In this episode of the Practical Wealth Show, Curtis May discusses the importance of having maximum protection and playing defense in one's financial planning. He shares his recent health scare story to stress the importance of being prepared for unexpected events. Curtis highlights the importance of having disability insurance and estate planning in place. Disability insurance can restore cash flow in the event of a disability, reduce financial stress, ensure income continues coming in to maintain one's lifestyle, and potentially fund savings. Curtis advises listeners to consider the total amount they can get, the start date, the length of time the policy lasts, and the definition of disability in their insurance policies. Estate planning is another critical aspect of financial planning, helping to avoid substantial losses upon death. Curtis discusses the examples of famous estates that suffered significant losses due to poor planning. He emphasizes the importance of having the appropriate estate planning documents and beneficiary designations in place to ensure loved ones receive what is desired. This episode is a short discussion about wealth capture. Your number one asset is you. And so, what do you invest in your mindset, your skill set, and your network who you know, and most importantly, who knows you? And so, our goal, as we call it in our system, is a cashflownaire and get to the glorious position of FU, which is passive income greater than expenses. So, you have to know, if you want to become financially-free, you should feel that financial freedom is a capability. Curtis wants you to save 15 to 20% of your income. "If you have not acquired more than a bare existence in the years since we were youths, it is because you either have failed to learn the laws that govern the building of wealth, or else you do not observe them." After spending 12 years as a traditional financial adviser, Curtis May realized the standard model of the 401K didn't actually work very well for most people. He dug deeper and found that the only ones truly benefitting from traditional financial products were the institutions selling them. Curtis decided it was time to turn all of the conventional financial planning advise on its head, learning to look at debt as a tool rather than something to get rid of as quickly as possible. Curtis is President of Practical Wealth Solutions and Podcast Host of The Practical Wealth Show. Now Nick speaks to groups that benefit from his message of overcoming adversity. Nick grew up in the real estate industry and got started at an early age.
