Scott Adkins is in a good mood. The response to his latest martial arts movie, 'Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday' - the sequel to his dream project, 2018's 'Accident Man', based on a cherished British comic book he loved as a kid - has been incredibly positive, with many fans claiming it to be one of his best movies. In a gruelling 22-day shoot, Adkins - as producer, story developer, fight choreographer and lead actor - has managed to turn around another action-packed and entertaining indie which delivers way beyond its limited schedule and budget, full to bursting with belly laughs and great fight scenes. As the assassin, Mike Fallon - a hitman who disguises all of his kills as accidents - we find Adkins in a role he clearly loves to play; self-deprecating, goofy, but with a lethal set of skills. During this conversation - Scott's fifth appearance on the show - we discuss the making of the 'Accident Man' sequel, and why he believes it betters the first; what it was like working with the film's directors, the Kirby brothers, making their feature film debut; and the preparation involved in delivering such incredible action, including sparring with the film's exhaustive list of awesome, battle-ready co-stars, including Sarah Chang, Beau Fowler, Faisal Mohammed and Andy Long. We also look ahead to his role in 'John Wick: Chapter 4', scheduled for release on 24 March 2023 - and we finally discover Scott Adkins' favourite martial arts film of all time. Fil Eisler credits his early years as a rock guitarist with giving him a background in producing records, which he says has been essential in his career as a film composer. But it wasn't just anybody's records the multi-talented Eisler cut his teeth on. As a co-writer on Robbie Williams' “Stalkers Day Off (Hanging Around),” “Talk to Me” and “Superblind” (from Williams' multi-platinum album Reality Killed The Video Star), Eisler has also worked with rockers Ryan Adams and Dave Stewart, among many others. By all the accolades his work in film has produced, including the World Soundtrack Awards New Discovery Award, SXSW Best Soundtrack Award and multiple BMI awards for both his film and TV work, one would think he'd stay put in visual media. Not so. The very versatile Eisler has now entered the concert stage with his freestanding work For J.E. Then for a change of scenery, Eisler tried his hand at composing for film and was invited to the prestigious Sundance Film Composers Lab, where he went onto score, among others, Proud Mary, The Titan, and How To Be Single, while also directing and leading over a dozen heavy-hitting Hollywood composers for Peabody-winning documentary, Newtown.By all the accolades his work in film has produced, including the World Soundtrack Awards New Discovery Award, SXSW Best Soundtrack Award and multiple BMI awards for both his film and TV work, one would think he'd stay put in visual media. Not so. The very versatile Eisler has now entered the concert stage with his freestanding work For J.E. Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, which will have its world premiere at the American Youth Symphony in Los Angeles' Royce Hall on April 27. At this Gala event, Eisler's music, featuring world-class violinist Sarah Chang, will be alongside composer icons Dmitri Shostakovich and Richard Strauss.https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1135983/https://www.instagram.com/fileislermusic/?hl=en@thecareermusician@nomadsplace

You could say it was Jackie Chan that first brought together the Manila-based martial arts power couple, Sarah Chang and Vincent Soberano. They first met at the Jackie Chan Stuntman Training Centre; a huge complex in Tianjin, used by people from all over the world to train in the martial arts and make it in the movies. Vincent - a former professional fighter and pioneer of mixed martial arts in China, who helped to train the country's first UFC fighters - helped to design the facility; and in 2016, in walked Sarah Chang - actor, producer, fight choreographer, and five-time USA national wushu team member - training for a role in a movie. While she was there, she befriended the stunt coordinator, Sam Hargrave, who ended up using her to double Celina Jade in Wu Jing's action blockbuster, Wolf Warrior II. Vincent and Sarah connected over their passion for martial arts, and their drive to portray authentic fighting styles in the movies. But it wasn't until their work on the action horror, Blood Hunters - filmed in the Philippines - that the two decided to leave Beijing and move to Manila full-time, where they have since started a family, set up their own production company, and produced a string of films together, as well as working on their own projects. Their other films together include the tournament movie, The Trigonal, and the soon-to-be-released, Circle of Bones. Vincent and Sarah discuss the challenges they face making martial arts films in the Philippines, which is still an uphill struggle despite the international success of similarly 'hyper-local' fight films made elsewhere in Asia. They also share tips on how they are remaining busy (and sane) during the coronavirus lockdown. We are back with a brand new Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast, and this week we are chatting with an old friend of Geektown, composer Fil Eisler. For those of you that have missed the five times we previously interviewed Fil, he is the brilliant composer behind tv shows such as 'Empire', 'Revenge', 'UnREAL', and 'What/If', along with movies such as 'The Titan', 'CHIPS', Marti Noxon's 'To the Bone', and Melissa McCarthy/Ben Falcone films 'Life of the Party' and 'Superintelligence'. Fil began his career as a touring musician, where he traveled, recorded and wrote with a multitude of artists, including Robbie Williams, with whom he has written a number of songs such as 'Superblind' and 'My F*ck You to You'. He also recently composed an original concerto performed by the brilliant violinist Sarah Chang, and worked with a group of fellow composers, including our old friend Nathan Barr, on 'Silent Films Live', adding original score to silent movies. As an advocate for gun control in the US, Fil has worked on various documentaries such as 'Newtown', about the aftermath of the mass shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and 'Us Kids', following the students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. It has been a couple of years since we last caught up with Fil, so we had lots to chat about, and for the first time, I got to do it face-to-face in his studio in LA. Unfortunately, I also was getting over a sore throat at the time, so I apologise for the croakiness of my voice in this recording! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

She has also been honored with multiple teaching awards, including ones from the Union City Symphony and the Korean Radio Broadcast Network. In addition to being on the faculty of the Pre-College Division of the Manhattan School of Music, she has a large private studio in the New York City metropolitan area where she teaches violin performance to aspiring players from ages 3 to 23. Her students have won national and international competitions and have performed in such great halls as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and the White House. They are routinely accepted, with scholarships, to the world's premier music conservatories including The Manhattan School of Music, New England Conservatory, the Juilliard School, Peabody Conservatory, Rice University, the Royal College of Music, and The Cleveland Institute.  Her students routinely perform with orchestras around the NYC area.  The NY Times described Ms. Faidley as “…fiercely yet compassionately committed to her students, to her colleagues, and to the art of music.” Ms. Faidley became adjunct faculty at the Hartt School before the age of 30, reflecting her devotion to the art of violin pedagogy. She has also served on the college conservatory faculties of Montclair State University's Cali School of Music and Hunter College's School of Music.  She holds a Master of Music degree in violin performance and pedagogy from the Peabody Conservatory of Music and was inducted into the professional music fraternity, Pi Kappa Lambda, which honors integrity, superior music performance, and academic success. Ms. Faidley routinely brings in major concert artists and teachers to give private masterclasses to her studio .  The last four years have included Ray Chen, Stefan Jackiw, Charlie Siem, Dmitri Berlinsky, Ronald Copes, Lisa Batiashvili, Sarah Chang, and Katie Lansdale. She won the prestigious Melissa Tiller Memorial Prize for graduate performance and while still a student at Peabody, joined the faculty of both the preparatory and conservatory divisions after serving as a teaching assistant to Shirley Givens. Ms. Faidley currently employs fourteen violin and musicianship faculty members as part of her school, The Elizabeth Faidley Studio.  All students of any faculty member have access to recitals, masterclasses, private camps, and other performance opportunities.  Ms. Faidley works directly with each teacher in weekly consultations to ensure a balanced musical education for each student. Ms. Faidley also shares her passion for teaching through her writing. She has completed work on the second edition of a book for children titled “Pre-Twinkling to the Stars: Your Joyful Journey Begins” which focuses on a strong technical foundation for beginning violinists. Her second book, a beginning theory workbook for beginning and intermediate violinists, is also available. She has also published several essays in the American Suzuki Journal and is currently writing a third book on the art of pedagogy entitled, “What Happened to the Nurture?”  The book reflects her teaching philosophy, which seeks to empower the entire, unique person as the foundation of the musician. She generously makes time to mentor her students through auditions, competitions, and performances and stays in touch with them between and beyond studio lessons. Temple University's Music Preparatory Division, or “Temple Music Prep” for short, is a program located in the heart of center city, Philadelphia, that provides high quality, non-credit music and dance instruction, and related activities to the Community on behalf of the Boyer College of Music and Dance, and Temple University at-large. World-renowned violinists Sarah Chang and Elena Urioste, as well as several members of the Philadelphia Orchestra share something in common: they were all participants of Temple Music Prep. I also started my own professional career right after graduating from Curtis as a theory teacher and chamber music coach at Temple Music Prep. To this day, I'm not sure who had more fun in my theory classes - the kids jumping up and down on the shaving cream staff lines I painted on the floor or the parents laughing outside my class! Anyway, I digress. This month, Temple Music Prep will be celebrating 30 years of excellence with a series of performances featuring students from their Center for Gifted Young Musicians, culminating in a gala concert on Saturday, May 13, 7:30 PM at the Church of the Holy Trinity on Rittenhouse Square. Before we visit some of the amazing students and teachers at Temple Music Prep, I want to point out that Temple Music Prep provides quality music and dance instruction to everyone at all ages and ability levels, from their early childhood and Suzuki programs to adult classes and community ensembles. In fact, some of the students we will listen to started participating at Temple Music Prep when they were toddlers themselves. Here’s the latest edition of the Classic Newsnight podcast; lovingly crafted to provide you with an online experience you’ll want to download and treasure. Seriously though, we’ve got some gems for you to enjoy this time around. As well as regular contributors, like the Classic FM doctor, Rob Hicks, and our resident bookworm, Chris Powling, we hear from two of the world’s top violinists. Sarah Chang tells us why the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 is in her all time top three, while Tasmin Little talks about her passion for the music of Delius. We’ve also got the last of Bob Jones’s four reports on the Channel Five TV series, The Singing Estate. Has the conductor Ivor Setterfield succeeded in his task of turning forty novice singers from a tough housing estate into a fully-fledged choir, fit for a performance at the Royal Albert Hall? You be the judge!
