We're so grateful to welcome back Erin Carson to the show. Strength guru to the endurance sports world, Erin was the steward of the iconic Rally Sport gym in Boulder, Colorado, for decades. She has an A-list roster of current and former world champions and many age-group triathletes like us balancing life and sport. She is a magnet for any athlete seeking excellence; she exemplifies the same in her work. She generously shares her knowledge and is fearless in collaborating with other movement specialists and coaches. Erin is one of the most sought-after and accessible coaches in the world. She was our incredible guest from episode 114 in July of 2018 when BJ and I were in town for the Boulder Peak triathlon, and here we are five years later with timing that feels oh so perfect. In this episode, we discuss: - don't be sad that it's over, be happy because it happened - moving forward from Rally Sports in Boulder - Taylor Knibb's return to racing - nurturing a beginner's mindset - the marginal decade - rooting athletes in the present moment - Director of Happiness - practicing the fundamentals - breathing and its effects on performance - mobility to strength work - commit to honesty, respect, and trust - expanding our movement bubble - does strength come from mobility, or mobility comes from strength Namaste- Jess

Some of which we discuss in this episode.   Timestamps 2:15 - Interview with Erin Carson begins 8:45 - Erin & Greg chat about Taylor Knibb and her rise from juinors to her current successes. How she has brought her skill in short course racing, through to her long course events. The harder the course, the more my athletes are going to thrive 15:43 - Greg & Erin rewind the clock and discuss her career beginning from the start. 20:31 - How did Erin adapt her strength training knowledge when she began working with endurance athletes. Erin's ability to incorporate 'play' in her training programs and get out of the training studio is a key to her sucess with athletes. My job is to make the athlete and their sport coach look really REALLY good! 26:02 - Have you ever considered being a full coach to pro athlete's? 27:54 - Athletes bring their challenges to Erin and her philosophy is to encompass herself and her athletes with a team of specialists so she can ensure a full strength training service. 30:03 - Erin explains her view about Lucy Charles-Barkly's injury recovery ... she shares 'the magic' ingredient. 32:12 - Erin describes where and how she is learning and growing as a strength training coach. The research tends to be based around male athletes, rather females. 'Experience' and 'listening' to the athlete can be more important than a research paper. There's never perfect ... there's just fast, and pain free 37:54 - Erin discusses how patience and committment to the process is a key as a strength training coach. She believes her job is not to fix things, rather she is trying to work within the brilliance of the body and allowing it to work. 39:36 - We have this mentality that 'tough is better'. Greg and Erin discuss how the flow of running where it's more of a dance than a battle of strength. 40:34 - How much of the strength training that Erin's involved with is about injury reduction, or is it about optimizing performance? 42:15 - So how much correspondence does Erin have with the sports coach so that she is adapting the strength training she allocates and does not 'crush' the athlete. Erin encourages her athletes to come straight to her from their training rathe than heading home and resting prior. Movement before Muscle 48:44 - Erin continues to learn and she shares her most interesting learning lately. The impact between the diaphram and pelvic floor through breathwork. It's amazing if you can just take a big breath and create space between the ribs and the hips, to free up the movement of the pelvis. How do we train the athlete to experience that when they are riding and running! 50:52 - Running tall is a key for Erin. She explains how the GOAT is a tall runner. 53:21 - Erin shares some training tips for us all to utlize no matter where you are in your training journey. 58:25 - What would you tell your 18 year old self? 58:46 - Who would you want to have a dinner with (non family, living or dead)? 59:51 - Where do you see yourself in 3 years? 1:02:38 - Check out the 200+ answer Erin has shared on the www.anyquestion.com app 1:05:13 - Interview concludes   Links Be sure and check out bennettendurance.com Find Greg on social media: Twitter @GregBennett1 Instagram @GregBennettWorld   And check out Erin Carson Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ecfit_strength Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ecfitstrength/ Website: https://rallysportboulder.com/ Rally Sport Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rallysportboulder/ Rally Sport Twitter: https://twitter.com/rallysportco Rally Sport Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rallysporthealthandfitness?fref=ts

Running and Returning is a book, a story, and a glimpse into the tapestry of life for now 61-yr-old runner, Vicki Hunter. Vicki is a prior fellow trainer I met in at RallySport in Boulder. She has recently published a book and whether you are a runner like Vicki, a parent of a child with addiction, or none of the above… this episode is one you'll identify with.  Vicki's story is testimony to the resilience of the body and the mind.   00:00 My Guest:  Vicki Ash Hunter is a writer, runner, coach, and retired university instructor. A lifelong athlete, Hunter found respite in running as a teenager in the 1970s and hasa since relied on it to satisfy her competitive nature and keep her body and mind healthy and strong. Her running resume is stacked with races ranging from 5K to 50 miles, including the 1988 Olympic Marathon Trials and the Pikes Peak Marathon a dozen times, She still competes, and in 2021, at age 60, ran the Boston Marathon in 3 hours, 30 minutes.  Hunter's running career is dotted with accidents and injuries, however, and some of them were life-threatening and life-altering. Most significantly, she came back from near-death after a car accident in 1997, when she was pregnant with her first child. She credits her own fitness and fortitude; her will to deliver a healthy baby; running; and the care of specialized and alternative practitioners for her and her daughter's survival, recovery, and return to real life.  Where she is now Hunter, who retired from the University of Colorado, where she taught political science, is now a running coach certified in Foundation Training  and the Lydiard method. She is a movement specialist who works with athletes of all levels and abilities and is particularly attuned to the needs of ultrarunners. Influenced by her own experience recovering from injuries, she is passionate about and dedicated to helping people move better.  Hunter holds a Ph.D. in political science and is the mother of two grown daughters. She and her husband live in Boulder, Colorado, and Kona, Hawaii. Running and Returning is her first book. As we release this podcast, it is the last day to register for the September Retreat in Boulder, CO. where you can enjoy a deeper conversation and running clinic with Vicki included in the retreat weekend. The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox gets a refresh this year. And the Bow Tie brand does its top-selling SUV well by the adjustments it delivers. In fact in the entire Chevy vehicle line-up, sales of the compact sport-ute are bested only by Silverado. With that in mind, it makes sense that Chevrolet pays extra-special attention to the 5-seat Equinox and its upgrades. So let's unpack the details in this review, starting with the Top-3 things that make this compact crossover so popular. ⇒ Martin Chevrolet Is iDriveSoCal's Chevy HQ 2022 Chevy Equinox Top-3: Drive Safety Interior Compact Crossover/SUV - up to 31 MPG What's New For 2022 Chevy Equinox SUV At first glance, the '22 Equinox is noticeably updated by the refreshed front and rear fascias. Often these are the areas that carmakers focus on for updates, but Chevy designers get kudos for this one.  Because it takes closer inspection to determine if the vehicle is all-new or just spruced up. Chevrolet also ads its popular RS offering to the Equinox trim line-up for 2022.  That's Rally Sport for the uninitiated.  And as the name suggests, it delivers a sportier appearance among other upgrades. Additionally, the bow tie brand adds some new exterior colors for '22.  Including Cherry Red Tintcoat, Iron Gray Metallic, Seaglas Blue Metallic, and Blue Glow Metallic - some at an extra cost. Finally, there's some new technology available in the '22 Equinox.  And that covers available auto parking assist and front and rear park assist along with Outside heated adjustable mirrors. But the favorite tech enhancement that most road warriors will appreciate is the addition of wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability. 1.5L Turbocharged Inline 4-cylinder Trims And MSRPs For 2022 Chevy Equinox comes in four optional trim configurations.  With the starting manufacturers suggested retail price is $25,800. LS $25,800 LT $26,900 RS $30,100 Premier $31,000 Engine, Transmissions, And MPG There is a bit of engine news or 2022.  And that is that your choice of engines got much easier.  Because Chevy is offering only one this year. Engine However, it's an enthusiastic 1.5-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder Ecotec engine.  Plus that power plant delivers 170 horsepower with 203 pound-feet of torque. Transmission Likewise, there's a single transmission option, but with a two or all-wheel drive decision to make. So the trans is a six-speed automatic.  It pairs nicely with the motor and keeps the driving experience confident and enjoyable. And Equinox is more of a crossover than an SUV.  This is evidenced in the transmission area with the two-wheel-drive option being front-wheel drive rather than the power coming from the rear wheels. Fuel Economy As expected, with the only differences being FWD and AWD the estimated fuel economy is quite similar. Specifically, the FWD will give you 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.  Whereas the AWD is estimated to deliver 25 mpg in the city and 30 out on the open road. 183.1-inches long + 72.6" wide What's The '22 Chevy Equinox Look Like? With this refresh, the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox looks sportier for sure.  But also it appears a little wider and bolder. And this brings the overall styling of the compact SUV more in line with the appearance of its brethren.  Specifically, the Trailblazer and Blazer, both of which returned to Chevy's lineup in recent years. And upon their return, they both ushered in the more sleek and sporty look that the 2022 Equinox represents. Exterior Dimensions: Length 183.1 Wheelbase 107.3 Height 65.4 Width 72.6 Track: front 62.2 rear 62.2 Ground clearance 7.6-plus varies *All inches The '22 Equinox curb weight varies depending on the trim and drivetrain.  But the range is 3,274 to 3,512 lbs. Vagy van, vagy kevésbé van. De ők szerencsések, mert egyértelműen tehetségesek, gyorsak, ráadásul nagyon elhivatottak is. Egy sikeres szezonról, a tapasztalatokról, és természetesen a jövőről is beszélgetett ma este Vogel Adrienn (Roger Racing Team és Orsák Rallysport) és Vobeczky Zoltán

What I love about this interview with Todd was that even though I've known Todd (or at least about Todd) for a few years, I never "knew" Todd.  For me to learn about his first triathlon, or his favorite swim course being Cozumel or his favorite bike course being Kentucky, or his Air Force experience (which was incredibly similar to mine), I would have to hang out with him a lot and it would take months if not years to collect all of those insights about Todd.  It's like speed dating but virtually. I saw him swimming on Wednesday at the Gravel Pond, before I watched the interview.  Today, I've seen the interview and I know feel a kind of kinship with Todd.  We're middle of the packer, former Air Force, triathlon nuts. I met Flora Duffy many years ago when she was a hot up and comer on the tri scene. Tim was working with Pearl Izumi at the end of his racing career and Flora was one of the younger sponsored athletes. And it’s funny, because I consistently ran into her at RallySport over the years, but I swear I always had trouble figuring out who she was. Every time I saw her, there was something just a little different. Now I think it’s because I literally watched her transform in slow motion from a pretty great triathlete to the best in the world. Flora has always been really nice, but when you’re a pro athlete and you’re at the gym, it’s not your social hour, so I never spent much time chatting with her. (Side note: When you’ve been retired from professional racing for 15 years and you’re at the gym, it often IS your social hour! But my point is that I try to respect people who need to get their workouts done because their careers depend on it.) Until a few weeks ago. I was splashing around in the outdoor pool with Wilder not getting a workout in (ha!) and I saw Flora jump into the adult pool with a water belt on. She was water running. This immediately triggered my old memories of water running torture – it was something I only ever did if I was totally injured or nervous about getting injured. In fact, Tim water ran so much for the last 10 years of his career, that I’m traumatized just from watching him do it! So anyway, I made the assumption that Flora may be injured. When she was done, we had our first meaningful conversation ever. She shared that she is in fact injured and it does in fact suck. I commiserated and told her she’s got lots of time and hang in there. Now, saying all of that is nice but I will tell you that it really doesn’t make a pro feel better! So I reached out and asked if she would come on the show and share more openly what’s going on. Being the most amazing person that she is, Flora agreed. So get ready – it’s not every day that we get to learn life lessons from the best. Especially from someone who is willing to open up and be vulnerable when she's not feeling her best. Today we talk about: Growing up a triathlete - in Bermuda When what you dream of being as a kid is what you actually become Injuries: they suck Listening to your body Finding love through sport: Flora got married to another pro triathlete last year The next big thing: 2020 Giving back: The Flora Fund handed out its first grants just a few days ago! This is a great episode with a great person who is going through tough stuff just like we all do sometimes. What I love about Flora is that she got injured - and then started a Foundation to give back. She is not someone who lingers in self-misery, but instead she pulls herself out and sees the bigger picture. On that note, check out the Flora Fund and consider donating to help people who otherwise don’t have a shot at getting out of their current situations to see just what their potential could be in this world. And let’s give a collective cheer for Flora to heal and get back on her path to world domination. All right then, you know what time it is. It’s time to get out there and run this world have a great workout and we’ll see you next week!

I first met Kara Goucher a few years ago on the RallySport pool deck standing around in bikinis while our kids were swimming. Kara had just moved to Boulder and was back in the groove of professional racing after having a baby a few years prior. She is a highly decorated distance runner, and has been one of the best runners in America for over a decade. Kara started running in grade school but she really began to tap into her potential after college moving up in distance, running the 5000m and 10000m finals in the 2008 Olympics and then making her way to the Marathon earning 10th place in the 2012 Olympics. She just barely missed the Olympic team in 2016 and since then has begun to see her career in a different light. Her goals today are very different than even three years ago. She is more focused on living a happy life fully present in the moment. My biggest regret as I reflected on this interview is that I didn’t get to know Kara sooner. I love this woman. She is fun, real, insightful, compassionate, and deeply truthful. She lives by her values and when she feels that something is amiss, she fights hard until she resolves the issue and can find that peace again. But it wasn’t always that way for her. Today we talk about: Relationships: Marriage to another running superstar How you redefine yourself through the seasons of your life Becoming less scared of what happens when she isn't a fast runner anymore Kara's purpose today: Being in the moment Fertility challenges Motherhood & how it immediately changed her How Kara stopped searching for happiness through results & then found happiness Confidence - Why that word is so important. Check out Kara's upcoming book Strong: A Runner's Guide to Increasing Confidence and Becoming the Best Version of You - you can preorder now on Amazon for $20 Courage especially as it relates to doing the right thing even if you feel as if you are betraying others like when she exposed her former coach in regards to performance-enhancing methods in training Staying young even as your age grows older I know you will find yourself wanting more Kara after you listen to this one. You’ll be happy to know that you CAN get more Kara as she is offering her Podium Retreat in September in Boulder, so we’ll keep you posted on that too. Let me leave you with Kara's final nugget something that I think you will feel and embrace through this entire episode, “Be kind; not just to other people. Be kind to yourself.” Today's episode is sponsored by Health IQ - they help healthy individuals find better rates on life insurance. The process is smooth, and they really deliver, so if you're interested in life insurance (or if you're like me and realized it's time to get serious after you had a kid!), check them out. Erin Carson has worked as a fitness professional at RallySport Health & Fitness in Boulder, Colorado, since the very start of her career. After decades of commitment to this community-centric fitness club -- located in the heart of one of the fittest cities in the world -- Erin had the opportunity to buy the club. Erin did this in partnership with an ownership group who had been acquainted with her through her work at Rally, her successful triathlon career, and her terrific years on the University of Colorado women's basketball team. There are so many notable differences at Rally Sport, and Erin is at the forefront of all of them. Most importantly, Erin has always believed in cultivating personal trainers who are committed to the craft as a career. She grows both the training business at Rally (Rally Sport is at the top of health clubs globally in many business metrics associated with member engagement) and the trainers personally. She has set national benchmarks for retention of trainers and average salaries earned by her trainers. The sense of commitment to excellence comes through both in Rally's numbers and in the role the club plays in the community. In this terrific conversation with Real Leaders' host Sue Heilbronner, Erin speaks openly about her wins and her (very few) misses.
