussion of the film — several of which Tasha addressed in her pair of conversations with Freyne over at Polygon — and also a lot of points of contrast when we bring Hirokazu Kore-eda's After Life back in for Connections. After Life and Eternity look and feel very different as they navigate the ins and outs of their respective postmortem bureaucracies, but both are ultimately concerned with characters being forced to make a single choice that will define their afterlives, what that choice says about what truly matters, and what the things we most value say about us. Those ideas pop up again in Your Next Picture Show, where Tasha offers an enthusiastic recommendation for the 2020 Edson Oda film Nine Days as an unofficial companion piece to After Life. Please share your thoughts about After Life, Eternity, or anything else in the world of film, by sending an email or voice memo to comments@nextpictureshow.net, or leaving a short voicemail at (773) 234-9730. In this episode of FYI – For Your Innovation, ARK's Brett and Lorenzo are joined by Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon, to explore the evolving landscape of Ethereum scaling, the role of Layer 2s, and Polygon's growing importance in Web3 infrastructure. Sandeep unpacks how Polygon transitioned from a sidechain into a comprehensive execution layer, supporting both shared and dedicated compute environments. The discussion spans Polygon's technology roadmap (including the transition to Polygon 2.0), the distinction between sidechains and L2s, and how Polygon's AggLayer is designed to unify fragmented liquidity across custom blockchains. They also address the competitive dynamics between public blockchains and “corpo chains” like those initiated by Stripe, Circle, and Coinbase—raising questions about credible neutrality, token economics, and long-term adoption paths. Sandeep outlines Polygon's strategy of prioritizing scale before revenue, aiming to build lasting infrastructure in the face of fast-moving innovation.Key Points From This Episode:[00:00] – Intro: What are Layer 1s, Layer 2s, and sidechains?[08:00] – Why apps are moving to dedicated L2s[20:03] – What is Polygon, and why is “L2” a misnomer?[28:03] – Pitching Polygon to institutions and developers[29:01] – Competitive landscape: too many chains, not enough clarity[34:14] – Are L2s valuable businesses?[35:30] – Why usage, not fees, is Polygon's current priority[40:46] – Corpo chains and how they leverage open infrastructure[48:41] – What success looks like for Polygon in 5 years[49:54] – Key metrics: TVL, throughput, and transaction growth[50:57] – Outro and closing reflections from Brett

Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels. We've got the full crew in the house once again this week, and we're chock full of video gaming goodies, so let's get things rolling... Randall gets things started off with his first impressions on the recently released NIGHT STRIKER GEAR, a sequel to a semi-forgotten arcade shoot 'em up from Taito in 1989. Kevin keeps us in arcade shooter territory after that, as he finally gives Capcom's 194X series a fair shake after recently scooping up their Arcade Stadium collections on the cheap! Finally, John closes us out with a handful of first-person shooters that he's been exploring lately, as he & our buddy Mikee continue to work on research & development for an FPS of their own. Welcome to The Chopping Block — where crypto insiders Haseeb Qureshi, Tom Schmidt, Tarun Chitra, and Robert Leshner chop it up about the latest in crypto. This week, the crew breaks down DeFi's Black Friday: a brutal week that saw the $120 million Balancer v2 hack, the collapse of Stream Finance, and a market-wide panic that reminded everyone — nothing in crypto is risk-free. They dive into how one of DeFi's oldest, most audited contracts failed, why smaller chains froze or rolled back transactions, and what it means for decentralization as Berachain, Sonic, and Polygon took emergency action. The panel debates whether the Balancer attacker used an AI “vibe-coded” exploit, how Ethereum might one day face its own rollback dilemma, and why privacy chains like Zcash may be the last true cypherpunk strongholds. In the second half, they unpack the off-chain losses behind Stream Finance's XUSD blow-up, the contagion risk across Euler, Silo, and Morpho, and the hard lessons for “yield-chasing” DeFi vaults. The gang closes with advice for founders weathering the storm — from Tarun's “cockroach mindset” to Haseeb's reminder that crypto's long-term fundamentals haven't changed. Whether you're building in DeFi, securing smart contracts, or surviving the next credit unwind, this episode lays bare the harsh truths — and enduring resilience — of crypto's frontier markets.
