Interview by Angela CroudaceAfter more than a decade, A Skylit Drive is set to return to Australian stages this November—and frontman Michael “Jag” Jagmin couldn't be more excited. Speaking from the sweltering heat of Texas, Jagmin reflects on what he remembers from the band's first trip Down Under and what fans can expect this time around.“It's been so long, it almost feels like going back for the first time again,” Jagmin shares. While he admits the memories are a bit foggy, he recalls the tour as “gruelling but rewarding,” full of unforgettable shows, unique cities, and classic Aussie experiences like seeing kangaroos and cuddling koalas.Joining forces on tour with Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Jagmin looks forward to reconnecting with some familiar faces—and making new friends. While no on-stage collaborations are confirmed, fans can expect an energetic, wide-ranging set list that spans the band's entire catalogue. “Old fans, new fans—everyone's going to hear something they love,” he promises. One song he still thinks deserves more attention? X Marks the Spot from Identity on Fire. “I thought it was going to be one of the biggest tracks on that album,” he says. Despite being overshadowed by hits like Too Little Too Late, it remains a personal favourite. When he's not writing or performing, Jagmin finds joy in DIY home projects. “Ten years ago, I didn't have a handy bone in my body,” he laughs. “Now I'm building things around the house and actually know what I'm doing.”He also opened up about vocal warmups and the evolution of his approach to singing. Once a stranger to technique, Jagmin now relies on modern tools like vocal nebulizers and straw exercises, crediting his vocal longevity to a deeper understanding of muscle control. As for new music? Jagmin confirms the band is working hard behind the scenes. “We're putting a new face to the name,” he says.Whether it's nostalgia, new material, or just a chance to see the post-hardcore icons back in action, A Skylit Drive's return to Australia is one not to miss.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

In advance of the UN Summit of the Future, Earth4All has released a new report detailing two possible futures for Sub-Saharan Africa this century. The report, "SDGs for All: Africa," uses Earth4All's state-of-the-art system dynamics model to chart possible pathways for SDG implementation in the region. Written in collaboration with notable African sustainability experts, the report emphasises the scale and urgency of economic transformation needed to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the region. SDGs for All: Africa In the best-case scenario, called the "Giant Leap," Sub-Saharan Africa could see poverty drop from 500 million to 25 million people, hunger nearly eradicated, and universal access to education, clean water, and sustainable electricity. On the other hand, the "Too Little Too Late" scenario paints a grim picture where poverty rises to 900 million, hunger still affects 180 million, and over a billion people lack clean water. The Too Little Too Late scenario is based on existing policies in the region. These two scenarios highlight the critical importance of action this decade to drive five extraordinary turnarounds in the areas of poverty, inequality, empowerment, food, and energy. Key highlights from the modelling for Sub-Saharan Africa include: Poverty reduction: Under the Giant Leap scenario, poverty decreases dramatically from 500 million to 25 million people by 2100, compared to a rise to 900 million under the Too Little Too Late scenario. Hunger Eradication: Hunger is nearly eradicated in the Giant Leap, with undernourishment dropping to 20 million, in stark contrast to 180 million under the Too Little Too Late scenario. Education Access: The average schooling years increase to 13, up from 8 years under the Too Little Too Late scenario. Water Access: Universal water access is achieved by 2070, significantly improving from over one billion without access in the Too Little Too Late scenario. Electricity Access: Sustainable electricity access reaches over 95% by 2050, compared to 75% still lacking access under the Too Little Too Late scenario. Climate Mitigation: Carbon emissions are reach acceptable levels by 2040 as opposed to dangerous levels that push global temperatures even higher. Economic Growth: Decent work and economic growth see significant boosts, with unemployment falling to 50 million by 2100, compared to 150 million in the Too Little Too Late scenario. Workers' disposable income and GDP per capita also see substantial increases, doubling in comparison to the Too Little Too Late scenario. And inequality is greatly reduced with labour's share of GDP reaching 60% by 2040, thereby making Africa one of the most equal regions in the world The new research from Earth4All, an international team of economists and scientists, shows the policy levers needed to ensure that the SDGs are met in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2100. The report 'SDGs for All: Africa' equips policymakers with practical solutions designed to accelerate SDG implementation and to respond to the planetary emergency. It concludes that policymakers can step up the implementation of the SDGs by 2030 and beyond and achieve wellbeing for all. But this is only possible by enacting five 'extraordinary turnarounds' that break with current trends. "The challenge for Sub-Saharan Africa this century is that economic transformation must now take place in the shadow of a climate emergency. This is a breakthrough or breakdown moment for the continent. It teeters on the brink of two vastly different futures: one of transformative progress and one of deepening despair. As we approach the UN Summit of the Future this September, the time for bold, decisive action is now - to ensure a 'Giant Leap' towards a future where poverty and hunger are eradicated, and every individual has access to education, clean water, and sustainable energy. Our choices today will shape the destiny of millions. We must act, and we must act decisively." Said Jane Kabubo-M...
Jackie Lipinski, Kevin Oakley and Beth Russell host Episode 349! In this episode, the team discusses the seasonal changes in homebuilder marketing, and focusing on the right things when it comes to leads and conversions. We have some new exciting blog posts they discuss, highlighting the importance of not oversimplifying how we view data. And of course last but not least, "strategic spaghetti", a great term Beth has been using to remind her builders to approach even new opportunities very strategically.Story Time (02:00)Beth has deemed the song "Too Little Too Late" by JoJo the anthem of August, emphasizing the importance of preparing for the fall and celebrating the small wins we can get. Jackie brings up an insightful story from a book she loves, Alchemy, by Rory Sutherland, which she tied into finding creative ways for a builder to remove boredom from the process of waiting for your home. In The News (10:59)Messaging Strategies to Meet Your Buyers Where They Are (https://www.doyouconvert.com )Federal judge rules Google violated antitrust law (https://searchengineland.com)Attribution is B.S. Three-Part Series (https://www.doyouconvert.com)Zillow releases state-specific short-term touring agreements (https://www.housingwire.com) Question of the Week: How will increased pricing transparency affect conversion ratios? (43:24) Kevin gives a great example about Tesla and ties it to interactive floor plans.Beth feels making the process easier up-front will spur further conversation down the road, and discusses the strategy of gating information and how it all comes down to execution -- and Kevin discusses his thoughts on gating information.Jackie recalls the positives and negatives of when you provide information, and how accurate the pricing details are. Things We Love - Things We Hate (52:00)Beth's favorite phrase this week for her builders is "strategic spaghetti". When throwing things at the wall to see what sticks, you still have to do things strategically! Jackie's first heirloom tomato is in, and this year she went for quality over quantity! Kevin brings up UTour, and one of his new favorite questions to ask, "How do you track and report UTour appointments?" And... over 80% said they don't! He is loving Ozlo Sleepbuds, which plays what you are interested in listening to, but then defaults to your sleep sounds. Market Proof Marketing · Ep 349: Strategic SpaghettiQuestions? Comments? The Classic Film: Pumpkinhead (1988) "After a tragic accident, a man conjures up a towering, vengeful demon called Pumpkinhead to destroy a group of unsuspecting teenagers” (IMDb.com). Famed creature creator Stan Winston's directorial debut is the sort of film that most people outside the general horror fandom probably haven't even heard of, but it garners certain respect among the faithful and for good reason. We wouldn't say it's "stellar" but it's certainly charming and very enjoyable. Oh, and Pumpkinhead be throwin' folks. The Modern Film: A Quiet Place (2018) "In a post-apocalyptic world, a family is forced to live in silence while hiding from monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing” (IMDb.com). A Quiet Place may be a motherlode for pedants, but to fall down that hole would be to miss the incredible performances and atmosphere that make the movie pretty dang good. Plus, it makes Chris cry. It was RuthAnne's powerful vocals which first caught the attention of a manager when she was a teenager living in Ireland. She'd created a demo tape herself and with undeniable talent, was offered the opportunity to go to Los Angeles and begin working towards a career as a musician. In one of her first ever writing sessions, she ended up writing ‘Too lIttle Too Late', the platinum selling single which would go on to be released by Jojo. Having unexpectedly found this success as a song-writer, RuthAnne went on to write music for One Direction, Bebe Rexha, and Britney Spears, to name a few. As an artist she's found her own lane and chats to about her upcoming EP and album, her ideal creative environment, and building the right room. Season 2: Episode 10 Billy Steinberg Welcome to Season 2, Episode 10 of Song Chronicles. Our special guest is Songwriter Hall of Fame member Billy Steinberg, who with collaborator Tom Kelly wrote many Number 1 hits including "Like a Virgin" by Madonna, "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper, "So Emotional" by Whitney Houston, "Alone" by Heart, and "Eternal Flame" by The Bangles. The duo also co-wrote "I'll Stand By You" with Chrissie Hynde and "I Touch Myself" with Christine Amphlett and Mark McEntee of The Divinyls. Billy Steinberg and Cyndi Lauper in Finland, 1988. Billy's first hit song was "How Do I Make You," which Linda Ronstadt decided to record after hearing demos from Steinberg's band Billy Thermal. In our conversation, Billy shares how he found out Rondstadt would record the song which later reached the Billboard Top 10. Billy Thermal's unreleased 1980 album In 1981, Steinberg began a momentous collaboration with songwriter Tom Kelly, with whom he wrote many memorable hits of the 80s and 90s. Billy shares how he and Tom found their groove as co-writers and how they always tried to write to make themselves happy rather than customizing songs for potential artists. Their breakout hit was "Like A Virgin," the title track of Madonna's second album. You'll hear Billy's personal story behind the lyrics to "Like A Virgin" and what it meant for him to hear the song sung by an Italian nun, directed at God. Billy Steinberg, Tom Kelly, and Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, 1992. Steinberg's lyrics resonate throughout the years because their themes are universal — which is different from being general or bland, as we discuss. We also talk about how the Brill Building Era inspired him to become a songwriter. Billy has gone on to write with many other songwriters, including frequent collaborator Josh Alexander with whom he co-write "Give Your Heart a Break" by Demi Lovato and "Too Little Too Late" by Jojo. They have also written numerous songs with the artist LP, whom Steinberg calls "a female Roy Orbison." Billy Steinberg and LP Enjoy this interview with Billy Steinberg on what makes songs that stand the test of time.
This week I got to sit down with a woman whose music was such an important part of my adolescence (and probably yours, too). To this day, I know every word to Baby It's You, Too Little Too Late, and Leave (Get Out). She starred in Aquamarine -- how much did I love Aquamarine? -- and has the voice of an angel. Yes, no other than JoJo. The ORIGINAL JoJo, that is. JoJo let me in on why we didn't hear from her for nearly ten years while she endured a legal battle with her record label that silenced her and prohibited her from releasing new music. We talked about parental mental illness and shared our mutual experience having mental illness play a prominent role in our upbringings. We talked about shame, perfectionism, and the risky behavior and unhealthy relationships she lived through before identifying, seeking help and caring for her mental health. JoJo was the breadwinner of her family from such a young age - she was just 13 when her first hit single debut as #1 - and we talked about the crippling pressure that came with that. We really went there in our heart to heart and I'm so appreciative of her bravery and willingness to share this part of herself and her past with us. JoJo is FINALLY able to release new music, and thank god, because this EP is truly a gift. It's called Trying Not To Think About It and it's about her experience with anxiety and depression. She talks about the negative, anxious voice in her head (who she calls Burlinda) and has an entire song about the decision to allow herself to go on antidepressants. It's beautiful, and so important, and everyone should go listen. Read along to learn the English phrases TOO LITTLE TOO LATE and BETTER LATE THAN NEVERIn this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase too little too late. When we say that somebody does something and that it's too little too late, it means that they're not doing enough, and they're starting to do it later than they should have. Many people in Ontario, Canada right now believe that the current lockdown that we're in is too little too late. That means that they don't think the government has closed enough things, and they don't think that the lockdown started early enough. There's many things in life where people believe that it is too little too late. So not enough is being done, and the time when that has been started is too late in people's opinions. So I think it's fine, but some people think it's too little too late.WANT FREE ENGLISH LESSONS? GO TO YOUTUBE AND SEARCH FOR, "BOB THE CANADIAN"✅If you enjoy these lessons please consider supporting me at: http://www.patreon.com/bobthecanadianThe other phrase I wanted to teach you today is the phrase better late than never. Now, I did teach this phrase a couple of years ago but I thought it was worse... It was worse. I thought it was worth reviewing. Better late than never applies to this video in particular. Sometimes it's better to do something late than to not do it at all. You'll probably notice that this English lesson is a few hours late. It's actually early Monday morning right now. I usually do these the day before, and they come out in the night when I'm sleeping, but I thought it's better late than never. I thought I should get up, get outside, and do this English lesson, so you at least have a Monday English lesson to watch. So definitely this is a situation where it's better late than never. It's better to do it than to not do it at all.So let's review. When you say too little too late, you're referring to someone or some organization that does something, and what they're doing isn't enough, in your opinion, and you also think they're doing it later than they should have. And when you say better late than never, you're basically saying sometimes it's better to do something than to not do it at all. Sometimes when people show up somewhere late, they'll say, "Well, I'm here, but better late than never." Basically what they mean, "It's better that I came instead of just staying home and not coming at all."But hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video. This comment is from Reder. I'm hoping I'm pronouncing your name correct. I'm hoping I'm pronouncing your name correctly. And Reder says this. "I'm wondering why the way you pronounce Niagara is so different from online English dictionaries." And my response was this. "I have a bit of a regional accent. People in my area, when speaking quickly..." Hello, cat. "Say it that way. It is the same with Toronto. When we say it quickly, we forget a few letters."So I have, thanks Reder, by the way, for that comment. I have a Southern Ontario accent, probably an Ontario accent. That's the province I live in, and it comes out a lot when I say the names of local areas. So a lot of you are familiar with Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls is close to my house, but when I speak quickly and when I speak normally, I say Nagra Falls. I hardly... I hardly. I hardly pronounce the N-I-A. It sounds more like an A, Niagara Falls. So I go to Niagara Falls a lot. When people visit me from far away, I take them to see Niagara Falls.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/bobthecanadian)

Having been watching the comments in a big marketer's Facebook Lives, I'm struck by how people are always seeking certainty before taking action. Will it work for me / my business, will it work in my niche, will it work in my country? The limiting / negative beliefs and sweeping generalisations were coming thick and fast. This is in direct contrast to how I work, where I'll take an idea and get the "minimal viable version" up and running and just test, test, test! I'm actually testing using Facebook Live to record the middle part of my vzine each week now, so that I can test Social Media Examiner's assertions that Facebook Lives are a waste of time after the event, while Frank Kern says the exact opposite. Clicks And Leads is a "tongue in cheek" digital marketing Vzine by entrepreneur, author, podcaster, speaker, Nicola Cairncross. Too Little Too Late? Prefer to read? Hello, and welcome to the Vzine this week. I'm going live on Facebook. I'm taking a leaf out of Frank Kern's book, and I'm going live. In the middle section of the Vzine this week is me going live, talking about entrepreneurial uncertainty because so many people seem to be seeking entrepreneurial certainty and there just isn't any such thing. So I cover the main points about what I see people needing and how to deal with entrepreneurial uncertainty and I hope you enjoy it. I'm still in Shoreham, I'm staying with the kids an extra couple of weeks, just because I can, and I'm heading back on Friday to Stoupa in The Mani. I give you a tip in the middle section this week about someone who is a natural-born marketer. And if you're interested in Greece, then you can follow her and she goes live on a regular basis and shows you the most beautiful parts of where we live. Let's get on with the show, shall we? The whole topic of today's conversation, for the first five minutes anyway, is, living with uncertainty as an entrepreneur. Because I was just watching one of Frank Kern's live videos and he's been doing a lot recently and I was reading the comments, and one of the things I was noticing was people were seeking assurance. They were seeking assurance that things would work for them, that things would work in their market niche, that things would work in their geolocation, and they just really wanted to know that things would work. So they were looking for assurances that it would work in the real estate market, they were looking for assurances that social media marketing would work in the car sales market, and they were looking for assurances that it would work in the bug catching arena. I know Hal the Bug Catcher, from down there in Florida, and he has done great with video marketing. I don't believe there's a business that could not do well with video marketing and social media marketing. There was one guy on Frank's timeline that was asking about a banqueting hall. He'd got the job of trying to market a banqueting hall. Well, I'd be going live from every single event that that banqueting hall is hosting. I'd be going down there as a marketing person, I'd be making sure I was taking fabulous video live from the events. Or I'd be getting fabulous photos of the events and I would be turning those photos into a video using a tool like Lumen5 for example, and then I would be putting some fabulous music on top of that, and then I'd be rolling that out on my Facebook page. I think there is ways now using, what is it, OPS? Open Broad-- OBS,

New Year is a good time to make new beginnings and my daughter Phoebe has decided to look for a job at a digital marketing company or other business media company. I've been running her through a few tests, all designed to enhance her self awareness. I have a good idea of her personality but there might still be some surprises. It's important to know who you are, so that you don't go applying for jobs that you would be ill-suited for or worse, that you would hate! Clicks And Leads is a "tongue in cheek" digital marketing Vzine by entrepreneur, author, podcaster, speaker, Nicola Cairncross. Hello and welcome to the this week's Vzine and this week I'm going to be giving you some tips to make new beginnings easier. I'm in Shoreham, the weather's terrible but it's worse in Greece. It's been snowing in Greece for the first time in 15 years apparently! So, I'm not looking forward to going back but I did decide to stay a little bit longer in Shoreham to be with Phoebe and Nelson and miss the snow. Anyway, enough waffling about the weather. Let's crack on with the show So, I said I'd share the self awareness tools that I'm sharing with my daughter Phoebe, who's on a job quest at the moment. The first one, is, I got her to do the Wealth Dynamics Test. This was invented by Roger Hamilton and I think it's a mixture of lots of different things but it does seem to be remarkably powerful at showing people what their fastest route to the money is, or what their fastest route to success is. It uncovers your personality aspects that just come completely naturally to you, and suggests the kind of jobs that would suit you, as well as holding up examples of the kind of people who are in your Wealth Dynamics profile. I came out really strongly as a Creator Star personality type. Which means that, although I may be introvert, I'm very creative and I don't mind being on camera, or being onstage, but I'm not massively keen on big gatherings, or, if I do go to them, I enjoy them at the time, and then I need lots of time to get over them afterwards. If you know these things about yourself, you can work out the best way to be as successful as you can be, without draining yourself. For example, I need a couple of days after any speaking gig, to let the adrenalin wear off again. And now I know that, I don't try and put any important work things in straight after a speaking engagement. If you want to do your Wealth Dynamics Test, the easiest way is either to Google it, but you could be hunting around a bit, or go to my friend, JudithMorgan.com and scroll down the sidebar of her website until you see the Wealth Dynamics logo. That's the best way to find it quickly. I highly recommend them. So, mainly last week, on the blog and the podcast, I was talking about money. It's a great time of year, the New Year, to be thinking about your money, because a lot of times people think about what they want to achieve during the next year. But the other thing you can do, is make a budget for the next year. Because the one way to become financially successful is to make a big gap between what you spend and what you earn. It is what you do with the difference that counts. Starting to save it. Accumulate an emergency fund, and then when the emergency fund has got to a figure you're comfortable with, start siphoning that money off into a pot for investments. What do you invest in? You invest in things that will make you money. So,
In this episode we discuss a troubling trend that is going to plague many generations to come if we are willing to do a major course correction. Bankruptcy will continue to rise and the gap between the have and havenots grows. I dissect an article I read titled "Too Little Too Late" that talks about the growing number of Baby Boomer bankruptcies. The problem is not what you might think it is. After Linda Ronstadt scored a Top 10 hit with Billy Steinberg’s “How Do I Make You” in 1980, he went on to score a series of chart-topping singles co-written with Tom Kelly, including “Like a Virgin” by Madonna, “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper, “Alone” by Heart, "So Emotional" by Whitney Houston, and “Eternal Flame” by the Bangles. Additional Top 10 hits from the Steinberg/Kelly songbook include “In Your Room” by the Bangles, “I Touch Myself” by Divinyls, “I’ll Stand By You” by The Pretenders, and “I Drove All Night,” which was a major international hit three different times, first by Cyndi Lauper, then by Roy Orbison, and, finally, by Celine Dion. After Tom Kelly retired from the music business, Steinberg partnered with Rick Nowels, with whom he won a Grammy for their work on the title track to Celine Dion’s multiplatinum Falling Into You album in 1996. Since the mid-2000s, Billy has written extensively with Josh Alexander, with whom he penned JoJo's Top 5 pop hit "Too Little Too Late" and Demi Lovato’s “Give Your Heart a Break." Additionally, the pair partnered with songwriter/producer – and previous Songcraft guest - Toby Gad for Nicole Scherzinger's #1 UK chart-topper "Don't Hold Your Breath.” Other artists who’ve contributed to Steinberg’s long list of Billboard charting singles include Pat Benatar, Tina Turner, Susanna Hoffs, Chicago, Bette Midler, Ace of Base, Phil Collins, Katharine McPhee, Carrie Underwood, and many others. Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2011.
In which Shana and Daniel discuss the second set of three episodes in Series 7: The Power of Three, The Angels Take Manhattan, and The Snowmen. Amy and Rory leave, Clara shows up for real, and lots of silly sexist jokes. Show Notes: Main Topic: The Power of Three, The Angels Take Manhattan, and the Snowmen. Catching up with a bit from last episode. Comparing Brian to Wilf. The Second Doctor only *feinged* being incompetent. Capaldi's comments about the upcoming Series 8. The most famous quote from Power of Three. Amy's relationship with the Doctor. The Eighth Doctor has Will Sasso burned onto his hearts. "He Doesn't Like to See You Age." Too Little Too Late. Earlier Doctors and Patience. Our headcanon about Kate Stewart. Social media and the cubes. We're not even talking about the plot holes in The Angels Take Manhattan. Talking about the meaning of marriage and the Amy/Rory/Doctor love triangle. The theme of storytelling in Moffat's era. Heroic adventurer River Song. An overly extended pre-credits sequence. We're going to get sued by Disney. Talking about P.S. Cheating on the emotional content of the series by letting characters of the hook. Headcanoning about Amy and Rory's quite life in the past. Jenny, Vastra, Strax, and the Snowmen. Daniel likes letting Shana do all the work for once. Having very little context on Jenny and Vastra. Lipstick lesbians. Should have been a spinoff. The Doctor not caring was an idea from the late seventies. The Childish God. Can't we just let the Ponds go? Shana does like these characters in The Snowmen. Shana and Daniel rank these three episodes. Calling back to "The Abdominable Snowmen." Shana really likes Strax. Looking forward to Capaldi. Daniel's Twitter Tumblr Shana's Twitter Tumblr
