Summer is in its swan song, with fall making its way into our consciousness as so is the latest podcast, detailing ALL that's happening in the world of sports. On deck: (6:50) The podcast is on the cusp of a milestone. The 500th episode is forthcoming next Monday as the countdown has begun towards that achievement. (7:14) After briefly touching on the Mets chase to secure the final Wild Card spot in the National League, the NFL is in pole position as Week 2 comes to a close. I'll highlight the shocking outcomes of yesterday's games (i.e. losses by Detroit, Dallas & San Francisco), which leads to who's the surprising 2-0 teams (Tampa Bay, New Orleans, Minnesota, to name a few) On the flip side, who have shocked the early part of the schedule with an 0-2 start (Baltimore, Cincinnati, Jacksonville & LA Rams). I'll recap all that took place throughout the sport and peek into tonight's matchup between Atlanta vs. Philadelphia. (44:26) Georgia got out of Dodge with a scratching, clawing, fighting to the bitter 13-12 win at Kentucky. Was this a good thing? Or one to be concerned about? Texas unveiled highly touted prospect, Arch Manning. (If you don't know, you'll have to tune in) with QB Quinn Ewers leaving with an oblique injury. He only put up five total TD's in a cakewalk of a win vs. UTSA. You had LSU depart Columbia with a last minute win at South Carolina. Besides that, there were slim pickings on the collegiate level. (52:52) MLB is down to the final couple of the weeks of the season. After a rough back two games in Philadelphia for the Mets, can they make it to Atlanta next Tuesday even in the NL wild card chase. I'll keep you up to date on what's happening in the AL wild card as well. Also, are the Yankees a shoo in to clinch the AL East? What about the health of Dodgers pitcher, Tyler Glasnow as he may be done for the year with a nagging elbow injury? (1:10:08) Training camp opens up in the NHL on Thursday. I have a couple of newsworthy items (A key defenseman out for New Jersey. Seattle extends defenseman Adam Larsson. And the untimely death of former tough guy, Stephen Peat. (1:12:58) Canelo Alvarez retains his super middleweight title by easily beating Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas Saturday night. As for UFC, Merab Dvalishvili handily beats Sean O'Malley in a decisive victory for the bantamweight title. It's alllll college football this week as Ninja and Steve bring in Odds Shark's college football expert Josie Costigan to talk about some of the biggest stories in the sport. After an dominant and convincing performance at Michigan last weekend, Texas and Quinn Ewers are the talk of the nation: the Horns for natty champ and their QB for Heisman. Books responded by moving up to the top of the list, but is there value elsewhere? Coach Prime and Colorado have had a rocky start to the season and it doesn't get any easier with the Rocky Mountain Showdown upcoming. Are they poised to bounceback or is it going to be another step back for Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter and Deion? Another team that took a major L last week was Notre Dame. They square off with an old foe in Purdue in Week 3 and Josie shares her thoughts on what to expect out of the Irish. All that and more on today's episode of The Huddle.

Texas Longhorn QB Quinn Ewers (coming off of a massive win against Nick Saban and the Alabama Football team) was once sitting in Coach Ryan Day's meeting room for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Locked On Big 12 - Daily College Football & Basketball Podcast
The Longhorns won't outmuscle Bama on the lines, nor will they adopt a smash-mouth approach for substantial yardage gains. Instead, QB Quinn Ewers and the potent passing game that shone early last year will launch a relentless offensive assault right from the beginning, targeting an already injury-ridden secondary. Ewers completed 9 of 12 passes in last year's 20-19 loss before being sidelined. Xavier Worthy's five receptions for 97 yards set the tone, leaving Alabama scrambling to defend. Alabama still needs to demonstrate that its defense can consistently contain a high-octane offense. The 56-7 victory over Middle Tennessee didn't truly test them, and Ewers now has an array of weapons at his disposal. While Ohio State may boast some of the nation's top receiving targets, the Longhorns aren't just relying on Worthy. With playmakers like Isaiah Neyor, TE Ja'Tavion Sanders, and Adonai Mitchell, this receiving corps could prove to be the toughest challenge Bama faces all season. Texas football is back on the grind this offseason after the Longhorns kicked off the start of winter conditioning last week and added several new faces to the roster with 14 early enrollees joining Texas this spring. On this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes give the latest news coming out of winter workouts, including some early nuggets on how transfer QB Quinn Ewers is gelling with his new team. The Flagship delivers some injury news on a group of Texas players, including WR Troy Omeire and QB Maalik Murphy, and also discuss how big of an addition it is for Texas to add Wyoming transfer WR Isaiah Neyor as a mid-year enrollee. Chip and Taylor weigh in on how Neyor's arrival adds instant, proven depth to the wide receiver room, and credit new receivers coach Brennan Marion for staying on Neyor and getting him to flip from Tennessee to Texas. The Flagship also recaps all that former Westlake coach and Texas QB Todd Dodge had to say about Ewers and the quarterback battle at Texas, and why the legendary TXHSFB coach thinks Ewers needing time to adjust to the college game may be in the best interest for the future of Texas football. The Flagship then takes a look at Texas basketball with two major games on the horizon starting this weekend when Texas hosts Rick Barnes and Tennessee Saturday before the Longhorns hit the road for Lubbock, Texas to battle a Texas Tech team that may not have the warmest of welcomes for Chris Beard and the Longhorns. After a quick break, The Flagship returns with our fan favorite 'Love it or Leave it' segment, with this week's topics focused on how the addition of Neyor to the receiver room compares to last season's addition of Xavier Worthy, what to make of transfer portal targets on defense, including former TCU edge rusher Ochaun Mathis and take a look at some of the former Longhorns who are still in the hunt for a Super Bowl bid. All eyes of Texas are on Ohio State transfer QB Quinn Ewers as he continues to weigh his options after entering the transfer portal last week. Texas has positioned itself in a prime spot with the highly touted quarterback transfer but still has competition from a few in-state programs that are also in the mix with Ewers. On the mid-week episode of The Flagship podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes weigh in on the on-going saga surrounding Ewers' future plans as Texas continues to make a push to land the highly sought after signal-caller. The Flagship addresses how Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) earning potential could help the Longhorns in their recruiting pitch with Ewers. Sticking with NIL talk, The Flagship also covers one of the latest position group NIL initiatives for Texas, 'Pancake Factory' as part of Horns with Heart non-profit organization, which will pay UT scholarship offensive linemen $50,000 annually to participate in charitable endeavors in the community and beyond. Chip and Taylor discuss how this new o-line NIL initiative couldn't have been launched at a better time as Steve Sarkisian and his staff continue to work the recruiting trail in hopes of landing some key offensive line targets leading up to next week's early signing day — including five-star OT Kelvin Banks, who's back on the market since he decommitted from Oregon after Mario Cristobal took over as head coach of the Miami Hurricanes. The Flagship also takes a look at some of the latest roster moves for Texas, with a trio of players on defense announcing their return for the 2022 season and other Longhorns entering the transfer portal. As always, The Flagship then delivers our listener-favorite 'Love it or leave it' segment, with this week's topics focused on the Longhorns' most significant transfer portal needs, if Ewers or 2023 QB prospect Arch Manning is a better QB addition for Texas and much more! In this week's interview edition of The Flagship Podcast, with so much going on involving Texas Longhorns' recruiting heading into the Dec. 15 signing period, we talk to our own Mike Roach for an update on where things stand coming out of a busy weekend, including the latest on former Texas quarterback commitment Quinn Ewers, who is in the transfer portal after signing with Ohio State. We talk about where Texas stands with Ewers and why Texas Tech could end up being a significant player in Ewers' re-recruitment and what role former Red Raiders' quarterback Patrick Mahomes might have in that situation. We also discuss how the fallout from Lincoln Riley leaving as coach at Oklahoma to take over at USC has possibly created some recruiting opportunity for the Longhorns and what the recruiting landscape might look like if Oklahoma decides to go with Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables to replace Riley. The Flagship weighs in on some of the biggest positions of need for the Longhorns, including linebacker and how Texas may be addressing that position. And, of course, when you talk about positions of need for Texas, you talk about the offensive line and how things could shape up for the Longhorns over the next 10 days with some key in-home visits coming up. Roach provides names of players to focus on when it comes to UT's offensive line recruiting and the stakes involved in landing those names. Sticking with positions of need, Roach gives the latest on where things stand with Texas and its receiver recruiting following a record-breaking season for Longhorns' freshman Xavier Worthy and what could be an event that might trigger some movement in UT's receiver recruiting. We also discuss the things Texas fans should most keep an eye on in terms of events, such as in-home visits, etc., heading into a busy week of recruiting activity.
