For our second bonus episode this week's we're going to listen to the familiar voice of our Nordic editor Richard Orange and his recent interview with Henry Catalini Smith, chairman of the Unionen trade union club at Spotify. The interview was recorded on the 14th of April, a couple of days after Unionen submitted its request to start negotiations with Spotify over the introduction of a collective bargaining agreement. We'll hear why Henry Catalini Smith wanted to start a union club, how he tailored the message for Spotify's many immigrant workers, how layoff announcements have affected the company, how management reacted to his union efforts, and much more. Last week, after this interview was recorded, Spotify pushed back against the drive to unionize by distributing leaflets to employees arguing against the need for a collective bargaining agreement. However, Logn and Mia are enthusiastic and super positive and believe that change is on the horizon.

Is Sweden the ideal model to follow? Well it sure looks like it! Tune into this week's episode to find out who Peter is and what he does. Spoiler alert, he's the current national leader of Sweden and he is killing the game with his core team. Hopefully this collaboration between his team and the members of his community can serve to be the ideal that other communities can also strive to become. Thank you Peter and to your wonderful team for giving me (and hopefully others) hope that we might have a future after all. ~~~Social Media Stuff~~~ https://linktr.ee/LunaStream
Lena Walther is the Honorary Consul of Sweden to Nevada. As a Consul, Lena also promotes the Swedish Model for Combatting Trafficking and primarily reaches out to legislators that can make a difference. Lena opened the Consulate in 2006 and has been very active ever since. She began her career with the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has had assignments and lived in 10 countries throughout her and her husband's Diplomatic careers. She moved to Las Vegas in 1997 and has been an entrepreneur since then. Most of her time today is dedicated to Awareness Is Prevention (AIPNV.ORG). In 2014, she co-founded a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, Awareness Is Prevention (AIP), which brings awareness of sex trafficking of minors. Through targeted training programs for school-age children and their parents, and an “Awareness through the Arts” program for vulnerable youth, AIP focuses on the training and education aspect in fighting child sex trafficking. The organization also arranges training of Law Enforcement agencies as well as Schools and NGO's. AIP works closely with other non-profit organizations around the US. During the Pandemic in 2020, AIP was approached by a UK organization, “Internet Protection of Children” (IPOC) who needed a partner in the US. The main focus is to force certain online platforms to adhere to age verification in order to prevent minors from accessing the sites. Currently, the focus is on “OnlyFans.com”. Globally, the average cost of a slave is $90. Trafficking primarily involves exploitation which comes in many forms, including; forcing victims into prostitution, subjecting victims to slavery or involuntary servitude, and compelling victims to commit sex acts for the purpose of creating pornography. According to some estimates, approximately 80% of trafficking involves sexual exploitation, and 19% involves labor exploitation. There are approximately 20 to 30 million slaves in the world today. According to the U.S. State Department, 600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders every year. More than 70% are female and half are children Episode Highlights: What impact does not have a father in the house have on sex trafficking and sexual abuse? Children, young girls—some as young as 9 years old—are being bought and sold for sex in America. The average age for a young woman being sold for sex is now 13 years old. What is the average age of a boy and girl involved in the sex trade? What is the average time a person spends as a sex slave? What happens to them? What percentage get out? How many children in the US are sold into sex trafficking annually? A young girl can be sold 10 to 15 times a day—and a ‘righteous' pimp confiscates 100 percent of her earnings. Adults purchase children for sex at least 2.5 million times a year What is a sex slave worth today? How much money do they produce for the trafficker? How do sex traffickers keep control of their victims? Where do they hide? What are the warning signs that you might have a sex trafficker next door in your neighborhood? Let's talk about the pornification of a generation. How much does a pimp earn per prostitute? What are the risks of being online? How has Covid affected sex trafficking? Is there an increase in sex trafficking due to our open border on the south? What is only fans and why is it dangerous? It seems that sex trafficking has gotten more violent? What are some of the horror stories? What is law enforcement doing about this?

In this episode we inter view Torkil Lauesen. Lauesen is a long-time anti-imperialist activist and writer living in Denmark. From 1970 to 1989 he was a full-time member of a communist anti-imperialist group, supporting Third World liberation movements by both legal and illegal means. In connection with support work, he has traveled in Lebanon, Syria, Zimbabwe, South Africa, the Philippines, and Mexico. In the 1990's, during his political imprisonment, he was involved in prison activism and received a Masters degree in political science. He is also the author of multiple books, including The Global Perspective: Reflections on Imperialism and Resistance and The Principal Contradiction. He is currently a member of International Forum, an anti-imperialist organization based in Denmark. Today we talk to him about his latest book Riding The Wave: Sweden's Integration into the Imperialist World System. Which is a thorough investigation into the development of the so-called “Swedish Model” considered by many to be the pinnacle of social democracy. Many US based social democrats, have even gone so far as to describe it this model as a form of “socialism.” Torkil explains the relationship of this economic model to colonialism and imperialism, arguing that the accomplishments of the Social Democratic Party, and trade union movement, would not be possible if one took imperialism out of the equation. We hope you enjoy this conversation, and definitely recommend Lauesen's new book Riding The Wave, which is not only a great history of the conditions that produced the “Swedish Model,” but deals with many other global phenomena at some length, including how neoliberalism restructured the capitalist world system. "Conflation of sex work and sex trafficking Because prostitution can be an extremely political topic that represents differing political interests, the method of data collection and the use of collected data can vary in reliability.[12] While more pro-sex work academics, organizations, and activists make an explicit demarcation between sex workers and victims of sex trafficking, many other groups consider prostitution to inherently lack a voluntary component. Many anti-sex work activists consider any form of migration for the purpose of commercial sex to be a form of human trafficking.[13] As a result, depending on the definition of human trafficking by the organization or data collector, the number of either migrant sex workers or victims of sex trafficking can dramatically change depending on whether or not these two categories of individuals are conflated. Scholars, service providers, and practitioners who attempt to remain apolitical and outside the feminist views on sex trafficking and sex work regarding prostitution still often remark how the legal definitions of human trafficking are still too vague for them to efficiently and neutrally define and count victims.[12][14] As a result, who is considered to be a migrant sex worker or victim of sex trafficking can widely vary." Legality of sex work See also: Prostitution law Decriminalization - No criminal penalties for prostitution Legalization -prostitution legal and regulated Abolitionism - prostitution is legal, but organized activities such as brothels and pimping are illegal; prostitution is not regulated Neo-abolitionism illegal to buy sex and for 3rd party involvement, legal to sell sex Prohibitionism - prostitution illegal Legality varies with local laws The legal status of sex work varies in various different national contexts around the world. Scholar Janie Chuang identifies the following four regulatory models for prostitution:[16] Complete criminalization: Prohibition of prostitution for all parties (prostitute, clients, and pimps) Partial criminalization: Prohibition of prostitution for all parties, except for prostitutes. This is popularly known as the Swedish Model which does not criminalize the prostitute, but rather targets the clients and pimps. Decriminalization: Does not consider prostitution a crime. Law enforcement is only involved when acts under criminal law occur. Legalization: Active regulation of prostitution through licensing, zoning, and mandatory health measures." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

An ageing population, immigration, tax evasion and incoming foreign workers are frequently cited as threats to the Nordic Model. The universal welfare state is built upon citizens and the state fulfilling their particular roles: the state providing childcare, healthcare and benefits in return for people working and paying their taxes ('the social contract'). But don't these roles require a lot of national regulation? And what happens to them when globalising forces (such as the arrival of workers from overseas, Europeanisation or international financial markets) hit?In this podcast, we get to hear about some specific challenges which exemplify the overall context of how big and small crises have affected regulation in the Nordics. The podcast was recorded in October 2020 at the annual conference of the Danish European Community Studies Association. Thanks are extended to the organisers for letting nordics.info be a fly on the wall.Find futher reading and full biographies of the participants by clicking here.If you would like to hear more about the Nordic Model, check out two earlier podcasts from @KnowledgeOnTheNordics: The Nordic Model: Heaven or Hell, or read more on nordics.info.

Compared to the lockdowns and shuttered businesses in countries across the world, Sweden is an outlier. Swedish officials have advised citizens to work from home and avoid travel, but most schools and businesses have remained open. This relaxed approach aims to minimize impact on the economy, and slow the spread of the virus through what is known as “herd immunity.” Now, as the U.S. weighs further spreading the disease against the impact of a tanked economy, some Americans — particularly conservatives — are looking toward Sweden’s model as an option. On Second Thought unpacks the merits, risks and strategy behind Sweden’s approach, and what has become a political talking point here in the U.S.
